It has been a treat for me to find an eatery to have a late lunch after I'm done fetching groceries and completing whatever tasks that I needed to do. As someone who makes breakfast at home more than enjoying it at an eatery, I don't mind having some any time of the day. It's a treat when I can do breakfast when I'm out and about. I do like Sunset Grill, so I looked at visiting one that I had never been to. I found this one in Vaughan. I have passed by this large plaza with Yummy Market anchoring it often. I liked that this Sunset Grill was open until 4 pm on Saturdays. Most close at either 3 or 3:30 pm. I drove from the eastern part of Markham over to this eatery. It took maybe half an hour along Major Mackenzie Drive. It was a pleasant drive. Traffic was at a standstill at Dufferin. Luckily, I turned right just before it. I found a spot steps away from the eatery. I backed into a spot and realized that there was a large puddle when I opened the door. I'm glad that I had sneakers that didn't have any holes. My feet were dry and safe. I walked in. I saw the sign that said to seat myself. A nice man greeted me from behind the kitchen. I found a booth and sat myself down. He gave me a menu to look at. As a creature of habit, I have my usual order at Sunset Grill. Back was the lobster benedict, which I've had and was delicious. However, I had my heart set on French toast. Next time! My server asked if wanted anything to drink. He rattled off fresh lemonade. It sounded great. I got a Diet Coke and a lemonade. I got my usual French connection meal. It's two slices of French toast. I chose two strips of bacon and two sausage links as my side. In the past, you could only do bacon or sausage. It was nice to get the best of both worlds. For my eggs, I went scrambled. My meal came with home fries. My drinks came out first. My lemonade came in a glass. I got a glass of ice and a can of Diet Coke with Santa on it. The fresh lemonade was excellent. It tasted fresh. It was slightly sweet and had the perfect tartness that I like. I'd get it again. There's also a strawberry lemonade on the menu. I may give it a try someday. It is $1.50 more for the strawberry puree in it. It didn't take long for my food to arrive. It looked great. The female server came back to bring the maple syrup and was kind to wait for me to take a photo of my food before she put it on my table. She was super thoughtful and patient. I loved my meal. This place does French toast well. I put butter on both slices, followed by pouring maple syrup on them. They were crispy on the outside and yummy all around. My scrambled eggs were done perfectly. I was happy. I squirted ketchup in the middle of my plate to dip my home fries and sausage links in them. The home fries were yummy. I enjoyed the sausage links, which were juicy and delicious. The bacon was so good. It was crispy and straight. The downside to having sausage and bacon is that they are salty. For the first time at any Sunset Grill, I got another can of Diet Coke. Thank goodness all these drinks washed my entire meal down. It was nice to take my time eating. A 4 pm closing time works well to have a leisurely meal. I used the washroom after I had placed my order. I also used it before I left. The women's washroom has two stalls. The one that I used twice was clean. No complaints. The male staffer asked how my meal was midway through being here. Everything was yummy. The cool thing was that he brought the payment machine to me at the end of my meal. Normally, you head to the counter to pay. It was nice that I could fast-track payment. I paid with a credit card by tapping my phone. Done! I thanked him as I left this eatery. He wished me a great day and told me to take care. Such a nice touch here! I loved dining at this eatery. The food and drinks were yummy. The hours of operation on a Saturday are excellent. The 3 of us had breakfast here last Sunday. Service was slow due to the staff shortage. Table clearing was slow due to staff shortage, so the 2 waitresses were running off their feet trying to keep up with everyone's orders and requests and could not clear the tables. I go to sunset grill a lot for a reason. The food is good and the service is decent. It can get a little hectic inside and difficult to wave down a waiter. Taking 30 orders. No coffee or juice for an hour ! Orders took half hour to initiate. Food was cold. We weren't Llowed to have water. They only had four plastic cups available. !!!????? The cooks did a good job with taste but need to step up when one person is unable to deliver. Several orders messed up ( no butter or poorly buttered or wrong bread). the asian server did NOTHING to assist our waitress. Guess teamwork wasn't in her training. What an absolute joke of a restaurant chain and it shows in all of their reviews. Their customer service is horrible at many locations in the GTA. After not going for over a year I thought I would try going again and absolutely no change. We had a table of 4 with 3 orders of eggs and toast and 1 omelette. After 25 minutes the server said it would be right out another 15 minutes go by and nothing. You try talking to the staff and they brush you off. The worst part is they are run by a manager who looks as if he strolled in on his day off but then lies about how the order process is done to cover his back end. Let me say that the food is fine. Portions are good and everything tastes good. It's the not best breakfast place around (try Cora's or Pickle Barrel), but it's certainly good. True to their word, the staff at Sunset managed the Mothers Day brunch crowd, calmly and professionally and moved everyone through like a well oiled machine - we were seated in roughly 30 minutes. Once seated our experience was pretty good. The servers were well organized despite the mothers day insanity and never left us alone for long enough to feel neglected, in fact our server was on her game for the most part and checked back with us on the regular before ordering, once the food arrived and post meal for bill and tidy up. The only flummox was with my meal in terms of what type of bacon I ordered... not a big deal, but I think the stress of the day was getting to our server because when I flagged the small error she argued with me about what I had ordered as opposed to just making the correction. No real fault here, just a stress thing. I went here with my boss. We took a client to a dentist appointment. Anyway, we had some time to kill and so we decided to go for breakfast. We both had the special breakfast with sausage and sunny side up eggs. It was delicious and our coffee was filled up regularly. Which is always a good thing first thing in the morning (and we really needed it! *lol*). Eggs were cooked perfectly, the yolk runny and great for dipping the toast in. We found the place dirty the tables were sticky the fork had baked on egg and the coffee was cold.The over all meal was very bland no seasoning and the potatoes were horrible. I understand this is a busy time but they should really look into perfecting their food and keeping the place clean,Nothing worse than having your hands stick to the table.
