We rented the Canvasback cabin for our elderly parents to use while we camped at nearby Paulina Lake. It had obviously just gone through a renovation since the fumes gave me headache shortly after arrival. The closet had the wall apparatus used to hang the closet bar for clothes, but there was no actual bar. The room with the bunk bed had nothing, not even hooks on the wall for hanging clothes. The shower was so tiny you aren't able to shave your legs, and the showerbead was positioned too low for my 5'8 son to use to rinse shampoo. There was no microwave, as indicated in our reservation and the stairs from both entrances were hazardous to our parents. Overall, it worked for us (since our parents just needed to sleep close to a bathroom) but it was a huge disappointment for the price and not something we'll consider again.

I've been coming here with my family my entire life. Great spot for fishing, kayaking, boating, or grabbing a bite to eat. Boat rentals are always great. They will help you come back in and launch, as well as give tips and supply a net if you ask for one.

Once you've hit La Pine and you feel like you want to get farther away from it all, turn on Paulina Lake Road. And if Paulina Lake is too crowded for you and you really, really want to get away from it all, then drive a little farther to East Lake. This is a beautiful place we've visited on several occasions, but this time we decided to stay. OK, in the interest of full disclosure, Mr. K and my youngest stayed in the campground for a few days. I was just a day-tripper. This is what happens when you have one child obsessed with fishing and the other one not so much. They have several campgrounds along the lake, as well as cabins, and the resort has about dozen different types of boats for rent. Everything from a party boat for 12 to small fishing boats with outboard motors. You can rent them by the half or full day. The lake is stocked with salmon and the highlight for my son was seeing 35,000 fish delivered to the lake during their stay. Unfortunately, most of their time was spent hooking garbage fish. The campground was nice, but make sure you pack in enough provisions for your stay. The restaurant and snack shack are only open for breakfast and lunch and it is a long drive back to La Pine (18 miles). One other important note. There is a day use fee if you are visiting the area ($5/day), but you do not need to pay this if you are staying at the campground and leave your car at your campsite. We also went in search of the hot springs, but weren't successful at finding anything that you'd want to bathe in. Just found the sweet, sweet smell of sulfer and a few bubbles.

Looking out over the lake while we ate. Dogs allowed too :)

The grounds have paved trails all over, with quick walks or bike rides to restaurants, bars, and outdoor activities. They have a free shuttle that can get you around to places quicker too! My room was gorgeous, with high ceilings, wood, and soft decor. The bathroom was very modern and comfortable. Worth the cost. Another place I really wanted to visit was the indoor heated pool area that looked amazing. Maybe next time! For the event we had catered amazing meals of local produce and meats, so many flavorful items. The event spaces all have a lodge feel to them as well, comfortable. I highly recommend staying here for a few days if you're in the area.

We stayed here one night on our way through town on a 10 day road trip…read more Our room was great! Very nicely kept, updated, and had everything we could have possibly needed. The furniture is very nice, the bed was very comfortable, the electric fire place kept us warm through the night and we loved the rustic feel of the entire place. Even the bathroom is nicely updated and spacious with a great shower. The lodge sits in a nice neighborhood a little off the beaten path. Town is a quick drive away if you need to stock up on anything, find a restaurant, or stores. There is a small fridge available in the rooms. There is a common area with a hot tub and a grill that can be used but we didn't check out that area so I can't give it any rating with my review. The owners of the lodge also have the MotoFantasy business at this location if you'd like to rent a motorcycle to tour around on. We got a chance to look at some of the bikes, and chat with one of the owners, but didn't have time on our trip to rent a bike. Our only complaint was how loud the noise is from others staying in the lodge. It's not that the neighboring people are intentionally being loud. The lodge itself just has a very hollow sound throughout and isn't set up to soften the noise coming from other rooms. We could clearly hear others talking, phones beeping and ringing, TV, doors opening and closing, others showering, toilets flushing and just general walking and moving around. It made for a loud evening & morning. We left pretty early due to this. Overall, we enjoyed our visit to the area. It's a very nice lodge and an awesome place to check out the motorcycles. Just bring some ear plugs for a good nights sleep.

I didn't catch her name but she was very friendly. She asked if we needed anything after doing a quick scan of our room and even went to see if she could find decaf coffee for us. Which speaking of coffee, its a real coffee pot with real coffee! Not just the pods. Some stir sticks would be nice. Our two good sized dogs had plenty of yard to run around (we made sure to clean up after them immediately each time). The room was clean and cute. We did move the furniture around to suite us better. The chair sits in front of the couch due to it being a small room. It still worked perfect for us. We sat on the couch and used the ottoman to play cards and dice while we watched a Halloween movie. The gas fireplace in the corner was a nice touch. It was a super cozy evening! There are two adjoining doors on either side of the room if you had friends or family in other rooms. The refer is a good size for drinks and snacks. The bathroom is big with a big walk in shower. Easily fit 2 of us. It did take me several minutes of messing with all the knobs to figure out the shower. The water pressure was just OK. The temperature knob was very touchy... quickly went from warm to hot. Check in and out was super simple. I sent a text to Gloria and she was quick to respond. I am giving 5 stars, even with the minor issues, because overall it was a great stay and we will be back for sure!

You're riding along the Mackenzie river on a single track trail for up to 25 miles. The scenery is amazing. The water is roaring and clear. The trail is very well maintained. I'm glad this business exists and people have an opportunity to explore this terrific landscape. The bad: we showed up and the guy behind the desk was stressed and had a lot of anxiety. It was only us and one other group of two people. We planned on doing the entire trail (25 miles) but were told the top 9 miles is very technical and we should only do the bottom 16 miles. We submitted and said okay. Unfortunately, where we dropped off only allowed for 10 miles of beginner riding. I called when we finished and they said it was a miss-communication on their part and would take us further up. We went further up and did the next 10 miles. There was one mile of pretty technical riding where we had to stop riding and walk a decent amount. The rest of the time was all beginner/intermediate riding. When finished we couldn't call the shop to get picked up because there was no service. We rode along the road until there was service and called and txted the driver 11 times. No answer. We finally called the shop and were informed that "his phone was on the charger." They said he would be here to pick us up in 15 minutes. 30 minutes later I called back and got a lot of attitude from the front desk staff saying "we have other things to do to." Luckily it was an amazing ride. Really hoping they can get their communication and customer service dialed in!

The shower: Is only big enough for one average size person. The hot water lasts for about 10 minutes and if you have to choose between washing your hair or your body make the choice before you go in. It goes from hot to below freezing in 1 minute. NO grace. The shower head does not move. The shower curtain was gross!!!! Look at the pictures. Orange from the sulfur and pink from MOLD!!! Really, how hard is it to clean a shower curtain between each new occupants! Rustic Cabins: Rustic on the outside and filthy on the inside. The cupboards and countertops were covered in greasy grime. I had to clean the counters to use them. I didn't put anything in the cupboards. Gross! The beds: Uncomfortable. We rolled into the middle of the beds. They say queen but they were double size beds. My husband is 6'2" and he legs went way off the end of the bed, by at least five or six inches. This of course hurt his back. I talked to Todd about the beds and he said they were only a year or two old. Doesn't matter if they aren't flat so that you guests can get a good nights sleep. We used to come here before many people knew about it. It was really enjoyable to take a drive, no matter the weather just to take a soak. We started mainly to ease some aches, and pains I would get from fibromyalgia, and then I had ulnar nerve issues, which I ended up having surgery. Coming here really helped me in my recovery back then. We also had a travel trailer we used to bring here, which I really enjoyed, because you get to utilize the upper pool. You only get to use the upper pool, if you are a guest staying there. No day guest users allowed. We have also rented cabins, they are also really nice. I highly recommend taking a stroll through their secret garden area. It is truly magical. I know in the past people used to have issues with the staff...this was a few years ago. I feel like possibly there may be new owners or staff now? Because things seemed way different when we recently stopped in. At least a lot friendlier. So changed in a good way. I just wish I had all of the pics I remember having of the garden, and the upper lot from when we would camp. We stopped going here so much over the years, for one we sold our trailer, and two it became so popular it would get over crowded in the regular pool. I was glad we made a return. There is just something in the water that makes you feel renewed again. The whole property is just beautiful. No matter what time of year you go, you won't regret it. I have even gone in a rainstorm, and snowstorm.

Disturbing Experience and Dismissive Staff Response…read more I stayed at Belknap Hot Springs with my family for one night and was deeply unsettled by what happened during our visit. After checking out of our campsite at 11 AM--as instructed--we were told by the night clerk that we could continue using the pools throughout the day, which seemed like a generous and normal amenity. When I returned to the pool in the afternoon, I witnessed a man openly exposing himself on a lounge chair. This was not subtle or accidental--his genitals were completely visible, and the pool was full of families, young children, and teenage girls. I immediately went to the front desk to report it. Instead of responding with concern, the staff member I spoke with immediately questioned whether I was "still staying there." I explained that I had followed the instructions given by their own staff and was willing to pay for day use if needed. She simply replied, "There isn't day use," and told me to leave. No one seemed interested in addressing the actual problem or taking action to protect other guests. There was no apology. No indication that they would speak to the man. No concern whatsoever about the safety of the many children present. The response I received was dismissive and unsettling. I left feeling disturbed--not just by what I witnessed, but by the staff's complete lack of appropriate response. This is not how a resort should handle a report involving inappropriate exposure near minors. Unless measures are taken -- I won't be returning. I'm sharing this so that other families are aware and so that Belknap considers revisiting their staff training and safety protocols.
