The flavor was on point. Serving size is smaller than compared to where we usually get our take out. I wasn't the biggest fan of the crab Rangoons as the filling was more sour than sweet and creamy. I am a local in this town and Red Rose is an average Chinese restaurant. Nothing to call home about but it is a staple. On weekends they are open late which I think is great for Melrose! I usually stick with just Chicken Fried Rice and it's good. No veggies but good flavor, it is a little expensive but it works. Last time I went in the restaraunt, there was a dangerous customer causing a scene. I did not feel safe, and honestly the staff looked scared too. Second time I came here. I find it impressive that this is the only Chinese restaurant in the heart of Melrose off Main Street. This little spot is just for to go and not for dining in. The food itself is American Chinese standard taste, standard portions, and a high price given that it's Melrose. However, if you are in need of some good old fashioned greasy food and want your sugary tongue to be satisfied by enjoying the taste China-Merican food, look no further. This restaurant falsely is listed on the food delivery apps as "Green Wok Vegan Delights". This restaurant is NOT VEGAN! It is a front for the real restaurant called Red Rose Chinese Food. After ordering from Green Wok Vegan Delights, I was certain my fried rice (labeled vegan.. from a vegan restaurant) contained egg. I had to do a little digging to find a phone number and was surprised to see the restaurant at the address listed is not what is listed on any of the food delivery apps. This took a "walk" down the street using online maps to find the real restaurant. It was confirmed to me they do use "Green Wok Vegan" on the delivery apps, and they do use egg in their fried rice. Also, the meal names from the order online do not match the receipt. They are literally passing things off from their normal "Red Rose" menu as their "Green Wok" menu. Pretty damn good. Open late! This place is located right in the heart of a busy business section of town and offers what you would typically expect from a take out place of this genre. There was a generous portion of meats in my singapore noodles, which was great but being on the road, I just expected there to be plastic utensils and napkins. Nope! And no sauces and no cookie (which I didn't mind so much). Still at $12.99 the Singapore Noodles hit the spot and they are open late which is quite nice. Worth a visit! read more

I got the pork and mushroom dumpling- fried Pork and leek - fried, veggie dumpling - steamed Peking ravioli and the fire cracker app Everything had great flavor! I did not love the steamed veggie dumpling only because they all stuck together and it was hard to share and eat. If I get it again I would get it fried. The Peking ravioli and the fire cracker were my favorite The fire cracker was basically a spicy crab ragoon LOVED it. When I come back I'm getting two orders of that !! The portion sizes were really good. The ravioli was huge. Sauce was very flavorful! I did not go to pick it up but my friend said it was very busy and that's always a good thing !! It offered rice as a substitute for one of the appetizers and said nothing about the $2.00 extra charge. I understand places have had to adjust their prices but this is a 50% increase and this basic combo is still $12.95 - $13.95 anywhere else in the area. The food was well below average, which is a big change from how it used to be. Not sure but I think the staff and/or management there has changed. Tried Red Rose when all the food lines were crazy at Melrose summer stroll. I should have checked the pictures on yelp first because I saw "Walnut Mayo Shrimp!" I am happy that I do not have to travel to Chinatown to savor this entree. It must be on a special menu because I cannot find it originally. Now I know what to order when I stop by again. I ordered the Singaporean Rice Noodles (stir-fried rice vermicelli in curry powder) and I loved their version. It was saucier than other Asian restaurants (other places I have ordered came out to be super dry). Also spicier too. I would love the dish even more if they did not use that many onions and add some veggies (normally cooked with peppers). Chicken breast chunks were cooked perfectly (very juice). Found this place while driving through Melrose on a Friday night and noticed the sign was different, a new restaurant. I ordered a beef chow foon, salt & pepper pork chops and a combination plate with fried rice, spare ribs and chicken & broccoli. The winner was the salt & pepper pork chops. They were very crispy and was seasoned very well. Each bite was juicy and the meat was tender. This is a must have! Their chow foon was delicious too! Noodles weren't soggy but it was perfectly cooked and had a ton of flavor to it! Overall experience, great customer service, food was delicious and didn't have that MSG taste. Very reasonable pricing. Shout out to Tommy for offering an awesome service and made me feel very welcome. Definitely would come back to explore more on their menu. read more

Pretty good spot for quick Chinese food! FOOD: We ordered the yang chow fried rice, beef chow fun noodles, egg drop soup, general gau chicken and salt and pepper calamari and shrimp. The salt and pepper calamari and shrimp and the yang chow fried rice were just good. I still prefer to order these from Chinatown though just because it's more flavorful. General Gau's chicken was yummy, not soggy and perfectly sweet/sour. The egg drop soup was tasty. The chow fun noodles were so good. I kept going in for more since the portion size for that was huge. Not sure what others have ordered but our pad Thai noodles literally fell apart with exactly 4 pieces of what looked like old broccoli. The tofu was ok but there remainder of " veggies" was green and red peppers which I requested to have omitted When we called to explain the dislike of the order we were told to " prove it " that the food was not as requested and fell apart. Excellent Chinese food take out! I really, really, enjoyed the dishes I got-- beef chow fun, beef and broccoli, chicken wings, and peking ravioli. All are really flavorful and well seasoned, but without being too heavy. It's very much Americanized Chinese food-- but its much better than most other places. It is truly perfect Saturday night on the couch Chinese food-- its not super fancy or fussy, it more satisfying like a perfectly made home cooked meal. Generous portions of high quality food! OMG!! I live in the neighborhood and have been going to Red Rose for Chinese for the past 10 years and today was the WORST experience ever! That too just before Christmas! I bought two large dishes and requested two of those hot oils and guy at front desk apparently the OWNER told me he will give me one for free and the second will cost me $1. Jeez, I would have respected it more if he just said no I'm sorry costs have increased and I can't give you more than one per order. I checked with a friend and he thought he got two when he asked for extra. Is it because I'm Indian and non-white versus my friend who's white? waiting for my order, I watched as a pair of tongs fall on the floor. A "cook" picked them up and placed them on the handle of the oven. I watched waiting for someone to remove the tongs and wash them. No one did! I went and addressed the issue with the gentleman at the register. He looked at me as if I had 10 heads. Finally he said I do this "for you." I replied not for me, for your business. The tongs were on the floor, they are dirty. Finally he took the tongs away. Before COVID-19, Red Rose was pretty much 5 star. Their food quality is fresh, impeccably made, detail oriented, and delivery is fast and friendly. AFTER COVID-19 they are a GO TO. Service is very friendly and orders are filled quickly. Food quality is abysmal. Food preparation is worse. Ingredients are not fresh bordering on past their allowable freshness date. Chicken cuts are too large for some dishes and not cooked all the way through. Shrimp is sketchy and I feel has made me sick. Pork fried rice simply small poor cuts of fatty pork with soy sauce cooked rice and no vegetables. Pan fried Peking ravioli is fine but likely purchased from a central source and heated. Boneless spare ribs are poor quality cuts and not properly trimmed leaving lots of fat in cooked product. It is also undercooked. I am very happy that a new Chinese restaurant opened in the old Feng Shui spot. I have only been once but I am happy to see the open kitchen and cleanliness. Pros: cleanliness of the space and attentiveness of the staff. The Udon noodles were good and not overly greasy. Cons: no one one was wearing gloves but they were readily available. The woman preparing chicken fingers was bare handed and it looked like the chicken fingers were being prepared and held for potential orders. I realize that gloves are not required by law but it is strongly encouraged. The signage has not been changed and creates a confusing experience. There is too much pepper in the spring rolls for kids. Overall, these guys are trying and new. I think locals should give it a chance and let them rise to the occasion. I'll go back next month and try again. I think they will be great after they figure it out. read more
