We rented a house with friends in this resort and really liked it. There were deer everywhere and the resort has ample things to do. The Deschutes river is beautiful and a hike along it is just blissful. We also rented a boat and rowed down the river. Bike trails are many and beautiful and for all fitness levels. The cove pool is just a joy for kids and there are many good options. As we went after Oregon had removed restrictions on wearing masks and such, too many people were without masks and the village was so crowded with everyone really close to each other. We didn't go to the village that much. The food that we got from there was good. Staff was friendly and helpful though everyone was short staffed and seemed to be working overtime. Would definitely recommend this place for some fun, sun and relaxation. read more

I have been here 4 days. fairway is at most half grass half dirt. break takes an hour for a simp meal just to get the cold food. if you ask for a manager on the phone I'm assuming their policy is to hang up on you which happened more than once. call to book a tee time good luck. no one answers after 30 minutes of calling. waste of money. read more

This is a must resort for any special occasion!! We stayed here for our anniversary and it is so romantically beautiful especially in the lodge villages room 725. Debra at the check in counter was very helpful with special tips for dining and touring! This magical room made our anniversary a very special one!! There are so many activities here for you to take part in! Also they have Pickleball courts inside and outside. Housekeeping service is very accommodating to your needs!! What a very special RESORT!! Please, please do not book a stay at this horrible resort. Our vacation was supposed to be between August 1- August 5th. The wildfires were still active and there was still smoke in the air. My 90 year old father was supposed to be traveling from back east to meet us in Oregon. Obviously no one should be in smoke but especially not a 90 year old man. We called the resort two weeks before arrival and were told by Melanie because of the smoke if we hadn't bought the travel insurance that the resort offers that we would've got the entire amount of money back from the trip. The travel insurance that we were told to buy from Sunriver resort, denied our claim, stating that you can't cancel a trip just because you think you may get sick from the smoke. Granted the resort did give us back about half of our money back. However, I called no less than six times and was told that my complaints about not getting the other half of our money back would be addressed by a supervisor. To this day, I have still not received a call from a supervisor. If someone from Sunriver Resort responds to this review by saying we are sorry you have these issues, please disregard their response because like I say not one supervisor has called me back. They are stonewalling me because they think I will just go away. read more

A solid 3-star experience. It wasn't bad by any means, we enjoyed ourselves, but it didn't blow our socks off either. We stayed in the older, original side of the resort and that wasn't our thing. I want to return and try Caldera which was newer and felt like our vibe. read more

Nice large property with plenty of outdoor activities. The rooms are decent. Larger then a normal hotel room but nothing to get super excited about although ours did have a working gas fireplace. The chairs in the room could be more comfortable and our room did have a nice sized deck off the golf course with 2 rocker Adirondack Chairs. That was nice to just chill in. They have a nice big pool area both covered and uncovered with a large bar. They provide free shuttle service around the nicely groomed big property. Plenty of shops and restaurants at the shopping / restaurant area (kind of like a Squaw Creek or other large resort property. They have a bike rental area - Bike Barn (see below): Only gave it 3 Stars. At this resort I expected the their bike rentals would be pretty good. They have a few bike models to choose from so that you should find the bike style you want or need. It was nice to be able to ride bikes around the resort but my advise bring your own if you can. Here is why I say this. Although we rented bikes they were not in great or good working order. (I will take a little of the blame since they tell you try the bikes - which we did) Here is the issue, although we took a very short test ride - it wasn't until we were riding away did we find out the shifters were a little difficult to change. We felt like we could deal with it but as we rode the gears were getting harder to change and had a mind of their own. We dealt with it and when we turned them in we mentioned the issues to the staff. They really were not interested and kind of acted very surprised. I wouldn't really complain but my wife's back tire wasn't even "true" it actually wobbled but I didn't see that until the last mile when she was riding in front of me. They kind of indicated that it might have been user error (which it isn't since I ride bikes all the time). Anyway it was nice to have a bike since the was the last day on a long road trip. We wanted to treat ourself to a nice stay the last day of our trip and ride bikes around the large property. I will say the staff was nice except at the end with their nonchalant attitude about possible bike repairs. read more

We had the Christmas dinner. Sadly, we were not served the main course until nearly two hours after being seated. We were told one hour after ordering that they were out of prime rib that four people of our six had ordered. Then the waitress came back and said they had enough to serve us. The portions were small and mashed potatoes were about a tablespoon size. The soup was 1/2 the size as last year. because they were taking so long, the waitress brought us two large orders of french fries. that was actually the best part of the $100 meal; drinks extra and expensive. the duck was ok. the lasagna was no better than frozen lasagna you would heat up from a frozen dinner. A much different experience than last year, when the portions were tastier and larger and the meal didn't take nearly two hours. Extremely nice server, however! read more

A perfect vacation in the list beautiful settings in beautiful Oregon. I had heard a lot about this place from moms in my group and what can I say it lived up to the hype. Everything about it was excellent from the ever courteous staff to the location to the float on the Deschutes river. A must do for everyone even non swimmers like me it's so safe and a must do float while at the resort. The cove pool is wonderful for the kids. They have a couple of dining options and the village is so close by that we just biked there for dinner some days. Highly recommend esp in these covid times they are doing a great job. Great resort with tons of amenities. The rooms were rustic but charming and fit well with the surrounding area. They have hiking, biking, water activities. Several Restaurants on property, spa, hot tubs and much much more. ;) I'd give them 5 stars but being charged $5 room service fee plus a $14 one at check out with a mandatory 20% tip is kinda outrageous, but not having to leave my room and still enjoy an upscale meal in front of the fireplace was totally worth it! Our stay was absolutely disappointing, and how the staff and later the Director of Guest Relations handled my concerns was simply offensive. Before our stay, my wife called the 855 to request add-ons to lodging since it was my birthday weekend. The representative said the add-on I requested was not available even though it was included on the resort's website. Why do you offer add-on on your website which are not available to your guests? When we checked in, the staff at registration was clueless about the resort's amenities and offerings. We was specifically asking about ticket discounts to ski at Mt. Bachelor and the staff had no idea what I was talking about. We explained this was advertised on the resort's website and in my confirmation email received from the resort. Again, clueless and no help at all, and really frustrating to deal with. We also asked things I could do with my children and her only response was the pool - nothing more. Please educate your staff about the resort's offerings and the surrounding area. Our heater broke down and we had no heat overnight. My son, who was sleeping downstairs, had to move upstairs with us because the lodge was freezing. Luckily, the heater was fixed in the morning. During our 4 nights stay, we only asked once for housekeeping. When they came, they failed to make any of the beds. We are not talking about changing sheets - the beds were simply not made. What is the point of asking for housekeeping if a basic service is not met? The last issue which was the most concerning and offensive part of our stay. Our rental car broke down after a day of skiing at Mt. Bachelor. The only reason we called the resort was the website offered a shuttle service. The staff answering the phone at first said, we missed the shuttle at 4:00 pm. We explained AGAIN we were stuck on the mountain with small children and asked if it was possible for another shuttle service. Her next response was "we will charge you $30 per person." The whole part of we are stuck on a mountain with small children did not register with her. In response, we said we don't care how much it costs, we need help please. Her response was she would need to check and call me back. In the interim, she gave me a number of a town car company that she expected me to call on a late afternoon of Easter Sunday. Really? we did not hear back from her on whether another shuttle was possible and ended up hitching a ride from Mt. Bachelor's employee bus, whose driver was kind enough to help my wife and my children. The next day we raised all of my concerns regarding our stay with the Director of Guest Relations, who listened and took down my name and number and said he would investigate the matter and call me. He called the next day and left a VM saying the staff followed the "policy" when responding to my concerns about shuttle services and that "we will not provide you any compensation." After hearing this man's VM, we were angered and offended at how he failed to respond to our concerns. We NEVER asked for compensation or expected one. Furthermore, he completely ignored all the other concerns we raised about my stay and simply stuck to the issue of the shuttle service. Honestly, all we were looking for was a simple "I am sorry for the inconvenience, and we will do better." Nothing more. Yet, at no point during my discussion in person or in his VM did we hear this. Absolutely upsetting and disappointing with the way things were handled, and we feel there was bias on how the resort responded to my concerns. read more

Premium room for over $700 a night after fees. Resort refused to clean our room. Their justification was that they will only clean upon request and will clean only the next day after you submit your request. No one informed me at check-in that this was a policy. When I tried to resolve with management, they pointed me to this murky paragraph in the literature that they provide to guests. Feels like a very low class move from a place that holds themselves out (and charges) like a classier place. This was our first Christmas away from family in Oregon. I thought it would be nice to spend time away just the 2 of us. We decided to stay at Sunriver Resort for 4 nights, Saturday 12/22 - Thurs 12/27. We arrived a bit early and the room was already available, so that was nice. We had a king bed lodge with chairs in front of the fire. We dialed up the 60 minute fire every time we were in the room. The set-up was lovely and the grounds were very pretty. My main goal was to get the sky to sprinkle some white stuff on the grounds (and me!). I'm from Southern California, so snow is not something we get to see. Day 1: We went to the Twisted River Tavern restaurant. It's quite pricey, but the drinks were good and the food was about average. We got the duck nuggets...they were decent enough. Day 2: We took the shuttle into the village (they even came to our door to pick us up so that we didn't have to stand out in the cold!) for breakfast at Cafe Sintra. What a cute place with a nice menu too. We had to waste about 35 minutes of time until the Live Laugh Love Art studio opened up. We spent over 2 hours in there (we're not very artistic or decisive). This is such a great place for a resort stay...a time waster in the best way. We headed back into town for happy hour at the South Bend Bistro. Such a lovely, quaint little location with excellent service. We ended the night back at the Twisted River Tavern for a glass of wine and a Caramel Dream. Day 3 (Christmas Eve): Breakfast at Carson's (excellent again), then Spa Day at Sage Springs! We had an 80 minute couples massage and spent 30 minutes in the Oasis Room. We followed that with dinner at Marcello's Cucina Italiana for a nice steak dinner for me and pizza for my husband. Day 4 (Christmas Day): We ate our Carson's leftover's and then headed off on the 9:30am van ($10 for resort guests - these are seasonal times) to Mt. Bachelor. We were not ready to go all in and ski or snowboard, so we decided to go snow tubing. The great thing is, they tow you up and then you fly down. I believe it's about $30/person for 2 hours. We ate lunch at the lodge (get the charcuterie plate!) and headed back to town. We thought it was a good idea to walk in the freezing cold snowy walkway from the resort to the village market on Christmas day to get some alcoholic beverages...only to find it was closed. We turned our disappointed butts around and went back to our room (okay, we got exercise at least!) and ate our Marcello's leftovers. Day 5: I had to work from the room. We waited until about 3pm (it was dead slow anyway) and headed over to Bend. We have a McMenamin's passport, so we wanted to hit up the local one while we were there. We would up eating at a Bangers and Brews and it was pretty good. Day 6: Time to go home. We had breakfast in Carson's before we headed out. :( read more

Made the golf courses private. After 20 years of regular patronage, I'll never go there again.

We just spent 5 days at the Resort with our dog Murphy and felt it was mostly accommodating except for the pool. It's too bad the pool wasn't accommodating since it had a bar that served food, which is weird because their lodge allows dogs on the patio restaurant and bar. We were able to enjoy the many miles of bike trails with our dog and floating down the Deschutes River. The Marina was very accommodating with letting Murphy go in the raft. We were surprised the dog friendly room was upstairs and unfortunately we weren't able to change, so our 15yr old, partially blind Murphy had some trouble. Make sure you ask for a lower level and if you have your heart set on the pool, you will be out of luck unless you arrange a dog sitter. read more

We used Sunriver Resort and stayed in one of the Fremont Crossing vacation rental homes for four nights. The home plenty large for our family and quite comfortable. Location was very close to the village and while I am not a big fan of resort communities, this was comfortable and fun. However, I will not be giving Sunriver Resort my business in the future and recommend all of you consider the following. Price: The per-night lodging was quite modest given the size and condition of the house in which we stayed. It was clean with amenities for laundry, full kitchen, 2.5 bathrooms, large family room, etc. However the taxes and additional fees were approximately 40% of the overall price of the total room rates and these were not communicated in advance. So when you are budgeting, and staying in the vacation homes, budget 40% above the listed prices. I am used to add-ons but this was as large as I have ever seen it (I travel all over the world). Problems: If everything goes OK, then, as in most places, the experience is fine. However, our family group experienced two significant problems. 1) Our group stayed in multiple homes in Fremont Crossing. In the house my brother-in-law stayed, there was a prominent stench of something rotting. They concluded it was a dead animal in the wall somewhere. The management offered a different place to stay, but only for one of the four nights that was booked since everything else was "full". They also provided a 50% discount. The problem will all of this is that the smell had to have been obvious to the house cleaners and to the previous tenants. So they knew, going into the situation, that this would be a problem. 2) In the home myself and my family stayed, on the 2nd day of our stay we noticed the smell of a natural gas leak. It became more significant during the day and finally, after concluding it was coming from the cooking range, we phoned the front desk. Long story short, we missed an evening event to keep the house open for ventilation, and only after the 3rd phone call to the font desk and informing them our next call would be to 911 did they send maintenance. In all three calls, we used the term "gas leak" and maintenance did not show up until 2 hours after the first call. The maintenance man arrived, barely spoke, did not introduce himself, was in an unmarked truck, not in uniform; he pulled the range top off the counter and found the local shut-off valve for the gas. "Let's see if that will do the trick." he said. He said that whenever "they put that stuff in the gas lines, we can always smell it.". This is ridiculous since the smell of gas (actually the smell of the chemical they add to the gas) always means there is a leak. Shutting off that valve did cause the smell to stop but we were without the cooktop for the duration of our visit. Upon calling to complain after our return home, Scott at the front desk told my wife that we had been offered an alternate place to stay (this is not true, nobody offered us anything and we had to threaten calling the gas company and 911 befoer they sent anyone to address the problem). He was not willing to offer any compensation for this. It is my speculation that the gas leak in that place (#2 Fremont Crossing) has yet to be repaired so if you go there, don't use open flames. I do not think I have ever been treated with such negligence at a resort community or by any hospitality organization. read more

Idyllic getaway for the whole family. This was the perfect Sunriver experience for my husband, our two kids and I. The suite has a great deck from which to enjoy a wonderful view of Mt. Bachelor. The room had a beautiful fireplace that created a cozy atmosphere. I highly recommend the corn chowder from the Owl's Nest. For a salty treat get the fry basket and ask for the garlic aioli. Hubby spoke highly of the Old Fashioned from there as well. The Cove was our 8 year old daughter's fav. I liked it better than SHARC because there were plenty of umbrellas for shade and the convenience of poolside bars. read more

Beware, Covid has impacted the amenities at Sun River Resort. We received a text saying we would not be getting maid/cleaning service for stays of less than 5 nights. Really? Blamed on Covid.... The Cove Pool is more of a water park for kids and families and not relaxing for adults without children. The young staff were professional and polite, but stressed because of the crowded sessions. The jacuzzi's were closed, and you had to sign up for one of three sessions to swim. The hours of 10:00 am to 8:00pm were all packed with swimmers who waited patiently in line to enter each time slot. We couldn't get reservations for dinner at the main lodge two weekday nights in a row, and the village down the street had similarly packed eating places with long wait lines. We arrived during the heatwave, June 20th-22nd and checked out one day early knowing we would not be compensated for the last night or sub par amenities. They need to have enough staff to make this resort a good experience and adjust their prices accordingly. read more

Okay so over all this resort has a lot to offer, my family and I just didn't have a phenomenal experience. The people were very nice it was just the service that wasn't great. We stayed for 3 nights Night 1: great. Everything worked the way it should. Only one issue we asked for something to be delivered and it took hours! Night 2: great again. We asked for towels to be delivered and it took hours, again! Night 3: not great. Our TV wasn't working (not the hotels fault), and there was no hot water! My family and I don't take long showers, and we take them and about 5 min intervals. Day experiences: The resort offers a great pool that is super fun for the entire family!! The resort also offers options for tubing, kayaking, and SUPing (water is very cold and a little stagnant)! **Please keep in mind that this is just our family's experience for a long weekend trip** read more

We booked a home then decided we needed a larger one so I called the reservation line two weeks in advance to upsize our rental. I was willing to be flexible on homes, rates, and dates. I didn't receive a return call so I emailed them and again no response. I didn't receive a response to my first email so I emailed again and finally a day later I received a return call and was told I was within the cancellation window and could not change. This was after 2 weeks of trying to contact them. Extremely poor customer service so we will book through their competitor going forward. We have rented 8 homes from them over the past 2 years and still received poor customer service. read more

Sunriver overall has taken a major hit with the closure of the North Pool. There is no longer a place for adults or groups with older children to go and swim and relax. The SHARC (sp?), is great if you have children under 10, beyond that you can only use the River and have to find an undeveloped beach head, which sometimes will have difficult access. We have been renting homes for over 20 years at Sunriver, and now are considering alternatives strictly because of the swimming situation. With the major increases in prices for home rentals you would think the area would provide equal recreational activities vs less. read more

We've been lucky to spend part of our vacations at this resort with friends who have transplanted from Kailua, HI. They own a cabin near the hotel and have access to the numerous activities such as fly & spin fishing, horseback riding, whitewater rafting, biking trails, walking paths, 3 golf courses and ski resort. Sunriver resort is an outdoor enthusiast's dream. At night, there are hardly any bright lights around so you can see up to the clear skies that is filled with twinkling stars. During a Winter stay, we saw 2 "falling stars" while languishing in their private outdoor hot tub. We had fun just relaxing by the fireside and sipping our home made hot buttered rums or mulled apple ciders. Also, because our friend is a former chef, her kitchen was well-stocked and we cooked our most of our meals. During daytime, we'd bundle up and just put on our boots then walk about in the cold clean air. It was exhilarating to be in the snow and wandering about this resort. During a Summer visit, we stayed here for about a weeklong golf "retreat". We managed to golf their 3 courses (Meadows, Woodside and Crosswater) out of 4. Each course was distinctly different from each other and have hosted USGA and NCAA golf championships. We were surrounded by the lushness of the Deschutes National Forest filled with Ponderosa and Lodgepole pine trees. The Deschutes River ran through the golf courses which made our rounds of golf even more scenic and challenging. There were more outdoor activities which we could have participated in, like biking or hiking, but we came here to golf. And by golly, we certainly DID! We're looking forward to returning to this resort again in either Spring or Summer. #498 read more

Here is a list of things I wrote about on my last two trips to Sunriver and they stand today as my review. The only thing I would add is David at the front desk did a first rate job! Take advantage of the "Buy a $150.00 gift certificate and get a free nights stay" deal! Check out the fire pit! Always check ahead about the weather as snow can make a guest appearance prior to Summer. Check out the golf rates! Get a room with a view! Always check for specials and enjoy! And don't forget the views! Bring warm clothes as it does get cold here, even in late April. Any time is a good time here! Check out the Halibut Fish and Chips! Ask for specials and get a view room/suite. Check for the various specials for different services at the resort. There is usually at least one special going on at Sage Springs Spa so watch or ask. The Lodge Suites facing Mt Bachelor and the meadow has the best views! Make reservations at the Crows Nest for quick seating. Check out the Christmas Light Illumination and fireworks! The one special that's great is the one where you buy one $150.00 gift certificate you get a free night stay! Bring warm clothes as it can get chilly during fall/winter. Love the views and love this place. Watch for specials! Bicycling out by the airport at Sunriver. Nice views! Check out the Maverick and SHARC! Great staff and accommodation's! I've been coming to Sunriver every year since I was a child in the 1990s. What I have noticed over the years is prices keep going up but quality of rentals stays the same and more often than not the quality goes down. This most recent trip we decided to stay at the lodge in a room with a view and kitchenette. The positives are the unit had two bathrooms, was updated compared to the older units and did have a wonderful view on the mountain. Unfortunately there were a ton of negatives about our stay though. We arrived at 4:05 with a truck loaded with stuff including bikes and luggage, electronics and personal items. Our room was not ready. They told us to grab dinner and they'd text when our room was done. We were not comfortable leaving everything in our truck bed for anyone to grab so instead we sat in the parking lot and waited.... And waited... no text. At 6pm I went back to the front desk and was told the room "had been ready for some time" - it sure would've be nice to get a call or text as promised so we could have started our vacation instead of listening to our kids cry about being stuck in a parking lot. Upon entry to the room it was obvious the cleaning services were severely lacking. There was food in the kitchen sink. The dishwasher was running - so I guess I get to empty the last guests dirty dishes? The windows looking out at the back deck were covered in grimy handprints and smears of liquid. The sofa had trails of food, the table was sticky and the bathroom trashcan had chewing gum, chewed and hardened stuck to the lid. We paid almost $700/ night to walk into a space and then have to clean it. I wiped everything down with Lysol's wipes so we could feel comfortable staying. After 2 hours in a parking lot the last thing I wanted to was to wait for housekeeping to come back. That night I showered and while standing in the steam I noticed a message on the glass door of the shower. Previous guest had drawn a message in steam and housekeeping clearly didn't clean the shower between guests, because there it was written on the wall. A recommendation for the lodge is to add screens to the door so you can get fresh air breeze without getting mosquitos and bugs in your room. Given we were traveling during a Covid peak it's nice to get some ventilation in a room someone else just checked out of. The cleanliness issues did not stop in our room. The Cove pool was so gross. The tables that are attached to every lounge chair have remnants of food and beverages caked to them. Every morning we got to the pool when it opened and I cleaned yesterdays mess off of 4 chairs for our family. The womens bathroom had paper towels and pool towels all over the floor every day, for hours on end. A resort charging this much money for a weekday stay should properly clean facilities. The pool is also way too small for the numbers of guests allowed to use it - it's not just for lodge guests, anyone renting a condo or townhome or house through Sunriver can also use the pool. There are hours in the day where you cannot put your legs or arms out without touching a stranger. The cabanas are large but I watched them clean between guests (morning reservations Vs afternoon reservations) and they clean nothing, they just walk through, open the curtain and pick up dirty dishes. They don't wipe anything down or clean the pads on the furniture. I won't let this trip spoil my view of Sunriver in general because I have way too many fond memories of the place. I will not ever pay these prices again. They are fully taking advantage of customers who believe they will get what they pay for; you won't, you will get a poorly run hotel that is dirty and be charged like you're staying a 5 star resort. Walking away from a vacation feeling you were just scammed is not pleasant and I hope you avoid our experience. read more

Looking forward to LEAVING. The room was dirty when we checked in. The tub had black stuff all over it. The napkin holder on the vanity had 3-4 months of dust. The sinks and vanity had never been cleaned from the previous guests. The top sheet of the bed had not been changed. We asked the front desk to clean our room and they indicated that you had to stay for 5 nights to get housekeeping to clean the room. The food we had for breakfast was awful. On a good point the owl's nest had great food. We have been coming to this resort over 35 years!! We will use a vrbo when we return. It's too bad that the resort has gone downhill to this level. read more

First time staying at Sunriver. When we checked in to our condo at tennis village, we found the place infested with large carpenter ants. When we called the front desk and spoke with Merissa, she wasn't willing to move us to another unit. Apparently she didn't care we were upset and concerned the kids would be bitten or just uncomfortable. Besides the large ant infestation the unit was in poor shape. The carpets and floors were very dirty. The place was rundown. I don't understand the high ratings. read more

A serendipitous find! My aunt recommended a visit to Sunriver as a great family vacation destination. She was so right. And she even came up from Eugene area with her hubby and grandson to meet up with our family group. We were able to each rent right-sized condos within two minutes walking distance of each other. That enabled sharing of dishes to concoct a family reunion pot luck dinner the last night of our stay. Our place came with bikes in the garage - a score for the kids! They spent most of the time off on the multitude of bike paths throughout the resort. Most are shielded from car / truck traffic, so it was a safe and fun option for the boys. We had three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a full kitchen, and a hot tub on the deck to enjoy. Also featured a laundry closet, which we put to good use! Cabin chic decor was in keeping with the pines and woodsy area. The owners have it stocked with books and games. Thought there was a TV, it was better to relax as unplugged as possible. The SHARC water park was a big hit. On our arrival night, they had a free concert in the park adjacent to the water rides and pools. Dear Hubby even wants to look into buying a place there. That's saying something. Not sure I could handle the cold winters, but it was great in the summer time! Some of the restaurants weren't "all that", but we didn't take time to Yelp ahead of our drop ins - shame on us. As a Southern Californian, it's a long way to get to Sunriver, but it was worth the journey for the pleasure of being there. Next time we'd want to stay longer. read more

Beautifully remodeled rooms, and the cove is amazing! Gotta love a poolside bar. We had breakfast at the lodge kitchen, and Sandy's service was absolutely wonderful. Overall, a fantastic stay, and we can't wait to go back! read more
