We always get a couple of rolls: Maple Valley, Salmon Love, and Salmon Skin along with Salmon Don, Sashimi set, and Chicken Katsu. We go to no other place because it doesn't taste as nearly as authentic or fresh. One downside is that they get extremely busy during dinner so the wait can take awhile for sit down and takeout. I only had the chance to try the seaweed salad, chicken karaage (both staples at any good sushi place), and the Superstar roll today, but I'll definitely be back! The superstar gives a nice blend of raw fish on top of the cream cheese and tofu stuffed roll (in my opinion, could do with less cream cheese). Chicken karaage was good too! Not too much breading, really easy to eat. For years I wanted to go to try this place. I had been hesitant to do that because most of the local sushi places in my area were disappointed. Based on the reviews in Yelp, I decided to go on my birthday. Boy, is the place busy or what! We got there around 5pm on a Friday night, it was pretty busy already. By 6:30pm, people have to wait for their seats. We had soft shell crabs and agadashi tofu for our apps. Both were really good. The crab was very crispy and just right. We ordered 3 rolls of sushi. Most of their sushi are fusion style, so you really don't need to dip into soy sauce and just a bit of wasabi will do. I want to point out the toro sushi is really fresh and creamy. I am sensitive to not so fresh seafood. I did not have any issues after this dinner. Good sign right? We wanted to have more sashimi after that, so we decided to order the chirachi. Not only that looks great, but the choices of fishes are also really yummy. This place is very roomy. You could have big party of 6-8 there. The service are excellent. Sumo Sushi was great. I am 12, and my sister is 7. She'll give her thoughts in a minute. This place was nice, we very much enjoyed the vegetable tempura, and we also loved the kids' chicken teriyaki. Our parents got some rolls and tamago and they liked them too. The place was very chill with no wait. Walked in around 2 pm during their lunch hour. Was greeted by everyone behind the sushi counter and also the server who seated us immediately. Store has many seatings and feels inviting. Very good impression so far. Table has a QR code for the menu. However, we noticed that it was difficult to get data signal in here with our phones. My whole family have T-Mobile but different phones of course, and none of them could get the data in here to work faster. It took a few minutes until we finally got the menu up to view. The server did put a small lunch menu on our table which listed that "Any Roll" are 2 for $20. So we asked her for some clarifications and she explained all Sumo Special Rolls on the second page of the main menu qualifies for the 2 for $20. What a deal because some of these special rolls are $12-$18 a roll. We decided on Black Widow, Killer Shrimp, Caterpillar, Medusa, Sumo Delight, and Sumo Maki. I have to say the first 3 rolls were my favorite. The Black Widow was basically a spider roll but with a seared white tuna on top making it a little more special. Killer shrimp and Caterpillar were refreshing with the avocado of course. I'm not so sure about the Sumo Delight which had too much wasabi stuffed into there that, that was all we tasted. The roll is listed as having a tempura eel on top but I couldn't taste anything that seems like an eel. Sumo Maki and Medusa were passable nothing phenomenal. Both tasted a bit mushy. We will probably come back to try their other rolls and dishes. Prices during lunch are very reasonable and servers are all friendly and attentive. read more

This review is unfortunate. We have been coming here since moving to Maple Valley 8 years ago. We don't hold back when we eat sushi, but the price has always been worth it here. Not tonight. We got the same rolls we always do and they were half the size they usually are. HALF! The Sounders roll had no onions on top and all the rolls were so poorly made that they fell apart when you picked them up. We spent $200 and left hungry. Unacceptable. The service was also horrible. Never got our waters refilled, never offered another round of drinks. We asked for napkins, more wasabi and ginger...never arrived. Maple Valley doesn't have much, but we've always been grateful to have good sushi - I fear that is no longer the case. If the quality continues down this path, we would be better off going into Seattle! read more

Was running errands with my friend when she asked me to search up places to eat around the area. Sumo popped up and we decided to go here. The girls working here are super sweet! They were so pleasant to interact with the whole time we were here. We ordered a bunch of dishes and shared everything. Calamari legs, ika salad, soft shell crab, spicy and spicy roll, the black widow roll, and the heart attack roll. I had debate on ordering some nigiri but we ended up being so full for lunch we didn't even eat all the rolls we ordered hahaha. Everything was delicious! The calamari legs were a lot larger in size than we were both use too and soooo good. I really like the black widow roll as like everyone else on Yelp. I was glad the rolls weren't drenched in sauce like most places. Anyways we'll be back. I'm surprised I haven't put in a review for Sumo Sushi! This is our go-to Friday night sushi place. Friendly staff and the food is good! My husband sticks to the sashimi dinners-always beautifully presented-always fresh and tasty. I like to try different things depending on my mood but we always order the calamari (legs). Crispy, lightly battered and full of flavor. My go to roll is the seared scallop roll mainly because I love that flamed taste-the combinations work so well here. The 3 amigos roll is also a regular order for me-the flavors are simple and fresh a good compliment to any other roll you get. I've also tried their bento box and stir fried udon.
