Was Friday before the weekend, I went to watch the latest movie (superman) and was on my way home in the evening and was looking to grab a bite and family member wanted to grab a burger. Realized I've always passed by this dive many times while going grocery shopping. Wasn't feeling too hungry and decided to ordered their poutine, it came pretty loaded with cheese curds and fries with the skins on (yes!) along with their gravy. Ok, I've had this joint bookmarked for over a year, and I finally went at 12:30 AM, technically Sunday morning..... And I am SOOOOO GLAD that I did! OMG! Just, seriously, omg! I simply do not understand reviews under 4 stars, and I'm a foodie! This place beats Burgers Priest, and waaaay beats Apache and C & Dubbs in 'Sauga! I honestly don't know where to start! I hadn't eaten in 21 hours, and I'd been up 9 hours, (wifi issues, rain triggers my migraines... I've had a migraine almost every day since April 1st.... Grrrrrr, strep infection, since 2016...etc.). Anyway, so I also ordered a double banquet burger... Aka, cheese and bacon!! OMG.... OMG...OMG! It's cooked TO ORDER. I want to highlight that, because it is found NOWHERE else in fast food burgers. And I've looked. A lot....Maybe the Priest.....I can't remember! The taste of the CHARCOAL GRILL is imprinted on the burger, and it's fantastic... but not so much, you know, that it tastes burnt! Jumbo Burger was opened in 1972 and is a bona fide Junction institution. Opened in 1972, it unapologetically serves up old school burger joint fare at reasonable prices and with consistent quality. To be clear, if you're looking for a trendy, high-end burger, gourmet fries or fusion approaches to souvlaki and gyros you'd best look elsewhere (NB: they only accept cash - no debit or credit cards - so be sure to have some on hand when you visit. If you don't there is a third party ATM on-site, which we had to use). What you will find are pretty darn good burgers cooked on a gas grill, served up on a soft bun that holds up well to the ingredients. These burgers are not made with freshly ground sirloin. These ground beef burgers with some (but not too much) filler and are cooked to well done (don't ask for medium rare) but are still tasty and juicy. Like most old-school burger shacks, when your burger comes of the grill you're called up to the counter to select your toppings. Their bacon is grilled and super tasty, so unless you're one of those rare people who don't like bacon on your burger we highly recommend that you go with that. The veggies are fresh and tasty so you really can't go wrong with the selection. The cheese is good old fashioned processed slices, so if you're a purist you'll not be thrilled. Then again, if you're a purist you're in the wrong place from the get go, so there's that. We ordered the onion rings because they are a straight up comfort food/fond childhood memory for one of us - and they're as good as ever. These are not super thin, super crispy onion rings. These have a fluffy batter surrounding generous rings of sweet onion. In spite of the soft fluffy batter these onion rings can't be described as greasy. They have just the right amount of oil to flavour the batter, though, and a light sprinkle of salt brightens them up beautifully. We also ordered the halibut fish and chips. The thick cut fries were perfectly cooked - nice and piping hot with not a hint of greasy-ness (we snuck some as we were walking back to the car!). We can't wait for indoor dining to resume because these fries would be killer devoured fresh at the table. The fish was the only (slight) disappointment of our meal. It was coated in a nicely done, crispy batter, but the halibut itself was almost paper thin. What was there was tasty, and for under $15 it's likely all one can ask for, but in the future we'll save our pennies and order a more expensive, more substantial battered halibut somewhere to satisfy our fish craving. All in all, we can definitely recommend Jumbo Burger. We're already planning a return trip for another burger and to try their souvlaki. Oh, and more onion rings! read more

These are all the words I can use to describe the banquet burger at this place, and it was just as much a joy to eat now as the charbroiled burgers I used to eat as a kid. When you bite into the burger, you can taste that grilled, charred flavour and it brings you right back. It tastes amazing, and the toppings do really well to go along with the burger and leave you wanting another. And maybe another after that. They're handmade, not from frozen, and have a nice thickness to it. (I saw the older gentleman pull the patty from a fridge and slap it on the grill.) Not thin like other fast food-chain places. I swear it's like you stepped into a time machine. The service comes with friendly banter. You can have a field day just watching the human interactions that take place. For some reason, we only ever go here after 8pm. The food has never failed me. My two go-to options are the cheeseburger or fish n' chips, while my husband always has the steak on a kaiser with bacon. Yes, you can ask for add-ons. Just ordered the pork souvlaki on a bun and poutine. Poutine was good but I thought that they used thick cut fries and they don't. Still tasty but average. Well what to say about jumbo burger? It has not changed in over 20 years, everything remains unchanged outside k the prices. Jumbo Burger is a classic burger joint. The home burger is well prepared and you will be satisfied however it is a bit on the expensive side. The pattie is not very thick and you are paying a gourmet burger price. The french fries and onion rings are excellent, however I would stick with the French Fries. The onion ring portions are overly small, I think the last time I had onion rings there must have been 4-5 onion rings in the box. Not a bad place, not the greatest place but nice to visit for the nostalgia. The food is decent but the prices leave something to be desired. read more

This place has been around long enough that my dad even used to come here as a teen. I love how the decor hasn't changed, very 70's and 80's, gives it great character. The burgers are fantastic. A really great diner burger spot. There's nothing terrible 'special' about this place, but it's one of the few places left in the city that will feed you a real burger for under five dollars. Portions, both burger and fries, are large and onion rings are crisp and tasty. Staff behind the counter can seem a bit cold at first, but they seem to warm up to a smile rather quickly. There is seating in the restaurant, but it is not plentiful, although you probably won't feel too cramped. The one real downside to Jumbo Burger is being located in the proverbial 'middle of nowhere', too far to walk from Bloor Village West, the Junction, or most of the small communities around St Clair. But if you're in the neighbourhood, or don't mind taking a bus to access it, Jumbo Burger is a dying breed of cheap eat, quality burgers. read more
