The food has always been delicious here. They have a wide selection of breakfast, entrées and lunch entrées. They also have a some creative cocktails. The portions are large, so be prepared to possibly take food home. I had my 91-year-old mother with me. She has some ambulating difficulties of which the staff was very accommodating.

The Shack is a must if you are in Valley Park, with a laid back atmosphere, writing in the walls, and portions that are huge so plan accordingly. For some inexplicable reason, we ordered all of our food AND an extra chocolate chip pancake to share. We were soooo full. We ordered the Notorious BNG (Biscuits and Gravy), a kids pancake with a scrambled egg, the previously mentioned Chocolate Chip Pancake, and the Nashville Hot Chicken. The hash browns are a total stand out. We ordered way too much and had to be rolled out of the restaurant.

Avocado toast that comes with egg whites and fruit (I added the Cholula salsa that was at the table).

Visited the Shack again, with virtually the same review as last time. We enjoy the lively breakfast scene after kayaking at Simpson Park. The avocado toast with egg whites is delicious, satisfying, and adheres to my heart-healthy diet. The servers were prompt and friendly as always, and handled the rush admirably.

We visited on a Sunday morning worried it might be busy. We think we were just ahead of the rush and had a fabulous breakfast. Pictures is my husband's breakfast burrito....with Doritos on top! I had biscuits and gravy that were perfect. The best part....I ordered a side of salsa verde (cuz it's my fave and I put it on everything), and it was one of the best I've ever had. Service and vibe were also very good!

We were excited to try this place this afternoon! The vibe is very cool. They have dining room seating or the bar. Big booths and tables. The coffee was hot and I appreciated the water on the table. Food was pretty delicious! All were happy with their choice. Lots to choose from on the menu. Kids pancake was ginormous!

One of my favorite brunch places in Ballwin area. I love that it's so close to my house. Bonus is the servers here always happy and look like they love their jobs! The weekend can get pretty busy but if you're here before 9 and don't have a big party you'll get sit down within couple minutes. The food came out fast and great portion. I've had t couple items on the menu but I love the waffles and the Kitchen Sink!

I had a craving for country fried steak (or chicken fried steak). Finally settled on the Shack. Good decision on my part. The wait for a table was 15-20 minutes, but since I was dining alone, I just went to the bar and ate there. My server, Lindsey, was fielding the bar, bar tables, to go orders, and dietary questions on the phone. And she did it well. I never felt neglected. The sausage gravy on the CFS was delicious. And man, I saw the size of the pancakes! I'll have to bring my teenagers up here. The decor was really cool, too.

Excellent choice for breakfast and lunch!! The menu has many delicious items to pick from typical breakfasts to omelettes and quiche. They brought a pot of coffee and sat on our table for hubby. He likes his coffee rich and strong; the coffee did not disappoint! Drinks are 3.95 each, whether you choose coffee or hot tea! Service was prompt and efficient; overall, a fantastic breakfast was enjoyed! A definite return!!!!! Quiet and the atmosphere was pleasant!

    Part of gluten-free menu

I have Celiac Disease and my boyfriend has wheat and milk allergies, so I really appreciate so much that there are restaurants like this that take food allergies seriously. They have gluten-free menus. I love that they can prepare allergy-friendly food separately and that they identify gluten-free food with little wooden sticks. This keeps me healthy and lowers my anxiety about eating out. I also like the free adjacent parking lot. Unfortunately, my recent experience did not meet expectations. First, you can't make a reservation. You can either show up and wait or go to the website to join the waitlist. We got on the waitlist pretty early on a busy Sunday morning, and when we signed up, it said we would wait anywhere from 75 minutes to over two hours. This made planning our day very difficult. We had to keep checking the waitlist online status and then made a decision to physically drive there. Once we got there our online waitlist time was "over" but we still had to wait a moderately long time to be seated. Previously the menu included a lot of specials (yes, even the gluten-free food) and I remember LOVING a huge Elvis-themed pancake special with a bunch of toppings. This time, when I looked at the gluten-free menu, there were no special entrees. Very basic food. We were really only coming to this restaurant for the gluten-free pancakes, as I can't tolerate eggs/omelets. After the long wait and finally getting seated, I got ready to ask our server some questions about the menu since items aren't labeled as whether they contain milk or not. She said, "before you bother ask, we don't have any more gluten-free pancakes today." Then she looked at my boyfriend and said, "not that you care because they contain milk." I was shocked. I never would have waited over three hours to eat here if I knew that they did not have GF pancakes. We ended up ordering two skillets: The Kitchen Sink for me (I gave the eggs to my mom) and the Corned Beef 'n' Hash for my boyfriend, plus a side of bacon for the three of us to share. When the food arrived, it was greasy, unappealing and did not taste good. I typically love hash browns and bacon. Despite the menu's description that the skillets are "on a bed of hash browns," it was tough to find any hash browns in my skillet. We didn't get sick from allergy cross-contamination, but, sadly, I don't think I would ever return here again.

    Make A Grown Man Cry
    Katie C.

I'm all about a good Shack brunch! The menu's fun and creative, and the vibe is always so chill. Everything I've tried there has been ridiculously delicious! I had the Make a Grown Man burrito--honestly, the perfect brunch dish. It's packed with eggs, bacon, sausage, and pico, all wrapped in a massive tortilla, then smothered in gooey cheese sauce (they definitely don't skimp on that). And it sits on a bed of crispy hash browns. Yum- O

IF you find it...I passed by it my first go round because it is so tucked away in a corner among non-retail businesses. I ordered at the counter - the Cuban with a side, Caesar salad. I sat outside and my lunch was brought out to me. Can I just say that this was probably one of the best Caesar salads I have ever had? There was a true citrus tang to it that was just so fresh and delicious. I could've eaten a mountain of that salad and the homemade croutons were exceptional and full of butter too. No boxed croutons here. At first glance, the Cuban looked a little skimpy on the meat from what I'm used to, but the quality of the bread and the grill press were so exceptional that I had high hopes. It did not disappoint - the flavors were phenomenal and the size was just right. This is a truly fantastic sandwich and I will definitely order it again & again. Our office is moving close to this business near the end of summer and I envision this becoming a fan favorite, not only for me, but for others in the office. I picked up several catering menus to hand out to other departments and I plan to have them cater many meetings in the future if the quality of their other menu items can hold a candle to their Cuban and Caesar salad. The sandwich itself was very good and seasoned well, but I do wish the salad had been packed into a separate container. The star of the show was their homemade ranch dressing. Omg, you could drink it, it was so good. My husband ordered the chicken club and a cup of chili. The club was a very big sandwich but he said it wasn't seasoned very well. He thought the chili was good but a little on the bland side. In all fairness, he likes a bit of heat in his chili. We also opted to get a side of potato salad and a side of their Greek pasta salad. Neither of us liked the potato salad but both agreed the Greek pasta was delicious. While they didn't knock it out of the park for us, it's good enough that we will be back.
