    Spicy tuna hand rolls

I am so happy I decided to go to Fumi. Street parking was easy, even with the mounds of snow. The spicy tuna hand rolls were packed with tuna and other goodness. Worth a return trip to explore the menu. Thanks for the spring roll, it was yummy.

What a great first experience I had at Fumi! I am so glad to have them to the community of Melrose. I called to have take out and the lady on the phone was kind and the wait was short (Friday/ lunch). There is plenty of street parking, came in and was greeted. Paid for my meal and waited a bit to get it (less than 5 minutes). It was very cute in there, more of a take out restaurant but did have a table there if you wanted to eat in. You can tell how hard working the owners and workers were; very friendly, taking lots of phone orders and buzzing around. I got my food and was sent out with a cup of ice-cream as a sorry for a 3 min wait! Did not have to do that but really really sweet (and delicious). I got home and was in awe about how much delicious food was in the bento box, all for $15. Incredible deal. I had the chicken hibachi and it was a great size and cooked perfectly! So excited to have a new go to restaurant in town.

Review for take out as the restaurant has one table. Fumi was opened three days ago, replacing Number One Taste. The service was quick, two rolls for $11.95 plus tax and bonus for side of salad and small miso soup. Conveniently located near Melrose Highlands commuter rail stop and 131 bus stop. Street parking is plentiful or you can park near the commuter rail stop. Walking is within 2 mins. The restaurant is clean and staff is super polite. I preferred more vinegar on sushi rice but overall, the rolls were neatly rolled and salmon tasted fresh. You can pay more to substitute with brown rice and even black rice, wow! I would go back.

Hey it's the $2.99 Trader Joe's microwave fried rice? This was awful

Service was awesome, got our drinks right away. Appetizers of miso soup and edamame were really perfect. The sushi was fresh and very tasty. All and all a lovely place for dinner. The Medford/Boston area seemed to all have limited parking so we were looking for a dinner option that didn't require us to drive since we were sick of circling around. Matsuba Izakaya was just a 5 minute walk away from the hotel so we we braved the cold for some delicious food. When we arrived at the restaurant we were escorted toward the back of the restaurant which was very warm and inviting. I ordered the mini omakase for $55 and was super impressed with the presentation and variety of seafood. I was presented a box of 9 different seafood offerings: uni, toro, salmon belly, fish liver, raw shrimp & fried shrimp head tempura, scallops. yellowtail, and squid. The uni and toro were fantastic, and I enjoyed everything else except for the salmon belly. For some reason the salmon belly wasn't ultra creamy - maybe it wasn't thawed enough, which is a shame because I love salmon sashimi. Nevertheless, for the presentation and price I was really impressed with the variety. It also came with a miso soup which really warmed me up quickly.

All fine in their own right, but not exactly the environment you think of when selecting a sushi restaurant. Then, just to enter, you need to find the entrance behind a support column and take an elevator up to the second floor. So right off the bat it's a bit strange. That being said, once we were seated for AYCE, everything was superb. The server would bring us a new order card immediately after we ordered each round of food and checked back often ensuring we never had to wait very long for the next round of food to come out. The entire menu was available...sushi, sashimi, rolls (including the special rolls), apps, soups, salads, and hibachi. The sushi wasn't elite, but absolutely fresh and tasty. And the wine is very reasonably priced. There is also a hibachi area of the restaurant that we didn't visit, but we could hear it. It was loud and full of families and it sounded like the chefs were putting on a good show and everyone was enjoying themselves.

It seemed like they were having a great time. I entered optimist and excited for the experience. However, our seating server didn't seem very friendly about seating us. Once seated we waited about 30 minutes for others (2 people) to be seated and our orders to be taken. Prior to this we were served our drinks and soup and salad. We received no water until we asked for some. However, the party next to us received water drinks and soup and salad promptly. We found this very interesting. Our chef ‍ is what saved this review from being a one. Our chef was great! Very engaging and attentive. Our server however never returned. Our chef removed our soup and salad bowls, which were then removed by the other parties server. Our food was good, and very filling. We had enough for leftovers. Our visit took an additional left turn when we received the bill. Our total was as expected, until we saw an additional 15% added to the bill by hand. We inquired what the fee was for. We were told it was because the bill was over $100 dollars, and was a tip for the chef. We asked to see this written on the menu. It could not be shown and was removed from our bill. We tipped our chef in cash, and left a small tip for the server. Our chef was the only person that thanked us for coming and wished us a good night. Upon leaving, I almost slipped down, due to the front entry floors being oily, which caused my canes to slip often. My party assisted me, to make sure I didn't fall. Unfortunately, I don't see a return visit, which is sad as it is close to my friend's home.

Kowloon is perhaps the most famous parcel and relic of the so-called "Old New England Orient," something from the bygone years of French Indochina and the bloody colonies and before the massacre at Tiananmen Square changed the world as we knew it. It is said that Kowloon was designed to give the humble locals a taste of The Exotic, to flush their mouths with juices laden with new and exciting flavors. Here visitors bear witness to the strength of a groundbreaking architectural masterpiece: Kowloon is a palace that, in the words of Mark Twain, is "kin to Machu Picchu and the Taj Mahal." And yet unlike today's Taj Mahal, the innards of this architectural masterpiece house nearly every type of legal excess: food, alcohol, and gambling. It has been asked not twice but thrice: why would I go to the Great Wall of China when I could go to Kowloon? On my inaugural visit to Kowloon I only partook of the first legal excess. A large plate of tangerine chicken accompanied by something with a name along the lines of "triple delight." The chicken was well-starched and sweetened and moist like the lips of a baby lamb. It was the most unhealthy thing I consumed all week. Triple delight (or whatever it was called) was good but delight may be a stretch for anyone who does not consider salt to be this earth's greatest delight. The hostess is a businesswoman.
