Service was a 4.5, food was a 4.5, and ambiance was a solid 5. Dropped by Gordo's for a quick brunch before some groceries at the new grocery store across the street and ordered the Gordo's standard, Hot beef, and kid's menu. Kid's menu was pretty standard, nothing extrodinary nor negative. The gordo's standard had great sunny side up eggs that somehow was able to fully cook all the white, but left the yolks just barely cooked. The sausage was good, but the bacon was huge, crispy, and had the best balance between crisp, with the chewy porky meat. What really surprised me was the hot beef. The beef was thick slices that were tender and huge portioned, and I loved how the bread was left under to soak up the juices from the beef....and to mop up the gravy. The veg which I expected to be just blanched and bland.....had a decent crunch, and really benfited from mixing from some HP sauce. Next time......pancakes with swirls. read more

Right at the corner of Edgeley and Portage (formerly Applewood), this diner and it's signs popped out to us from day one and we finally stepped in almost a year after being in the area. We were greeted with a blast of retro decor that looked very well maintained - it was not shabby or "rustic" but more like a walk into the past when the items were actually quite new. The space is clean and well lit, which is nice. The menu is not surprising nor complicated - your standard breakfast diner fare with all the combinations you're looking for. Additionally there's the "lunch items" like sandwiches, burgers, soups - so there's something for every appetite. Unfortunately vegetarian options are limited, so do keep that in mind. So far, their benedicts and omelettes have been great and a good standard item if you're unsure of what to get! House coffee is also pretty standard and inoffensive. Look out for specials posted on the wall or ask your server! Their fries have been the best we've had in a while which is a huge plus - crispy but not hard on the outside, soft on the inside, and served hot. If I could get them with the home fries spices they would be the next level best thing! They use small eggs here so don't be alarmed by the number of eggs mentioned for each benedict or omelette - and trust that they will be tasty and done to preference. Prices are reasonable for the fare and service, not too costly but not a huge steal - it's a reasonable price range for the effort required and gives comfort that they're making the money to stick around and hopefully be there for a long time! Don't be afraid to call ahead to book a table - especially if you're a big group. Many can be accommodated but since it's a local small shop some coordinating may be necessary. Overal, no concerns about their food and I'll be back for sure when I'm looking for some hearty breakfast food! read more

Stopped by here before we went to Canada's wonderland. It's a cute little diner with bench seating and jukeboxes at each table. There's a menu posted at your booth or you can get an actual plastic menu to look at. Prices were fairly reasonable and service was quick....even with only one waitress. We got our food very fast. Food was good and we got individual containers of ketchup which was nice. Home fries were perfect. All in all a great simple meal for breakfast. read more

Quaint diner with little juke boxes at each booth along the window, not sure if they work because we sat at a different booth in the middle of the restaurant and didn't have one. The waitresses are super nice. We had some mishaps with our meals but they corrected it quickly. The service was quick. You get quite a bit of food for the average price of brunch you usually pay elsewhere so it's definitely worth it. Pop in for a nice throw back to the 50s era! read more

One of rather few options in the immediate surrounding area (although some new eateries have opened up on the opposite side of the street in the last few years). We did a group lunch here since it was one of the few options location-wise that could accommodate a group for lunch of about 6 people with sit-down service yet casual atmosphere. It's a very typical diner, with 50's & 60's decor and memorabilia (including juke machines at some of the tables which, unfortunately, can't actually play music and aren't to be handled by customers). It's almost boring to write a 3 star review which tells you everything you need to know - it's your average diner with average service, average food, average prices. Don't get me wrong there's nothing particularly bad or wrong with the place, but it really was just average in every way - some of the food items weren't very hot, return service when asking for items like water, creamers, ketchup, etc. was not quick, and so on in every way, down to the waiting for and paying of the bill. Its real strength is its lack of obvious competition at this intersection, since the area has only starting really expanding recently with the opening of the new subway station. This diner has been here much longer and they have "home advantage" because of it, so, if you're in the area, it'll do. read more

For a couple of years now Gordo's has been a go-to establishment for breakfast with my family. The food has been amazing and many of the servers are excellent. But, something changed the last time we went. 7 of us ordered breakfast. I ordered the same skillet that I loved the last time. All of our eggs were overcooked. Most importantly, there was a hair in my mother-in-law's food. She sent it back and didn't want anything else. We noticed the cooking staff does wear hats, but not beard nets. We found a long hair in another meal which may have been one of ours... and didn't return it. But, it wasn't enjoyed either. My mother-in-law's meal was removed from the bill... but guess was was added? 13% gratuity. Yup, 7 diners, who ultimately ate 6 meals was given the GROUP treatment. Now, our waitress was pretty good. The table was wobbly and she helped us fix it. She forgot to order chocolate-chip pancakes and immediately realized her mistake and got it fixed quickly. And when the food had hair in it she apologized. But, we got charged 13% tip, when things were not up to par. THAT should be up to us to decide. And THAT is the reason I wont bring people with me again. It was embarrassing, and frustrating. We had talked this place up to my father in-law, and were so disappointed. It was expensive, and the food was sub-par this time (and to be clear, for the first time). We ordered 7 plates, and ate 6. 1 was a plate of fruit, and one was kids pancake - and our meal was $122 after tax and gratuity - that means our meal cost an average of $20 per diner. Too much. Gordo's is one of the spots I always go to for breakfast when I'm in Toronto. Better than Waffle House and more cozy than IHOP. The home fries are LEGIT and my go to "Breakfast on a Bun" makes me feel at home (even tho I can't make it taste this good at home). Pancakes are always on point and the waitress is most likey the most hospitable Canadian on the planet, and that's saying A LOT. I came here with my boyfriend yesterday for a quick brunch before we went apple picking. Let me just say it wasn't quick. It's a small diner, there were 3 or 4 servers, relatively busy but nothing crazy, yet everything took forever. Acknowledgement when we walked in, bringing us menus, drinks, the simple things. I used to work in the area and drove past this diner very day and I'm sad to say that it turned out to be a huge disappointment. Our waitress was kind but super frazzled and disorganized. Not to mention our table was near the kitchen and we could overheat many of the waitresses conversations that we did not need to hear. Probably won't return. read more

Definitely not my fist pick. The service is pretty slow compared to other places in the area and you an easily wait 20 min for a salad. Taste wise is was ok, but nothing special really. If you want to set down in peace and quiet for an hour this will do, but be prepared to pay more for the service. read more

Just ate there for the first time. Lady recommended their take out breakfast sandwich special. Two eggs, bacon and cheese on a bun with a side hash brown and a coffee for under $6. If you feel like some good old greasy diner food this place is it. Their French onion soup is fabulous! Better then most restaurants I've tried (including posh fancy ones). I've been here a few times for lunch as it's one of the few restaurant in the area and it doesn't disappoint. Portions are huge so you always end up packing half home. read more

Haven't been here in a while, so on Sunday, decided to check it out to see if anything had changed. When we arrived, there was one person in front of us waiting for a table. A waitress (dark black hair) acknowledged us and advised us that it would be around a 5 - 10 minute wait for a table. Cool. As the only place to really wait is at the door, we stood behind the guy waiting. He was seated about 2 minutes later, so we stepped up to where he stood. Then another couple came in and stood behind us, then another couple with a 4 or 5 year came in. The last couple decided to cut in front of everyone else and stood closest to the counter, I guess because she thought that they'd skip the line and get seated first. She went to the counter and told the person there that were 3 of them. Sure enough, a waitress (who cleared a dirty table), yelled over specifically for "the woman in the purple coat" (the last couple to arrive but who positioned herself at the front of the line) to come over. My 14 year old niece said to the woman in the purple coat (as she started to walk towards the table) "I don't think so" and the waitress who saw us there first (the girl with the black hair) corrected the mistake and told the woman in the purple coat that there were two groups to be seated before them and she called us over instead. You'd think that it would be the end of it.....nope. Our waitress comes over to our table (the girl who cleaned the table and called over the other customer) and yells to the other waitress .."who are these people...I called over the woman in the purple coat". She did this while standing right in front of us. Talk about making a customer feel unwelcome. Thankfully, the server who was monitoring the line up at the door repeated again that we were next in line and that the person she called over had only been waiting about a minute. Our waitress wasn't impressed and our service certainly showed that she was pissed. I don't know if she knew the other people or not, but our service was certainly substandard after that. We waited far too long for her to come and take out order (we actually thought of going to the counter to order), coffee was not refilled (we had to ask another server for a refill...twice), she couldn't remember who ordered what (we were only a table of three) when our food came out, cream was not replenished, she never checked on us ....she certainly made our table of three feel unwelcome. Anyways, I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich (that had cheese sprinkled on the outside of it) with bacon and a side of home fries. My niece ordered a BLT with fries and the 3rd person ordered a BLT with a side of home fries. The food was very good and there was more than enough of it. While eating our bkfst (which, by the way, I really enjoyed) someone came out of the kitchen and we overheard him saying to one of the other staff members that he was worried how the soon-to-open Denny's would affect their business. I've been to Gordo's Diner a couple of times after work and must say I love their kind service and great food. I had their Sausage, bacon and ham (3.59 sides) with their french toast (6.99). They are the only breakfast place even that opens late. I am a huge fan of their All Day Breakfast meal. Their price in Vaughan is cheap compared to places like Spin Cafe (a chain restaurant in woodbridge). I found not only are the staff friendly and they have great customer service but they put their faith and trust in customers. They quickly had my name memorized and made you feel like a regular customer. I was very touched from the bad week I've been experiencing at other retailers. I complained and told stories about my bad week to everyone I could because I felt like I was treated unfairly and soon felt like Gordo's Diner was a second home to me. Came here for the first time today for breakfast. Got the Back bacon sandwich with egg and cheddar cheese to go. A little bit on the pricey side (for breakfast) but the sandwich was enormous. Flavourful and HUGGGGE. side potatoes also huge and delicious. The lady at the counter (didn't catch her name) offered me coffee and juice at no expense! I can't believe I just spent $21.00 on undercooked home fries and flavourless French toast. The extra star is purely for the environment aspect as this place is clearly intended to replicate a 50's diner. The interior alone is not enough to justify the cost or quality of the food.
