Burnt southwest vegan hash with tomatoes and guacamole on the side
    Colvin C.

Location: 4/5 I love how this location is so close to a Chapters! Giant parking lot, so close to where my brother works and since he was in the area an hour early, I quickly jumped in on the opportunity to have an 'on the spot' brunch with him. Decor/Ambience: 3/5 During colder season, it is best not to sit close to the entrance, because it is a single door with no other barricade from the outdoor weather conditions. Pop radio music plays in the background and wooden lampshades, tables and chairs fill the space. Each table has ketchup, Frank's RedHot cayenne pepper sauce, Tabasco sauce, sugar, salt and pepper. A dozen two sweaters and like half a dozen 4-seater tables. Homely. Food quality: 2/5 People who love all-day breakfast can rejoice! Alas of your food was not burnt. For meat-lovers, the steak and 3 eggs served with either house salad or home fries and thick toast is their priciest item on their menu for $17.49. Since almost everything has eggs as expected, there are only a few items namely salads that are actually vegan. I got the southwest vegan breakfast hash and I love the portions! You can create your own omelettes. There are also pancakes, waffles, sandwiches, burgers, lighter breakfast, juices, cold drinks, hot drinks, and plenty of sides and choices to choose from for non-vegans, as always! My hash was a bit burnt and thus some bites were not harder or too crispy to eat. Service: 2.5/5 Sufficient, but could be warmer as their name might suggest otherwise. My guacamole and tomatoes were served on plastics sides. Water was served in plastic cups. Too much plastic-use for a sit down... Tea is served with their Tetley packaging and you steep it yourself. Staff usually stand behind the counter instead of walking around to check in on their patrons regularly. Read my rant update at the bottom. Value: 2.5/5 Their portions are hardy, but mine meal alone turned out to be $14 after tax and tips. If the only viable choice for me is this, then it is not really worth coming for me. Overall: 2/5 Was going to give this place a 4* originally, but their vegan offering is way too small for me compared to other breakfast places I know. Still for non-vegans, this would be a decent place to go to, if their food was not burnt. Also, just when I went up to pay for my meal, because they were too busy either behind the counter or serving other guests to notice that both my brother and I were done eating our meals, I politely told the cashier my order for the bill and she unnecessarily responded back with, "I know. I am the one who served you." Well Miss, if you do know that you were the one who served me, maybe you could do your job better by being more present, so neither my brother nor I had to go to the counter to get our bill ourselves! Unnecessary comment when she barely did anything but serve us our meal, which is her basic duty! 8% tip, because at least I am nice enough to wish her luck, but below 10% for substandard service. Like, if you were not that interested to serve much less converse with us, fine, don't go barely do your job and then add an unnecessary comment. If you know better then you should have DONE better. Never coming back! Cafe Mirage is a much better option and it is even closer to Chapters.

2 sunset supers with 2 sausages & 2 pieces of bacon

went here this morning at around 10:20 for some breakfast before going the beach with my friend and the place was part, most likely because it was civic holiday. anyways we were put on the wait list and were told the wait time was 10-15 minutes and took my number so they could call us when they have available tables. we were fine with that so we went over the dollarama to buy a few items and it was around 10:40 when we realized they still haven't called so we gave them a little more time. long story short it turned 11 so we were waiting 40 minutes already do we decided to go in and ask if there were any tables. the lady at the front was kind and her first words after we walked in was "you guys were still waiting?" and not long after we got seated. aside from that the food was great and the portions are huge but in a good way as it is only $14 for the whole meal and i barely finished. everything was good especially bacon, the home fries did need a little more seasoning but can't complain for the price. this was my 3rd time going to sunset grill and the food continues to amaze me.

Came for breakfast, just missed their special. Come before 11:00am and take advantage of their great breakfast special, starting at just $4.99!!! The food was cooked really well and the service was fast and very friendly. The price are very reasonable. Definitely recommend this place!

We came here for brunch today. We walked inside and were not greeted for a while. Having never been here before, we didn't know if you just sat yourselves down or not. After a while someone said take the table over there. It was the only clean table available for 3 people anyways. Our server was lovely, got our waters and took down our orders. Food here is not a big portion but does fill you up. The food itself however is very bland and looks homemade, (in a bad way). When my Peameal arrived, the server was already apologising and asking if it was ok for me. I looked and the Peameal was all in small bits, dry and burnt on one side. I told her that it was too burnt and she took my plate away. Then she brings my plate back minus the peameal and tells me to munch on it while they cook new peameal. I didn't mind but I had eaten more than half before my peameal arrived. Our server was very good. Food is not that great here. And we weren't greeted at the door in a timely manner. I would not choose to return here again.

Decided to go to Sunset Grill for our last breakfast of the year :O When we got there at around 10:30am, it was pretty packed. We got seated in about 2 mins upon our arrival and our hostess immediately brought us cups of water (perfect!!). Our waitress came about 2 mins after to ask if we wanted anymore drinks and if we needed more time with the menu. We ordered a small and large chocolate milk to bring us back to our childhood days hehe. We ordered a sunset super with bacon and an eggs sunset. We waited about 15 mins and this is when my only problem occurred - it was sitting on the shelf for about 10 mins before it got to us. I'm sure they have a system to bring food out, but there were a line up of orders ready but nobody to put them out :( Anyway, the sunset super w/ bacon came with 3 eggs, home fries, 5 strips of bacon and 2 pancakes for about $11.50 which I think is a SUPER good price if you ask me! Both meals were really good, we both left satisfied :) happy new year!

This place is decent, the decor is okay, the staff was on par, the food was average like any other breakfast joint. My eggs on my Benedict was slightly leaning towards being fully cooked, but I didn't bother to return it because I was hungry I was still satisfied with the taste but it would of been better if it was runny. My husband was happy with his meal and had the perfect runny yolk, lucky him. I would of given it a 3 star, but the server we had was charmingly sweet!

    Crab cakes benedict ($14.99)

Came here twice for brunch and both times Sunset delivered! Clean, friendly service and good food. If you're looking for a simple brunch place, they have all your regular breakfast needs for a very reasonable price. They've even upped their game by having a crab cakes benedict ($14.99), which was surprisingly good. Service was friendly, a little bit on the slower side but manageable. Definitely one of the better sunsets I've been to. Hope they keep it up!

French toast, caramel Apple supreme, and homefries
    Jenelle C.

I've been to the location on the Danforth but it's my first time at this location. Definitely more modern looking but still has an old time diner feel to it, and it looks awesome -- very spacious, perfect lighting, and a decent amount of seating. Our waitress was nice. She was cheerful and helpful with recommendations. To eat we got the Caramel Apple Waffle Supreme -- caramelized apples, cinnamon, icing sugar, whipped cream, and strawberries; it was to die for! Extremely sweet though so if you're not looking for a sweet breakfast, go with something else. We also got French toast and cut it up and added it to the waffle supreme. Additionally, we ordered a side of home fries which were average, I've had better. To drink we got the freshly squeezed OJ which was so good. My only critique about the OJ iit's served in such tiny portions. Overall, I'd come back to his location and would recommend it to others.

Sadly there was no chair for her to sit down on yet it didn't stop her from going to her regular spot for a Sunday brunch. She told me that she has been coming here for many years, even before it was called Sammy's. Has it been 30 years, she asked herself? Either way, she made it known that she is quite the regular. Very nice and friendly lady. These are the types of regulars that make the diner what it is. There is a sign in clipboard at the front, as soon as you walk in. You have to sign in as part of contact tracing in case there is an outbreak of COVID linked back to this establishment. Make sure you do not block the pathway from behind the bar, I didn't block it but a large family with several kids needed a place to stand in line and wait for a big table, because servers will get very mad at you and tell you "I NEED TO GET BY! DON'T BLOCK THE WAY!" But there is no where to stand when the lineup is 20 people deep. This is something to think about once the weather gets colder and there is a long lineup out the door. Perhaps takeout would be a better option than to be yelled at by the short haired waitress with tattoos? While I did not mind waiting and I had a book to occupy my time in the lineup and at the table before I was given the menu, I could see that this was obviously a rush time, prime time lunchtime at the diner, maybe others might be a little more impatient than me? I could watch a snail crawl for hours, patience is a virtue. The wait is very long to get seated and even longer to get food. While the food was pretty good, and the other server was very friendly, attentive and nice, I think they were short staffed that day and nothing is ever as instant as fast food. My advice would be to go here when you have the time to wait. Don't come here if you are in a rush. It's better to only come here when you have lots of time to wait.

It has a great classic 50's American style ambiance, complete with posters, paraphernalia and non-working jukeboxes. Some people think that the jukeboxes work because I found a quarter stuck on top of one once. (I don't check the jukeboxes each time I go though, there may be more stuck quarters there). The colour scheme puts you in a joyous mood and the all day breakfast is outstanding!!! I honestly would have given this a five stars, but one of my loves, the home fries seems to have changed. I so loved the old home fries' mix of herbs and spices, whatever it was that made it taste like amazing home fries, as well as the crunchiness on the outside coupled with the soft texture on the inside. Another reason this place does not have a perfect rating is because, it seems, while seated at the back of the diner, did we not get such attentive service. I was dying for a coffee refill or two, but did not get any even after I was done my meal and was eyeing all the servers and waving my hands. So yea, quick coffee refills is really integral to good service. Anyway, about the home fries, the last home fries I had was mushy and just tasted like plain potato. I was not the only one who noticed as my companion also commented on it. I hope this was a one time thing and not a change of recipe!!! I super love the five star breakfast, but everything in the all day breakfast section of the menu is superb. Love the corned beef hash, omelettes, pancakes, still have to try the french toast, but based on the rest, I think they would be superb. Love the coffee, love the free refills. Love the portion. LOVED the home fries, that's now like a plain potato :(, but anyway, I still LOVE this place and I will continue going for my breakfast/brunch needs. One new thing that I guess all restaurants have now and Wimpy's has is the calories listed on the menu. I wonder if this had an impact on the flavour and texture of the home fries. Did they make it more "healthy" but sacrificed the flavour? Or was it just a one time thing, off day for the cook perhaps? I will find out as I will be coming back!!!
