This is a newer take out place near the train station on Franklin. It's across town from me, but on a Sunday evening the ride is quick and there was plenty of street parking. I ordered the Hibachi Steak Bento dinner and was really surprised by how much food you get. In addition to the bento box there was a mushroom soup, salad, and egg roll. The soup was an unexpected favorite & perfect temperature. The salad was basic - lettuce, tomatoes and shaved carrots. The box itself was fresh and delicious. A bonus was that there was enough to have for lunch the next day. I'll definitely be back! read more

A little local takeout spot in the highlands mixing sushi, with hibachi and a very small selection of Chinese dishes. The lunch specials are reasonably priced for how much food you get. The sushi was to be expected given the price point. It was good but not amazing, and did the trick and was satiating. The eel sauce didn't taste great but the other rolls and sushi were fine. They even gave us a couple small cups of mochi ice cream which was so nice of them! This is a takeout only spot, there was only one small table in the dining area. read more

Nice staff, sushi was prepared quickly. It is a takeout restaurant located on Franklin St in Melrose. There are a handful of parking spots out front but they were all taken when I picked up my order so I had to park on a nearby side street. The sushi is fine for what it is, it is cheap takeout sushi with various lunch specials which include either chefs choice of nigiri, sashimi and California roll or pick your own rolls. It is better than some other cheap sushi restaurants, but don't come in search of Best of Boston sushi. The lunch special also includes a salad which was primarily iceberg lettuce. I wasn't a huge fan of the dressing and went without it, I wasn't sure what flavor it was going for, but it sort of tasted like sweet mayo. There was also an included miso soup which seemed fine. They also serve hibachi and Chinese food which I didn't try. read more

I am so happy I decided to go to Fumi. Street parking was easy, even with the mounds of snow. The spicy tuna hand rolls were packed with tuna and other goodness. Worth a return trip to explore the menu. Thanks for the spring roll, it was yummy. read more

What a great first experience I had at Fumi! I am so glad to have them to the community of Melrose. I called to have take out and the lady on the phone was kind and the wait was short (Friday/ lunch). There is plenty of street parking, came in and was greeted. Paid for my meal and waited a bit to get it (less than 5 minutes). It was very cute in there, more of a take out restaurant but did have a table there if you wanted to eat in. You can tell how hard working the owners and workers were; very friendly, taking lots of phone orders and buzzing around. I got my food and was sent out with a cup of ice-cream as a sorry for a 3 min wait! Did not have to do that but really really sweet (and delicious). I got home and was in awe about how much delicious food was in the bento box, all for $15. Incredible deal. I had the chicken hibachi and it was a great size and cooked perfectly! So excited to have a new go to restaurant in town. read more

Review for take out as the restaurant has one table. Fumi was opened three days ago, replacing Number One Taste. The service was quick, two rolls for $11.95 plus tax and bonus for side of salad and small miso soup. Conveniently located near Melrose Highlands commuter rail stop and 131 bus stop. Street parking is plentiful or you can park near the commuter rail stop. Walking is within 2 mins. The restaurant is clean and staff is super polite. I preferred more vinegar on sushi rice but overall, the rolls were neatly rolled and salmon tasted fresh. You can pay more to substitute with brown rice and even black rice, wow! This was probably the worst takeout I've gotten in years. I was all excited about a "hibachi" style takeout option being available now, but it was astonishingly bad. Both the chicken and steak meals, as well as our lo mein and fried rice, were entirely flavorless. There's bland, and then there's "they boiled the raw flavor out and it's somehow worse than when it started" tasteless. For a cooking style that is supposed to be hot and dry flat top griddled, I have no idea why our meals can soaking in some kind of broth, but it was atrocious. The lo mein also suffered from a total lack of flavor while somehow being insanely greasy. They were covered in some kind of gross oil that didn't even add meaningful flavor. My sushi roll was okay--but no better than sushi place downtown behind Shaws, which is where I'll be going back to. The mushroom soup was surprisingly all right, but I think that may have just been in comparison to everything else. We're throwing almost all of it out. I truly do not know what the other reviewers are talking about; it makes me seriously suspect people are being paid to post fake reviews. There is only one table for sitting and most of the food is for Togo but if you get a chance to sit and eat, the owners are amazing and the service is on point! Sushi tasted fresh and I would not be unhappy coming back. Edame was pretty good. However, there was nothing special to the sushi. My current favorite other sushi restaurants are better. The edamame had good salt but wasn't as crisp as better versions. The options of special Maki rolls also weren't to my preference - there weren't a whole lot I was interested in. nice addition to melrose, we have a nice little downtown which is really close to my house, this place is a short drive but we were really pleased. It's nice to have a sort of pan asian take out place in town. i wanted some chinese and some katsu and my wife and kids wanted sushi, both were available, order was done quickly, they realized after I left that they missed an item and called right away. (it turns out they accidentally put a delicious extra chicken and vegetable dish that now I have to order and must have miscounted the food). Prices were reasonable, the Katsu came with rice, small salad and small soup so it's an entire meal. Family was happy. Definitely be back read more

Amazing miso soup, very well flavored, and the sushi roll was really delicious as well. I definitely will be coming back. It's mostly a take-out place though it does have one small table for two people. The staff is very friendly and the place is clean. Can't wait to try other items on the menu. read more
