This campground was such a great find on our impromptu trip to Bend, OR in May. We were looking anywhere to find a campground who would take same day reservations and finally came across this campground. The website was SUPER easy to navigate and we reserved a spot within 10 minutes. The pricing was also super reasonable. The resort is about an hour south of Bend but worth the drive. The resort sits on the prettiest lake with a view of the Sisters mountains in the background on a nice day (as pictured). The sites are all surprisingly spacious and mostly level. The campground was easily the cleanest and well kept that we have seen having traveling across the country several times via RV. We will definitely try to come back some day. Their resort store was also very clean kept and had all the basics and firewood you would need. read more

we did not camp here or stay here. We came for the day and rented a boat, called the Voyager, which was a 20 foot pontoon boat. Five of us, including our three kids went fishing on this lake. It was a super easy experience, and the people running this operation were very professional. The shop where we checked in has everything you need. Ice, bait, other fishing supplies. Shout out to JT, Donny, and Blake. it was about an easy experience has could imagine. unfortunately, we didn't catch any fish. We really tried hard but we loved the whole day experience anyway. What a nice lake, but that's where the good stuff ends. Stayed in the cabins 1&2, beds were absolute junk and 1 broke when sat on. Landscapers decided to mow right next to us on Saturday afternoon with their rock chucking mower. I asked if they could do that that and was told to move my truck if I didn't want it hit with rocks !!!!! Called management after the stay and was told I didn't pay for moorage??? pulled boats up on the beach, was also told we had to many cars. I was told prior to going "some people just pulled their boats onto the beach" didn't say anything about paying. I also asked about vehicles and a truck camper and no one said anything about more fees, which would've been understandable but no mention of it. Rented a boat to fish the lake for a few hours. You can only rent for a whole day, which is fine but they would be better off with half days. Nearly all their boats were available. Staff was rude, very rigid and rules posted everywhere. The kicker which I thought was hilarious was the pit toilet required a code to use and you had to buy something to get the code. Its clear the staff aren't happy, thus the rude customer service. We wont be back there. In contrast we went to Lava Lake Resort the next day and night and day difference. Folks were super friendly, place was clean, you can do 2 hour boat rentals. We found our new favorite place. read more

Currently staying in Cabin 5. This cabin is about to fall over and can't possibly be legal to rent. Open junction box with exposed wiring, a ladder to the loft certainly doesn't meet any building code I know of. If there were a fire, and there are many potential sources, you would be SOL trying to get out. Combine that with the dust coming from the road and it has been a less than pleasant experience. On top of that, the fishing is at best marginal and the staff is rude. The store closes at 4 and you cant rent boats past that. Good luck fishing in the evenings if you need to rent a boat. read more

This is a small little resort with a couple of cabins, a couple gas pumps, and a pretty nice little general store. It is good to have around when you are camping around the lake. The little beach near the lake is pretty nice....the lakebed seems to be chock full of weeds....not to cool to step in. You never know what you're going to step in! The service was nice and the prices weren't out of control. I recommend coming here for the view on a summer adventure. You can see the South Sister, Broken Top, and Mt. Bachelor from here. The view is beautiful. It is worth the trip. read more

Don't waste your money. The staff are rude, they told us yesterday to turn off our fans because it was causing a problem with their circuits and the shore around the water is horrible. No decent spot to hang out, let the kids play etc. Not impressed and will not be back read more

Nice place. We just stayed here for the 2015 deer season and rented one of the rustic cabins. For $55 a night it was much more comfortable than staying in a tent and lugging all our camping gear in. A dry bed, a nice warm fire in the wood stove and a cool old gas stove to cook dinner on. Played some cards and drank some whisky before bed. Awesome. Negative reviewers seem to have had personal issues with staff (we had none) and then used the platform to rip on the place. Don't expect a bell hop and turn down service. The cabins are as advertised. There will not be a chocolate under your pillow when you return each day. But when you brew some coffee on that old stove and step outside to see the lake and South Sister from your stoop, you will forget about those trivial inconveniences. read more

Well if you want to stay in a "cabin" smack dab in the middle of a parking lot then this is your place! The "cabin" is more of a old shed converted into a spiders paradise. The owners are super nice but the accommodations are absolutely ridiculous, Basically they are selling you on a "cabin" with lots of amenities but when you arrive that's not the case. Get yourself a nice campsite and enjoy the ample fishing opportunities. Overall we enjoyed our stay but had to make the best of our "cabin" experience. Would not stay here again... read more

Stunning location with a huge lake/reservoir, store and extensive campgrounds with plenty of spots on the water. You can rent paddleboards and kayaks to take out on the water, and there's plenty of parking. Stunning views and benches around the area to sit and chill in to soak up the scenery. read more

Beautiful and well kept camp ground with full RV hook ups. Kid and dog friendly. We rented boats and went fishing, making great memories. They provided life vest and a good walk through of the boat. Only draw back was that the laundry was secured due to vandalism,,, but that won't take a star from them. Amazing friendly owner operated staff, love this place. Word to the wise, it's a little tight backing into your campsite, but totally worth it!!! read more

We had read some old reviews and were worried before arriving there, but it is obvious there is new management. Horrible customer service!  We reserved 2 boats and showed up that morning to rain, 45 degrees and 20mph wind.  We were willing to pay for the boats even though we were not using them, however the man and woman running the tackle shop and boat rental were completely unreasonable from the moment we walked in.  We had two young kids with us and they said oh your kids will be fine.  Apparently the lure of the almighty dollar is more important than customer safety or satisfaction.  In the end they were unwilling to offer a discount or a gift certificate for another outing.  Apparently not interested in repeat business. read more

What a wonderful place! My brother and I visited Crane Prairie Resort for a two day fishing stay. We reserved one of the rustic one room cabins for two days. The cabin had a gas cooking stove, electricity and wood supply for the wood stove. It was furnished with two made up beds as well as linen supplies that included towels and wash cloths. Pots and pans and eating utensils were supplied. The cost was $50.00 per night with $10 per night moorage for my boat. There was a $1.00 charge for using my credit card for the stay. Reservation was easily done by phone. Although there are tent and RV spaces available, I loved the rustic cabin as it gave a sense of camping without the bother of setting up a tent and bringing along the necessary supplies for camping. It would be a great place to take my grand kids or young children to give them a pleasant unforgettable experience of a wilderness setting. The cabin was clean and had sufficient bedding to take care of the chill of the evenings during spring or summer. Out door restrooms were near by as well as shower facilities. Both were clean and well maintained. The grounds and facilities were very clean. The staff was very accommodating, pleasant and cheerful. The store was well stocked with food items and supplies for camping and fishing. Prices were reasonable. The fishing was way above our expectations. We caught Rainbows (Cranebows) fly fishing between 18 and 27 inches and brook trout between 15.5 and 21 inches. We used several methods including night crawlers as well as fly fishing. Our best success was stripping a brown shaded wooly bugger. Also used with great success was using an indicator fly with an acronamid nymph or other brown colored type nymph (size 18 to 22) tied to the hook of the indicator fly with a 6 to 8 pound leader 18 to 24 inches long. The length of the leader depends on the depth of the water. We fished in water that was from three to six feet deep. Due to the size of the fish we lost several but were able to keep 9 fish in our 2.5 days of fishing. We released several others as their size exceeded our trout limit for the day. -- we had trouble catching fish smaller than 16 inches. read more

I've been coming up to Crane Prairie for the past 8 years with the same group of guys. We stay at the campground next door but we rent boats and get a lot of our tackle and snacks here at the store. Prices are competitive and it gives us a chance to see what other people are using. Everyone working here is nice and willing to help you with advice on where to go and what to use to catch fish. The pay showers are really nice after a few days sweatin it out on the lake! read more

Because the rules are enforced, you don't have to spend your vacation frustrated by loose and barking dogs, loud and obnoxious guests, etc... The sites are clean and spacious. I used to love this campground when I was younger. Now that I reserved a week to camp here with my family I will not come back again. Why have store owners who tell your spouse one thing and then get upset with you. We have a 1 year old who CAN NOT wear a mask as he is too young and will suffocate. My husband said that and asked if it was okay that he doesn't wear one on the docks to get to the boat. Was told it was okay as he is too young. Was told it was okay to bring him in the store too. I take him in the store for not even 2 minutes. My son and I made our way to the ice cream and to check out without touching anything else. No one else was in the store. I get to check out and was asked where his mask was. Said he is too young to wear one. Was told well he can start learning then. Since when is it okay to put a mask on any child younger than 3? It's NOT! Store owner needs to learn some medical information before opening her mouth. Don't tell a nurse when her child should learn to wear a mask. Absolutely done with this campground and will always go to Lava Lakes as they understand when a child is too young and rather not have them suffocate. If we need anything else from a store we will GLADLY drive the 30 minutes to Lava Lakes store. We are in Phase 2 of opening back up and are at a campground. If you're too afraid to open back up, then don't. read more

The camp sites are good, clean, and close to the lake. If the rude red haired lady wasn't there I'd give it 5 stars. We stayed their 3-4 times per summer for about 3 years and have never had a pleasant experience with her. A couple times that we stayed there I requested spots close to the restroom due to small children and having a tent trailer (no bathroom). She put us as far away from the bathrooms that she could, another time I asked she told me "You'll go where I put you", again, as far away from the restroom as possible. The last 4 times I've been there we avoided the store except to check in. We stopped going to the resort all together. Lava Lake up the road has way better customer service and a better facility! read more

Ok I have a lot to say about this place. The only reason I gave it one star is because it wouldn't allow me to put NONE!! The lake is great and the fishing is good. The camp ground on the other hand is total dump. Showers don't work. Dry brush and dead trees everywhere. Here's the real reason you will never see me back there... The owner ,Pat, is a complete whack job. He actually tried to start a fight with us!! He's completely out of control and confrontational to the point that he will stand there trying to antagonize you into a fight! I've never seen anything like it in any service industry . After our little run in with this idiot, I came home and googled the resort and found that my story is not at all unique. Seems he is famous for freaking out on people. I saw him threaten to try to throw someone out of the camp ground for walking through about 10 ft of the woods as a short cut instead of using the road. He tried to start a physical fight with that guy right in from of the mans kids!!! In short, this guy is a Phyco and a power tripping idiot that has no business working with the public. It isn't worth spending your money here! There are so many excellent places to camp in central Oregon that you do not need to waste you time and money here. THINK AGAIN BEFORE CAMPING AT CRANE PRAIRIE RESORT!! This was my first time ever going to Crane Prairie and I was very excited until I got there. I am very much an avid camper (born and raised in Oregon) and I have camped at MANY campgrounds in this beautiful state and this is by far thee worst experience I have ever had. Thinking that I only had to pay $33 a night, I was quickly shown otherwise. With my family (wife, son, father in law, brother in law, and niece) awaiting me in the truck, I went inside their general store they have there to pay for the RV site that I had reserved on the phone. I was rudely approached by an older man who I assume to be either the owner or the main caretaker of this resort. The first thing he said was "you are the last ones here that had reservations (it was only 6:00 pm). He asked for the typical information that you would expect for checking into a place such as this. He asked how many dogs, I said two. Its ten bucks if you have 3, fine. Then he asked how many childeren I had and I said two. He then says that it is 7 dollars extra for each person over the four included per camp. I was like well they are kids, one is 5 and the other is a toddler and he very rudely said "well they are people too aren't they?" This really made me kind of mad but I just took it and it was $14 dollars on top of the $33 per night I was already paying, plus tax. I am just your average guy trying to have a good time with his family and these people try to nickel and dime you for everything you got. To put the icing on the cake, I handed this man my debit card and he said its $1 per transaction for debit/ credit cards. With that being said, I ended up paying $102.46 for two nights. This was only the beginning of the rudeness of the staff/ owners. We had the same older man barge into our camp with obnoxious behavior stating that our dogs were barking obsessively when there where several other dogs within the park barking as well. This man actually told my wife " if you don't get your dogs under control then you will have to be dismissed". This was at around 1:00 in the afternoon and they only barked because somebody walked by! The list goes on. If you want to launch your boat from their boat launch well that's 5 bucks. You wanna park the truck you just drove the boat with, well that's cost extra too. If you more your boat at their launch for five minutes to use the restroom, they yell at you and say that is an additional charge. If you want a map of the lake printed by a Xerox machine not even laminated well that's 50 cents. Seriously I am a straight shooter here and this place is a complete joke. This lake is nice but its a crying shame that one group of very rude, arrogant, and disrespectful individuals could give such a negative perception of this gem of the cascades. I can assure you, my family, my friends, my co workers, nor I with never ever ever stay at the Crane Prairie Resort unless they get friendlier staff and better management. read more

The location is fabulous...resort? Not so much. The owners, Pat and Jody Schatz are the most belligerent and unreasonable people I have ever dealt with. Their "cabins" are actually broken down old shacks with holes in the floors and walls, sticks holding up a piece of wood over the screen (window) and old infirmary beds. They are not only unsanitary, but dangerous! We made reservations over the phone (not knowing our family was actually at the Crane Prairie campground across the street) on Wednesday, for the following weekend. When we arrived, with two small children, and tried to cancel our reservations due to conditions, they screamed at me, my husband, and my parents and implied that they had informed me of their two week cancellation policy over the phone and I just "didn't listen". Then, they proceeded to kick us all out of their store and said we were no longer welcome on their property (for just trying to discuss the matter with them). BUT they still charged me for their services!! Not to mention that they charged my sister 5% for using her card outside at the pump, then another 1% for using her card inside the store (during the same visit)! These people are rude and they are ripping customers off hand over fist. It was an embarrassment that they had the nerve to compare themselves to Sun River! WHOA. AVOID this place like the plague. Save yourself the hassle and stay at the nice RV park next door. read more

Beware when making your reservations. They do not tell you what their cancellation policy is. If you cancel within 2 weeks of your arrival you forfeit your 2 night deposit. We made our reservation within 2 weeks of our arrival over the phone. We were not told about the 2 week cancellation policy. Just that if we didn't show up we would be charged. Due to a job offer, I called back the very next morning to cancel. I was told to call back the next day and speak with Jody as she was the only one who could cancel a reservation. She then informed me of the policy which I did not know about. She said it was on their website and their rate sheet --- I hadn't visited their website so I didn't know that. I then asked to speak with the man who took my reservation and he insisted he tells everyone about the policy. And then he proceeded to tell me it was my fault for not asking the question, that they cannot tell everyone what their policies are or they would be on the phone for too many minutes with each person. I told him this was extremely poor customer service to blame the customer and we would be disputing any credit card charges. read more
