First time here. I appreciate greasy spoon breakfast places and I enjoyed this place. I had the special, 3 eggs with a meat, homefries and toast. They didn't have an issue with me asking for one slice of toast and only gave me one slice (other places can't seem to deviate from their standard two slices even if you ask for it). I should also have asked for half the homefries!! It's a big serving as they generously give lots of bacon - three large strips!!! Open till 9 next week, they will have a new dinner menu. I'm looking forward to it. We had our usual breakfast and burger with fries. I'm always happy, the food is hot and fresh. They have a new cook, but the owners dad is still there. We tried the wings that are available all day . My husband was so happy with breakfast wings. The variety of sauces are extensive and some are made in house. The spicy sauce was good, didn't just have heat, it had flavour. The fries are like the ones at the Costco food court. They stay crispy. The prices are very reasonable and I'm looking forward to trying the chicken souvlaki. It's a family run business and the service is excellent. They are really nice people. They recognize you, greet you. It feels like very welcoming. The eating area is a bit dated: it's an old coffee time, but it's clean, comfortable, has a tv on city. Solid 3.5 stars. There is quite the selection of food offered here. There is plenty of parking, seating on patio or inside with a TV tuned to CP24. Staff is very friendly and take pride is their craft. I indulged in their 4.49 breakfast special with the coffee add on 1.33. Total was 6.50 amd the eggs were cooked perfectly! Sausages had a nice snap and plenty jour juicy, the home fries had good flavour but not the hottest ( mind you I was having breakfast at 10:45am) Even the coffee was yummy. Turn right on Esna Park on Denison and you will find this humble diner that opens from 5am to 5pm everyday. My beau and I were looking for a quick meal before work today and I did not feel like cooking, so I brought him here instead. Most restaurants or establishments are not open until 8am, so options were limited. We arrived at 6 and there were some guests inside already. The decor of this diner is very minimal and reminds me of the 80s or 90s, and it is the type of place I would hardly ever set foot in, but it served its purpose for a quick and early meal. My beau ordered their All-Day Breakfast item that has 3 eggs, 3 pieces of bacon, home fries and toast all for only $5! For myself I ordered their fish and chip, which came with coleslaw, tartar sauce and half a plate worth of fries. The fish was the kind you get warmed up from the freezer and was more of rectangular brick... the breading was but thick for me, and it costs $8, too, so not that great of a deal. Then again, there is nothing else that I can order here besides soups and salads, but still, I like to support local establishments now and then. The place is clean overall and they serve you your food even though you order from the counter, so it is not that bad. Just not what I am used to, but for those in a rush or in need of a quick meal before work this place meets that need. Service here was fast but not rushed. All the staff work hard and are quick on their feet behind the counter, too. I would probably stick with my usual breakfast places, though. This was more of a random spur of the moment thing, since I usually have pickier standards. The washroom, however, has an incredibly loud fan or air conditioning/filtration system, which almost gave me a headache, but upon returning to my beau, I saw a glass of water in front of him that was not there before. Apparently, one of the staff noticed that he was having a dry cough even though we both got juices, so she gave him a glass of water to make him feel more comfortable. Hole in the wall but no hole in your wallet ;) Family-Ran VERY dated restaurant. Came here for breakfast and a bagel and they didn't disappoint! The value is totally there, I got a chocolate milk, bagel with cream cheese, and a breakfast special and only spent $10 and change. They use large eggs which is nice to see, the sausages had a nice little crunch to them and were quite tasty as well, home fries were a little soft for my liking. The bagel was toasted perfectly and had an adequate amount of cream cheese. No complaints whatsoever in the food department. Service is friendly as they always make sure you have everything needed. I noticed the staff would have coffee ready for regulars and know exactly how they want it. People come back here for a reason. The only thing is the restaurant is old and with CP24 playing in the background there's a old-er vibe to it going on. This is a spot that busts me right back to the 80s, when my dad would take us around to all these little diners and places around Ontario that he would discover on his work trips on the road. Ask him now and he could probably still tell you where to get a good, cheap meal in Thessalon. (only $12 for a steak THIS BIG!!) This spot has friendly staff, a menu board that hasn't changed in 30 years (except the prices, but not by much) and a big breakfast that you can pay for with change you found in your cup holder. I've come here a couple of times on the way to the office when I just needed some fried eggs, breakfast sausages and toast swimming in butter. The home fries are excellent as well. I'm sure their other menu options are great, but with a breakfast this good, served all day, why the hell would I get anything else? read more

Wasn't sure what I was getting into when I walked in and was preparing myself mentally for an average or below average meal, based solely on the look of the place. I'm so happy to report that the reviews were pretty much bang on. Hole in the wall diner that serves good food at a great price. Good portion with average pricing is rare these days and wow did Tom's deliver. I had the special omelette and for $12 and it felt like I had two omelettes and without question I had the filling for two omelettes. A large omelette that tastes great filled with more filling than possible, with coffee, running under $20 in my opinion is pretty rare. Service was exactly what you'd expect in a small place like this and everyone who came in aside from me was a regular who's order was "same as yesterday". The truest sign of a great restaurant. Amazing cheap breakfast. In my opinion the best diner in the area. For $4.49 you get three eggs, homefries/salad, and a meat (sausage/bacon). This isn't a gourmet restaurant so don't go in expecting some farm to table experience. It's your average, cheap breakfast and for $4.49, it can't be beat. I've been to Miliken restaurant which is a few blocks away and this place by far exceeds Miliken. Super super friendly and accommodating staff who are always helpful, polite and friendly. It`s sad, because I get the sense that these folks really want to succeed, and because it`s clear from their diverse and widely variable lunch menu specials that they want to offer a lot. But, in the end, um, meh. Ok, fine, maybe one shouldn`t expect much from a $4 breakfast special. It`s certainly cheap, but I did think that the ham I`d ordered with my over-medium eggs might be something other than a few warmed slices of ham coldcut meat. Call me crazy. On weekdays, Tom`s menu offers at least five different lunch specials per day, including tasty-sounding meals like variations on the meat-and-curry theme or something pan-Asian, pseudo-Jamaican, quasi-Greek, or semi-Italian. On the paper, the variety looks good, but after my dirtcheep-but-blah breakfast, Tuesday`s pineapple chicken with shortgrain rice just added to the shoulder-shrugging whatevers. Large chunks of sweet pepper, sure, but greasy and the chicken had enough textural semblance to liver that I actually wondered if it really was chicken at all. Not a good thing. But it`s in the middle of just-north-of-Toronto-amid-industrial-plaza nowhere, so if you`re willing to not expect much, Tom`s can be ok. You know: edible. The sort of place where you really want something fast while you stare at CP24 for the few moments you have there, and just before you do whatever the hell you`re in this area for in the first place. We used to go to Tom's regularly - less so in the past few years but the last 3-4 times have been disappointing. Poor food, bad attitude, even dirtier than usual, unsanitary food preparation. Will NEVER go back. It is sad because this is an Old Markham institution and those guys have worked a long time at the grill. Time to hang up the spatula and tongs. On our most recent visit, the burgers were handled improperly and sure enough we were sick later. The cook used tongs that touched raw chicken souvlaki to take our burgers off the grill. He also used his hands to touch raw meat and then our cooked burgers. The buns are stale, they don't put enough toppings on (even if you ask for more), the tables are disgusting, the service is rude (this is usual and tolerable if the food was good), the fries have little taste. Also, a bit expensive given the quality has slipped so much. Not the place it used to be - keep your money and keep on driving. You can find much better food nearby in Markham! read more

Was a regular customer but when I questioned the owner about why I was being charged for a second cup of coffee all of a sudden he went ballistic and started to yell at us as we were at our table about how the price of coffee has gone up! All I wanted to know was why we weren't told by the server that we would have to pay an extra $1.75 per cup after the first cup. I felt that we should have been advised and then we would decide whether to have another cup of coffee instead of being charged once we finished our meal. The owners response showed me he doesn't care about keeping his customers and he knows nothing about customer service! My wife and I will never go back because of his response. There are a lot of restaurants out there looking for customers and appreciate having regular customers and I guess Tom's is not one of those. read more

This restaurant is good if you want a quick meal for cheap. i have recently purchased the Chicken Soulvaki with Rice and Salad. It is pretty good but for Greek food it is missing a couple of key ingredients. the salad doesn't have Greek salad dressing and feta cheese on it, and the tzatziki is watery, but for $6.00, who am I to complain. I was a little shocked to see them reheat food that was prepared in a microwave, but they must be doing something right every day they have people in their restaurant sitting to eat and ordering take out. I looked at their donuts and muffin. I will bet my bottom dollar that the donuts come from Coffee time once a week. I heard from a very reliable source that the Roast Beef is amazing and the portions are large. All in all if you want good food for cheap this is a place to go. Toms has good breakfast for a cheap price!! Simple!!! The steak and eggs isn't bad for 10 bucks. The Shepherds Pie is good so is the lasagna.
