#7 and appetizer AC #2
Auburn Trojans R.

Wife sunning in Mexico and dieing for a good meal. Chinese sounded great and knew just the place! Golden Phoenix!!! Food is always great. I opted for a #7 Chicken Chow Mein, pork fried rice, sweet n sour chicken, and won ton soup. I added an appetizer #2 Bbq pork( theirs is different than most- glazed strips) Chicken Fingers and egg rolls. Look for yourself! Glad I didn't buy the Chinese at Safeway!

Food was okay. Ambience - it was dark and cold in there. Not sure if they are trying to conserve energy or what but that is the vibe I got. Or their heater was broken since they have space heater out. Service was kind of slow since there were only 2 people in there not sure if the server was also the cook.

The food was not bad. But for 20 bucks they could do better than two little wings and two little shrimp. Cheap skates.

Shrimp chow fun

This is my second order from here. The 1st time I ordered: walnut shrimp-great vegetable chow fun-also good wontons with chili garlic sauce-a little much so I wouldn't recommend Overall enjoyed the meal so decided to order again. This time went with the shrimp chow fun which as you can tell from my photo was bland looking and the flavor matched. It was just noodles with onions and possibly some bean sprouts and the small shrimp. On the fence whether I will return.

This is the old traditional Chinese food. Not many places like this anymore. We recommend it!

Just went by Golden Phoenix for lunch. Looks like they are out of business. 11:40 and lights are off and no one is there.

Food was really salty and had no flavor. We will not go back. The only good dish was the fried rice.

The veggies are fresh and the sauces really do help the flavor. Take advice from some of the sauce combo recipes they have on the boards. You fill up your bowl, hand it to the very nice assistant, they add your meat of choice and cook it on the flat iron. It becomes ready to pick up in about 10min. They ask you if you want a portion of rice too (free). They have great finishing sauces as well. Even the biggest eaters in my family can't finish their first plate so buying All You Can Eat isn't the best choice in my opinion. I will never get AYCE again. (Probably a $5 price difference.) If you buy the large instead of AYCE you can at least take your leftovers home. You cannot take ANY leftovers home if you buy AYCE. I think you get a free drink with a large order too. To not waste food...and if I was the owner/manager I'd make a rule that if you bought AYCE but still only got one bowl/plate of food then you can take your leftovers home. Or maybe charge $5 for a to-go box but you can only buy one additional to-go box with every AYCE purchase. Seeing all the food go to waste made me sad.

If you are a local to the area then you know San Wok Express really was the best chinese in town…read more With friendly owners, the happy and giddy welcome and goodbyes as you come and go. That is no more. Sadly after going back recently I realized these are new owners and no longer the San Wok we are used to. Food was decent, but I could tell the difference especially with the orange chicken which was always a hit. Food overall is good for chinese, but doesn't wow me like before. New improvements inside, the restaurant now has dine in, and new decor, but prices have an increased, and ultimately just feels like another chinese restaurant in the area.

I started coming here about 15 years ago. At the time it was called Rice Garden, if I recall. The…read morefood was tasty and the guy that ran the place, we knew from the Golden Phoenix restaurants. I think he was either a nephew or son in law. He sold the place to the previous owner who rebranded as Sans Wok Express. When the place opened the flavor, price and portion were all unbelievable and unbeatable. For years this was the case, then the price would go up about 10% at least twice a year, then the portions got smaller and post covid, the flavor also suffered like they were cutting corners. They would skimp on sauces and dishes that were generous with protein because heavy with vegetables, so instead of Mongolian Beef, it was Mongolian Onion. Really nice people, but after my last visit, I said I most likely wouldn't be back because it just wasn't worth the money. Ironically, I gave them another chance today and was surprised. When I pulled into the lot I knew something was different as I saw someone sitting inside and the place had been takeout only since Covid. The décor was also modern and warm and when I didn't see the original chef or server, I assumed there was a new owner. The menu was exactly the same, but it was a new owner and she told me she had owned the place since New Years Day. So, it's obviously been more than a year since I decided not to come back. I had the Mongolian Beef and it was pretty good. I'm sure you would love it, but I actually like mine sugar free. That said, it wasn't as sweet as most places, so respect to the chef. The lunch combo was entree, rice and soup. No more spring roll. The hot and sour was ok, but it wasn't thickened and lacked chicken stock. The new owner is really nice and I'm hoping the business comes back. This place used to always be nearly full. I think after 4-5 years of take out only, people stopped coming here. Take out is great, but I prefer dine in. It hotter, fresher and I don't have any trash. Again, when you keep the same name as the previous business, there is no flag to the community that you changed the recipes and possibly have a better menu. Either way, come back, I think you'll be pleased.
