I had the Tonkatsu and baked Salmon Roll. The Tonkatsu was well prepared. The Salmon Roll was fresh and flavorful. I was quite happy with it! Hit the spot. Located right in downtown Long Beach.
Worst sushi I've ever tasted.. even the knock-off ones at a grocery store taste better than this. I bit something hard and just spit it out. Too freaked out to look at whatever it was. The eel sauce had a terrible bitter aftertaste. The baked crawfish roll had potential but they definitely skimped out on the crawfish. Hardly any on it. Note: ordered through food delivery
I purchased a groupon to this restaurant and had a friend come out for lunch as we both love sushi. Between 3 of us, we ordered six rolls, a glass of wine, a beer, and a soda and it came to 63 bucks including the groupon! Sushi was ok but not of the highest quality. This is an order at the counter type of place and the employee/owner was very attentive, friendly, and efficient. Restaurant is small as well and appeared that a section of the dining room was closed. Street parking can be difficult to find but there are the two public parking structures available and the first two hours are free. My take is if you do try this place, purchase the groupon and be price conscious of the menu to make it worthwhile.

The restaurant was empty, and there wasn't anybody minding the store, but somebody quickly came out from the back when we got to the counter. It's a fast food set-up where you order, pay. We asked if there were any lunch specials, and the server pointed us to an all-day special for some of the popular rolls (3 for $30). It was a good introduction. All 3 rolls were average in size, and would actually be expensive for what you get if bought individually. They do have a $5 Yelp check-in offer, which of course I only saw after I had made my purchase (I'll never learn). The rice in each roll was good, and all of them had been rolled well. Specifically: Flaming Joy Roll: supposed to have both deep fried shrimp and cooked shrimp (think I missed the deep fried). It was tasty. Rainbow roll: mix of tuna, salmon and albacore. All the fishes were dull in color, but tasted fine. Shrimp Tempura Roll: again tasted OK, but the shrimp tempura was cold and not crispy. If you've tasted a really good shrimp tempura roll, you would notice the difference right away. So in summary: decent fish, not great value, poor tempura, good rice and preparation. They also offer an AYCE version for pretty much everything on the menu for $40 per person. They have sushi-making classes, and there is Long Beach's first sake retail store next door.

Parking is free for 2 hours in the city public parking garages around the corner. The interior was small and more casual than I expected. Order at the counter and pay first (no waiter service). Menu is extensive and generally not that cheap, though there are a number of affordable bowls and lunch specials available. Ended up ordering the Combo Plate Special with beef (comes with mixed tempura and California roll), 15-piece sashimi, and plain udon. The sashimi was average and beef a bit dry; udon noodles were nice and chewy but broth was plain as expected. The most surprising aspect was the huge bottle of Sriracha (so hard to find nowadays with the current Sriracha shortage). Overall, food was just okay. Service was friendly though, and the interior was clean.
Definitely worth a visit - I recommend! Bento's chicken and beef teriyaki are great. 3 Roll [special] for $33 is fairly priced and good quality. I would definitely consider returning. The restaurant has a good variety of offerings. Visit 2: 1 returned for all you can eat sushi and was impressed with the seafood quality - particularly salmon, mackerel, and lobster rolls. The store owners are very nice and genuine people. I highly recommend! 2 hours free parking in the parking structure around the block from the restaurant.
Came here on a Sunday around 5:40. No wait time inside was a bit hot so we sat outside. Service was friendly and quick. We ordered the Lobster roll, spicy tuna, and tiger roll. They all were good on bite size and spicy tuna wasn't spicy to me but the shrimp on top of the rolls were good. No bathrooms.

Pretty average sushi. This was my second time (maybe third) ordering from here. It's usually pretty fast for pickup, at least that has been my case. It's only like a mile from my work. I accidentally ordered all salmon sushi today. Meant to mix it up and get some salmon and some tuna items. Meh. Next time. Today I ordered the island roll which is a shrimp tempura special roll topped with salmon and then the salmon lovers combo which is 4 pcs of salmon sushi and 6 pc salmon roll. It was all pretty decent. The salmon didn't smell too fishy, but I felt it could be fresher. Maybe someday I'll try their sushi-making class. That sounds like fun.
The portions are horrible! I got the chicken katsu curry and the portion is tiny and the chicken I mostly bread. I've gotten carry out here multiple times and the portions get smaller and smaller. They charge $8 for one spam musubi. They say it's six pieces of spam musubi, but it's just one spam musubi cut up in 6 pieces. Awful!

The sushi was so tasty, and they added a great amount of salmon and avocado. The rice was soft, the perfect consistency honestly. The bulgogi plate had ALOT of beef in it, and the carrots & veggies complimented the plate so well. i loved this place and the person who took my order was such nice man. Support this business!
I had the chance to have sushi here today and it was pretty good. My coworker got some take-out for us. They are def on the pricier side but I feel like they have to to make up for the high rents and location... The salmon was pretty good, decent quality. I wish more people would come here to check them out. The quality is pretty good and the staff is so nice. I hope more people would support local small business and come check them out! read more

I ordered a Philadelphia roll to go it was ready within 5 minutes, once I got home I noticed it was missing the cream cheese was missing from it. But it was too late to go back because they were already closed for the night. read more

My bf and I did an uber eats order for the BOGO free salmon roll. His salmon was fully cooked....lol My plate was tiny bits of leftover meat/ chicken from the day. I ordered this on postmates because it had a buy one get one special. Big mistake. HUGE. Literally threw out half of it. The tuna looked disgusting I was worried I would get food poisoning. Even the ginger looked old somehow. I contacted postmates with pictures and they refunded me. The part I could eat and didn't look spoiled was okay. That's why I gave 2 stars. read more

Best sushi I ever tasted! Duh because it's made by yours truly lol. My girlfriend and I found this sushi making class on groupon, so we decided to try it. It's really fun and informative :) The ambiance of this restaurant is all positive from the moment we entered. The staff greeted us with warm welcome and head hancho, Chef Michael is super awesome :) I usually go to AYCE sushi places, but this is the best experience I had eating sushi.. It's a must for all sushi lovers :) First of all, we made our own sushi from scratch (well kinda, except the ingredients preparation). I might say we assembled our sushi.. more like it! Chef Michael explained about the different kinds of sushi and the cultural difference from foreign version (I don't want to spoil more info). We made California Rolls, Maki Rolls (seaweed on the outside) and Rainbow Rolls. It was so addicting and of course eating it is the best part. Overall, I 100% recommend this.. you'll love it for sure! PS: Thank you Chef Michael and your staff for making this a fun experience for both me and my girlfriend :) read more

This was $17. Hmm... I don't believe presentation is everything but feels like it dropped the ball on this one. Flavor wise... very good. Salmon was very tender and sweet. Asked if they had any item on the menu that was like spicy tuna but with salmon on top-- he proceeded to give me just that haha. So would have been 3/5 but that gave it the extra star for the accommodation of what I wanted. Lol read more

Got a Groupon deal for 2 for the sushi making class with Sake tastings. Had to pay Groupon tax (about $10/pp), this is weird, I've never had to do this for all of the other many Groupons that I've used. -1 Had a great time during this sushi making class. My friend & I had a fun time during this class. The class was inside of the restaurant during business hours which made it kinda weird. Chef Mike that was teaching this class was pretty cool, he made it fun & interactive. He taught us basic sushi rolls: rainbow roll, avocado roll, tiger roll. Overall, this was a fun & interesting experience for us. Tip: this would be a fun date night activity to do other than just going out to dinner. =) read more

I ordered 2 shrimp tempura rolls and an extra eel sauce and it came out to basically $28. Thought it was pretty expensive compared to other sushis spots ive been to. The portions also threw me off, they were small & has little to no crunch. Also lacked flavor. read more

I had a craving for Japanese -- but had just finished a run, so something super fancy wouldn't do. Yelp led me here! I settled on the chicken udon and chicken gyoza. I was strongly contemplating the tempura vegetable roll or vegetable roll, but the picture of the udon looked good. When ordering, try to pay cash. They charge an extra fee to use a credit card. (I believe it was around $1.50.) My dinner for one was more expensive than I was planning - I believe the udon was around $8 and the gyoza $6. So -- I really liked the food -- both dishes. So (in addition to the price), why the three stars? My chicken was pink. Maybe it was the type of chicken? But it was pink in the center. I ended up taking it all out of the udon and eating the broth and noodles instead. I will definitely be back though, as everything else was good. I just won't order chicken. 2018: 26/100 read more

Tried this sushi Spot. Not bad at all. We had flaming joy roll with real crab meat, Hot night roll, Shrimp tempura roll, Caterpillar Roll, Spider Roll and Chicken teriyaki roll. We loved all but the chicken teriyaki roll that was nothing special. Rice is soft and warm. Getting real crab meat makes the difference. You get free 2 hours parking around corner. The sever Michella was awesome knowledgeable, courteous and very friendly. A tad bit pricey but comparable to other sushi spot. Def will come back. read more
My coworker gave me a Groupon voucher for a sushi making class for 2 at this location. Upon arriving at the restaurant my sister and I checked in at the front register. I can see on the voucher that this class was valued at $85 or so. Anyways- they charged us a voucher tax. Umm... what the heck? We've been using Groupon vouchers in the past and have never encountered such a thing as "voucher tax". That was pretty bullshit. We drove all the way from Santa Ana and it took us an hour and fifteen minutes to get here so what were we going to do? Leave over $10? I bitterly handed over the cash and went to wash my hands and get seated. The class itself was pretty fun. The sushi chef was informational and helpful. He taught the very basic rolls. I wish they would put up some partitions to separate the part of the restaurant that they turned into a "class". It was kinda weird seeing customers going in and out and staring at us. I like a little more privacy if it were to be a "class". If I learn anything at all today it is that I do not like to prepare or make food. The process is messy and I rather just eat the finished product instead lol. Overall this was a nice experience minus those few points mentioned above. read more

The location is great, right on Pine Ave where all other restaurants and stores are just around it. They offer outside seating but there're flies outside. So we moved inside. We had baked mussels and salmon terriyaki. Salmon terriyaki came with a side salad. The baked mussels was average while the salmon was over cooked and the texture was kind of hard. It had a bit of fishy smell to it too. I wouldn't recommend salmon but would recommend the baked mussels. read more

The spam musubi is smaller than the sushi. I knew something was up when they said 6 pieces. But the cost was 7 dollars. Industry standard is 2 or 3 dollars for this much. And it's just spam and rice! Please explain this cost to me. There's no reason for this. Very over priced. They also forgot all of the utensils, soy sauce, and a pathetic portion of teriyaki sauce for 3 dishes that require it. Will not order again. read more
Ordered from this restaurant through Postmates. Postmates estimated delivery time to be 35-40 minutes and I got my order in 65 minutes. The portion is not worth the price. The spam musubi is pretty much one piece cut into six small tiny pieces. I ordered two rolls of sushi as well and I expected it was enough for two people. It was not even enough for one person because the rolls were so small. I feel like I paid full prices for half size rolls. I do not recommend this place for anyone. read more

Came to Zenmaru for the two hour sushi making class via Groupon. You have to call the restaurant to make a reservation. There is a voucher tax that they charge when you redeem your Groupon ($14.28). I did find this a bit strange because this was the first time I was charged a "voucher tax" and I have used Groupon many times. There were 7 participants and 1 instructor. We got to make three rolls- California roll, salmon skin roll, and rainbow roll. The instructor was knowledgeable and taught us step-by-step how to make each of the rolls and went into the details of how he makes each of the ingredients. All-in-all the class was super fun-- I highly recommend it! read more
