This is becoming a common occurrence! How many times have we driven up and down Kennedy Road, but never really glanced over at Kathy's Grill. When my fellow Yelpers told me about it, I thought, where is it located? I have never seen it before! Well, we finally made it here!
We thought it was a small place shared with other stores in a strip plaza, but it is actually a stand-alone restaurant. The parking lot is quite small, so there are limited spots. The inside has a long counter for take-out items with an open kitchen. There are a few tables on the side as well as some bar stool seating.
Since it was our first time, I was asking one of the women some questions, and she was very helpful. When I asked her name, she said it was Kathy ....lol
We ordered the Chicken Souvlaki dinner and the Open Face Hot Hamburger, with a side order of onion rings. I find chicken dishes at Greek restaurants can be quite hit or miss (as in dry, dry, dry). Kathy told me she buys good quality meats and the chicken is cut and marinated in-house. The Hot Hamburger is made with fresh ground beef. The food is indeed very fresh and hot! I have a problem with warm food, is it just me? I like my food hot, hot, hot, or cold, cold, cold! The salad dressing is also homemade and it was lightly tossed, not overly coated. The fries were nice and crispy, not soggy! I did find the gravy a bit salty, but that is my personal opinion. My husband loved "my"fries and gravy so much; he kept digging in, even though he had his own. As for the chicken souvlaki, my fellow Yelpers assured me Kathy's version is moist and tender ... YES!
We struck up a conversation with a gentleman beside us, and Kathy came over to ask how everything was. We all started talking about how clean the place is, and Kathy explained how high her expectations are regarding hygiene. Our discussion turned to kitchen nightmares and she said she does not tolerate any of it. She has one employee that handles the cash, and if that person does something else, they wash their hands. There is no cross contamination.
There are a few very important details when we eat out: cleanliness, good quality food and friendly/courteous service. Kathy's Grill exceeded our expectations, and we will definitely come back to try their other menu items.
Kathy: It was dinner hour yet you stayed and chatted with us for well over 20 minutes! It was so nice to meet you; we will see you again very soon!
