Dry ziti with Alfredo sauce. Once again, Where's the sauce?
    Rona D.

I have been to Sunny John's many times but decided to order via Grubhub+ today. I was so happy that the order actually came early! The order was stuffed shells, veal parmagiana with spaghetti (extra sauce & extra cheese), ziti with alfredo sauce & garlic knots. My hubby loved the veal. It was saucy and hot. I had the stuffed shells. To say my stuffed shells were a disappointment is an understatement. Talk about overcooked, slightly burnt & DRY! I had this before many times & it's always been perfect. This wasn't even during peak business hours. This order was placed around 2:30 PM. The garlic knots were burnt in several places. Someone wasn't manning the oven or something. I could even understand if it was during school & they were busy serving kids slices & forgot. I don't think I will order anymore. In person has always been great. Also, my daughter's ziti with Alfredo doesn't look like it has much Alfredo sauce. She hasn't eaten it yet. We'll see what she thinks I Will probably have to eat something else later being I only ate 2 dry shells & peeled the burnt bottom & top off of 2 garlic knots & ate them. This order was pricey! I expected more from Sunny John's. Very disappointed. Will think twice about ordering again.

Ordered delivery with Slice. Expensive but good. Delivery on time and Courier very friendly plus a little funny. Ordered: *Grandma Square 4 slices with pepperoni *Lasagna with extra sauce Grandma Slice hit the spot and lasagna was very good. Wish the lasagna portion was bigger. Will definitely order again but pockets will have to be right.

Brand new store, reopened around New Year's across the street from the old location. Looks really nice inside, and the owner and staff are so friendly and really good people. My business partner can't have cheese and they made him his own 4 square grandma pizza w/o cheese and some really great sauce. The slices and choices are plentiful and the prices are great as is the food.

two slices of pizza on a paper plate

they are alway serving hot pizza slices when I tell them not to hot all the cheese n sauce dripping from the slice making a mess it's maybe because I'm a proud black person eating here not recommended

I always order for delivery here! I'm not sure what some of these bad reviews are about. Food is always on time and delicious. The delivery man has to be one of my favorite delivery men just because he treats you like a friend would. I believe most of the time he's the one who picks up the phone as well. He makes funny conversation with you and even has complimented my onesie I have came to the door with. (Haha). I had to give that man credit because he does a great job! If you are the type of person that loves a good grandma slice or a crispy slice period, this place is for you. They also make a delicious spaghetti and meatball platter. Their meatballs are really well seasoned and never disappoint. This is a clean and solid place. It is definitely one of those underrated pizza shops. I have never had a problem receiving the wrong order or them leaving anything out. The only thing is, if you want something with seafood like for example Penne alla Vodka with shrimp, I'd say pass. It's delicious but costly for seafood, as they charge for each shrimp. Otherwise inexpensive, reliable, and delicious.

Standard-Issue Nostalgia with a Side of Rushed Hospitality…read more If you enjoy paying in time rather than digital convenience, Lucali's reservation process is a masterclass in performative nostalgia. Arriving at 2 PM to stand in a line for two hours just to get on a list for a 7 PM seating doesn't make the place feel exclusive, it makes it feel like a punishment. But hey, we got a table, so the sacrifice was supposed to be worth it. It wasn't. Lucali is BYOB, which is fine in theory. My party brought two bottles of prosecco, fully prepared for a cozy, rustic evening. The server kindly offered to pop the first bottle, then brought out our glassware: heavy, standard water glasses, fresh out of the commercial dishwasher and literally piping hot. There is a special kind of absurdity in pouring crisp, ice-cold prosecco into a glass that feels like it was just pulled from the depths of hell. To top it off, nobody offered to keep our second bottle chilled. Minor detail, sure, but for a place with this level of cult status, the low-effort service immediately set the tone. To give credit where it's due, the ambiance is legitimately cool. It's dimly lit, atmospheric, and feels like step-back-in-time Brooklyn kitchen. Watching the pizza makers roll out dough using empty wine bottles before shoving them into the roaring brick oven gives off that warm, "Nonna's kitchen" charm. You want to love it. Then the food arrives, and the illusion shatters. Our server gave us the bare minimum rundown: "We have pizza, calzones, and tonight's special pasta." Zero detail, zero enthusiasm. We ordered the pizza and the calzone. The pizza was... fine. Completely fine. But calling this the best pizza in New York feels like collective mass delusion. If you've been to L'Industrie or Mama's Too, Lucali isn't even in the same stratosphere. Then came the calzone, which was allegedly stuffed with five cheeses. The server proudly named four, withholding the fifth as a "secret ingredient." A mystery cheese angle might be fun if the calzone blew your mind, but by the time I took a bite, the gimmick just felt tired. It was a perfectly average calzone wrapped in high-end gatekeeping. The grand finale, however, was the absolute kicker. Just under an hour into our meal, after overhearing the hostess realize she'd botched the table rotation, our server came over with an update: they had overbooked and needed our table. Her gracious solution? "You're welcome to pour the rest of your prosecco into your glasses and finish it outside!" The remaining, warm, prosecco that is... Let's recap the math: two hours waiting on a sidewalk at 2 PM, five hours of waiting for the reservation time, warm glasses for cold bubbles, middle-of-the-road pizza, and a boot out the door in under sixty minutes because they messed up their own seating chart. Disgraceful hospitality masked as old-school Brooklyn charm. If you love mediocre food, lukewarm prosecco in burning hot glassware, and being rushed out to the curb, Lucali is waiting for you. As for me, I won't be back.

I was greeted by an angel called Lisa, who was very much giving fairy Godmother of Luigi's pizza. I stumble through my order. I'm confused. I'm asking questions. The whole time Lisa is patient. She's sweet. She's funny. Makes me feel right at home. I asked for one slice of Knicks pizza but I wanted pepperoni on there. They said it didn't come with pepperoni, but the owner was sitting there like "you know what since you asked for it we'll do it for you." It's like I was heaven and was told Ask and you shall receive, we just want you to be happy! Now, I don't know what sort of crack cocaine they put in this Knicks pizza but it had vodka sauce and ricotta, hot honey olive oil and I think a pesto drizzle. Oh my Jesus Christ this was the best pizza I've ever had in my entire life. Savory, a lil sweet, saucy. Lisa was right, don't need ranch for this at all. Also loved the white pie. I'm so sad because I had to leave New York the next day but days later I am still thinking about this pizza. I am still thinking about sweet Lisa and just how warm and welcomed I was in the few minutes I spent in this restaurant. I'm still thinking about how delicious this slice was!!! I cannot recommend enough, 10 out of 10 you won't regret it. Tell Lisa the girl who asked for ranch and she responded "that's sacrilegious"sent you. I told Lisa I'd leave a good review and she said "we don't care about no reviews we care about getting you fed". Enough said!

I went in with extremely high expectations after seeing Barstool give it a 9.3, which is an incredibly high score. In my opinion, Dave Portnoy has a particular style of pizza that he prefers, and that definitely influences his ratings. Personally, I would not rate this pizza anywhere near a 9.3, especially considering how many great pizza options there are in Brooklyn. That being said, it is still a good slice and worth trying. I just don't think it quite lives up to the hype or the exceptionally high rating it has received.

Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing. We ordered a glass of wine, a beer, an arugula salad, and our main food order. Everything started out fine, and the salad came without a problem. But then we waited. And waited. About 30 minutes after we had ordered, I asked our waiter where our food was. He apologized and admitted that he had forgotten to put the order in. By that point, we had already watched other tables receive their food, including people who had arrived well after us. We continued waiting, and after roughly 40 minutes or more, our food still had not arrived. At that point, the dining experience was already ruined and we decided to leave. Ironically, just as we were getting ready to go, the food finally started coming out. I told them we no longer wanted it. The waiter did apologize again and offered us a pizza to take with us, which I assume was complimentary, but by then we were simply ready to leave. Even paying the bill became unnecessarily drawn out. We were charged the full amount for the salad, beer, and wine. I sat with a $50 bill ready to pay, was handed the check, and then ended up standing around for another five minutes waiting for someone to actually take the money. There was no apology from the person handling the payment. I understand that mistakes happen, and I appreciated that our waiter admitted he had forgotten to place the order. But when a restaurant makes that kind of mistake, the recovery matters. After waiting that long, watching later-arriving customers get served, and then having difficulty simply paying and leaving, an apology and a pizza at the very end didn't really fix the experience. Unfortunately, based on this visit, I can't say the service lived up to the restaurant's reputation.

The dining area still has that wonderfully idiosyncratic character: exposed beams, communal tables, mismatched details, and an open kitchen turning out genuinely excellent pizza. What impresses me most is how naturally Roberta's became more than a restaurant. Food, music, parties, outdoor spaces, and an extraordinary mix of people all seemed to converge here, giving the place a cultural gravity that could never have been designed by committee. It remains one of those places that instantly takes me back to my bachelor years and an especially fun chapter of my time in the city, when Bushwick felt endlessly creative, and Roberta's seemed to sit comfortably at its center.
