A Great Old-School Chinese Food Find I've lived near Red Rose Chinese Food for as long as it's been open, but somehow I had never tried it. Honestly, I wish I had sooner! I was looking for two things that have become surprisingly hard to find these days: Peking ravioli and moo shu pork--the old-school American Chinese food I remember. I've tried moo shu elsewhere where they served it with Mexican tortillas, which completely changes the dish, and I've had "Peking ravioli" that was basically just dumplings. I'm happy to say Red Rose gets both of these right! The Peking ravioli and moo shu were exactly what I was hoping for--traditional, old-school American Chinese food the way I remember it. We also ordered the boneless spare ribs, and everything was delicious. This is really more of a takeout spot than a sit-down restaurant, but that's exactly what we were looking for. We picked up our order, and it was ready quickly and packed really well. My only complaint: the large moo shu order was $17.95 and came with only 4 pancakes, even though the menu says 5. I definitely expected more than four for a large order. Overall, though, I was really pleased. It's great to find a place that still does these classic dishes the traditional American Chinese Food way. I'll definitely be back when I'm looking for these items... next to try is their egg foo young. Those are really the only dishes I get at no -traditional Chinese restaurants. read more

Ordered delivery through uber eats the other night. I got our usual general gau's chicken and was pleasantly surprised. The chicken was very meaty, as opposed to being all batter. The flavor was on point. Serving size is smaller than compared to where we usually get our take out. I wasn't the biggest fan of the crab Rangoons as the filling was more sour than sweet and creamy. We also got the eggplant in lobster sauce, which was my boyfriends favorite. Their pork fried rice was was good. It didn't come over overly brown and oily like other places. read more

I ordered delivery, food was hot and flavorful. I got the tofu veggie stir fry and my husband got the sesame chicken. Food came hot. I'm very very pleased with what we got. Quick, hot, reliable. 10/10 I would order from here a million times. read more

They have lots of gluten free options, and everything is dairy free. No frills, quick service - overall, would recommend

I am a local in this town and Red Rose is an average Chinese restaurant. Nothing to call home about but it is a staple. On weekends they are open late which I think is great for Melrose! I usually stick with just Chicken Fried Rice and it's good. No veggies but good flavor, it is a little expensive but it works. Last time I went in the restaraunt, there was a dangerous customer causing a scene. I did not feel safe, and honestly the staff looked scared too. This is NOT their fault but makes me want to only go during the day time now. The restaraunt is small and has one table, they rely mostly on take out orders. Easy to order on the phone. read more

The food is mostly good but the sweet and sour chicken is not what it's advertised as. They give you chicken fingers and a tiny container of sweet and sour sauce and when you ask for extra sauce they don't provide it. I'm not going to order from them anymore because they don't provide what they advertise. read more

Always extremely fast and their delivery guy is great! Food is consistent with go-to favs. This is a pick up only place. There's a table or two inside for waiting on orders but ambience is 90% kitchen. read more

Food was prepared well quick service. It was delivered to me at the time they said it would be in the food was very good and within arrived because it had to deliver. It was still very hot, but they just made it. read more

Convenient. Delivery. The food is good- not great. The sauce isn't runny. Flavor is there. We're order here regularly.

Second time I came here. I find it impressive that this is the only Chinese restaurant in the heart of Melrose off Main Street. This little spot is just for to go and not for dining in. The food itself is American Chinese standard taste, standard portions, and a high price given that it's Melrose. However, if you are in need of some good old fashioned greasy food and want your sugary tongue to be satisfied by enjoying the taste China-Merican food, look no further. This little spot houses some of the finest orange chicken and sweet and sour soup this side of the Mississippi Melrose main street that you can only find in just about any Chinese fast food-ish restaurant. I ordered the orange chicken, chicken and broccoli, and chicken fried rice. I placed the order online and picked it up 20 minutes later. When I picked it up it was ready and the employee was friendly. All of the dishes were okay but I feel like they lacked flavor and were too bland. I didn't like the taste of the broccoli at all. It's an okay place but I won't be ordering again. read more

so I have enjoyed finding what i thought was a good Chinese restaurant nearby... Red Rose in Melrose. I have never posted a negative review of a restaurant... until tonight i bit into my egg roll and found a rubber band. i called them and spoke with the manager Jadon and he said he would give me a spring roll, or chicken finger next time not going back ever read more

Pretty damn good. Open late! This place is located right in the heart of a busy business section of town and offers what you would typically expect from a take out place of this genre. There was a generous portion of meats in my singapore noodles, which was great but being on the road, I just expected there to be plastic utensils and napkins. Nope! And no sauces and no cookie (which I didn't mind so much). Still at $12.99 the Singapore Noodles hit the spot and they are open late which is quite nice. Worth a visit! read more

This is one of our favorite local places, delicious, fast, and so friendly! There is one delivery driver that is so sweet. try the firecrackers! read more

I almost don't even want to write such a good review because I want to keep them a secret to myself !! But they are worth all the hype !! I got the pork and mushroom dumpling- fried Pork and leek - fried, veggie dumpling - steamed Peking ravioli and the fire cracker app Everything had great flavor! I did not love the steamed veggie dumpling only because they all stuck together and it was hard to share and eat. If I get it again I would get it fried. The Peking ravioli and the fire cracker were my favorite The fire cracker was basically a spicy crab ragoon LOVED it. When I come back I'm getting two orders of that !! The portion sizes were really good. The ravioli was huge. Sauce was very flavorful! I did not go to pick it up but my friend said it was very busy and that's always a good thing !! I wish I took more pictures but I was too excited. Next time I will add more photos :) read more

This restaurant falsely is listed on the food delivery apps as "Green Wok Vegan Delights". This restaurant is NOT VEGAN! It is a front for the real restaurant called Red Rose Chinese Food. After ordering from Green Wok Vegan Delights, I was certain my fried rice (labeled vegan.. from a vegan restaurant) contained egg. I had to do a little digging to find a phone number and was surprised to see the restaurant at the address listed is not what is listed on any of the food delivery apps. This took a "walk" down the street using online maps to find the real restaurant. It was confirmed to me they do use "Green Wok Vegan" on the delivery apps, and they do use egg in their fried rice. Also, the meal names from the order online do not match the receipt. They are literally passing things off from their normal "Red Rose" menu as their "Green Wok" menu. Do not trust this restaurant! read more

Used to love this place but it's gone downhill fast. Today was my last time. Ordered a combo dinner plate and the $12.95 they have it on their menu for, was actually $18.95. It offered rice as a substitute for one of the appetizers and said nothing about the $2.00 extra charge. I understand places have had to adjust their prices but this is a 50% increase and this basic combo is still $12.95 - $13.95 anywhere else in the area. The food was well below average, which is a big change from how it used to be. Not sure but I think the staff and/or management there has changed. IMO there are far better and more reasonably priced places in the area to opt for. read more

A lifesaver for busy nights! The food is pretty good, if you keep in mind how cheap the prices are.

Tried Red Rose when all the food lines were crazy at Melrose summer stroll. I should have checked the pictures on yelp first because I saw "Walnut Mayo Shrimp!" I am happy that I do not have to travel to Chinatown to savor this entree. It must be on a special menu because I cannot find it originally. Now I know what to order when I stop by again. I ordered the Singaporean Rice Noodles (stir-fried rice vermicelli in curry powder) and I loved their version. It was saucier than other Asian restaurants (other places I have ordered came out to be super dry). Also spicier too. I would love the dish even more if they did not use that many onions and add some veggies (normally cooked with peppers). Chicken breast chunks were cooked perfectly (very juice). Friendly staff and i was told that they can try to make entree that you dont see on the menu. read more

Found this place while driving through Melrose on a Friday night and noticed the sign was different, a new restaurant. I ordered a beef chow foon, salt & pepper pork chops and a combination plate with fried rice, spare ribs and chicken & broccoli. The winner was the salt & pepper pork chops. They were very crispy and was seasoned very well. Each bite was juicy and the meat was tender. This is a must have! Their chow foon was delicious too! Noodles weren't soggy but it was perfectly cooked and had a ton of flavor to it! Overall experience, great customer service, food was delicious and didn't have that MSG taste. Very reasonable pricing. Shout out to Tommy for offering an awesome service and made me feel very welcome. Definitely would come back to explore more on their menu. read more

Pretty good spot for quick Chinese food! FOOD: We ordered the yang chow fried rice, beef chow fun noodles, egg drop soup, general gau chicken and salt and pepper calamari and shrimp. The salt and pepper calamari and shrimp and the yang chow fried rice were just good. I still prefer to order these from Chinatown though just because it's more flavorful. General Gau's chicken was yummy, not soggy and perfectly sweet/sour. The egg drop soup was tasty. The chow fun noodles were so good. I kept going in for more since the portion size for that was huge. Big plus was the amount of beef inside and how fresh/hot everything was! read more

Excellent Chinese food take out! I really, really, enjoyed the dishes I got-- beef chow fun, beef and broccoli, chicken wings, and peking ravioli. All are really flavorful and well seasoned, but without being too heavy. It's very much Americanized Chinese food-- but its much better than most other places. It is truly perfect Saturday night on the couch Chinese food-- its not super fancy or fussy, it more satisfying like a perfectly made home cooked meal. Generous portions of high quality food! Delivery was quick and easy my food was still crispy and piping hot at the door-- something that doesn't always happen on Saturday nights when restaurants are busy. I am already dreaming of my next order, and crossing my fingers that the pandemic will end soon so that I can try it in restaurant. read more

Not sure what others have ordered but our pad Thai noodles literally fell apart with exactly 4 pieces of what looked like old broccoli. The tofu was ok but there remainder of " veggies" was green and red peppers which I requested to have omitted When we called to explain the dislike of the order we were told to " prove it " that the food was not as requested and fell apart. Wasn't looking for my $$ back but I will NEVER go back to this establishment Patrons beware! read more

First introduction to this restaurant was through meals donated to the hospital! This has been a pick-me-up during the pandemic, and restaurants that do this are greatly appreciated. I think this was a chicken and vegetables stir fry with rice. It was super good and filling, great portions. Thank you Red Rose read more

Before COVID-19, Red Rose was pretty much 5 star. Their food quality is fresh, impeccably made, detail oriented, and delivery is fast and friendly. AFTER COVID-19 they are a GO TO. OMG!! I live in the neighborhood and have been going to Red Rose for Chinese for the past 10 years and today was the WORST experience ever! That too just before Christmas! I bought two large dishes and requested two of those hot oils and guy at front desk apparently the OWNER told me he will give me one for free and the second will cost me $1. Jeez, I would have respected it more if he just said no I'm sorry costs have increased and I can't give you more than one per order. I checked with a friend and he thought he got two when he asked for extra. Is it because I'm Indian and non-white versus my friend who's white? I don't want to bring race into this because that's not fair but I'm not sure anymore what's fair? ‍ My bill - read more

waiting for my order, I watched as a pair of tongs fall on the floor. A "cook" picked them up and placed them on the handle of the oven. I watched waiting for someone to remove the tongs and wash them. No one did! I went and addressed the issue with the gentleman at the register. He looked at me as if I had 10 heads. Finally he said I do this "for you." I replied not for me, for your business. The tongs were on the floor, they are dirty. Finally he took the tongs away. I received my order, which I threw out because what else did they use to handle the food that had been on the floor!! As I was leaving the "cook" who dropped the tongs said something, everyone behind the counter laughed. I asked him to repeat it in English. He said NO! I will never go there again! read more

Wow, so sad to write this review but Red Rose you brought it upon yourself. 70 minutes to deliver three items, when we called to inquire the girl who answered the phone said " yea he is on his way" without asking our address name or even what we ordered.. it gets here... cold. So, just to inform you, Feng's driver called out and delivery was shut down for the night and we settled for you and it was crap. Your staff needs to bump up the old Customer Service and maybe get that delivery time down fellas because you served junk in a standard box tonight.. bravo read more

Service is very friendly and orders are filled quickly. Food quality is abysmal. Food preparation is worse. Ingredients are not fresh bordering on past their allowable freshness date. Chicken cuts are too large for some dishes and not cooked all the way through. Shrimp is sketchy and I feel has made me sick. Pork fried rice simply small poor cuts of fatty pork with soy sauce cooked rice and no vegetables. Pan fried Peking ravioli is fine but likely purchased from a central source and heated. Boneless spare ribs are poor quality cuts and not properly trimmed leaving lots of fat in cooked product. It is also undercooked. The price of the food is too high compared to other take away Chinese shops. read more

12/24/22 I ordered an appetizer plate. The fried shrimp had NO shrimp, it was all fried batter. The boneless ribs were mostly inedible fat. I had ordered a few months prior and the food was not very good, so I said I wouldn't order there again, but I decided to give Red Rose a second chance. Won't order again. read more

I am very happy that a new Chinese restaurant opened in the old Feng Shui spot. I have only been once but I am happy to see the open kitchen and cleanliness. Pros: cleanliness of the space and attentiveness of the staff. The Udon noodles were good and not overly greasy. Cons: no one one was wearing gloves but they were readily available. The woman preparing chicken fingers was bare handed and it looked like the chicken fingers were being prepared and held for potential orders. I realize that gloves are not required by law but it is strongly encouraged. The signage has not been changed and creates a confusing experience. There is too much pepper in the spring rolls for kids. Overall, these guys are trying and new. I think locals should give it a chance and let them rise to the occasion. I'll go back next month and try again. I think they will be great after they figure it out. read more
