I was looking for a local car repair shop instead of a large chain servicer hoping to get better overall care and service, and Simon & Son's provided exactly that! I was able to quickly get on to their schedule (my desired date and time was open the following week) to do an overall inspection after adding another 5K on the car. They were very helpful with describing what they did as well as pointing out some issues that I should keep an eye on. As I knew the previous owners of the car, they recommended that I check with them to figure out the last time a few of the components were serviced, and did not push any additional and unnecessary services that have been known to come with the larger businesses. I first came to Simon and Sons after a decades-long mechanic relationship with J and S Foreign Car Repair on McDowell. Anyone who went to J and S pretty much stuck with them until they bought a new warranty car or died! Replacing that is as hard as picking a primary care physician. I know something many of you don't...this IS the place to go for anything related to your car. Let's be real, taking your car to the shop can be a horrible experience, but this was an amazing experience. My Nissan is usually a 'dealership rip-off' job but I really wanted to give my business to a local shop. I stopped in assuming that I would need all four brakes done and probably would have a laundry list of stuff wrong that would end with a filter. I dropped the car off and a few hours later I got the call that I was dreading. Here's the shock, the shop said I didn't need brakes and the horrible noise was something loose somewhere (they explained it to me but I don't get all of that) and that they fixed it. I was confused that they hadn't tried to rip me off with new brakes, or bearings or any number of random things the dealership kills me for. They asked a couple of questions about the transmission (it had been replaced under a recall by Nissan about 18 months ago) and they noticed there were a lot of loose bolts and one missing. they tightened those up for me and checked everything. I showed up to get the car and they looked me in the eye and said 'no charge' for this, we didn't need to replace anything. NO CHARGE? No charge for their time, or the fact that I didn't have an appt? No charge when they new I just dropped the thing off and said 'please fix it' and they could have squeezed me for a ridiculous amount? Here's the thing, I don't want them to get too busy because I want them to be 'my place' from here on out. Thank you all! read more

One step inside the front door and most would turn around and leave. That being said, I am glad I didn't. This is an "Old School" garage, where the real talent lies behind a greasy wall, not a fancy facade. So, I immediately knew I was in the right place. No disrespect, but I'd much prefer a staff with year's of knowledge than a young mechanic with clean fingernails. I have a 60-year-old car, and this was the right place to take it. That being said I am more than confident they can handle the modern machines they now call cars as well. I am a mechanically inclined person myself, but was in a bind with this issue and they stepped up. Was getting my oil changed at a Jiffy Lube ( not a good experience ) and as they were finished while still in the service bay my truck would not start so they had to bring one of their own vehicles around to jump it and advised me not to turn it off . So I'm driving South on 7th Street wondering what I do next when I saw Simon and Sons Auto Repair on the corner at Osborn . I pulled in thinking they were probably too busy and was met by Tony the owner who for NO CHARGE did a meter check on my battery which showed needed replaced . He quoted me a very fair price , replaced with a new battery and performed a diagnostic check to make sure everything was ok . I don't write reviews ever but was so impressed by the Friendly Service and Fair pricing I had to write this review . My future service , repairs and oil changes will be with them . Took my car in for new front brakes.... Had to take it back 3x for adjustments, 3rd time the guy who test drive it curb checked it and it cut in my tire,..get new tires elsewhere obviously...they said they put new rotors and new brake pads...massive amount of brake dust all over my wheels...but they seemed to be working and I was tired of driving 30 minutes each time costing myself lots of gas $ for their screw ups...now less than a month later, they are making nice crunchy noises...try to contact them no returned call, texted several times to the owner Abe, doesn't bother to respond...so bow I get to sue these idiots all because they couldn't do brakes? Isn't that one of the standard jobs a mechanic shop should be able to handle? Not these idiots! read more

Took my car in for a new radiator and unfortunately found out that my engine blew its gasket and that I would need a whole new engine. Needless to say I was more than devastated. This was my first car in over 13 years and I had received it from a dear friend who knew I would make payments to her. She was only charging me $1000 for it and told me to not worry if the engine went bad and that she wouldn't expect me to continue making payments to her. While on the phone with Abe I lost all control and couldn't stop crying. Abe the owner was able to calm me down and explain to me that he wasn't going to charge me for anything and tried cheering me up telling me that I would find another car and that it wasn't the end of the world. He told me that he couldn't in good conscience install a new radiator and charge me knowing that the car was a complete LEMON. Although I didn't get my car fixed, I did learn some hard lessons. One of those being that I should have had him check the car out when I first got it instead of waiting so long. On the bright side, now I know I can trust Abe and Matt at Simon & Sons to not just fix something and send me on my way knowing that my car would soon bite the dust anyways. Brought my car in one day due to overheating. They looked at my car and decided it was the thermostats, so I had it replaced for $125. Within a day or 2 the car is overheating again. I bring it back, and they say the fuse which runs a fan in my engine was loose, so that should fix the issue. Day or 2 later my car overheats again, this time I have to have it towed back. They say my radiator is low on water, and they have no idea what is wrong and tell me to drive it and check the water every 2 days. That night my car starts overheating again really bad. I open the hood and discover the radiator cap sitting right under the hood of the car exactly where you would put it if you took the cap off. At this point my car won't even start because it's so hot. I'm almost 100% certain they forgot to put the radiator cap back on, and at this point I'm really worried serious damage has been done to my car. I had my car towed, again, but this time to my regular mechanic. I call and visit the guys at Simon's to tell them how I found the car without the radiator cap. They say it probably blew off. I argue how could I not notice it blowing off, their excuse was my engine is only a v4, not a huge v8. They also say if I opened the hood I should have seen water everywhere with the cap off, which I did not. They were very quick to blame me and get defensive, and eventually said it had to be the head gasket because he had noticed white stuff on the engine. If they thought it was that, why didn't they mention it? My regular mechanic checked and found I had a crack in the radiator, which further disproves the theory that the radiator cap blew, because there wouldn't be enough pressure with a crack. Car runs great now. I would never bring my car back here. 3 tries to get it right and couldn't, and probably nearly caused me to seriously damage my engine, then tried to throw every excuse at me to get out of it. read more
