Really amazing sushi! My sister took me there as it is here go to sushi spot. My sister knows great sushi having lived in Japan for over a decade. We got the 20$ bento box to go which was very filling. I always judge my sushi places on the freshness of the fish, especially the salmon. The salmon had that buttery flavor that just melts in your mouth-doesn't even taste like fish. I have been to many sushi places and have only run into a handful of places with sushi this good. The dressing for the salad was unique-hard to describe it-maybe it was a coconut dressing. The miso soup was miso soup. The price was reasonable as well. They do enforce the vaccination card or negative covid test-so bring your card, otherwise you will be stuck getting it to go like me. read more

We came here in the evening. It's a good place to eat when you are craving sushi. The food was not bad. But it was very dirty. I don't know if it was because they had less people for serving or since it was end of the day so they didn't bother cleaning but, there was food all over the floor. The tables also felt sticky. I don't know what's happened here. We discovered this place a little over two years ago when we first moved here, and while expensive, we chalked it up to being in Maple Valley, and like most other-than-fast-food-and-pizza places here, a little pretentious and full of itself. That said the food was exceptional and the portions/size of the rolls were proportionate to the prices. The last two times we've eaten here have seemed like epicurean satire. Like "is this a joke?" Now it's not just "expensive" , it's an overpriced, entitled insult. Look, it was almost 6 months between two visits. That's an unsustainable business model. Eventually it's going to catch up to you. Even with the most loyal of fans. If you're thinking of opening a decent Sushi place in the Maple Valley/Black Diamond area, Sumo has apparently phoned it in and paved the way for you. Just let me know here when you do. I'd eat Sushi in Maple Valley at least once a week...if I could afford it. Or at least justify the price. read more

Best gyu-don I've ever had. Who knew this Mill Valley sushi joint would be so good?! Gyudon was fragrant, with braised sweet onions and beef broth flavoring the rice. Boyfriend enjoyed his chicken katsu donburi, which was savory and quite nice. Seaweed salad is a favorite of mine and this was excellent as well. Stopped by for a quick dinner and was seated at the sushi bar, no wait. Sushi chefs know what they're doing, friendly staff, fast service and reasonable prices make this place a no-brainer. read more

Decent Sushi joint in Maple Valley. I ordered the Tiger Special & it was ok. The Tempura combo on the other hand was a bit saggy & lack flavor. However I was thankful for the customer service from ordering the food over the phone to picking up my order. I always love to support local mom n pop joints but if Sumo is to compete with other Sushi place nearby they would definitely need to be consistent in putting out fresh sushi & having food out with pick up timing as we know the longer is out the quality of the food won't hold thru. I may try it again & see if ordering during lunch affects the quality of food. Overall not bad Sushi for MV standards. read more

I used to frequent Sumo with limited local choices until Tonight. I called in an order for pick up at 4:30 and was told to be there at 5:40. I paid the $95 and was told that they were finishing up my last two rolls and it would be 10 minutes and to wait in the car. I waited 45 minutes and walked back in to check to find out they didn't have my order at all and couldn't give me a reason. I was given a light apology and refund. When I asked them what my time was worth and what my kids and I should do for dinner I was told by Jessica, manager , "well we gave you a refund". I got silence when I asked what my time should be worth and maybe they should offer me my same meal tomorrow at no cost. I can forgive mistakes but not lies and bad service. I'll drive to Miyabi on south center next time where they have great sushi and service. read more

Tremendous turnaround for a local restaurant that seemed to cave during Covid. Food is consistently tasty, menu has enough to please just about anyone and most importantly, the help is all about making us smile. A bit spendy but worth the extra! Decent sushi, prices are high for what you get. Majority of the rolls are California with fish on top. We did get bad fish once during the shutdown but chalked it up to a fluke. They had new ownership and they are friendly. read more

A small hidden restaurant with delicious and fresh sushi and sashimi. My husband and I really enjoyed our dinner. We were really surprise for a small and very humble looking japanese restaurant, everything tasted soo good. Tbh, it's way better than those swanky japanese restaurants me and my husband eat at in Bellevue. Staff were all very nice and welcoming. Amazing service. Served us water immediately. Order was taken in a decent amount of time, food came very fast! But The food. The food is what's going to make us come back here!!! All praises for this restaurant! My husband and I decided to try Sumo Sushi last night, and boy is it wonderful! Atmosphere in restaurant is relaxing, clean and pleasant. Service was excellent and very friendly. They are OK. A few times their Sushi wasn't really good, or fresh. If you want a quick bite then they are alright.

Was greeted and seated quickly, brought additional menu, and was old our server would be ----. Waited 30 min with no one bringing us water or acknowledging we existed. I wanted to leave but my party mates insisted on staying. So after 30 mins we got our order placed and water. I'll update after food arrives and see if they deserve more than a one star. Food came quickly, which is good after the 30 min wait. Food was tasty and I might consider trying again in the future. read more

Family's favorite place to go in the area! Wonderful food and reasonable prices. Sumo Sushi is my family's go to for dinner get togethers. The staff is friendly and attentive. We always get the sushi boat to share and it ends up being way to much for 6 people. The fish is always good never poor quality. They have a great assortment of sushi, sashimi, and other foods for people who are not into the fish. Everyone gets to be happy. Went here for my niece's birthday for the first time and I have been going back as much as I could! This place is great and customer service is just as awesome! They are a small place, but the servings are huge. We couldn't get over the size of their bentos and were just as delighted at the size of their sushi rolls. But the best for me is their tempura batter! I LOVED the tempura and the calamari the most! But the seaweed and cucumber salad was also one of the best I've ever tasted. Heard good things about their sushi/sashimi. So we planned on ordering only raw fish sushi. Until the server showed us the lunch special for half priced rolls. Well then we ordered 2 rolls, seared scallop roll and ultra albacore roll. Sushi was very fresh with a good sized portion fish. The rolls were delish too. We were very happy until we got the bill. We didn't receive half off for our rolls. The server said its because we ordered the FULL size rolls. WTH she showed us the menu why wouldn't we order the lunch special rolls. Which btw says half roll when the prices are half off the regular. Very confusing. I told her she should have asked which size rolls we wanted to clarify. Either way my g/f and I spent $50 each for lunch. And oh and we had half a roll of each to take home. 3 stars because of the mishap and no apology. read more
