My husband and I visited this place for lunch. He ordered a combination of pork fried rice, pork spare ribs, chicken fingers, and beef teriyaki. He found the pork fried rice very hard. I opted for the salt and pepper calamari and a side of white rice. The calamari was decent, but it lacked a lot of flavor. I didn't taste any salt, although it did come with green and red peppers, fried onion/shallot. These were quite different from what I'm used to. We also ordered crab rangoon, which was flavorful and had a sweet cream cheese filling. The server was not attentive. He didn't check on us to see if we needed anything. The restaurant is small but clean. However, for the price and portions, I wouldn't recommend it. read more

Located a half mile off Rt 1 in Saugus (on the Melrose border). They have a solid mix of asian cuisine, Chinese Thai, Japanese. There's a Chinese food place closer, so previously I've only ever ordered the dumplings. I saw they had a bento box, so ordered that, and was pleasantly surprised. Heaping portion of white rice, soup & salad on the side. Smaller portions of the highlights (teriyaki, maki, gyoza), but a good value for a combo meal. read more

My first visit here it was small but clean. The menu carried many different food options. I was craving dim sum but I ended up getting other items too. The prices are pretty pricy to what I'm used to in regards to some dim sum items and sushi rolls. They do have combo items at lunch prices and it was a good amount for the price. Very mixed reviews. To start the food is a bit expensive for dumplings but given there are not many homemade dumpling places local there isn't much competition. Sushi: the sushi was mixed. One time had shrimp that went bad. It smelt terrible. So I threw it away. The Avocado and Kani Salad was good but needed a little texture. Would like to have either roe or a bit of tempura crunch in it. (I would order again and ask for a little change) The dumplings were good. Both were moist with good flavor. The pork and leak dumplings have a thick wrapper keeping all Fo the juice inside. I would be willing to try the place again but the sushi really turned me off. read more

We were driving from Square One mall and noticed it was only 3 minutes away. From the hand-out menu, we ordered the D1 which turned out to be the xiao lung baos with the soup-filled dumplings, the Cantonese style shui mais, the Shanghai fried dumplings and the Beijing noodles for the 2 of us. Each of the dumpling dishes had 6 items each and were good size and were tasty with no hint of MSG. The Beijing noodles had a savory minced pork with gravy sauce that was prepared nicely with their soft but chewy noodles. This is one of few places that offers this item. We end up taking the leftover noodles home along with the Shanghai dumplings. Service was also excellent with a tea refill. Location was easy to find with available parking spaces shared among a few businesses. read more

Good enough sushi - I ordered a variety, but one of the tuna rolls was quite loose and had panko sprinkled over the top. Can't say I've had it like that before and didn't like it. Rainbow roll and fried crab were enjoyable. We ordered a bunch of things to try - general gao's chicken, mixed vegetables, fried rice, spring roll, egg drop soup, pork soup dumplings, chicken dumplings, crab rangoons, shangai dumplings, beef and cabbage dumplings, and taro sticky buns. It was so, so disappointing. We liked the soup and chicken dumplings, but the rest was quite literally flavorless and not fit for human consumption. We have been excited to try this place, so this was really a shame. We were also disappointed with the delivery service. After deliberately selecting the 'deliver later' option on their website, the food came way too early, and the delivery driver did not respect the no contact delivery we had requested. He was also rude and called me on the phone to get me to come to the door, because he wanted a cash tip as well as the one I left on the website (in addition to the delivery fee + convenience fee). Don't really understand the rave reviews. Perhaps my expectations of Chinese food are different than the local populace, but I felt like all my dishes had major flaws. The cashier did tell me they were under new ownership, so perhaps it's that. The shumai was fried instead of steamed, and still not crispy. The xiao long bao had very thick skin and no soup to be found! The veggie chow mein I ordered didn't seem to contain a single noodle?? Instead of noodles I received stir fried veggies, which to their credit did actually have flavor, which is more than I could say for the shumai or xiao long bao. read more

I'm not sure how every year they get slightly worse, but it's been consistent now for two years. The last two things we liked were the egg drop soup and dumplings, and this last time we got takeout the dumplings didn't taste as good. They weren't even the same color as before, so the recipe has obviously changed. At this point the only thing to go back for is the egg drop soup and if you don't like salty things, you'll have to avoid that as well. read more

First time order review. I was craving peppery fried pork chops from Green Tea. Unfortunately for me, they were only offering a limited menu during covid which excluded this specific item. Very depressing as this is my favorite dish from them.. Any-who, thanks to google and yelp, I was able to find alternative establishments. I must say, I can actually make a comparable homemade dish, but this was much more convenient lol... Do note, I placed this order via UberEats. My order arrived promptly as stated on the app, with an estimate arrival time of 45 mins. The gentleman that came followed my delivery instructions to a T. I probably could've received it quicker if I picked up myself.. I did request extra spicy, a personal preference. I kid you not, take it from someone who's been adding squirts of scotch bonnet or carolina reaper sauce on everything.. the heat was there. I suggest you just don't eat the peppers and you should be okay lol. I may have to order this again without extra spice just to compare the difference. The pork itself had a nice crispy fried texture, salted just enough. Overall it was good. However, it just couldn't measure up to Green Tea. I may have been disappointed that it was all boneless pork used and not actual bone in pork chops as I was anticipating... I also opted to try their clams with ginger and scallions. Not bad at all. Wry authentic dumplings in downtown Lowell! I tried the pork,shrimp and chive potstickers and definitely will be back to try other combinations! Their chicken dumplings used to be really substantial and delicious, but now they're shrimpy little gyoza. The soup dumplings, which also were big, are much smaller too. Took a chance and went in ordered for me and my daughter. Chinese food never seems fresh to me but was craving it. The lo mein was probably the best I ever had. Loved the poo poo platter for one! You got to try everything without spending an arm and a leg like you do at Kowloon and Kowloon never tastes fresh like this place does! We ordered our standard Shanghai dumplings, garlic fried rice, and mixed vegetables with garlic. The dumplings were OK, but the dumpling sauce now just seems to be straight-up soy sauce. The garlic fried rice was totally different, and not very garlicky. The sauce on the mixed vegetables was thin and clear like water, with only a salty taste. Hopefully this is temporary? read more

I was very disappointed when Hoya closed (the restaurant that was in this location prior). It was my go to spot for Chinese food in the Saugus area, and I could only hope that Dumpling Garden would be close to as good. And honestly, after two trips to Dumpling Garden now, I can say that it's even better! First, the mini juicy bun with pork. I fell in love with these upon first bite, and I will probably order them every single time I get takeout here. Full of flavor and bursting with that delicate broth. I do want to try some of their other dumplings, but these are just too good to not order. The pu-pu platters are solid. Most every component in them is done right, just wish the ratio of some of the contents was different. For example, don't need 4 spring rolls in a a pu-pu platter for two, but I can definitely use more than 4 chicken fingers. Unlike most spots, they give you both beef and chicken teriyaki which is a nice touch Fried rice is great, doesn't feel too greasy, and actually feels fresh instead of feeling like it's been sitting around all day. I've heard great things about their General Gao's chicken as well, and will probably try that next time. read more
