Brought my car in for a front and back wheel alignment. Waited 2 hours and decided to go to Auto Zone next door and look around. Within 30 minutes of being gone they finished the alignment. In my opinion, my car drove the exact same way before I took it in. I went back a few weeks later and spoke to Craig , the owner, pretty much argued with me about the business being trustworthy and said to me "I could care less if you or anyone comes back here" " We are always busy and trusting". All I was asking for him to do is to check out the back tire alignment to see if it was worked on. He said he would but if it needed another alignment, I would have to pay for it! I didn't stay and never went back and I NEVER WILL ! He was rude, had an attitude and had a somewhat of nasty answers for everything I said! He said my car is cheap, nothing like a Toyota. I will tell people not to go to to this place!!! Comment after Sun Devil- I would never bring my car back to Sun Devil at this location after the way he talked to me! If an alignment wasn't able to be done on the back then how was an alignment done? Just done in the front ? So I paid for a front and rear alignment and only got the front worked on? My wife went in to get the oil changed, when she picked up the car, she noticed the hood wasn't closed. How is it that their "qualified" mechanics don't notice this? She contacted the manager who looked at it and determined that the latch was broken Upon inspecting it when she got home, I noticed new spray lubricant on it, which means they did know that they broke it, but would rather send her on her way with a hood that doesn't latch rather then telling her of their mishap. Think about the consequences of the hood opening while she was driving!!! Would they rather put their customers lives in danger rather then simply telling them of the situation??? FYI... it was simply a spring that came off that I, not a mechanic, fixed in less then 5 minutes. They did offer to repair the part they damaged, for only an additional $65. Worse ever. We take our vehicles here for something as simple as oil changes. We have our own personal mechanic of over 30+ years handle major jobs such as brakes and such. Our mechanic came by to replace our brakes on our car, he couldn't get the lug nuts off bc they were cross threaded. We took it back to Sun Devil to have them remove and replace nuts. Asked our mechanic to return to get the brakes done finally and again, the lug nuts were crossed threaded. Mechanic had to break the rods to get the lug nuts off so he can get the brakes done. My fiancé then took it back to Sun Devil to have the rods replaced and apparently, there was some ego being thrown around between he and Sean. Car was left with them. I called at 5pm and asked if it was done, and was told it should be done by 6pm. No call. Called this morning and spoke to Sean. He said it wasn't ready and there were several cars before us. Then later in the convo says to me there are 25 cars before us. Felt he was being a dick and having us wait because of the encounter between he and my fiancé the day before. When I called him back to ask how long would it take to replace the rod, he said he didn't know. Then proceeded to say it was technically my mechanic's fault for breaking the rods. He said we should have brought it back to them. Ummm that's what we did the first time yet it happened again. He rudely continued to speak over me. Made an appointment online a few days before for a full service synthetic oil change, easy process. Guys inside were quick, efficient, friendly enough, and to the point. Was quoted 45-60 minutes, finished in just under an hour. Price was cheaper than jiffy lube down the street, and process was way easier. We'll definitely be back for any further work needed. Only additional pro would have been somewhere to wait inside the building (there were already people waiting in the only two seats), but we just took a lyft to get lunch instead. read more

Picked up my car after routine oil change, tire rotation/tire pressure check. Charlie called me to say they should replace my cabin and air filters, as well as a coolant flush. Agreed to this process. I got in my car, no sticker indicating oil change, tire pressure light on, and for the second time, a mechanic's trash left in my passenger seat. At least this time it was a water bottle and not a dirty rag. They've always seemed like straight shooters, but now I am left doubting what work they actually did on my vehicle over the years, what I was charged for that wasn't completed. Very difficult to find a trustworthy mechanic, and sun devil adds to that anxiety. Learn to change your own oil I guess is the only solution. read more

The eve before a vicious phx heat wave I paid 100 for a thorough ac diagnostic because it was not a simple issue. Then they hit me with it, dun dun dun, air compressor, my heart skipped a beat, 1k+ !!! There goes my humble lil nesteg. ... Took it for a second opinion and walked out with an icy cold ac for less than half the price of their thorough diagnosis. Capitalism, eh? Fool me once, shame on you. I went to Sun Devil Auto a couple of months ago with my previous vehicle. I had an idea that it was a problem with the spark plugs. When I got a call back from them they said it was spark plugs but that I also needed the timing belt replaced due to milage and that it would cost $900. I asked what it would cost to get it fixed without the timing belt and he still said $900. Obviously the guy was pushing for an expensive timing belt replacement when all i needed was new spark plugs. I've dealt with lots of auto service centers in my time but this one was the shadiest by far. I wouldn't consider this is miscommunication or misunderstanding, the guy was clearly trying to get me to okay an expensive auto repair that didn't need to be done. I ended up not getting any repairs done by this shop and had to pay $75 because they looked at it. As for the 5 star review, of course it is going to be 5 star, her service was done for free and she wasn't pressured into getting work done on her car that she didn't need. read more

I have been working with the teams at Sun Devil Auto on 7th St/Bethany Home for the past few years since I moved to Phoenix, and I have nothing but the highest regards for Craig and Puna and their teams. I receive excellent care each and every time I bring my car there, and it's like walking into an old friend's home when you arrive to the store. I called the manager, Craig, this morning to let him know how much I appreciate his team because last night the boys waited for me to arrive, even though it was after closing. My car wouldn't start when I left my office in Scottsdale, so I drove straight to Sun Devil Auto after getting a jump start. I told Puna that I would arrive in about 15 minutes, getting there a few minutes before closing - he said it would be no problem to check the battery for me. Phoenix rush hour traffic had different ideas on the timing, and while I was waiting g to exit the freeway at Bethany Home, indicators popped on to tell me that I needed an oil change and tire rotation - I called Puna back to let him know it was taking longer than I expected, and asked if they could wait a little longer. With Puna there was never a moment when I felt like I was bothering him - it was, "No problem. We'll be here for you." I decided to leave my car with them over night - it was pulled into the garage - so they can do the necessary work for me today. Oh -- I drove past another Sun Devil Auto on Bell Road to get there. If my mechanic husband or father-in-law are not going to work on my car, it will be the Sun Devil Auto team on Bethany Home Road. Period. I've worked with the Frank Lloyd Wright location before, and I won't do it again because I didn't appreciate being talked down to - I'm a woman, not an incompetent. I won't say that this shop is dishonest because I don't feel the need to prove that.......at the least, they're 'shady'. I had this Sun Devil shop do an oil and filter change for me. I picked up my '05 Honda Civic after the service was done and drove the 2 miles home. Immediately after parking the car at home, I checked the oil to verify that the oil had been filled to the proper level and that it was 'clean' as one would expect immediately after an oil change. When I took a look at the oil on the dipstick I saw that the oil was filled to the correct level, but that the oil was somewhat dark and not 'clean' as it should be IMMEDIATELY following an oil change.....in other words, the oil was dirty. I called 'George', the employee i had dealt with, and presumable manager at the shop, and asked him what would account for the oil being dirty immediately after the oil change. George told me that the only thing that would cause the oil to be dirty was that, "if it had been a long time since the last oil change, dirty deposits in the engine would cause the oil to become dirty", even after having only driven the car two miles!! I said, "Oh,", thanked him and hung up. Now the fact of the matter is, is that there is no valid reason for the oil not to be clean immediately after an oil change. The only thing that will cause the oil to be dark/dirty is if dirty oil was added ...........or if all the dirty oil was not removed from the engine during the oil chnage and/or .......the old oil filter was not removed. What I feel sure that Sun Devil did in this case was to only change my oil and not change the filter, too. If the oil filter is not changed with an oil change, about a quart of dirty oil is left in the filter and thus does not get changed. Then, when the engine runs, the dirty oil from the unchanged old oil filter mixes with the new oil........and contaminates the new oil thus making the oil dark/dirty IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE OIL CHANGE. You also don't get the benefit of a new oil filter. When I picked up my Honda, George also tried to talk me into having my timing belt/chain replaced. He told me that for my specific car, I was risking having major engine problems if I didn't have the replacement done soon. The fact of the matter is, is that my Honda Owner's Manual says that the timing belt/chain is not scheduled for replacement until 110K miles..........at that time, it only had 74K miles it. Now as I've already said, I'm not calling this Sun Devil shop crooked, I'm merely pointing out what my experience with them was. I would suggest that you stay far away from Sun Devil!!!! read more

Brought in a 2009 Honda CRV with what seemed to be a disintegrating brake caliper The car made an ungodly sound while in motion. We're a one-car family and work together in the West Valley, so we sucked it up, driving slowly through the work week. I assumed the caliper was falling apart and would need both that and a new rotor. Brought it in early Saturday morning, wondering how our meager teacher-salaries would be impacted. They called a couple hours later and said a dust cover near the rotor had been dented in enough to cause contact with the rotor, presumably by road debris. They inspected all the brakes, corrected the dent, and charged us NOTHING. Zero dollars. Zero cents. These guys have made customers for life. read more

As it turns out they only install parts THEY buy, which they can mark up greatly to make more profits. Gates are arguably the best belts made, and I still had them in the new packaging, purchased two weeks ago. Didn't matter... Went in for prepurchase auto inspection. I told person that was helping me at the counter that I wasn't really confident with the job, because they missed reporting two lights that were out and I did not see them conduct a thorough job, including putting the car on the lift. I acknowledged that it was possible I didn't see them do it, because I was inside for the first 10-15 minutes. He said "okay" and walked away. At least two stars because they replaced the two burnt-out lights for free and the technician apologized and admitted it should have been addressed during the initial inspection. Update: Upgraded from two stars to three stars. Manager agreed to conduct second inspection for free, of which was much more thorough. Manager went through the vehicle discrepancies with me, personally. I made sure to watch the entire process, this time. Still, I did not see the lights get checked. read more

Dealt with the manager, George, last month, when I brought my car in for a oil change and checkup to ready my car for a trip to Las Vegas. He's like "I hope you aren't planning on taking this car to Vegas." LOL. As it turns out, my car was 22,000 miles PAST the recommended factory service guide of replacing the timing belt, at 60,000 miles (I had over 80,000 miles). I didn't have much money and not only did he work a nice discount for me, they had the ability to carry a payment for 30 days so I could get the work done. Very professional, friendly and good people here. And no, I'm not related to them in any way, shape or form. I will be using them again. read more

I scheduled an appointment at 1 to look at my AC/heat that wasn't working, by 4 I hadn't heard anything so gave them a call. They stated the techs had my ticket. I asked if they had an estimate as to when it would be finished. The man said hopefully today, but definitely tomorrow. When I clarified that they might not be able to look at it today he stated "well it's 4 and we close at six that's not a lot of time to look at it". It had been there since the appointment time at 1!! I told them I'd be there at 5 to pick up my car. Miraculously 30 minutes later they'd looked at it and told me my air filter was clogged up, my condenser wasn't working, and a valve was broken. That it would cost $1,700. I told them to just replace the air filter and I'd figure out the rest later. He gave me some grumblings about parts. With just the air filter changed, as I drove off I turned on my AC/heat... it is back to working perfectly. So much for the condenser not working and a broken valve. read more

Long story short, Craig is extremely helpful and honest and the main reason I kept coming back. I enjoyed dealing with him. This was my first experience with Sun Devil Auto, It will not be my last. From the moment I picked up the phone I was treated with respect and kindness. Puna informed me of different options for service, mentioned a coupon I could use due to the amount of work I was requesting and took the time to tell me he looked forward to earning my business. Outstanding. I even called my dealer's service center and confirmed that, as I informed, the same services thorough them were double the price! Drop-off was a friendly and professional breeze. He called several times during the day. First to let me know that some of the items I wanted checked out where in good working order and that they recommended a regular 30K mi service that was long overdue and updated the service quote for me so there would be no surprises. Then when he called to let me know the car was done. When I arrived there WAS one surprise that was bill-related. It turned out to be $100 less than originally quoted. There were a couple of services my car didn't need so they didn't charge me for them. They also threw in the inspection since I was having other work done. It was simply the most pleasant experience I could have had with an auto shop. We will be taking both our vehicles to Sun Devil Auto from now on! read more

This is sad.( long story short , I paid for an oil change that they never changed.. I was charged 64 dollars for a synthetic oil change I was under the impression my oil was changed an brand new as I left. It was making ticking sounds as soon as I left.. I thought it was bc the new oil.. I figured out at the end of the month AFTER TRYING TO FIND OUT WHATS WRONG WITH IT ALL MONTH that My Kia was running on black oil that had 6,000 miles of use on it already.. MEANING IT WAS TIME FOR AN OIL CHANGE... then I drove it all month unknowingly for another 3,000 miles cause I thought it was new oil.. their inconsideracy caused damage to my engine an caused it to be making ticking sounds all month till I changed the oil myself and realized how thick it was. So now 9,000 miles later they fucking robbed me of my money an time an never even did shit to my car! They literally didn't change my oil but charged me for it. AND MY BRAND NEW CAR ENGINE IS FUCKED UP) I just bought a 2018 Kia Soul. I pay good money to keep my car in shape. I don't use cheap gas or oil or anything. It's my baby. Iv worked my way through shitty cars to get to where I'm at, an I'm very greatful for my car. I went in to get an oil change bc it was right down the road from where I stayed. It took 1 1/2 hours that was fine. They were nice. I just wanted to get in an out. I noticed immediately as I left the small lot my car sounded funny an it wasn't driving right.. i know Cars well enough that I can usually pin point the issue, the engine sounded like I needed an oil change. I thought that was funny cause I just got one.. so I thought if I drive around a little the new oil would start burning an I'd be fine.. well after 3 days the sound got worse.. I checked my oil to eliminate any issues an make sure it wasn't low.. it was fine. I drive around like this all month trying to figure out wtf did I do to my car.. got fuel treatment to see if it was that.. so whatever I couldn't figure out why it sounded like this. As my oil change rolled around again I was going go here again.. called in they were full... I'm glad I didn't.. I went an bout my own oil an filter an air filter. changed it myself. My car doesn't make the sound anymore an the old oil was thick as mud an black as hell... this cheap ass sun devil auto fakemotive charged me 64 dollars an never changed my fuckin oil.. KIA is known to get dirty engines fast... so it's crucial you don't miss an oil change... meanwhile they fuckin thought it was a good idea to scam people of their Money an time... an will cost me more money in the long run.. I don't know exactly what to say and how to approach this. I had a terrible experience with a rude employee and them telling me I needed parts that were very expensive only to find out they don't actually fit inside my car. This has been a waste of time, money, and effort. I don't want to rate them one star out of fear of retaliation and I don't want to name the rude employee. However, I do hope something is learned from this. I walked in at 7 am and was the only person in the place at the time. I spoke with an employee and got my car set up to be assessed. It's an old, terrible car and I am trying to get it in reasonable shape to get me to and from work while I hunt for a new one. I mentioned that I wanted to know what is wrong and get a list of estimated repair costs so that my dad can look over it all and see what he is able to fix himself. The employee asked, in a condescending tone, "is your dad a mechanic?". I laughed it off and said no, but inside I'm thinking how my dad may not be a mechanic, but he's smart and enjoys fixing cars as a hobby. I trust pops with this. So I head back home and wait to be called. I waited for 3 hours before deciding to call them since they said it would be about an hour. I thought it was odd it took so long since I was the first in line. I waited a little longer to get a call back from the same employee I spoke with in person. I was told all about the things I needed fixed. The main one being a thermostat housing unit which will cost me $239 with a $298 labor fee. In total, all the repairs will be a little over $1,000. Wow. Ok. So I asked my boyfriend who was sitting right there and he said the thermostat housing unit should only cost about $18. The employee heard this and, once again in a condescending tone, said "no, it's not an $18 part". I told him I wasn't comfortable paying for these repairs just yet. He sounded annoyed, but said he is fine with me thinking it over. I understand my car is in bad shape, but I cannot dish out $1,000 without having people I trust look into it. I called up my dad who found this recommended part from Advanced Auto for $126. Much cheaper, right? So I buy it online and my dad goes to another Sun Devil location in Mesa to have them install it for a labor fee $100 cheaper than this location offered.** **Here's the hilarious part, the unit doesn't fit in my car. Sun Devil recommended the wrong part. After further research, my dad found out the thermostat unit I actually needed cost $27. So my boyfriend was pretty close when he said only $18! I'm sure they would have figured this out and I probably would have been able to get a refund, but please do not patronize people and please do not talk to customers like they're idiots. On top of that, I felt like I was being ripped off completely. I'll never go to Sun Devil again since I had this experience and my dad also had a terrible time with the one in Mesa. read more

I took my truck in 3 weeks ago for a oil and filter change. A few days ago, my truck was making noises and a burning smell was coming through the vents of my truck. My check engine light and other lights started to go on. My truck would not start! I opened my hood to have a look. A plastic bottle was left behind by the mechanic to catch oil, the size of a gatorade bottle. So over the last 3 weeks the bottle wedged against my alternator belt, and drive shaft. I removed the bottle, and took a picture of the bottle. I told manager Craig G, about the bottle and showed him the bottle, and I said this was stuck against the alternator and belt drive shaft. I said this has damaged my alternator!! Manager Craig G, "said the bottle didn't cause any damage" Another mechanic tested the battery, and said the battery was dead! Ok test the alternator volts and the mechanic tested and said" Volts are at 12volts" Manager Craig G, your battery will charge just fine!" Ok paid for new battery, and went on my way. About 4 hours later, my check battery light came on! Took back to shop, and another mechanic tested it. Yep your alternator is bad! I said the bottle did do damage! Manager Craig G, said "No it did not cause the damage!" So I looked up volts for a working alternator and 14 volts should be the output! I am no mechanic, but you said 12 volts should be ok to charge the battery! Manager Craig G, shrugged his shoulders and said" Alternators go bad!" So to some it up, he gives me a quote to fix with a $200 off to put in a new one! I said who ever worked on my truck should pay for this! Manager said " I cant ask one of my minimum wage workers to pay for this!" I said so his mistake is going to cost me! I drove away trying to keep calm! Manager calls 2 hours later and said" ok the bottle was rubbing against the belt. I will throw in a free alternator belt, when we change out the alternator" The nerve of this guy!!!!! Please stay away from this place! Just because the oil change is a good price. Look what it could cost you later!!!!!! read more

While the people here are really nice and the price for basic services (oil change, tire rotation) is reasonable, every time I went I was told about multiple other things on my car that had to be replaced and all were super expensive. The one time I paid nearly $2,000 to fix something, I was called in the middle of the repair to learn that another multiple-thousand-dollar repair was "discovered." This was not an old car, either, so it was astounding how much was constantly deemed to be wrong with it. I told them I'd skip it and now I just trust my boyfriend to fix my car (thanks repair manual textbooks!). I would be slightly wary of this business' intentions. read more

George is consistently trying to squeeze any extra dollars out of you that he possibly can. Every time I go I there I hear about how I need to change my timing belt, when I'm not slated for another 20k miles. I see he does this with other people too from other reviews. His prices are relatively high, and every time I went there he made it seem as if something else big needed work, which it never did. I leave this business for those two reasons. They're relatively quick with an appointment, have inexpensive oil change pricing and rotated my tires without charging me. This last oil change they told my husband there was a transmission fluid leak, but couldn't specify the location of the leak. I took it to another shop today who couldn't locate any leak at all. I've heard from other people who have been there that they felt the mechanics will recommend other services that aren't necessary. I'll keep coming back for the inexpensive oil change but if they tell me there's something wrong I will always take it somewhere else for a second opinion. read more
