    Minestrone

Tuscany Cafe in Terminal 1 is excellent for an airport restaurant. I ordered the delicious, old-fashioned minestrone and the lovely, grilled pollo con zucchini with a balsamic glaze. Light and flavorful--perfect before a flight. Portion-wise, the chicken was a lot of food! I couldn't finish. And the service was quick and personal--we loved our waiter, Constantine, who had so much character and sense of fun yet was serious about describing the food.

Very pleasantly surprised by the food here, tucked away in ORD airport next to gate B12, all the way down the hall. If I was not looking for this, I could've easily missed it! I was traveling solo, so I wanted to grab a seat at the bar however it was completely full! This was lunch hour at 12pm, I had about an hour layover. So I grabbed a table instead. There were many seats at the table and many of them were free. Of the joys of solo work travel. I immediately knew what I wanted, the eggplant parm. My food arrived in about 10 mins or so, not too long of a wait. My dish was served hot, and a delightful little side of homemade pasta! Yes you heard it, homemade pasta! I can tell the difference between box vs homemade. There is a consistency to homemade that I love and just brings me back to Italy. The eggplant was tender and I can still see huge slices, not really breaded at all, which I was glad to see. But I did have to scrap off the huge layer of cheese on top. I know many people would call me crazy for scraping off the cheese, but it was just too much! Also service was attentive. Overall pleasantly surprised and would certainly return.

Great service, you get your food fast and it comes out nice and warm. The ambiance is nice along with cleanliness. I believe it was the owner/manager who came to talk to me he was very knowledgeable about the menu. He seems very passionate about his job which is really nice to see. He recommended the sea food bisc soup- it's yummy along with the salmon Caesar salad

I sat at the bar. The wine was perfect. The bar tender was amazing. And the food was perfect too. This was a lovely stop at the airport between planes. I would absolutely stop here again, given a long enough stop. The restaurant was also packed with happy people - a good sign.

Italian sausage entree. Very tasty. Would order again

And…read moreI also knew I wanted to go to a Lou Malnati's location, since that's the chain I'd heard about the most. We showed up without a reservation on a very busy evening, so it was almost an hour of waiting before we were shown to spots at the bar, which suited me just fine because I'm always okay to sit at the bar. I felt like a cocktail and the Chicago-Style Bloody Mary ("Tito's Handmade Vodka, house tomato mix, pearl onion, tomato, Sport Pepper, pickle spear, celery salt rim") sounded quite tasty. And indeed it was. The balance of flavors was nicely done and the alcohol level was perfect. (I should also mention I'd been waiting for my chance to try the infamous Malort liquor, so when I spotted it on the shelf, I asked our super friendly and helpful bartender for a shot. She gave me a little smirk when I asked for it, which I thought was amusing, and then offered up a generous pour. It was...interesting. I'm glad I tried it but it's not something I need to ever drink again.) The star attraction, of course, was the deep dish. We opted for the Malnati Chicago Classic ("Made with Lou's lean sausage, some extra mozzarella cheese and vine-ripened tomato sauce on Buttercrust") and it was phenomenal. It was so cheesy and delicious, and that sausage was top-notch. I enjoyed the heck out of it, and I can safely say it even exceeded my already-high expectations. I'm so glad we hung around for Lou Malnati's. It was totally worth the wait.

Los Angeles I had Gjelina in Venice Beach and Pizzeria Sei in West Los Angeles and (again) both were excellent. Chicago this year I've had Dimi Dimi in Lincoln Park and tonight Pizz'Amici in Fulton Market and both outstanding. But if I had to pick a winner (so far) my 2026 champion is a tie: Both Chicago joints were crushing this wood fire favorite hands down. Pizz'Amici is this small, crowded, loud and incredibly popular parlor making some of the best pies around. There cracker thin, old school pizzas are sublime. We ordered their 14" pizza with onions and sausage and we enjoyed the hell out of this pie. It was flavorful and snappy! The staff here were at the ready for any thing you needed - pronto. I've been "around the block" a few times and I know when some foods are special. Tonight Pizz'Amici got my attention big time and it's way up on my "Go To" list, which is pretty damn exclusive list!

The onion rings, though, were absolutely fantastic. Service was top notch, and we were so well taken care of. I honestly can't imagine how they handled so many customers that night--kudos to the team. And the bathrooms were super clean, which I always appreciate. I'd definitely go back for a pint and to watch the game.

The location is also excellent. I love dining on the patio when the weather is nice and enjoying that Chicago River view. Note when dining in on the patio that it can get pretty crowded with a long wait time. Takeout has always been speedy! It was maybe a 15 minute walk from our hotel which isn't anything at all but it is by the water so it's pretty cold. When we arrived we were able to get seats without reservations which was nice. Between 6 girls we order calamari and meatballs to share along with the Cali Itali pizza and Carne. Umm the food was so delicious, the meatballs had so much flavor and really huge definitely a good little share. Then the calamari was perfect, not oily and super crunchy, I haven't had good calamari in forever so this hit the spot. Our pizzas were perfect, the dough had good flavor and the toppings were just the right amount. It's not Chicago's tavern style or deep dish but this was by far the best pizza we had all trip. Note, the bathroom is down a spooky hall but it was really nice. The people here were so friendly and the food is superb. I bet during Summertime this place is just beautiful to eat outside! The decor is very fun, patterned, and glitzy. Our server was super kind and attentive -- wish I remembered her name! We got a wide variety of menu items, but the stand outs for me were the meatballs, mozzarella sticks (some of the best I've ever had!!!), kale cesar salad, radiatore alla vodka pasta, tiramisu, and brown butter cake. The pizzas we ordered were all good, but I wished we tried the other style crust as I think I would've liked it more than tavern style. Wished the ricotta gnocchi, while it had a great texture, had more of a basil flavor. The green river sodas were a fun touch, as I don't see that often in the city!!! Definitely a great spot for a group outing such as a birthday, or a casual dinner. Would love to try lunch here, as well as the cocktail menu. Can't wait to come back!!!
