This review is for the previous owner... This is the kind of place when you go to a real BBQ competition you get made fun of for mentioning the name. Not for serious BBQ enthusiasts. I went with a large business group, not my general decision, and it was a huge mistake. Prior to going there I had heard many horror stories about how a few of these places went out of business for a reason. I can remember that the group I was with that day regretted going there. We felt like we didn't get what we paid for (but I already knew that going there). I don't mind trying out a place to see if can rank as a place that I would like to come back and bring the family to, but I would not give the food from here to my dogs. Pretty bland, small portions, staff unmotivated, poorly managed. Just because you put lots of salty rub and smoke it for so many hours does not necessarily make it good BBQ. I think that this place is a poor representation of what good STL BBQ should be. I don't know how this place claims it won any competitions, but they must have been the only ones to enter the contest. I know a couple of employees that use to work for the last owner, and they say that guy was a cheapskate and dishonest, that they always had problems getting shorted on their pay. So in all fairness, I do like to support local businesses that take care of their employees. Good luck to the new guy, but the last guy ruined this place for me. read more

Took some family and out of town guests for a little BBQ. We had pulled pork, pork steak, mac and cheese, baked beans, and green beans. Everything was delicious. The meat was tender and the rub was very tasty. The portions were "more than enough" big! They have done this place up like a BBQ hut you'd find in South Mississippi and the food is easily comparable. The staff was super friendly and very helpful. The restaurant was clean. The prices can't be beat. I mean a 20oz pork steak with sides for $10.99. That's 2 meals!! I will definitely return!! read more

I would give this place a 3.5 for their food but after what happened tonight I wish I could give a zero. We heard this place was under new management and that the food was much better, so we decided that try it out. The first time we went they were out of almost everything. Not just meats, but sides as well. How do you run out of mac and cheese and creamed corn? Seriously? We left and decided to try again when they could put forth a better showing. So that brings us to now. We went in, ordered and sat down. After about 5 min they came to the table to let us know they were out of pulled chicken for the kids meal and asked what else would we like instead. I thought it was odd that they didn't tell us this at the counter when we ordered and specifically asked what they were out of, but whatever, mistakes happen. I was totally cool with it until I saw the table that came in way after us get delivered pulled chicken. Clearly what happened was that they were on their last bit of chicken and the next order was for a higher amount, so screw us even though we ordered first. At that point I wanted to cause a scene (my wife forbid it). Even if they had the best BBQ in the world (it's good, not great), to hell with this place if this is how they do business. read more

Dry. Dry dry ribs. Not good at all. Pulled pork was stringy. Thank god for the green beans. That's the only moist thing that was on my plate. For being an "award winning" place I'm pretty sure they were only a few other bbq competitors there. So not impressed. No smoke ring on the brisket a friend had and dry. And I had to fight the grizzle on the ribs. Thank god for the bread pudding though. And friendly was ok. But I didn't pay to met a friendly person I paid good money to eat good BBQ. A lot of the reviews are hit or miss, and honestly that is exactly how I felt eating here. Hit- I think the sides were pretty good, good flavor on the potato salad, baked beans, cole slaw, apple sauce. We had ribs, burnt ends, pulled pork- not bad...but you had to sauce them up to really get some nice compliment to the meat. I think they had a nice selection of sauces that were unique and anyone could find something they like. The people working there were pretty cool too. Miss-macaroni and cheese is kinda one of those things that go with BBQ or just sides that you really don't want to mess up. Microwave mac and cheese? Oh, I cant really forgive you on that. Not enough BBQ flavor on the meats kinda tells me that your just trying to sell something. I agree that award winning is miss leading when the last time you won was back in the early 2000's. If you are in the St. Louis area try it out, because I'm not sure if it's me or not but I do consider myself a BBQ expert. Not impressed, especially given their claim to have won championships. Kinda makes me wonder if the competition showed up? Were they battling the teams from Steak & Shake and Taco Bell? Were they high school competitions? The kid's Mac & Cheese may have been the best thing at the table...and that really says something when you're dining at a smokehouse. The wife had burnt ends that seemed more like fatty pieces they trimmed after cooking the brisket than any other burnt ends she's ever been served. My half-slab was just a little off. There were about 3 really good bites but the rest was just missing something. I can't really put my finger on what was missing but they really didn't amaze or even satisfy my craving. To be sure - I've had that little something in plenty of places over the years and it was noticeably absent. All in all we were disappointed and likely won't return. Good barbecue is hard to come by in St. Louis and its surrounding areas, but Super Smokers is the exception. I live in St. Louis City so it isn't often that I make it out to Eureka, Mo. But every so often I just have to go to Super Smokers. As a lover of all things barbecue, I can honestly say it is worth the drive. There used to be a location in Crestwood, but it shut down. I guess people don't know good barbecue when it slaps them in the face. Anyway, I use pulled pork as my benchmark for all barbecue joints. It serves as the perfect dish to judge a barbecue place and I have found this method to be accurate. If the pulled pork isn't good, the rest of the menu items probably aren't either. Well, Super Smoker's pulled pork is some of the best I've ever had. It is savory, moist, smokey, and perfectly cooked. You can eat it dry or dab one of your favorite sauces on it - I believe they have six to choose from. Unless you are in Memphis, Tenn. or Kansas City, Mo. you will be hard-pressed to find better pork. I recommend you stop by and give it a shot ... you won't be disappointed. read more

Now before I start I have to say I am very picky when it comes to my BBQ since I grew up in Kansas City. I asked the cashier what I should get since I have never been here before and he suggested the Ribs. So I went with a half slab and fires and apple sauce. Lets start with the soggy fries, a few of them were way undercooked and falling apart because they were mushy. Then the apple sauce which I am pretty sure came out of a can.... Now the Ribs....or lack there of.... Hardly any meat on the bones at all, very tough and dry...not sure if I just got a bad half slab which happens sometimes in a smoker, but really...someone should have seen this before serving them. Im not much a Yelper but this was so terrible I had to. We should have turned and ran out the door when we were ordering our food and could see into the kitchen. We saw the cook microwaving food/meat and eating out of his hands. The kitchen also did not look very clean. I ordered the pick 2 with brisket and chicken, baked beans and potato salad. The brisket was so dry and had NO taste. The chicken was like rubber and did not have much taste. I have never seen potato salad like this but it looked and tasted like it came from a can if there is such a thing. The beans were definitely from a can. My boyfriend ordered half chicken plate with green beans and potato salad. The chicken was not cooked all the way to the bone, it was a rubber texture without much taste, the green beans from a can and the potato salad was horrible. It was like institutional food. I have never been to prison but I imagine this is what the food would be like. Our table was sticky, the BBQ sauce bottles were obviously not wiped all day, the fountain drink station was dirty. Even the iced tea was horrible. We left most of our food on the table and just left. This is the worst meal I have had since I can remember!! We actually went and ate at Culvers up the street. This is a shame!! Restaurants getting lazy and ordering can foods instead of making it from scratch! Please hire some good help and stop ordering can food!!! read more

We found this location during a road trip. We had vowed to avoid fast food and gave this bbq a shot. Finding the food locations when exiting the freeway proved to be a little tricky. So, we filled up the gas tank before giving it another go and venture to the other side again. We arrived at 8pm, and I think they close at 9. The menu listed a decent selection of meals and sides. We opted for the pulled pork and beef brisket plates with sides of baked beans and jalapeno corn bread. The pulled pork was very good and tender. It could have stood to be braised a bit more to add even more flavor. The beef brisket was not as good and definitely not as expected. The beef had more of a consistency of roast beef and not a true brisket. The sides were fine in flavor and went over well. In summary.. not quite up to bbq standards. However, the food is 5-plates better than any fast food fare. read more

Oh how the mighty have fallen. I recall when this once proud BBQ empire that used to be in every grocery store around the St. Louis county area in addition to their bottled sauces that reached grocery stores across the state. Just like the fall of Rome they have retreated whence they came. The last time I visited this restaurant will be just that, my last visit. The food was way below the normal standard that I had grown accustomed to, but worse than that both my friend and I became severely ill shortly after eating there. Say what you want about taste but any restaurant that causes level of sickness immediately after eating is just not worth it, no matter how successful it once was. Had a hankering for BBQ and nothing going one Saturday so I decided to hit Super Smokers for the first time in a while. I'd heard it had changed, not like it used to be, blah blah blah. In short, it was terrific! We ordered three full slabs and some chicken. If these aren't still the best ribs around, then I want to see the place with better. Mixed bag here. Some was good. . Some was not so good. Could not smell any smoke or anything in parking lot. Couldn't smell anything good inside the place either. Began to worry. It did not smell like food at all in the place. They had all kinds of awards and stuff on display but they were all for about 5-10 years ago (hmmmmmmm). But decided to try it anyways. Pulled pork very nice, tender and moist. Ribs, very smoked looking! and a nice glaze but a little chewy and no smoke taste! what? totally mild but overall OK. How could that be? I don't understand. Brisket decent but not tender or smoky. chicken was pink through and through, very moist (almost too much) but still not smoky tasting. I am befuddled. They have like 6 BBQ sauces. Decent, there champions label was pretty good as was the texas and st louis, others ok. A couple of sauces were a little bit old tasting too. Randomly stopped here during a road trip and so glad we did! My husband isn't generally a fan of brisket as it easily gets dry, once he tasted the brisket here he went back & grabbed a pound to take to the hotel with us.
