This cute little shop needs to be up on the top of the list when people search Yelp for coffee near San Elijo State Beach. A lot of places here are listed as "dog-friendly", but this place is dog-loved. The sweet young lady behind the counter came over and pet my dog and gave her a treat. It's the little things like that which make a coffee house special to me. But aside from that, they make an excellent latte. Lots of great choices for food and pastries. Every weekend we take our dog on a nice long walk and we started coming here for morning coffee. There's plenty of coffee shops in Encinitas, but this is one of the best! We've made it our weekend staple. The vibe of the place is super chill and laid back, and the service is fast and friendly. Plenty of outdoor seating. Lots of options for coffee, smoothies and food. I love the lattes here. I also love how they have treats out for the puppy customers. My dog has definitely smarted up to this fact and expects it. I happened upon this quaint little place while taking a peaceful drive along the Coast Highway 101 one misty morn. The people working this café really seem to love what they do. I shared some pleasant conversation with the young barista's then enjoyed my cup of "Regular Joe" (yes, I like my coffee the same way that I like my life, SIMPLE.) You thought that I was going to say something else, didn't you. Ha-ha! Anywho, if you're ever in the area rolling past the JAVA HUT and are in need of a great cup of coffee, regular or fanciful, this is your place to indulge in your greatest of coffee desires. We happened to stop in on a whim after grabbing a late lunch a few doors down at Union. Surfdog's Java Hut is a typical beach coffee shot. Super casual, chill, laid back...simple. We got a good vibe from it the moment we stepped foot into the store. The cashier immediately started to rattle off favorites once she realized it was our first time there. Smoothies were a local favorite, she suggested many flavors. Since the smell of freshly brewed coffee outside is what got us in there, I think that our minds were set on coffee - so even though the smoothies were tempting, coffee it was. I ordered my skinny latte and the hubby ordered a mocha. Both came out immediately are were pipping hot. Coffee had a great flavor but wasn't as strong as I had hoped. I've been drinking a lot of Peet's lately so probably why - Peet's is strong. My hubby and I thought the service was fantastic. As we were sitting at one of the tables, the gal looked over the counter after she was helping others and asked how our coffees were. We appreciated that. I love coffee and I love supporting small and local businesses. I've been working in Encinitas for this last year and I'd say I come over with my coffee mug and grab 10 minutes of joy from the Java Hut 3 or 4 times a week. The coffee is great - not that burnt Starbuck's stuff - really good coffee. My 'usual' lately has been a cafe au lait - simply heaven. And yes if you're doing carbs try the Krakatoa bagel. Great service. The women who work in here are awseome!!!!! Always greeting you with a huge smile. This is a great neighborhood cafe that I come to every chance I get. Whenever my boy wants to go to Swami's to surf, I come here to relax, have a great cup of coffee & people watch. They have free WiFi also, so I can also get some work done if I need to. I've been here a few times and each time I'm pleased with my experience. The employees are really friendly and helpful. There are a few tables inside, some out front, and a few on the side too. It's got a chill beachy vibe that goes with the Encinitas beach town. Out front they have a bowl of water for dogs which is awesome. Super cute place. Delicious coffee and tea. I only sweeten my coffee with brown sugar and the only place I've found that offers it is Java Hut. Their coffee is strong and bold... just how I like it. I often get the krakatoa bagel to accompany it. The bagels are fresh, the cream cheese is spread just right (not too thin... not too thick)... the tomatoe covers all the cheese....and to top it off....freshly cracked pepper. Yum! What's really cool is that the crowd that go are fellow locals, very friendly.. very casual. There's always a place to sit and enjoy the paper. Or.. sometimes I just sit there and say hi to all the puppy dogs that go by. Parking is never an issue, even on the weekends. This place definately is the only coffee shop I go to in Encinitas. read more

Cute place. Not to sound cliché but it did remind me of a little coffee shop that could be right in Hawaii. The two ladies that were working seemed really nice and helpful. We took my niece and the gave her a little monkey to hang from her juice. She loved it. I had the "love potion" coffee and the bagel with cream cheese, tomatoes, and turkey.
