Rough start as I stood at the 'wait to be seated' sign longer than I should have had to. The hostess was doing everything except seating people. Sigh. We grabbed an Impossible Burger and fries here during a layover, and honestly? I was impressed. The burger came out hot and fast, perfectly cooked, with that just-off-the-grill flavor you don't expect at an airport. The fries though... eh. They were hot but plain and boring -- and if you don't eat them immediately, forget it. Within a minute the steam builds up in the paper container and they turn soggy. No lie. I tried the apple oatmeal cookie, and it wasn't quite as good as the one at the Walt Disney Springs location. My favorite cookie there is the peanut butter one with the almost Reese's-like center -- absolutely incredible if you ever get the chance. They don't serve the French vanilla lattes at this O'Hare spot, which is a bummer. I usually order mine "not too sweet" -- I know, ironic after a giant cookie -- but I portion those cookies out into 4-6 pieces and freeze them at home so I don't go overboard. Sadly, this location only has plain coffee. That said, the service was super friendly and fast. They even pointed me toward Starbucks around the corner for a latte (which, sorry, I hate Starbucks -- ugh). Overall: if you're stuck at the airport, it's a solid stop. Airport food places always get a really bad rap for some reason. Honestly I usually love airports and haven't ever had a super terrible meal at any airport. Summer House was definitely a 5 star for me. I was walking towards my gate and noticed this bright spot with beachy vibes, so I stopped to look at the breakfast menu. I saw some healthier sounding options, so I ordered the spinach and kale omelet that comes with toast and crispy hash browns. My order came out quickly (within 10 minutes), I was asked if I needed a bag to carry it with me, and I grabbed some butter and hot sauce that were conveniently located right at the pickup area. There is a nice amount of seating right at Summer House so I found a spot and dug in. The omelet was honestly really good - super hot and fresh, and the eggs were fluffy and not overcooked. I didn't notice a ton of cheese, but it did have cheddar and spinach. I appreciated that the hash browns were actually crispy and nicely seasoned. The toast was multi grain and tasty, and the butter cup was the perfect amount for me (a lot, because I love butter a lot). I'm really happy with this spot and would definitely stop by again. Located in the main hall of Terminal 2 in O'Hare, this restaurant was pretty busy. With a very long layover, I did not let that deter me, but the wait wasn't too bad anyway. You can choose to either dine in with table service or order at the counter to take away. I sat at the bar because I was trying to prolong the experience to kill time, but the food comes in disposable packaging either way, so unless you want a drink or just really want a table there, I would recommend ordering at the counter to get in and out faster and avoid having to tip a waiter. I had a virgin jalapeño business paloma, the baja fish tacos, and an apple oatmeal cookie. The virgin paloma wasn't super strong, but that was fine with me and not unexpected when ordering an off-menu virgin version of a cocktail, I just thought it sounded refreshing, and it was. I thought the fish tacos were really good. The fish was tastefully seasoned, the toppings and tortillas were fresh, and I really liked the salsa. I enjoyed the cookie too, really nice texture and not too sweet. All the cookies were huge! I ate half and am taking the rest home. The bartender was nice and it seemed like there was a good vibe among the staff. It was a pleasant experience. The meal came out to $30. For an airport restaurant - they definitely met our needs for food - where we have some folks with specific dietary needs...no dairy, no gluten, low carb etc. And the service was great!! They opened promptly at 7am per the sign, even before that time, we could see they were busy prepping in the kitchen. They seemed very organized and planful, which ended up translating to a great experience for us. I only wanted hasbrowns, which were different - served as a cube, but they were perfectly tender and crispy, not greasy and great flavor. I loved mine. Colleagues ordered eggs and bacon - they were very clear that they could accommodate a strict no butter request. She didn't get sick, so they definitely delivered on that promise. My other colleague was able to substitute more eggs instead of carb - slight up charge, but not egregious. I forgot the O'hare airport had a location and was super excited to bring some cookies back to my husband. I noticed the food is retrieved from the counter by the waitress for full service, so it's the exact same food. All food arrives in a cardboard takeout box, regardless of type of service. There was one waitress to cover the small dine-in area. She was not the friendliest, but service was efficient and sufficient. Plastic cutlery, salt & pepper are in paper packets, as is the ketchup. Water is served in plastic cups, and only on request. I need to eat gluten free, and there is no gluten free menu. I am not celiac so I just ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and removed the bun. It was delicious! Fries are good too. My daughter's burger looked good as well. Being in an airport, it wasn't particularly clean or quiet. But it was nice to sit down and kill some time. Well, my mistake, as, in hindsight, the food on board the airplane would have been the better bet. I ordered a Cobb salad that came to me clearly pre-assembled in a factory kitchen. Whoever put it together didn't care much what was going in the container: frostbitten lettuce, dried out corn kernels, under-ripe tomatoes and soggy avocado. I ate as much of the chicken breast and hard-boiled egg as I could and then gave up on the rest. Had I had more time before boarding, I'd definitely have said something; instead I was left taking the L (no, not that one) on a $20 salad. Woof. Service was abrupt. Could do with a bit more frequent check of the empty tables to make sure new patrons have a place to sit and eat. Lots of them had trash and food on them. All in all, as with any licensee, your mileage will vary. If I owned Summer House, I'd be pretty embarrassed by the state of this location. read more

My husband snarfed the fries, but I just focused on that big ole double cheeseburger (yes, that's the basic one). Paid our check fairly quickly and had plenty of time to catch our flight. The food was okay for airport food (hash browns were a highlight), but one of the staff was very rude. I waited for a few minutes to be seated to dine in, but when no one assisted me, the cashier kindly told me I could order with her instead and sit wherever I wanted. After I ordered and was waiting for my food, another employee came and yelled at me that I could not be sitting in that seat because I ordered to go. Still some time to spare so let's go have breakfast. Summer House is close. Decent Yelp reviews, so okay, let's give it a try. After checking out the menu we pick kale and spinach omelet, ham and cheese omelette and a breakfast sandwich. For drinks two orange juices and tomato juice. Our server delivers our food. Everything is fine...not mind blowing but okay. When we've finished our meal she drops off the bill and it's weird. She rings up two kale and spinach omelets with 'do not make' with the second one, and all of the other stuff we ordered. As a former server, my hackles are up. I hate to say it, but if she made a mistake and rang up two omelets she'd immediately remove one, right? So after we ate and asked for the bill, my colleague is looking it over (you know the server thought since we were on an expense report we'd just hand her a card) and my colleague said hmmm, that's weird. And immediately the server showed up and said 'I'm so sorry, I need to remove the extra omelet but I forgot'. She disappeared for a bit and brought back the corrected bill. As a Cape Cod, Massachusetts native, I chose this restaurant for my monthly date night with my husband of 35 years because of the lovely photos on their website. While the decor, lighting and upbeat background music were just beautiful, it was our server, Stacie, who made the experience extraordinarily memorable. From the moment she greeted us at our table until the check was paid, she was attentive, exquisitely mannered, impeccably informed about all things food and beverage and, above all, did everything with a smile on her face. In today's world, it is rare to find someone who appears to really enjoy their job but this was our lucky night to experience just that. When we landed in this airport we originally wanted to get Chicago dogs but didn't like the look of the establishment that was serving them. We found this which happened to be closer to our terminal. I was actually pretty grateful to find a salad because I knew I would be eating a lot unhealthy foods for the next week. The salad was great, huge and super filling. I didn't even add extra protein. His burger was also really good. The cashier was friendly and helpful. We went and sat a table and waited for our buzzer to go off. I saw this place had a lot of negative reviews and I think people just want to be negative. I mean, duh, you're going to pay more money for food at an airport. I thought this was really good quality also. We did see a girl that was very rude, sat at a table without ordering, complained to the server that she waited near the seating area for 10 minutes and was ignored. So she sat herself. The lady brought her a menu and some free water. The girl sat for a few minutes and left. Anyway, she didn't wait more than 5 minutes, was actually less, she lied. While traveling to Chicago, I was again faced with the usual challenge - finding good or decent food at the airport. I spotted a lovely looking place with a lovely name. They had good amount of seating for an airport, and decorated nicely with hanging plants, wooden ceiling, and lights hanging from the ceilings. It was a nice little oasis in the busy Chicago airport. I ordered some breakfast, and a cookie called "Crispy Chocolate Chip" cookie. It had squared of rice crispie treats on it, and I love rice crispie treats, so it was no brainer. And let me tell you, it was HUGE! It was so big that I kind of got nearly full with it. Well, with that much sugar, I can see I would be full with it. It was good, a bit too sweet, maybe really too sweet...it gave me a sugar rush and woke me up. LOL. Then the food was ready, so I went to the counter to pick them up. I ordered The Original Morning Sandwich and Crispy Hashbrowns. I was excited for hashbrown, as I always liked hashbrown. When I saw their square hashbrown in a box, I was a bit sad, and it had no flavor... Sandwich was pretty good, especially compared to the hashbrown. The chicken sausage had pretty good flavor. It was really big too, since I was kind of full with the huge cookie, this sandwich was too much for me to finish. As I was eating the sandwich, I noticed oil collected on the bottom of the box for both hashbrown and sandwich. So I guess they are not very healthy... The staff there was ok, polite enough but not overly friendly. The overall experience was...well, just a-ok. I liked the cookie, but again, it was a bit too sweet.
