Theres a lot of breakfast spots in the city and Sunset Grill is definitely a popular one everyone has heard of. I just find from time to time the service and quality of food changes. Sometimes the staff is super kind, while other times it's hard to even get their attention. When it comes to the food, its pretty lack lustre. I just feel it isn't the same quality it used to be. I find the eggs always runny, and the home fries way over cooked. I feel like they definitely need to up their game as this place is slowly becoming not my favourite places to go for breakfast. 5/10 recommend! read more

I can't believe it has been 3 years since my last visit dining in at Sunset Grill! Covid played a huge part in that with all the closures and reverting to take out for our fav local spots. We did try take out 1-2 times from here, but nothing comes close to dining in at the location. I'm not a take-out breakfast kind of person (unless it's a breakfast sammie!). I love nothing better than a Sunday family breakfast at home and I go all out with homemade pancakes, omelettes, bacon, homemade french toast etc. HOWEVER, this mama needed a cooking break and all four of us agreed that we needed a Sunset Grill fix! It wasn't busy at all when we arrived, maybe 3-4 tables filled. They still had the far left section of the restaurant closed off. It wasn't a big problem for us, but they do have a table for 6 there which does seat more comfortably for a family of 4 when we are ordering multiple drinks and having enough room to enjoy our meals. I ordered my usual: Eggs Sunset with poached eggs. I did have to send my plate back on this visit because I had asked for my poached to be a bit medium where they are runny on the inside but a little less on the outside. They were WAY too runny for me. 2nd plate came back and it was exactly what I had asked for! I love their fresh cut home fries! Had a nice hot cup of coffee with my breakfast. My kids both ordered: Three eggs scrambled with home fries and bacon. Huge generous portions compared to a couple of other local breakfast spots (which is why this one is our fav!). Hubby ordered a western omelette - nice large generous portion with a side of bacon. The service did fall a bit short on the visit where we had to reach out for water refills, napkins and coffee to be topped up. Got takeout breakfast from sunset grill! I tried their sunset breakfast poutine ($13.19) and fresh orange juice ($4). I thought the poutine was a unique take on breakfast foods and I liked it! It's a bit different from your typical poutine but the flavors go well together and does get both the impression of a breakfast and poutine item! The orange juice I also really liked. The portion size for the orange juice was a bit small but it was really tasty and you could tell that it was fresh! Overall, enjoyed my food! read more

On New Year's Eve, I was running a few errands and needed to grab some lunch. I spotted this Sunset Grill on my drive along Markham Road, got excited, and pulled in. I had no idea that this Sunset Grill existed! For ages, Markham did not have a single Sunset Grill. It now has two. Go figure! I have a love for French toast. Out of all breakfast eateries, I love the French toast at Sunset Grill the best. I walked in at 2:30 pm. I had an hour to eat. I can do it! I was promptly seated and given a menu. Staff here are incredibly friendly and service is excellent. I ordered three pieces of French toast with a side order of corned beef hash. It didn't take long for my order to come. My usual is to order a Diet Coke. I got a glass with ice with my beverage, which I liked. It was a nice touch. The French toast was delicious. It was lightly crispy around the edges, but perfectly done everywhere else. It was probably one of the best I have had in a while. I loved the maple syrup dispenser here. It was modern and didn't leave any stickiness anywhere on me. The corned beef hash was delicious. I got a lot of it. No complaints here. My server was great. I came to visit with the hubs for a casual Sunday brunch. The environment is very cozy and gives off a cottage vibe. The wait was short and we were seated fairly quickly. However, I do find the seats a bit tight, especially when there were another group sitting next to you. The food was nothing spectacular. Just your average American style breakfast. We ordered the French connection because I wanted French toasts. The set comes with 2 French Toasts, 3 eggs, home fries and a choice of bacon, ham or sausage for $11.99. Although the price is reasonable, the French toasts were meh. Very soggy. Home fries were also disappointing. They were not crispy at all and needed some seasoning. Food was not very good. We live in Ontario and the maple syrup was not even real maple syrup - not even the processed kind ! The hollaidaise sauce was out of a package of unknown taste. I asked for a jug of water and was told that was not possible. Brought three plastic glasses with warm water and no ice. I asked for straws and was given a look. I asked for a larger sitting area as we had a handicapped person in our group and the extra room would be appreciated and was told that was not possible. The restaurant was not even 1/3 full at 1:00 pm in the afternoon. I asked the others in the group what their rating was and then said no rating. Since I can cook, I'd rather prep abs cook breakfast myself since our household is trying to move away from regular vegetable oils that restaurants use which can be harmful long term. I was looking for a breakfast place for my sister and I to visit, when we came across Sunset Grill on Yelp. I asked my sister if she had heard of it and she actually said that she had been there with a friend and that it wasn't too bad (price wise) so I decided to give it a try. Walking into the restaurant, I received a very friendly vibe from the waiter who was extremely willing to help. So that's a pro! From the menu, I ordered the eggs sunset which comes with home fries, over easy eggs and peameal bacon over 2 pieces of english muffin. In top of that, there was hollandaise sauce. The food actually looked pretty delicious and this opinion was maintained throughout the meal. One small thing was that the peameal bacon to me personally was really salty to the point that I had to pack it for takeout as I couldn't keep eating it. I recommend giving this place a try. Decided to check out this location since it is right around from where my parents live! At first, we were very happy with the service -- she was speedy and courteous. Did she forget a request that was made? Yes, but minor detail. What was frustrating was that waitresses who were waiting other tables told our waitress that we clearly needed service, and still, she thought it would be a better idea to sit down to talk to a gentleman at another table. Frustrated, I made my way to the cashier and asked to pay for my bill. The food was good, but for some reason, the pancakes were, in my opinion, very "yummy" for pancake quality. Not too sure why, but I ended up only eating half of the two pancakes. The establishment is clean and bright, but while the photos on yelp indicate that it has an outdoor patio, it actually does not (I walked all the way around). Had a great breakfast here. I can definitely see how it could get easily packed given the small space, but ill base this review more heavily on the food and service. First off id like to give these folks some recognition for their homefries...they got it right as far as im concerned!! The pieces of potato are soft and well seasoned and I love the bits of crunchy pieces mixed in- makes it all the more interesting. Eggs are not easy to screw up so...they didnt screw those up. A perfectly runny over easy is my go to. And the sausages, though appearing burned, dod not taste bad at all. They had the perfect bite to them. Not too soggy/floppy and not too hard. Oh, and I had pancakes too (these choices are whats causong my belly to grow) But anyways, they were good pancakes. Fluffy, not dry and crumbly. Overall good. However, my favourite pancakes definitely remains as eggsmarts. I like how soft they are at eggsmart, and the splash of vanilla makes them taste like pancake minus the pan. Prices are good too at sunset. The option I chose (top left of menu I believe) was $11.99 and included homefries, 3 eggs, choice of meat (either 4 sausages, 5 bacon, or 2 of each) and 2 pancakes. I went to the Sunset Grill yesterday morning for some brunch to start off the day. I've been to different Sunset Grill locations, but this was my first time at the Markham one. There are several options for breakfast and lunch, both sweet and savoury. I had some trouble deciding because everything sounded so good! The service was nice and fast which was good because we were on a bit of a time crunch. I had the protein breakfast. I ordered my steak as medium rare, but when it arrived it was about medium to medium well. I didn't say anything because I didn't want them to have to make me a new one - you can always cook it further, but never uncook it. I would recommend the freshly squeezed orange juice! It's very sweet and quite delicious. One great thing is they give you very generous portions of bacon! read more

Came here for breakfast on a Saturday morning close to 9:30 and boy it was pretty busy, I believe the franchise owner is highly likely to be of Asian decent as 85% of the employees were Asian.. Lol.. Back to the restaurant, this is my first sunset grill experience so it's a bit hard for me to compare it to something similar, I can only compare it to the Cora's and/or Uncle Joe's as nearby competitors.. Cora's Markham (warden location has gone down significantly in terms of quality and service) I use to really like going there but not anymore...Uncle Joe's has very reasonable pricing. Sunset Grill is a nice addition to the neighborhood, the dishes were quite straight forward. I ordered the Eggs Florentine and my plate was filled with hollandaise sauce, I thought it was a bit overflow of hollandaise tbh, I would have appreciate it more if it has a bit less. Family member ordered the veggie omelet which was pretty big portion with sufficient mushrooms and green peppers, +0.5 for not cheaping out on the ingredients as most places do that. We also ordered coffee and tea, which we're refilled quite often. That's what I call good service. All in all, a place I will be back without hesitation. read more

I LOOOOOVE Sunset. I love brunch, I would consider myself a brunch connoisseur and I will go far and wide to try new places. I have queued, I have waited, and I have eaten great brunch. That being said, I know that simple food also has the ability to satisfy the largest of brunch cravings. Cue the music... enter Sunset. Whenever I want pancakes, eggs, breakfast potatoes, coffee, and good conversation, I prefer Sunset. The biggest selling point is that its only like 5ish mins away from my house and makes it super convenient to pop by. You don't have to dress up - You can come here after a morning workout, on a weekend morning after a crazy night or whenever really. There's normally a wait for the table on weekend mornings but I've never experienced a wait longer than 5 - 10 mins. The table turnaround is pretty quick. The whole restaurant is also very clean. I've never had any issues with dirty tables/plates/cutlery. Food is great, it's fresh and hot and arrives quick once you order. I love getting Sunset super - it comes with pancakes and eggs with potatoes and toast. Sometimes the food is under seasoned but I honestly don't mind adding salt/pepper because I'd rather control the seasoning than they put too much and I can't eat it. The portions are pretty big as well so normally I'll share the pancakes with whoever I'm with. All the waitress were very friendly and welcoming. We went on Saturday and expected it to be busy and it was. But food came quickly and there were delays. Perfect spot for brunch! This sunset grill is still relatively new, opened up shop a month and a half ago (I took my time writing this so it's late lol). Really enjoyed my visit here as the food and fruits were fresh. I ordered the crazy big breakfast with blueberry pancakes cuz I was feelin like a champ. Everything was freshly made and I absolutely loved every bit of it. The place itself was clean and the staff were very friendly! Lots of room inside but some people may feel like it is cramped. This was my first time visiting this restaurant. I had a day off and said why not treat myself to breakfast. It was around 9am. The place is nice looking and clean. The staff is friendly and polite. I wanted my breakfast as take out because I wanted to chill in bed and eat. I ordered the grilled chicken breast with 3 eggs. Told them I wanted my eggs scrambled with cheese. *Note that the combo do not come with any beverage not even a small tea or hot water you have to buy separately and that's a rip off Becarose this meal was $17.00 Canadian. The food itself was bland, even for breakfast it lacked taste even a pinch of salt would have improved it. My chicken breast was undercooked and felt rigid when I bit into it. It was a nice resturant; don't get me wrong! A bright and clean dining area, I had high hopes for Sunset. I ordered the Sunset breakfast which came with three eggs, four sausages, homefries and two pancakes. The price was pretty average for that standard fare at around $11. I was kinda dissapointed with my sausages which were heavily burnt and were evidently store bought; they lacked flavour and true sustance. I was happy with the preparation of my sunnyside up eggs though! As for the highly anticipated pancakes, I was quite dissapointed. They were quite dense and as a result, difficult to cut and were chewy. The avocado toast was fair, at around $5 for a dense slice covered in mashed avocados, peppers, and feta cheese. Overall, I recognize the effort of the cook staff and the attention to detail. Their waitstaff was courteous and accommodating, and service was quick! Perhaps due to the newness of the establishment, they do have a fair bit to go to compare to neighbouring breakfast establishments in Markham. Didn't feel like cooking breakfast came here early on a Sunday morning got a seat quickly from friendly hostess. I was quickly greeted by server as I sat down got my coffee order. Looked over menu prices seemed similiar to other places so there is concern there. Ordered the corned beef hash meal. Got my coffee then 5 min latee got my food order...that was fast... I noticed this restaurant for the first time when dropping by Home Depot two weeks earlier. I was excited to try their famous all day breakfast, as advertised. This really is a breakfast restaurant, the menu was almost entirely made up of breakfast items (with the exception of a few sandwiches and burgers). Between my partner and I, we ordered a salmon eggs sunset (equivalent to a smoked salmon benedict on English muffin) and a sunset pancakes to share. The order came as a regular eggs sunset, which came with peameal bacon instead of salmon. When we called the server over to notify her of the error, she insisted that I had ordered the regular eggs sunset and not the salmon one. My partner suggested for the server to just bring us smoked salmon on the side to correct this mistake. The server returned with the smoked salmon, apologized, and to our surprise, told me to specify for "salmon" when ordering next time to not confuse it with the regular eggs sunset. I did specify "salmon" on the first order and I had even pointed to the item on the menu at the time. We later overheard her explaining to the other restaurant staff of "our" mistake. When we were ready to leave, I was shocked to find that they had charged us an extra $9 for the smoked salmon. The smoked salmon was intended to rectify their mistake. Regardless, $9 for three slices of smoked salmon is ridiculous. The price point is high for what you get, similar to Cora's minus the fruit. The food is simple and mediocre, although I did like the pancakes. Unfortunately, this was a terrible experience in service and we are quite upset at both the server and the restaurant's refusal to accept responsibility for the mistake. For this reason, we will not be returning and would not recommend this place. read more

I've been to sunset grill many times in the past and trust me I've enjoyed the food and service. But today I decided to try this location for the first time, and from the moment I walked in I knew I was going to have a bad experience. Now mind you it was not very busy when I went as it is a Tuesday but for some reason the service and food was terrible. We waited nearly an hour for our food, and the entire time I was trying to flag down a waiter/waitress to figure out how long our food would take to be made but I was continuously ignored. Well after the hour long wait our food came and the eggs were dry, pancakes were stale, sausages were disgustingly salty, and my eggs Benedict which I requested with poached eggs came with two over easy eggs. I'll never be coming back to this location ever again, and to be honest because of this experience I'm not to sure if I'll ever visit another sunset grill ever again. read more
