It really is a blast from the past. Walking into 'cheers' and everyone knows your name. We were outsiders, but were greeted with a smile by the sweet lady behind the counter. A couple patrons also said hello. Unsure of where to sit we chose a small table off to the side and browsed the daily specials on the wall. Person after person strolled on in, and the woman behind the counter knew each ones drink order off by heart and already had it ready to go for them. Service like that is definitely something special in today's day and age. Prices are VERY cheap. $4.50 for draft beer, $12 for halibut tacos, $7.75 for a loaded banquet burger. Personally, food was nothing spectacular; At least what we had. I was definitely full and it tasted ok. I do want to come back and give some of their other dishes a try. Especially since they're homemade and many dishes have good reviews. If you're looking for quality service with cheap beer and eats, this definitely place is definitely worth checking out.

I also ordered a large gravy at $3. Somehow the math doesn't add up in the receipt - According to the website picture, there's slaws, but I didn't get any. A friend told me afterward that slaws are separate. Then I think they should exclude the slaw from the pic - No plastic utentils nor condiments were included Maybe this is a case of miscommunication. But for $30, the quality of the cooking should be good at least.

A new restaurant in the area (they opened around August 2014), this has become quite a hotspot even among the pizzerias, sharwarma stores and burger joints dotted along the Halal Food Strip, aka Lawrence Ave East. The City Fried Chicken franchise is already well known for their Danforth location (City Fried Chicken and Pizza, check their Yelp page too), so when I heard this place was opening, I was curious to see how the fish and chips menu addition would fare. So far, almost a year down the road, the restaurant in general hasn't been too disappointing. As a local, I've tried most of their items and have been here more times than I can count. Here's a little rundown on what you can expect: FOOD * These guys have some great items that are definitely worth the money, and their servings are on the generous side, really filling, can even be split in two for a just-satisfactory-enough meal * Their Philly Cheesesteak is addictive, loaded with cheese, bell peppers, onions, steak and great sauces, and all stuffed between two cheesesteak breads. The combo comes with a serving of fries and your choice of fries dipping sauce/seasoning. The sandwich bread they use is a bit big, chewy, and hard to finish for me, but I think it's because they toast it. So you can probably ask them to skip that part if it's not your thing * Steak on Fries is also amazing. It's all the stuff that goes into the Philly Cheesesteak but spread onto a bed of warm fries. Great alternative to the bread * Being the main attraction of this location and featured on their store sign, the Fish & Chips tastes better than some of the ones I've tasted even in England. Crispy on the outside, soft on the outside, batter is flavourful and served with chips and tartar sauce, a delight. * Everything else I've tried (chicken burger, BBQ wings, poutine) has been good but not as stunning as the above three items. It's worth a shot, though. SERVICE * I've only ever come here for takeout, so I can't speak for the table service, but my takeout is always packed well and usually ready within 15 minutes on a weekday * Wait times are as expected, between 5 minutes to 20 minutes on weekdays depending on the rush and order. Fridays and weekends are a bit more busy but nothing more than normal. * Staff are very courteous and friendly INTERIOR * The restaurant is comfortable for its size but not too spacious near the entrance way when the tables are occupied. * There are about 6 tables large enough to seat five each comfortably * Yep, there's an open kitchen. The restaurant has a bright and cheery design and vibe, easy on the eyes and with stone countertop. Store menu is easy to read along with the takeout menu. Overall makes for a great family setting. --- Try them out on a weekday lunch or dinner, and I can just about guarantee that with their top 3 items, you won't be leaving disappointed :) read more

The fried chicken sandwich was piping hot, very large chicken portions compared to other chicken places. Overall, I had a great experience at Birdies. The spot is more of a takeout type of place with very limited seating. Highly recommend supporting this small local business, truly a gem in the area!
