Hands down the best breakfast that I have had in a long time. This is a hidden gem that no one is talking about. This cozy little shop tucked away in a stripe mall (Stockyard) area. On the weekend it is packed but they get you in and out quickly. Service was great, waitress greeted me with similes even tho it was hectic inside and mention other options off the menu. I placed my order, food came out piping hot with good juice bacon and eggs and the best part, the coffee was great! Owner, asked if everything's was okay because I was in and out. Waitress inattentiveness. At 2:30 came in and was informed that firstly they are closing soon and I would have to pay right away. Useful information but the greeting is poor. Then quickly ordered crab cake Benedict and asked for the sauce on the side. Paid the waitress before food came as she asked. Received my food swimming in the sauce. No time to replace. Had to scrape the square to the side. It's important to pay attention when speaking/listening. Hope this place will explain that to their staff. read more

I frequent this location regularly and have for years. I am always greeted by happy staff and the food is always hot and fresh. If your hungry and want a hearty breakfast/ brunch this is the place to go. It may be a chain but there are always good and bad locations in chains and this is one of the good ones!! I'm usually not a fan of Sunset Grill, but this location was so fast and efficient for a Sunday morning. Despite the line, we only waited 10 minutes for a table and were in and out within the hour. WOW. Sunset Grill was really good. The interior was a chain breakfast/brunch vibe as you'd expect. The wait staff was above and beyond and the food was excellent! The pancake, egg, hash brown combo yielded two full plates of food for a very reasonable price. My meal of just three pancakes was also extremely filling and non expensive. Something about these pancakes - they were dense and a chewy consistency. Just right! The maple syrup, as you'd imagine, really brought the whole meal together. The atmosphere of the restaurant isn't pleasant due to the high exposed ceilings that seem to amplify the sound of everything from crying babies to the crashing of pots and pans from the kitchen. My Great Canadian omelet was all right but the amount of greasy cheese was overwhelming and the bacon inside of it wasn't crispy as I would expect it to be. The bread was fresh but my fried potatoes had green and rotten parts in them that I had to put on a side plate. You'd expect the cooks not to serve those to customers. My husband left behind most of his bacon and fried potatoes as he said they just weren't good. The waitress was friendly but very distracted. Mixed feelings about this sunset grill. Positive: I had the vegan hash and it is amazing. They give you a large portion too, which is great since it's a veg option and it actually satiates you. Negative: There was a small rock in my vegan hash? I was eating and bit into something hard... spit it out, and it was a pebble. This is not the type of hash that I would want to get stoned with, but the food and service was good otherwise. Enjoy but heed caution to unexpected gravel. read more

Sunset Grill is a solid spot for an average breakfast. Coffee is weak, French toast is mostly bread, eggs and bacon are standard. If you eat here on the weekends, there is usually a wait. This goes fairly quickly, but there will be a squabble (count on it) amongst those waiting as to who was "here first", etc. I have never been a victim or a perpetrator of the etiquette train wreck here, but have always observed it. The waiting area at the door is limited and spills out on to the sidewalk. If you make it to a table, space is tight. Service here is ok, not great. They make up for service lapses with friendliness, which is more than many places can say. The really nice thing (and why I return) is that you can have a table service breakfast here with fairly quick service and generally decent prices. The food is (if nothing else) consistent. You come to expect a certain consistent level of service and food from big chains and when it falls flat, well the proof is in the eggs benny as I might say. She looks at my table and asks if everything is ok? Really?!?!?! I point out there are no drinks and what exactly is in front of me for food? She says, :Oh yes, your drinks! We'll get that to you in a moment. What's wrong with your meal?"I flick the over-cooked fried egg in disgust and don't say a word. She replies "Oh on weekends the eggs come over-easy unless you say otherwise.. it says it on the menu" My response, "You double checked with me twice on what my drinks were so i find it hard to believe that you got the food order in and not the drinks... there were two after all. Also, you handed me the menu and I ordered in front of you without even opening it, so you knew I didn't read your policy on over easy... which these are not, yet you said nothing." Our family of 3 asked when placing our order if our home fries could be cooked longer and/or be crispy. The waitress told us she would try and ask but wasn't sure because it was busy. Our food came and our home fries looked like boiled potatoes that had barely hit the flat top for browning. We asked the waitress why they weren't able to accommodate our requests and she said if we wanted them crispy she would take them back and we would have to wait 20 min. We asked why wasn't the request put forth when giving in our order since that was what we asked for and she stated that on weekends they are very busy and everyone asks for it and if they were to accommodate everyone it would be crazy. I questioned her if everyone asks then why do they not provide crispier home fries and she got upset and said she would take our food back and we said no at this point and continued on with our meal since we didn't want to wait an additional 20 min. My husband then saw her go to the gentleman that was attending to all the payments from customers (we were assuming he was the manager or owner) and told him what we were asking for and he squinted his face in and shook his head as if he was saying no way and as if we had asked and brought something up so ridiculous. We couldn't believe how horrible the customer service was. The waitress did not even ask us how our meal was while we were eating and asked the table next to us loudly so we could hear. The message we clearly got is that this location only cares about pushing food out as fast as they can so get the next table in. They do not care about their customers and cannot even provide the basic of customer service. We definitely will not be going back for this reason on how something so simple was mismanaged and poorly taken care of. Since it was horrible service we did not tip. We always tip over and beyond but definitely felt the woman did not deserve anything with her attitude and how she handled the situation. Breakfast here is so so and the only thing going for them is the location. I'm sure that's all they're counting on for business and will continue with crappy service. Food and service were great in all respects. The washrooms were pristine, considering I went there on a Saturday at 10.30am. If you go, bring a can opener. You'll need it to be seated at your table and to get out of it. I have never, ever, been so crammed in cheek and jowl to fellow customers. I get it, it's a busy diner at a rush period. Visited on Sat, 29 Dec. 2018. Mike, the owner/manger was outstanding. The restaurant was busy and several ppl. waiting however the wait was short and sweet, we had a table in about 15 mins, Mike does a great job to ensure a great turn around for tables. I also collect mugs and asked our server if I could purchase a mug, to which she said I could ask Mike at check time. To my surprise, Mike simply gave me a SunsetGrill mug, what a gesture, totally unexpected. I just wanted to recognize Mike's outstanding customer service, how he cares about his customers and how exceptionally he runs this location @ The Stockyards on Weston Rd. and St. Clair Ave. in Toronto. Been here twice and the food was consistent and yummy! Fluffy pancakes, good home fries, and quick service. I removed a star because I think their drinks are overpriced. I like that you can see the action while you're waiting or eating your food. They also have a large menu and can substitute a meat with turkey bacon, which I prefer. Great location at The Stockyards with ample parking and it gets busy but I haven't had to wait long during brunch times. They do takeout as well. read more

My husband and I went to breakfast this morning with my 2 nieces and my toddler and we had a very good experience. The service was very good. Our server was very pleasant and entertained everyone at the table. The food was all great. I really enjoyed the corned beef hash and the gluten free toast that was available was certainly a plus. As a person with celiac disease, I have pretty much given up on ever having toast and when I alerted the server to my allergy, he let me know about the gluten free option! I was over the moon! My niece's french toast was huge and looked delicious, as did the rest of the table's food. We were all very happy. A wonderful experience overall. I will be happy to return! read more

My friend and I both ordered the "salmon eggs sunset", (what I understand is a new item on their menu) and because the dish did not come with bacon, we ordered a side of bacon to split. The waitress brought out our meals but it was not what we ordered, it had pemeal bacon instead of salmon. We explained that it wasn't what we ordered but she said we'd ordered the "sunset eggs". So I guess she didn't hear me say salmon, but when I said that's what we ordered, she argued with us and insisted that's not what we said. Then she just stood there and stared us. Not ones for conflict, my friend and I conceded and said it was fine- even though we knew it was not what we ordered and now we had an extra plate of bacon we wouldn't need because there was already bacon in the dish she had brought out. A few minutes later she came back and asked if we wanted a side of salmon. We hesitated and mentioned we did not want to pay extra for the salmon. She said nothing walked away. Then my friend found a hair nestled in her potatoes. Realizing by now that there'd be no point in complaining to the waitress, we asked for the bill. The man at the cash register asked how our meal was.. I mentioned that our order had been wrong. He says "we'll get it right next time", and proceeds to charge us full price for the meal. Slow service, food was OK (a bit on the cold side) but the waitresses have no idea what they are doing. Slow and a bit lost.
