My car wouldn't start so I had it towed to Wilhelm's on North Cave Creek. After they did diagnostics it was the fuel pump. Gave me a price of $1050 which seemed high but I said ok. When picking up the car the price was over $1400. They claimed they called and I okayed that. I think I would remember a $400 increase. Saw no since in arguing but they won't have me as a repeat customer. I would have rated them lower but the repair seems to have fixed the issue but I would suggest if you use them you get a written price up front. read more

Avoid Wilhelm Automotive if you value professionalism and respect. My experience here was nothing short of frustrating and insulting. I brought my vehicle in for diagnostics and paid $135 for what turned out to be a quick check. Their solution? Replace the battery for $300, even though it worked fine the night before. When I declined their overpriced service and said I'd replace the battery myself, the mechanic became visibly irritated and kept going on about "Economics 101," as if charging outrageous prices and being condescending were part of some grand lesson. They they became rude about requesting the veteran discount. It didn't stop there despite me being nothing but nice to them. When I returned to replace the battery myself, they refused to reset a simple warning light, smugly claiming that I hadn't "paid them enough" for the service. Keep in mind, the diagnostic they charged $135 for took less than an hour. This shop's attitude is appalling. Their priority isn't solving problems but milking customers for every cent. I have used Wilhelm Automotive for about 5 years with good satisfaction. They are not cheap, nor (usually) as expensive as the dealerships. With Covid and Inflation, Wilhelm Automotive has had to raise the price of their services. This was somewhat expected. While I was waiting for service for my auto, I overheard one of the workers, perhaps a manager, talk to a customer about repairs needed for the customer's auto. What was unexpected was hearing a price estimate of $120 for changing a cabin filter. Really? Why is WIlhelm perpetuating this scam? This scam is what caused me to stop using the auto dealer for mainentance. For the last three years I have purchased a quality cabin filter each year and replaced it myself WITHIN TEN MINUTES for my two automobiles. If Wilhelm wants to impress people, make the price more reasonable for the actual amount of time needed. They could cut the dealer price by 50% and still make a sizeable profit. But for now I will seek out another automotive shop for maintenance needs. read more

Off the bat I was greeted with kindness and a smile that made me feel comfortable already. As a girl it can be intimidating going in for car repairs. Upon diagnosing the issue they sat down and explained to me in simple terms with pictures and videos what the issue was. No place has done that before and it made me feel confident they knew what they were doing and not trying to take advantage of me. I took my Fiat to Wilhelm Automotive for AC recharge and to repair windows that wouldn't go up or down. They gave me an estimate of $3,500, claiming the plastic clips alone for the windows would cost $900--ridiculous! I got a second opinion just down the street. They not only fixed the AC and windows for around $1,500 but also had to address issues Wilhelm caused. Save yourself the hassle--run from this place! I hate to leave reviews like this, but thought others should know what they are getting in to. read more

Had several good experiences here with a younger service tech guy that answered the phones and had amazing people skills. But today I called and then went in to have my battery replaced and the guy I encountered was rude and a totally unprofessional. Zero people skills. Turns out (my fault) I spoke to another Wilhelm location who was totally helpful but this location had no interest at all in helping me. The 5211 E Thomas location is the one that lost me as a customer today. Drove a couple miles and Midas installed the battery for half. read more

The employees themselves are very kind and explain things well, with thorough explanations. However, use caution when relying on their suggestions. I was told 18 things needed repairs, and 3 of which were critical or I would not be able to make it safely home. I was told to do only the most emergent items it would start at about $1700. When I got a second opinion from another mechanic, I was told there was absolutely nothing wrong with it at all. This mechanic is the reason people are forced to be so skeptical. It's sad to think of how many people are being taken advantage of and scammed out of their money for unneeded services. read more

Had been going to this place specifically because they did good, fairly priced work on my car in the past. Not sure what happened but I'd never go back again nor recommend them to anyone. Charged me 200 dollars for a "full inspection" when I thought I had an oil leak. All they did was watch it for a bit to see if it leaked...told me my car was fine. Not a half a mile out of their garage my car stops in the middle of the street on Thomas. Take it right back with a tow and they tell me they can't look at it again for another 3 days. Misdiagnosed my car and tried to charge me damn near 1500 dollars for a premature repair that wouldn't even fix the problem and get my car mobile. Ultimately told me the repair would be 6-8k $ for the real problem and I'd be better off getting a new engine. But still tried to gouge me for the premature repair they did even though it didn't fix my car. Went back and forth with customer care for a week and eventually got my car back without paying anything, which is the only reason this isn't a 1 star review. Shady, incompetent business going on here. To top it off, I took it to get a second opinion on the advice of some car folks that told me their diagnosis didn't really sound sensible. Ended up being something completely different, they got me fixed up and rolling like new for a fraction of what this place was quoting. Minus something super small and routine...Do Not take your car here. Sadly enough, if I had written this review months ago...it would be a glowing, 5-star report. Not sure what happened, but it definitely is not a place I recommend in to anyone in good faith. read more

Booked an appointment for an oil change a day prior for a next day 7:30 am morning at 29233 N Cave Creek Rd, Cave Creek, AZ 85331, United States location. 12:30 PM past but the service guy called Nick told me that 4 customers ahead of my car. I noticed he serviced other vehicles who checked in after me. Observed racist behavior. Very rude front office guy , horrible customer service , wasted my valuable 5 hours sitting there just for an oil change. Wont suggest this place. Worst ever customer experience!!!! Will not recommend this place. Its 2023 and they have an legit appointment maintenance system. The guy in the front office always have the answer for how many cars are in front of you to service. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE. SCAMMING people out of their money. I've probably spent $1000+ on routine maintenance with this company over the past 2 years. My wife brought in our 2012 Toyota Prius for a routine oil change - I asked her to get a quote on the major fluid flush (trans and coolant) - these scammers quoted her for a POWER STEERING coolant flush. On a Prius with ELECTRIC steering. (Electric steering needs no fluid nor maintenance at all). They wanted her to get all of the work done that day but thankfully she didn't and I was able to go over the invoice. I called and spoke with Mike about this issue, he called it a "human error" and didn't even offer to make it right, knowing they would've charged us an additional $120 for a service they would've never performed. For a company who swears by their honest and integrity, this shows what their true motives are. Preying on those who don't know any better about their vehicles. a couple of months ago, my left rear tire blew out and it took the wheel well liner with it. right after that, my check engine light came on. after getting a new tire, i went to find out why the light was on. i was told that it was a fuel system pressure sensor warning and that at least one of those sensors was in the wheel well that was just damaged. it wasn't an "urgent" fix, so i waited until i needed an oil change to address the issue. i went to wilhelm for the oil change and while there, i told the service rep about the blowout damage and the sensor. he told me that it could be an easy fix, but that a pressure test may need to be done and that would cost about $180. i told him that i would have to wait until i could scrape up $180. again, i was told that it was not and urgent fix, but to come back when i was ready. after a couple of months, i couldn't stand driving with the check engine light on. i felt like i needed to get the fuel pressure sensor fix or replace done, so that i would know that if the light came on again that there was a different problem. on wednesday of this week (may 8), i had a 9 a.m. appointment and i took it in to wilhelm and again told the service rep the whole story and that i was pretty sure that if the technician would just look in the rear left wheel well, he could see the problem and maybe avoid the pressure test (which i really can't afford, because i'm old and can't work and live on social security). i was told that i would have to leave the vehicle, so i walked home. i think that when you have an appointment, it is reasonable to think that someone would start work on the vehicle within an hour of the appointment time...but i guess not at wilhelm. i finally got a call from julietta at 1:30 (4 1/2 hours later). she told me that the tech had just finished a 2 hour diagnostic and found that the damage from my blowout had not only damaged the fuel pressure sensor, but had made it disappear. there were just wires where it used to be. then, she told me that my bill so far was over $600. i was shocked. if i had known that it was possible for my bill to be even $300, i would not have brought my vehicle in. hearing my shock, julietta said that it was 2 hours of diagnostics at $300 an hour. again, i was shocked. wilhelm was charging me 2 hours at $300 an hour to tell me just what i told the service rep when i brought it in - that the problem was in the left rear wheel well...something that was obvious as soon as anyone looked in the wheel well. how could that take 2 hours? julietta said that a "complete fix" could include dropping the gas tank and would complicated and very expensive. (if it costs $600 to state the obvious, i can only imagine what "very expensive" might be.) she said that her tech suggested just splicing the loose wires together...that this would complete the circuit and the fuel pressure warning would go away. still reeling from the $600 price tag, i said to just do it. i live alone and that is my only transportation and i need it back. then, i asked when i could walk to wilhelm and get my vehicle. she said "not until tomorrow". i was at my wits end at this point. i said that it was now 1:30 and asked how your tech could not splice a wire in 4 1/2 hours before closing. she did not have an answer. i asked her to give me a call if he got it done before closing because i really needed my vehicle. the next morning at 10:30, i still had not gotten a call...so i called wilhelm. julietta said it still wasn't done, but it would be done "soon". a little while later, she called and said that my vehicle was ready. the check engine light was still on, but i knew that sometimes it takes a little while for the computer to re-set. the next morning, i had an early doctors appointment. the check engine light was out....but....4 miles down the road, i heard a "bong" and light was back on. at 76 years of age, i don't deal with confrontation well and have avoided taking the vehicle back and dealing with these frustrating people again. bottom line -- don't trust these people! read more

We have used Wilhelm Tatum Ranch for many years, and always have been very satisfied with the work they do. They would also service the air in the tires during cold weather for no charge. Service was always terrific! This summer we moved to central Scottsdale, and were worried about establishing with a new place to service our vehicles. When we needed to do routine but costly manufacturer suggested maintenance, we noted that Wilhelm had an Arcadia/Scottsdale location. It was a bit farther away, but decided to go there. What a nice surprise to find that Ernie, who helped us in Tatum Ranch, was now splitting time at their Arcadia location. He had all our records pulled from the Tatum Ranch office and on hand when I dropped off my vehicle. Repairs were done as promised, and our vehicle is "good to go" for the forseeable future. As a courtesy, they offer Lyft rides home, and from home back to the shop. Awesome!! We will continue to use them for our vehicle repairs! read more

Almost on a concierge level. They're not cheap but they warrantee all their work, get it done as promised and do it well. They even give you $$ credit toward your next service based on a % of your bill. I have never had a problem and they keep my 16 year old car running like new. At first I was a little saddened to learn that my former mechanic had up and sold the business at the drop of a hat. BUT, I am pleased to report that Wilhelm (who's now at my mechanics old location) are a great group to work with. From Devin and Jim at the front counter to the one mechanic that I've met. They are all extremely friendly. The first time I stopped in, it was just to swing by to see why my mechanics weren't answering the line. That's when I found out the business had been sold. Devin and Jim said that they'd be glad to have a look at what was wrong with The Beast. I told them that I was having Fuel Pump issues and that just the month prior, the old shop couldn't get my extended warranty to cover it. I explained what was happening and they said I could set up an appointment and have it looked at. Well I wasn't able to get back in until almost 3 or so weeks later. I called ahead of time and believe it or not, but Devin remembered me and the issue that was happening with The Beast. I setup an appointment for the following morning. I drop of The Beast at 7:30 and am given a ride back to the house (where I grab the car - J was driving my old pickup cause he knew I'd need the car). I expect them to have the car for at least a day or two. Much to my surprise, I receive a call a couple hours later stating that the warranty company approved the work order and that the part was being delivered. I'd have The Beast back by that afternoon. CRAZY! They also looked at the window regulator, which the warranty company wouldn't cover for some reason, and did a LOF. I told Devin that I'd be at the house by 4pm and he arranged for me to be picked up again. Fast and Friendly Service. Gotta Love It! read more

"Forgot to put my coolant overflow tank back into the engine, no apology. I have been a customer for over 2 years. They are the only mechanic to have touched my car. Was hoping to only go to them versus the dealership BUT they almost blew-up my engine. I had the serpentine belt replaced in mid-July 2020. I was driving down to Tucson for work and my check engine light started flashing in my Acura RDX. I called the dealer service dept and they said to pull over immediately and tow it to them, something was hugely wrong. They were right. The mechanic was at a complete loss of words when he saw that the coolant overflow tank was MISSING. They said that whoever serviced the car last forgot to put it in. I called Wilhelm Automotive on Thomas. The manager apparently didn't think it was important enough to get on the phone with me initially. Why? When I called back and actually reached Mike, he said it was 'Hard to believe' that the car wouldn't have overheated in record breading heat.' Yes, I said, I was completely shocked too along with the dealer. Thank goodness I have an Acura! I pay mechanics to take care of my vehicle, that's not my niche - I'm a business person. NO apology from Mike. He said the would replace the $22 tank, wow - thanks Mike. I had Acura replace it because I needed to trust it was done correctly. Acura was so in awe this happened, they didn't charge me for labor. Mike never apologized, meaning he didn't take responsibility. I only do business with those I can trust. I have been a routine customer for this Wilhelm Automative for 3 years and servicing 2 different used cars. Every aspect of their customer service and mechanical work has been very satisfying. They have charged me reasonable costs on the work I chose after receiving a list of primary and secondary needs. Although some of the advised replacements didn't need to happen (and I often chose to only do what was urgent), they were highly proficient, knowledgeable, timely, and helpful in terms of using discounts and their rewards program. The hourly cost of labor is a bit on the high side, but A. You get what you pay for, and B. They do the work with honest swiftness. Furthermore, they always exhibited a strong customer-centered approach by offering me free rides (including Ubers they paid for) to transport me home and back. Finding and marrying a mechanic is up there with the insecurity of obtaining a lawyer or property agent - in terms of trustworthiness to do the right thing and in your best interest.
