Sunset

This place is a whole vibe and I'm so happy my friends suggested it. I'd avoided this place over the past few years with stories heard about the food- I am happy I waited because the new chef has really stepped it up. The short rib and the lobster rolls were excellent - hot and tasty!! The drinks are potent and the bartenders really keep the vibes going. The music played really transports you to another place- totally Caribbean/Mexican seaside. Between the food and the vibes, I never expected to have a sunset that took my breath away as well. They'll have to tear me away from this place this summer! I even bought the sweatshirt

Review #100! This is the place to be! Come here for fresh fish and drinks while sitting on the beach. The staff manages the volume well and are polite and kind throughout service. I could have drank the coconut saffron broth that the mussels were in and will remember next time to shamelessly ask for a spoon and more bread.

Great spot right on the beach for a drink or a bite to eat. They have plenty of seating and the vibe is awesome. Definitely enjoyed my steak and eggs. Large portion cooked perfectly and tasted great. I also really enjoyed their cold brew coffee. The staff is friendly and very attentive as well. The only downside is during the day if you don't live in the Town of Oyster Bay, you have a two hour timer limit.

Came here on an absolute gem of a night, no humidity, beautiful sunset and great vibes. The place was packed on a Wednesday night and there was some kind of club across the way so you could hear the music coming from that. Our waiter was phenomenal, so friendly and attentive-I forget his name but he was great! My friends and I split the tuna tacos and the coconut shrimp and I forget what drink I started with but it was all very good. The shrimp may have been a smidge over cooked though. For entree I went with the salmon and a side of the summer arancini which was mushrooms and zucchini-so unique, I had to try! Everything had a ton of flavor. I was pleasantly surprised by this place. I figured a beach bar would be kind of a dive-nothing wrong with a dive, it just exceeded my expectations. For dessert we went with the sundae -split with the s'mores and cookies and cream ice cream and we ate every last bite! Such a great night, I'm sad summer is coming to an end but maybe I can squeeze in another visit before it's over-worth it!

The Surf Shack was the perfect way to spend a summer afternoon with my husband. You simply can't beat the beachfront setting. Great views, ocean breezes, and a laid back atmosphere instantly put you in vacation mode. Everything we ordered was delicious. We started with chips and guacamole and wings, both of which were fresh and flavorful. The lobster roll was packed with lobster and paired perfectly with crispy fries, and the lobster mac and cheese was rich, cheesy, and loaded with generous chunks of lobster. The drinks were equally impressive. Ice cold, refreshing, and definitely strong enough to make you feel like you're on vacation. Exactly what you want while relaxing by the beach. The service was prompt, friendly, and attentive throughout our visit, even during a busy afternoon. Between the food, drinks, service, and beautiful location, The Surf Shack delivered on every level. We'll absolutely be back for another beach day and lunch date. Highly recommend if you're looking for great food, strong cocktails, and a fun waterfront atmosphere.

I have no complaints. A happy hour would make it top tier. the food was delicious The service friendly and frequent. The manger is wonderful, she checked on every table and had a conversation with people and give tips. Ambiance is beautiful

Wow. A lot has changed here over the years. Havent been in a few and since i live nearby, thought i would give it another shot. This is a very busy and popular spot inside of the tobay beach. The bar area is amazing with great service and food. Happy hour is a must. What blew me away the most was how reasonable the prices were for it beeing a seasonal spot and the quality of food they serve. Portions were big and the food was fresh and delicious. Hot tip: pineapple guac with chips is a game changer. Couple of notes: parking for non tob residents is free only after 5pm. If there is a show at jones beach theater, 4-7pm it is nuts for the pre game if its an older crowd show. Bottom line, Surf Shack is a great spot on Ocean Parkway / Tobay Beach that shouldnt be overlooked. A great outdoor beach bar and restaurant.

We decided to eat here after a weekday splash park day. We have never eaten at TOBAY so we decided to stop at the Surf Shack. It was a Tuesday afternoon and it was not too crowded. There was no actual hostess during the day so everyone who was awaiting to sit was a bit confused if we could self seat or wait. A waiter would come by and say someone would be with us and we were eventually seated. The prices were expected for a beachside restaurant. We were informed of the taco specials for Tuesday and got one of each - shrimp, pulled pork, fish. Each platter included 3 tacos and they were decent size. The food was pretty average for the price. The staff seemed very overwhelmed and it was a bit disorganized so I wouldn't probably dine here when it's busy. We dined with our 1 year old and they had high chairs and kids menus as well. She just ate off our tacos and enjoyed them as well. The ambiance was nice. It seems like there are live music nights as well so definitely check the schedule. There is bar seating as well.

Empty tables for 2 hours never filled meanwhile 2 hour wait.. smh!

Came for dinner before a band was playing on a Saturday night. The food was much better than expected, our group ordered the calamari, mussels, empanadas, buffalo wings, ahi tuna, and the burger. Food came out quickly for a Saturday night, hot and fresh. Ambiance was good and our waitress was excellent. However, checked in for a table was told a 2 hour wait meanwhile there were empty tables all over the place. The host told us the empty tables were called and they were giving them a 10 min window to come for the table. We sat at a high table saw one that was opened. The young host was in over her head, many tables empty and had no clue what she was doing. PS the open tables I saw were never filled the whole night. Poorly run, bus boys and waitresses walking around doing nothing. Need management to step in.

It was somewhat of a surprise to find this place in TOBAY. I realize I have not done enough homework at all the restaurants and bars right on the beach in TOBAY. Still, it is always a pleasant discovery to come across a spot with a sizable, seated bar area right on the sand. Sun, fun, and good drinks, which is what I call it. Surf Shack is a beachside bar and restaurant that offers a menu featuring items like lobster rolls, along with live entertainment. However, when I was there, there was no live music. Luckily, the neighboring Boat Yard had live entertainment that you can overhear, adding to the lively beachside vibe. The bar service was a bit slow, but that is understandable given it was busy. They also manage the outdoor dining area, which adds to the relaxed atmosphere. I was there simply to unwind, soaking in the beautiful scenery, the beach, and enjoying a few cocktails. I decided to pass on eating at this time, but the place has its charm for a casual, beachside hangout.

Evita A.

The Surf Shack at Tobay Beach is the perfect spot for a beach day bite! I want to give it 3.5 stars! Parking for the restaurant is free but not if you want to spend the day at the beach too! You can't go wrong with the lobster roll -- served hot or cold depending on your mood, and it's so fresh and delicious. I love that they serve brunch daily until 2pm, which makes it easy to stop by whether you're grabbing a late breakfast or lunch. The casual, beachside vibe makes it the ideal place to relax, enjoy good food, and soak in the ocean views. Definitely a go-to when spending the day at the beach. If you take a walk they also have a memorial for those who passed on 9/11 that lived on LI. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive too which was a plus!

Decent food. Was a very long wait for food to come out though. Everything seemed fresh. Would like to return for one of their theme events.

Hey fellow beach goers, surfs up at the Surf Shack on the bay side at Tobay Beach on Ocean Drive. Make your reservation and sit on the beach and watch the sunset then go and enjoy your meal. Service was good thanks ( Juan). A hiccup with my food ordered the Fish and Chips all breadcrumb, hardly any fish and burnt, they credited my bill. All others Mac and Cheese and Salmon were delicious and the calamari appetizer. CIAO FOR NOW

The breakfast burrito not only have potatoes inside, but also on the outside it weighed about 10 pounds almost as heavy as a baby

Does the restaurant have live music?

I do believe they have music, I think that you would have to check on their website since I don't think its a daily thing.

Do you have to be a resident of this town to have lunch here? Also Do they take walk ins for a weekday lunch or do need reservation?

No. You tell them at the booth that you're going to the restaurants and they'll tell you to park to the left. They take walk ins.

First off, the inside is beautiful. They did an incredible job with the renovation, and I loved all the little details, especially the custom 300-pound manhole covers they're using as tables around the bar. Even better, everyone working there was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Now the food! We started with the Baked Clams, and these were legit. You could've served them to me at an Italian restaurant and I wouldn't have questioned it. The Nonna's Ribs were probably one of the biggest surprises--slow-braised pork ribs with cherry peppers and finished on the grill. Fall-off-the-bone tender, tons of flavor, and I loved that they weren't just drenched in BBQ sauce. The Firebird crispy chicken sandwich was fantastic, and the Steakhouse Sandwich with sliced NY strip, mushrooms, provolone, crispy onions and horseradish aioli was also very well done. But that Manhole Burger deserves some special attention. Beef, American cheese, caramelized onions and dijonnaise on brioche. Simple combination, executed REALLY well. This was an outstanding burger and absolutely something I'd order again. And I can't leave out the fries. They're hand-cut in house, super thin and crispy, and exactly how I like my fries. Think that addictive thin fast-food style, except made fresh and much better quality. If you remember this location from its previous ownership, give it another shot. This is a completely different experience. Beautiful restaurant, genuinely friendly staff and food that exceeded my expectations. Foundry Tavern is a Hicksville hidden gem that deserves more attention--especially for lunch. I'll definitely be back.

Heard the guy next to us order a French dip and the waiter said great, we have only 2 left. So when he came to us I ordered and he said great timing it's the last one. Took 45 minutes to get our strawberry salad which was delicious. Another 3o minutes go by (and the guy next to me who ordered the other French dip had already finished and left) So the strawberry waiter, after more than 1.15hr walk over and says "hey, we ran out of the French so I ordered you the steak sandwich. Huh? 1 hour and fifteen min later you ran out and the other guy already ate and left? I said great, but I'm not paying for it. 10 min later the owner came out. He could not have been a friendlier, responsible and all around nice person. It wasn't that he not only covered my meal but the table but it was the way he handled it. Owning a restaurant is not easy and problems happen. Food - 8/10 Prices 9/10 Place 8/10 I would not only recommend this place but they have absolutely earned my business. I obviously can't give a 5 because of the incident but I will change this to a 5 when I go back and get the service I have a feeling I'll receive. I came back specifically to try their special Oktoberfest menu, and the entire experience was excellent from start to finish. One of the things I love most about Salumi is how knowledgeable the staff is. They really understand the menu, the drinks, and the pairings, and if you're willing to take their recommendations, they can completely elevate your experience. We started with their signature Old Fashioned made with Noah's Mill bourbon. They actually tested multiple bourbons to find the one they felt worked best in their recipe, and you can tell. It was extremely well balanced. The dry-rubbed chicken wings were fantastic and are fried in beef tallow, which I absolutely loved. They're served with an Alabama white sauce instead of the typical ranch or blue cheese, and I thought that was such a creative and delicious pairing. The figs and burrata were another standout. The creamy burrata, sweetness from the figs and pomegranate molasses, and little bit of heat from the jalapeño worked beautifully together. The spätzle was rich, creamy and comforting with Gruyère, caramelized onions and crispy onions on top. Definitely don't go into it expecting American-style mac and cheese because it's its own thing entirely. The bratwurst tasted nothing like anything you're buying at a supermarket, and the latkes were perfectly crispy. Their homemade applesauce was honestly one of my favorite parts of that plate -- I could have eaten an entire bowl of it. But the absolute star of the night was the Jägerschnitzel. This is a crispy bone-in pork chop with mushroom cream sauce and roasted cremini mushrooms. The pork is soaked in buttermilk before cooking, and it was incredibly moist and tender with a perfect crispy breading. Easily one of the best pork chops I've had in a very long time. We finished with the Black Forest Mess -- whipped mascarpone, brownie and Amarena cherries -- along with an excellent espresso martini. They grind fresh Georgios Coffee beans and pull a fresh shot of espresso for every martini, and if you actually love the taste of coffee, you'll appreciate this one. Salumi continues to be one of those restaurants where the staff truly helps make the experience. Don't be afraid to ask questions or ask for recommendations. They know their menu extremely well. If the Jägerschnitzel is still available when you visit, GET IT.
