If you're staying at the Thompson hotel on the waterfront in Dc, Surveyor is a fantastic spot for breakfast and brunch. I ended up going two days in a row and was able to try a number of different plates while comfortably sat inside safe from the blistering cold. Service was good even though it was busy and the food was lovely, with the chicken and waffles being a standout. While they were not quite as spicy as advertised, they were cooked to perfection and the seasoning was a lovely twist.

On we weekend trip to DC, we stayed at the Thompson with breakfast at The Surveyor included. I was very excited to try the crab benedict and the the "shrooms" (aka avocado toast with charred mushroom on top). The crab benedict I had on our first day was decent and not too heavy, which I appreciated. However, I think what really impressed us was my "shrooms" toast and the chicken and waffles that my partner had. The charred mushroom on top of avocado toast was filled with varied yet complementary flavors. The chicken and waffles had excellent texture and was a good balance between savory and sweet. The restaurant's aesthetic was also noteworthy. The design has a lot of wood, which gives the restaurant a classic and elevated feel. Other reviews commented on lackluster service, but we didn't have that problem. We noticed our food did take a little longer than expected, but we didn't mind. If you're in a rush, maybe order ahead.

I just wanted to extended a special shoutout and appreciation for Andrew! During my weekend stay at the Thompson, I witnessed this guy work his butt off, handling many roles at once. He was the host, handled seating people, cleaned and set tables, answered phone calls, I mean literally everything. Surveyor definitely needs additional hands to decrease the workload amongst staff. As for the food, the breakfast was amazing! I had the French toast entree along with the chicken sandwich entree. Both were very tasty. For it to be complimentary was a steal!

Pretty solid hotel breakfast spot! We had complementary breakfast through our AMEX card and they had a good variety of breakfast and brunch options. The halloumi avocado sandwich was my favorite mostly because I love halloumi, but definitely add some salt and pepper. The omelette wasn't too wet and over stuffed, there was plenty of egg to go around and hold it together which I enjoyed. The short rib hash was good, the beef was really nice, but the fried egg was a little underdone for my taste. The chicken and waffles was a fun twist on a trash though I'm not sure if I loved the chicken wing topping because it made it kind of difficult to eat, but it had fantastic flavor and the red chili maple syrup was delicious. Service was a little slow since it was crowded on a weekend and they don't have a ton of staff to serve the space. They have cute kind of French bistro and also submariney port vibe which was a fun step up from some other hotel restaurants

Stayed at the Thompson for a staycation weekend and included was free breakfast at Surveyor. I can only speak for myself to say that breakfast was awful even though it was free. The water brought to your table in a bottle is room temperature to start. The $5 orange juice was just very clearly pulpy Tropicana and the grapefruit juice had no flavor. I got the crab Benedict which was simply awful. It did not taste fresh, the English muffin was barely toasted, and with no sides or anything isn't worth the $25 price tag. Now why wouldn't I complain about this dish? Service was non-existent. After receiving our food the only time we saw our server was when she dropped the check off with the included service charge. If you're staying at the hotel and you have to pay, go literally anywhere else for breakfast. For free, I mean, up to you.

Stayed at this Thompson and had breakfast at their restaurant. The food was tasty and fresh. However, either they're understaffed or the staff isn't trained well. It took us a bit to be seated on a Sunday morning around 10am when the place wasn't packed. And when we ordered our drinks (not pictures), the waiter also got my dirty matcha (to go) wrong and instead made mocha for dine in.

TheirGreens Eggs and Ham is delicious take on a morning breakfast option. So tasty and fresh. Egg was perfectly cooked and the greens and avocado was fresh. Manager suggestion. 1. The outside seating is beautiful and could be enhanced for morning guests. I would recommend putting umbrellas outside so that guests can sit outside and enjoy the cool morning air without being blinded by the sunshine in the early morning. 2. Both to go container lids didn't work and wouldn't close on the square and round ones. Not cool when you need to head out.

Stayed at the Thompson for a weekend trip to DC and was had breakfast/brunch at Surveyor both days. The brunch menu had some really great options, which included the Crab Benedict, Monkey Bread and the Chicken and Waffles. Service was great, staff was friendly and attentive and I loved the modern vibe of the restaurant. I also had some items from their lunch menu (lamb meatball sliders, flash friend shishito peppers) which were also very good. I'd like to give a shout out to Ezekiel, the manager... he was very welcoming, had a great presence and you could tell he cares about his establishment and employees.

I came here for the first time with a couple of friends for restaurant week. I checked out their menu beforehand and was intrigued that they were serving their full menu for RW, as opposed to other restaurants who only offer certain dishes or smaller portion sizes. We arrived and were promptly seated for our reservation. We each ordered a couple of cocktails, and nobody had any complaints. The last few restaurants I've been to tend to have watered down drinks, but thankfully that's not the case here. The restaurant week menu offered a starter, salad, entree and dessert. We got the calamari and crab dip to start, which we all enjoyed. The wedge salad was DELIGHTFUL . I would seriously come back just to eat that. My New York strip was very well cooked and flavorful. I'm not a big fan of chocolate, but the chocolate cake for dessert was also fine. Overall, I enjoyed my experience here, and would definitely recommend to anyone for a nice dinner or date night.

My daughter made a brunch reservation at this lovely restaurant inside the Thompson Hotel on Mother's day. We were quickly seated upon arrival. They also had a dj playing music. The space is very bright due to the high ceilings and tons of big windows. The menu has several popular brunch options and a few unique ones. We opted for the chicken and waffles, steak and eggs, and the shrooms dish. It was like avocado toast but with portobello mushrooms rather than avocados. Everyone enjoyed their food. The only complaint is that the three items came out a few minutes apart instead of all at once. Complimentary chocolate covered strawberries were also a nice addition.

Solid 3.75- If you're looking to avoid the crowds for brunch, this place will always have a seat! They had a wonderful dj this past weekend and food is always fresh and tasty. The price point is on the higher end- and the portions are "normal", given it's a nicer hotel, so that's something to consider. My salad, eggs, sausage, potatoes, toast & 1 mimosa came to $50, so a nicer brunch. But always great service and reliable food.

Decided to try this restaurant for brunch. There were no reservations online and the online waitlist was very long (to me that means this must be a popular place!). When I got there it was completely empty. The host said they don't know how to fix their reservations system. The food (brunch): boring & bland. The only thing that stood out was the brunch pitchers. We actually went to another restaurant afterwards to get something more fulfilling.

I tried the lobster roll ($39) and Cajun Branzino ($49) and both were good. The lobster roll was Maine-style -- cold with mayo -- which is not my preferred style, but it was still pretty good. The side of fries were great -- crispy and well-seasoned. I liked that the lobster roll had a specific price on the menu and not just "MP." The branzino was also very good. Everyone else had good things to say about their dishes, which included the clam chowder, seafood linguini, and caesar salads. Service was good but uneven in spots; there were some nice touches, but also a few misses. For example, they poured the canned beer for us tableside and remembered a guest's birthday with a small slice of cheesecake (free). But, they forgot crackers to go with the clam chowder, didn't deliver dishes to the correct people, and were a few minutes late bringing the last entree after all the others had arrived. It was a busy night, but also they should be used to that. We sat in the back dining area and the ambiance was fine.

The host is said we could take drinks out there, but not food. So we just opted for the bar. Thankfully, they eventually opened one of the doors real wide so the outdoor air was coming in and that was nice. Happy hour was going until 6:30, and I have to admit that some of these happy hour prices are regular prices at other places XD, but remember it's the wharf. And there was a time when happy hour there wasn't even a thing. So I got a glass of wine and yellowtail tacos with salad. I wasn't expecting the yellowtail to be fried, but it was fine. The salad was way bigger than I thought it would be. It was good. My cousin got the burger and fries... I tasted it and I think I enjoyed the burger more, haha. That smoked cheddar, whew! I found the fries to be pretty average. The ambiance of the place is very nice and I could see myself returning. Some other people at the bar got some amazing looking dishes too, but I know they were expensive XD.

The atmosphere was lively during a weekday lunch. They also had WiFi available. They have a $15 lunch special where you can get a small personal pizza and a cup of soup or side salad. I ordered the grilled chicken and avocado sandwich ($19) which comes with a side of fries and a pickle spear. It was just okay. They serve shoestring fries - just like McDonalds, but not as golden and not as crispy. The sandwich had good structure and was filling, but the chicken was bland and dry. I could've used some more sauce. I think I'm used to Nando's chicken which is moister and full of saucy flavor. Other people at the table ordered the fish and chips ($24) which looked good - it came with two large, meaty pieces of cod and the same shoestring fries. Also on the menu - Matchbox now serves sushi! Service was sufficient but a little absentminded, particularly for drinks. Some people never got their water (I think she forgot) and drinks were never refilled - cups were empty. We were checked on a couple of times, but drink service was often overlooked. Food trickled out for our group. It came in about three waves. It was a reasonable wait (nothing offensively long), but it's always nice when the food comes out at the same time, or when some verbal acknowledgement is given to say that everyone's food would be out shortly. I would say food and service were average overall.
