We read a review recently of this place and was in the area, took the opportunity to try it out. I have Gluten and Dairy Allergies, we told the owner, he notified of all the ingredients in the dishes I was interested in and my husbands meal. Highly recommend this place, The smells of what's cooking in the kitchen, is beyond amazing, the food is so good you want to have more. I had the moroccan tea and the kebab with rice and the garlic sauce so the flavors of the spices were so fresh and amazing . We will be here again. A ten on a 5 scale! THE most amazing food! Incredible borscht! Every dish the 3 of us got was fantastic. Crepes, beef with rice, lamb chops were all terrific. Tried Jerusalem tea and cardamom tea, both different and interesting.. Owner spent lots of time explaining the food options, discussing cooking methods, etc. I live just down the road in Bedford, don't know how I missed this gem but am greatly looking forward to frequenting this tasty jewel of a restaurant. Stopped in and there was one family in there besides us. We ordered a baba ganouj appetizer and it took forever for that and our food to come out. The food was average at best. The bill included an $8 service charge, plus charges for the Pita Bread that accompanied the baba ganouj. The credit card machine didn't work so we ended up pooling $100 for this overcharged meal. I'll never go there again in my entire life. I hate chains - but I also hate dishonesty. read more

I've been coming through Breezewood for decades and it's a classic tourist trap with basic fast food only. Now there is a from scratch exception--Sultan. Food is great and a unique mix of Middle Eastern and Ukrainian. Decor is nothing fancy but it's clean and service is good and friendly. The food is great. Nice vegetarian options. I enjoyed the falafel shawarma sandwich and the harira soup (tomato lentil) was a bit cool but fantastic flavors. Moroccan tea (green tea plus mint) was lovely too. I live in Bedford and when I don't want to cook, and I'm staying in the area, this is my go-to place for dinner. I have gotten to know the owner, Moe and his wife and staff through coming here often. The food is authentic, delicious and completely scratch made. Nothing they server is microwaved or retail packaged. It's completely normal for them to go out of their way to make your meal extra memorable with some site made hummus or moroccan tea with honey. My favorite meal is the Shish Taouk Over Rice, but the Chicken Shawarma and Beef kabobs, Taboulleh, Borsch and Fattoush are all delicious as well. This place is a rare gem in these parts! read more

Skip the fast food joints and make the time to eat at Sultan! This was our second visit en route to further destinations and it's worth slowing down and enjoying the house made food. We had a chicken shawarma sandwich, falafel meal, and kabob (ground beef and lamb) sandwich. I've had falafel up and down the east coast and this is among the best I've ever had. I had to defend my meal against thieving children who kept trying to sneak more bites. It also came with a huge portion of hummus and a round of soft pita that might have been made in-house. The chicken shawarma and kabob sandwiches were deliciously spiced and came with a selection of pickled items and tomatoes to dress it up. The wrap was more like a tortilla than a thick pita but still very good. They slice the generously sized sandwiches into pieces, which is great for sharing. Baklava was too sweet for our liking. But if they offer you a complimentary treat with your meal that looks like pieces of flatbread crisps glazed with honey, definitely accept with a smile. Those fried sails of sweetness were addictive. This place will cost more time and money than the other options in Breezewood but it's also far and away the best meal in town. read more

We'll now look forward to traveling through Breezewood! The food was fresh, absolutely delicious, and was served with generous servings. The service was fantastic- the staff recommended meals suited to our taste, and packaged up our meal for the road since we couldn't eat inside (traveling with our dogs). Really delicious food. What a find in Breezewood! Folks were also really nice. We arrived 25 minutes to closing time, and they were very gracious about having us stay and not be rushed. We of course worked to make it as snappy as possible, but not because of pressure. Chicken shawarma seemed to have some cinnamon in it. Super yummy! My daughter had the salmon. It was a huge piece and cooked really well. We'll be back on our way home from our trip. read more

The Food is incredible, we were driving by and Sultan popped up on Yelp, so glad we stopped by. We got a large sample platter, called the Grill Gourmets, to share between 3 but easily could have shared with an additional adult. We were on a road trip and stopped for lunch, after seeing this place as an alternative to a service plaza on the Pennsylvania turnpike. It could be cleaner but it is fine. The server was very kind and friendly. We ordered a vegetable and rice plate, with pita bread as a side. We were served a tortilla, a whole raw onion, and a few undercooked vegetables. Since no rice was brought to the table, we had to order it separately. When we asked for check, we were told to pay up front without seeing itemized receipt. read more

You can judge a book by its cover. We stopped here because we love kabobs, and road trip meals usually consist of chain fast food. We thought this restaurant would be a nice change of pace. There are plenty of delicious 'hole in the wall' restaurants. This ain't one of them. Building run down, with shabby booths and tables. Glacially slow service. Over 45 min to get a soup and mixed grill. The restaurant was not busy--plenty of open tables, so maybe just short staffed? Food came out cold, which is odd because we saw the food come out of a microwave. Meat overcooked on dirty dishes. Taste was bland. Best thing was the bottled water (they wouldn't serve tap water), but even that took about 30 min to be served. Very disappointing. read more

Finally some good food that has come to Breezewood! Usually we stop at Breezewood to fill up the car, go to the bathroom, and leave as soon as possible. Going to Sultan's today has changed that! The chicken shawarma was delicious and talking to the owners was delightful. We will be stopping here every single time we come through and will be telling all of our friends and family to do so as well. Driving cross-country, making the transition between I76 and I70... Strange intersection - you have to get off of one highway, drive about 2 miles on city streets, and then get on the other highway. Must have been some heavy lobbying from local businesses... Anyway - seemed like a good place to stop for the night. Sultan was right next to our hotel, and seemed like a better option than all of the fast food in the area. No one in the restaurant when i got there - the owners were cutting up lamb in the kitchen. Nice to see that everything was fresh. We ended up getting a Cesar salad, the falafel sandwich and the mixed grill, plus baklava for dessert. All were excellent! All of the kabobs on the mixed grill plate were really tasty, especially the chicken which was really tender. The mixed grill was served with rice, which by itself was wonderful. I didn't get to taste the falafel - my wife ate it all! Salads were great too! Everything was excellent - well worth the stop, and well worth avoiding the chains for some quality food. read more

I almost never review, but this was worth taking the time because it straight up changed my travel pattern. Amazing food, humble atmosphere, personal service. Hidden gem that is worth even my limited time. Most people wouldn't expect a building in the same lot as a Marathon Gas to have some of the best middle-eastern+ food in PA, but just know it's a classic case of small business owners focused on food over signage. This place is an oasis. Kind of like if I swung by my uncle's place before getting back on the road. They partner with local Amish farmers for the majority of their meat and produce and even honey (Have one of their different international teas or Turkish coffee with your meal and walk away reborn) and they have a humble approach that makes me feel more a welcome guest than just another customer. That said, factor in some time if you're sitting down. I recommend ordering, filling up on gas, then coming back to enjoy the meal (GET THE TEA!!!). Be a good guest, and comment about the dessert because I got too full before I could try the baklava!! Any issues just ask the proprietor because you're a guest and he takes that very seriously (For anyone used to a franchise experience, that kind of intimate environment can be a bit jarring, but really it's as easy as breathing). The food was wonderful. Mix of people obviously passing through like us and locals who know where to get a good meal. I had chicken korma kabobs, served with a yogurt sauce, red onions, pickles, tomatoes and cucumbers. Delicious and yellow rice also done perfectly. The only thing I would change for my own pleasure is that I would soak the onions in ice water for about 10 min to take away their intense bite. My husband had the veggie sandwich and was very happy after a day's drive. The breakfast menu looks great with dishes from around the Mediterranean, Egyptian, Indian and Ukrainian. Amazing!! My husband and I enjoyed our delicious, flavorful, fresh meal on a Friday night. We have a Friday abstinence from meat and our waiter made sure we had great recommendations: a lentil soup, fattoush salad, and chickpeas over rice. The flavors were so delicious. We loved the traditional decor, and the sense of eating at a nice restaurant while right at the travel plaza and also very affordable.
