I bought a '16 Corvette from Midway Chevrolet in August 2021 with just under 16K miles. Went to the dealer for my first oil change and told them I was experiencing changing temps in my air conditioner. They charged me $380. To diagnose the problem which was to replace both actuators at a price of $4,100 A friend recommended Johnstons Auto and when they checked the car there was NOTHING wrong with the actuator at all. Dwight Johnston suggested A few things that I might try and said if I had anymore trouble to bring it back and they will check the compressor. Do not take your vehicle to this place for anything other than an oil change, if even that. My truck had a boil-over and I took it to them after changing the thermostat myself and seeing no improvement. They recommended a new water pump for $750+. I agreed. I go to pick up my truck and Mike and Amy at the front desk say "you may or may not make it home, most likely going to need a whole new cooling system." Didn't make it home. Had to bring it back and pay them an additional $900+. Later I notice a leak coming from the top of my gas tank and assume it's the pump, I take it once more and she tell me it's $675 just to drop the tank and diagnose. They find the problem (cracked gasket seal) and fix it and send me on my way $750+ dollars later. A few days go by and my tank is now leaking again and WAY worse than before. I call because they "warranty their work". They bring it in, drop the tank and tell me now I need a whole new gas tank because it's cracked." Amy proceeds to tell my wife that she thinks it looks like a rock jumped up off the freeway and caused the crack in my tank, therefor not being covered under warranty as it is not their fault". $850+ they want again. I asked for pictures to show me the damage and they refused. They were adamant that they "fix things, not break things". I refused to pay without them proving to me that the damage was not due to their shop and they put my broken tank back on and told me to come get my truck. The mechanic circled where the leak was on the tank and it's directly under the strapping where it mounts the tank under the truck, very clearly from the stress of them over-tightening it and attempting to improperly reinstall the tank. No damage from this mysterious magical jumping boulder, just damaged from their incompetent employees. Also the staff is only nice if you are there in a bind and they know they can bend you over on price, as soon as you give push back the customer service and respect goes out the window. Do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere. read more

My dealership told me I needed to have my alternator replaced and were going to charge over $800 which included the price of the part and three hours of service. When I went to Johnston's they charged me the price of the part which was in the same price field as my dealership and one hour of service. Recently, I was sick of traveling to the dealer for an oil change so I decided to give them a try. I called and they fit me in early the next morning. We dropped off the car and it was ready within a couple hours, and the pricing was in line with their estimate. The car is a Mercedes, so oil changes are expensive. Johnston's came in at least $200 lower than the dealer. They had great communication during the service, and their shop is very neat and presentable. You can tell they take pride in their business. We have an 2001 Isuzu Rodeo and we are going to be driving it to Rocky Point, so I wanted someone to look it over and tell me if anything needed to be fixed. I called 25th Street Automotive and their exact words were, "we don't deal with cars like that because they are too time consuming." I called Johnston's Automotive and they said that absolutely they would look at it and for $45-$50 they would go over everything and do a diagnostic of what all might need to be done. I took it in the next day and Sherry called me in about an hour with the diagnosis and estimate. I felt like it was very thorough and reasonable. I had them do some of the work and they didn't end up charging me for the diagnostic. We are going to do some of the other less important things in stages. Dwight is even going to figure out how to attach my fan shroud that has come loose and they don't make any more. I appreciate that. I forgot to do this after my wife got her car back a few weeks ago, but I just remembered last night. We took our 2005 Accord in for a checkup, oil, etc. We also asked them to fix the driver side door. It wouldn't unlock with the fob or from the inside switch. It also wouldn't open with the key and my wife was just leaving it unlocked since it got so bad. I was afraid she'd get stuck in an emergency. Anyway, I was "prepared' to hear hear it was going to be 2, 3, $500 or more. Anyway, they called later with an update and guess what - No Charge!!! I heard nothing but great reviews both locally by word of mouth and online about Johnston's Automotive. They definitely hold up to what's been said. They are extremely honest, well priced, and what I liked most was they explained every detail when an issue is diagnosed - which isn't very common in my experience. I've had shops tell me something needs to be done with no explanation, other then let's fix it, here's the price. With Johnston's they gave me possible options and explanations. They even saved me about 300$ by not doing something I assumed needing fixing. Cheri is also a great person to deal with. Tl;dr: $120 to run diagnostics on your car. Called and harassed me about my bad yelp review because I felt like I was overcharged. I went to Johnston's looking to have my check engine light checked. I knew basically what was wrong by going to Autozone. Johnston's charged me $120 to run diagnostics and wanted $1000-1200 to do the repair. I called another shop with five stars on yelp and was quoted $375. I am leaving a bad review because I felt like I was overcharged. The people at Johnston's decided to call and harass me about the review. Basically, their complaint was that my review was inaccurate. However, the employee was very obviously not interested in winning my business back, and, instead, seemed to be trying to intimidate me into taking my review down. My husband and I were on our way to Prescott around 11:45am and as we were backing out of parking from breakfast, our front tires both klunked and were jolting.. in drive it was no problem, only in reverse. We were on 24th street headed home as we didn't want to risk the safety..we saw this place driving by. We stopped and within minutes of the crew backing up, they found the problem..a bolt came off the left front caliper and was digging into the wheel when in reverse, flipping it back into the wheel..it was ready to fall off! Also, they found a broken stud. Within 50 minutes they had us on our way! They had to get a part locally but less than an hour we were fixed. After a particularly long day, my poor husband's Scion tC started throwing some weird electrical symptoms that seemed to indicate a dying alternator. He stopped at an O'Reilly on the way home to get the battery and alternator tested, and the guy assured him that both were in great shape and that the likely culprit was the starter. Since that made absolutely no sense, he limped it to another O'Reilly, who gave him another jump (yeah...not the starter). The Scion sputtered to a stop a few miles down the road, and conveniently in front of Johnston's. Fate, right? Thanks to you Yelp ninjas, we felt safe leaving the keys in the lockbox having never even spoken to these guys. In the morning, Shari, the owner's wife and receptionist, didn't mind corresponding with my husband via email (he has a job that makes it difficult to step out for a personal call). They had the alternator replaced same-day, as promised, and when we came to pick up the car, Shari spoke about their pride in running an ethical, trustworthy establishment.
