The service here was not good, we sat for well over 10 minutes before even getting a menu and there was nobody else in the building and they saw us come in. We had to get our own drink refills. People who came in after us got their drink, food, ate & was almost done before we even got to order. The waitress was seen sitting and eating at the bar before we had gotten all our food. The absolute worst. My daughter ordered a hot dog.... She got it, plain on a hamburger bun, not exactly how she asked for it. The grandkids got their food.... It was like they were out of food and had to figure out something or maybe they just woke up or something. We got plenty of fries.... A salad.... Or lettuce with cheese and a tomato and dressing. Dry toast for the BLT.... But why toast... If toasted, don't toast too much. So many French fries.... We wanted fresh fruit. They were nice.... No ding on Arnold, just not the same as high ridge for old style mom n pop feel. Biggest pain is cash only. We came here for dinner and brought our autistic son and after paying we took him out to the car and we came back in to move the table back for the workers and was bringing in more cash, bc they are cash only, for a tip and they two workers there were incredibly rude and jumped down our throats about how we didn't tip and how we are assholes. I told them we have tip in hand and was coming back on as we just walked in and the male and female working starting getting on our faces and cussing us out and calling our son retarded and threatening to fight us. I have been here for breakfast before, and it was pretty good. Today, the food was mostly terrible, my eggs were good, and that is all. Biscuits and gravy were cold, and sent back to be microwaved, and then we had to remind that we were waiting for them. The grits were not cooked completely, so they were gritty for sure, pancake was tough, sausage patties were extremely crispy, and coffee tasted old. The table had some previous person's food on it. I don't know if they charge for refills on the coffee, as we were never offered a refill. We were completely turned off by this experience. By the time we left, the place was getting pretty busy. I've always gotten excellent service at Dave's Diner no matter what time I come in. The staff is friendly and makes everyone feel at home. You cannot beat the price on their chicken dinners although I wish the batter was a little less salty. Breakfasts are reasonably priced, too. You don't get cheated on the portions, and I usually have to get a to-go box. Most (if not all) the cakes are homemade. Coffee is usually fresh and strong. I wish the mashed potatoes weren't instant. Great local diner that does typical greasy spoon fare for prices which are firmly rooted in the past. Their signature dish is the fried half-chicken and it is delicious, amazing, and plentiful! Do yourself a favor and get this. The staff is great, especially Teresa. She runs the place by herself many days, cooking, serving, and ringing up everyone in there. We visited Dave's multiple times after they first opened in High Ridge. The food was great, as was the service. Great prices & a variety of food choices. We visited just last week & the place had changed a bit including real beef burgers changing to what appeared to be a soy like moosh burger with absolutely no taste. To make matters worse, the staff was attempting to sweep directly towards patrons while everyone was eating. We ended up having "floaters" in our drink due to these actions. Stopped for breakfast around 11am on a Sunday. Expected a wait but not an issue. First time here for us. Fast and efficient service from Cathy. Food came out hot and within a reasonable time frame. I had the egg sandwich on wheat with a side of yogurt & granola. My husband had Dave's Big Breakfast (eggs, sausage, hash browns, toast, pancakes) which he really enjoyed. All for under $19 less top. Cleaned both plates...ha! They provide a carafe of coffee for the table so no need to keep asking for refills. CASH only. Place reminds me of a local mom & pop joint or greasy spoon cafe. The only complaint i have would be that the young male that works there arrived to work, and didnt wash his hands. And he also stepped outside to smoke, and "still" did not wash his hands. I had Dave's for the first time today, unfortunately I will not be back. I ordered a chili dog and burger and my mother ordered their fried chicken and apple sauce. Let's start with the burger. The bun was stale, the lettuce was like salad lettuce instead of burger lettuce. The burger was seasoned OK. The burger would get a two stars on it's own. Not very good but you could eat it if you had to. The chili dog, well wasn't even a chili dog. They put it on a hamburger bun with cut up hot dog. Asked for cheese, they gave just chili. The bun again was stale, the chili was flavorless and the hot dog tasted not even like a hot dog. Overall this one is a zero star. The apple sauce was bland and lacked real flavor. The chicken was very greasy and oily and not very good. Chicken would be a two star as well. Service was slow and the way they do take out is awful. They clearly have no idea how to even package stuff. Would not recommend going here. Hate to leave bad reviews on a local business but unfortunately this is what it deserves based on the food. DON'T get the chili dog and DON'T get the apple sauce as a side whatever you do. read more

I gave Dave's a bad review in Oct. 2016 . We had been fans but noticed the quality going down.I have since upgraded them to a 4 star rating. They definitely have improved things . Way to go Dave ! The flavor of the cole slaw has greatly improved and the mashed potatoes on the take out orders is no longer in a Styrofoam cup with gravy on top that disappears after 2 bites. Chicken has always been great .I was always willing to give businesses second chances especially when they have been good. We've eaten at Daves several times and it's good to know they are back to where they once were. Yelp placed my Oct. review in their " not recommended " list. I'm not sure I agree with their reasoning but am glad for Dave's Diner's sake it's not as view able. I don't see how to delete it. read more
