DELICIOUS DIM SUM! 11/10, super fun place to come with friends. Food is fast, service is good. Large variety of high quality Chinese dishes- would come back any day and recommend to my friends who want Chinese food. Keep in mind though this restaurant is usually PACKED because it's so good! read more

Dim Sum is very adequate. Take out Chinese, Polynesian style, not so good! Boneless spareribs dry and too salty. Egg rolls bitter after taste. I despise Jasmine rice, used in the fried rice, so that's on me I guess. Chicken fingers not good. read more

This has been my go to Chinese restaurant ever since I was little. The quality has definitely stayed consistent and if not it has been progressively improving. Very fast service and quality food! This is my first time trying fried flounder because it was a special occasion. It is definitely a delicacy food and it was super delicious! They cut up the belly and steamed in so the meat is smooth and silky, and they topped with Chinese brocolli in white garlic sauce. With the rest of the fish they fried it so you get a nice contrast of silky fish meat and fried fish skin. Overall, this is the best Chinese restaurant in Malden. Everybody knows this is the og spot to go to! read more

Food is great overall and is a no frills type of place. The whole experience is more on the 3.5/5 since I found some dishes were a miss. The Shanghai dumplings- terrible and it was the most expensive thing we ordered. The skin was thick and dry with little to no juice inside of the dumpling. The other dishes were good but it isn't super intuitive to order and get seated. It was a bit difficult to get someone to seat us and to get us started on our meal. Since this place is on the smaller side, I don't think it would be able to accommodate a really large group. read more

We were in the area and wanted to change things up and check out sun Kong's dim sum. Overall it was a solid and good spot for dim sum. It's not a huge place, but it has no issues seating big parties. Service is your typical Chinese waitstaff and you order on a paper slip. They do provide a menu with pictures. Everything we ordered was good. The beef balls were nice and smooth. The shrimp rice rolls had the right thin silky texture. The shrimp and chive dumpling was wifeys favorite because it had a very strong chive flavor. The chicken feet were solid but I'd probably get something else next time. read more

Overall: one of the best dim sum places in the Boston area this place has it all. Only reason it's not 5 stars is because the service was stereotypically bad. Ambience/Decor/Service: i put this first because of the few issues. 1) no one at the front to collect names as all the Asian aunties/uncles cut each other to be "first" 2) no designated waiter/waitress so when we put an extra order in it got lost in all the translation 3) the design of the place maximizes large tables/ groups (8+) and leaves the rest of the 4 and below groups like ourselves waiting incredibly long. Food: when it comes to the staples this place rocks them all. Authentic (compared to the best of LA) Siu Mai, Har Gow, Chicken Feet, and egg yolk bun emphasize the taste and texture over the looks. The lesser know staples like radish/turnip cakes, pork spare ribs were a little more to be desired. Nonetheless very homely feel. read more

This is the place to go for Dim Sum in Malden. The food is great and the prices are very reasonable. I only wish there was more parking options, lol. read more

We went for dim sum on a Sunday. You have to go in and check in with the "hostess" and she will give you a ticket with a number on it. We didn't wait very long at all. They don't do the carts anymore, you just order a la carte from a paper menu. The menu is in Chinese and English, and if you are unsure what anything is, they also have a menu with photos. I prefer this place to the other dim sum place down the street in Malden. We are a small family and I liked that there were different sized tables so that we weren't forced to sit next to strangers. read more

Sun Kong is good for dim sum, and I don't have to go into the city for it anymore. It used to have push carts but everything is ordered on a paper now, during Covid. It's always fast and food is good. There is parking, on both sides of the building and very limited street parking in the front, but it can get busy on the weekends for dim sum where you may not be lucky enough to park there. If it's busy for dim sum, you need to take a number and wait to be called. read more

We frequent this restaurant for dim sum. Some dishes are great and some are sub par but it certainly scratches the itch for a dim sum craving. The waitstaff is nice, I feel most reviews are negative due to a language barrier but it's not an accurate reflection of the service. The restaurant itself is very large with lots of tables but still expect a wait. read more

Really enjoyed the food here. Parking is available on both sides of the building and if you don't get here early, it will be hard to find a spot. Looking at other reviews and ask the talk about cleanliness, I was very worried about finding bug remains in my food. But thankfully, I did not find any. Because I was thinking that the entire time, it really decreased how much I got to enjoy this place by constantly worrying about creepy critters. I truly hope they build their reputation backup. read more

Busy place for the Saturday evening after Chinese New Year. However, the food and service were great without compromised.

Really appreciated getting good dim sum locally. Classic Chinese food and vibe. Will definitely be back.

Great for dim sum, just okay for dinner. Old school Cantonese taishan staff. Could be cleaner but not bad, just don't sit in the corner. Definitely recommend the salted yolk/lava buns. read more

The foods are really average. The texture of the beef balls are really fluffy. The taste is ok. All other dim sums are about the same as other dim sum restaurants. The service is really not that great. I originally placed my order for takeout thinking that there would be a long wait. However the waiter told me to have a seat and eat at the restaurant. I agreed with him. We sat down and waited for at least another five minutes without any waitress serving us. The ambience is ok. We sat near the exit door. We were able to get a seat as I was waiting for my takeout. read more

The dim sum was not fresh and tasted like leftovers. The prices are not cheap, and they do not provide itemized receipts when calculating your total. This practice makes it difficult to know if you are being overcharged or if there are miscalculations. The manager stood in front of our table, and the waiters walked by without acknowledging our need for water refill. They seemed to ignore us completely. We visited this restaurant based on online recommendations, but our experience was very disappointing. Do not go there! read more

Dim sum is probably one of the most authentic Chinese cuisines Massachusetts has to offer. Sun Kong is in the top list of dim sum restaurants. I remembered they used to have the small food carts that stacked with dim sum to go around tables for customers to pick before covid. This is even rarely seen in Canton, except in old dim sum restaurants. Those carts simply used to deliver foods nows, what a pity. But glad that foods still taste the same! I highly recommend chicken feet with black bean sauce. It was fried before steamed so it's chewy and soft. read more

I probably come here few times a month for dimsum. It's great and they have a parking lot on both sides of the restaurant and also street parking. If you come on weekends, arrive before 10/11am, or there's a line. The wait it not long, but it gets me anxious and hangry. But if you like, their takeout is just as good! It's a bit of a wait but you can eat at the comfort of your home too. Dishes range between $3-5 each. Best Chinese tapas. Few items I always get: (Cantonese translation) - shrimp rice noodles (Ha cheurng) - pork dumplings (siu mai) - salted egg yolk custard buns (lao xia bo lo bao) - shrimp dumplings (Ha gao) Some items that are slightly unique: - taro dumplings - fish dumplings - fried shrimp bean curd roll - spare ribs Also sip as many pots of tea as you like! Have the full dimsum experience with the carts being pushed around. read more

Been going to this dim sum place with fam for years. This place is just like a comfort place if you want quick dim sum. Everything tasted decent, however, the chicken feet in my opinion is too salty. Other than that, everything else tasted like any standard dim-sum restaurants. read more

We came Saturday at 12:30 pm for dimsum as a group of 5 and were surprised to be seated immediately. Service was a bit brusque, but efficient. They gave us the a sheet menu to mark down our order and a picture menu version with a subset. The sheet menu v classic carts provides the trade off of having your desired dishes freshly prepared (great for dumplings) v being able to pick and choose your dishes throughout the meal. We had the shrimp dumplings, shumai, egg yolk buns, vegetable rice rolls, fried dough rice rolls, taro dumplings, soft tofu, pork dumplings, sesame balls, lotus leaf chicken and ended up ordering way too much (we left with 6+ small boxes), so I would recommend the strategy of ordering less and adding to your order later. The shumai was so soft and juicy and, in general, I liked all of the dumplings. As a reminder, dimsum is not a great place to take your vegetarian friends (from our dishes, they were only able to have the dessert items and rice rolls) and most pescatarian dishes use shrimp (for those who are allergic to shrimp). read more

People somehow raved about this dim sum place in malden but I see nothing to be excited about . Drives was slow and staffs standing around talking not paying attention to the customer's needs . We were visiting our son at Malden so we had take out from this restaurant. We ended up throwing away most of the food. They mixed a lot of cans vegetables without using better quality and fresh food. You can get better food from any dollar scoop restaurant, instead that we paid almost $80 for 3 dishes. I recommend to go to Ming's which is not far from this one. read more

This place felt authentic. It was hectic, busy, a bit messy/unorganized but in the best ways. The food was well priced and had all the flavors. Not the best dim sum I've ever had, but it's the best I've had in the Boston area. A bonus is that there is a ton of street parking around. This place STAYS busy, and there's a very good reason for that. I will be back read more

Sun Kong - Steamed buns, chicken feet, egg tarts, rice noodles with shrimp - Dim Sum Near Me - Malden, Massachusetts

Sun Kong is an authentic Chinese food restaurant providing decent portions at fair prices. The food itself is pretty average and is comparable to Ming's right around the corner. There is plenty of parking on both sides of the building and on the street, however, it can get pretty busy on the weekends for dim sum. Service tends to be quite slow and inattentive, even on quiet days, but the food always comes out nice and hot. I like that there are TVs in the dining area for some entertainment during casual dinners. read more

We have high expectation from the review but very disappointed after we tried it. The egg plant dish came with cans vegetables with only a couple pieces of egg plant. Tofus are chewy，sizzling black pepper steak tasted like jerky!!! The dishes lacked freshness and flavor, and unfortunately, they did not reflect the authentic taste of traditional Chinese cuisine. I won't recommend this restaurant especially if you have pay for high price. read more

We came to Sun Kong for dinner and got a bunch of dishes to share family style. The Mayo shrimp was delicious and the walnuts were a nice addition. The shrimp was plump and the sweet sauce was very nice. The chicken wings were very crispy and this dish came in a very large portion. It had nice seasoning on it as well. The scallop fried rice was a very classic dish. The flavors were mild but perfect for pairing with out other dishes. The beef Lo Mein was definitely a favorite. Unlike many other places, the noodles were not as oily but still retained a great texture and delicious flavor. We got the clam dish with vermicelli noodles. This dish was also very tasty but the noodles did clump up a bit. Overall, Sun Kong is a great place to have some delicious Chinese food and we will definitely be back for more! read more

It's been a few years since we last ate at Sun Kong for Din Sun and we decided that 2 years was enough time to go with fresh and open minds. I think the last time we went I would have given them 3 stars but our experience shows that they have improved and we gave them 4 stars this time - was there a change in chefs over this time? We ordered Crispy Egg Custard, Shoo Mai, Shrimp Dumpling, RoSt Pork Rice Roll, Fried Crab Claw and Malaysian Style Sponge Cake. All of it was served fresh and hot! Honestly, the only bad part of Dim Sun was trying to get parking. read more

I really wanted to like Sun Kong as it was a childhood favorite of a friend we were visiting in Malden, but after trying a multitude of dishes they had to offer, I can safely say they are only average at best. We came during Memorial Weekend and the place was bustling, luckily the wait was not too bad and we were promptly seated after 20 minutes. Sun Kong serves dim sum in the traditional cart style which, while authentic, can cause some of the non-steamed dishes to be cold by the time they arrive at your table. This sadly was the case for most of the dishes which is one of the reasons I am docking points. In addition, most of the classic dishes were rather lacking. Their shrimp rice roll had small, anemic shrimp, very different than my current dim sum champion Golden Palace near Uncasville. To make matters worse, their filling for the har gow was undercooked, leading to a powdery mouth feel - likely a by product of a cornstarch mixture used to bind the filling. You can tell a lot about a dim sum place based off the trifecta of: shu mai, rice roll, and har gow and their takes on these dishes spoke volumes. I will give a shoutout to their stellar green durian baked roll though, everything about that was perfect and left me with a better taste in my mouth by the end of the meal! All in all, I am still glad we came here as it's always fun to go to your friend's childhood favorite spots - dim sum is also about the socialization and you can do just that here! read more

Solid dim sum place with consistently tasty food. I've been here a few times with my family, and we love the food here. This is a pre-COVID review. Sun Kong is our favorite dim sum place! We actually think it's way better than the dim sum places in Chinatown. There are plenty of carts with fresh food, and everything is prepared really well. They are very generous with their shrimp; seriously the shrimp dumplings with snow peas are absolutely stuffed. I'm also a big fan of their desserts, especially their custard buns, which are the freshest and best-baked custard buns I've ever had! Prices are reasonable and on par with other dim sum restaurants. The only downside to this place is a lack of parking. We usually walk here, but if you drive and can't find a parking spot, you may have to park on a residential street a few blocks away. We really miss the dim sum experience, and this will be one of the first places we visit when things are back to normal in the future. read more
