Peach galette

Sulmona is exceptionally hospitable! First time I called, I asked for a table of 8 and then I needed to update my reservation a few times as our party grew to 16 during a busy graduation season. The inside of the restaurant is gorgeous but we actually like outdoor dining. Their portable fireplaces in the outdoor area kept us warm and gave everyone a beautiful glow that makes everyone look younger and beautiful. We enjoyed our food! Our end of the table had fungi pizza (tasty, thin crust), arancini balls, and linguine alle vongole (fresh, light, and flavorful). Best of all the menu and kitchen are nut-free except for a few dessert items with precautions to limit cross contact. Thank you for a lovely and memorable evening. Our host Michael was an angel and joined in on the fun with us. Best evening ever. Well done and thank you.

Friday afternoon was lightly populated. Started with a cappuccino, which came quickly. Cappuccino was nice on a winter day, hot with good foam proportion. The setting is rustic/industrial, with nice leather and wooden seats and furnishings. Edison bulbs hand from the sealing next to a cute red vespa suspended in the air. We ordered a margarita and fig + prosciutto pizette and a cubano with skinny fries. You can see the large open oven from across the room with the flames flickering and herb bundles dangling from the ceiling. Inspected the bathrooms, for which they have multiple single washrooms for additional privacy. Clean, with white tile and motion sensor sink + toilet. Pizza was next level. Dough was cooked perfectly. Flavors of both pizzettes really complemented each other. Hints of garlic, good cheese proportion, not greasy. The cubano was good but could use something to give it more flavor "pop". Bread was toasted perfectly. Fries were amazing, thin cut with appropriate amount of salt, not too crispy not too soft. Service was great. Would definitely come again

Black truffle burrata

My girlfriend and a few friends and I made a reservation last week for Sulmona, and it was nice! I wasn't the most impressed with the service for the most part. While my girlfriend and I arrived early and were seated promptly while we waited for our friends, it was a bit chilly and we were right next to the window. We asked for the window to please be closed, to which they weren't able to. They also weren't able to move us despite the multiple open tables around us. While we were a bit cold throughout the night, the food (and the rest of the night) really made up for it. We started with the truffle burrata, which was delicious however the portion could have been a bit bigger for four people. We got an array of dishes including pastas, wild boar ragu, chicken parm, and porchetta. We were all really impressed, mostly so with the wild boar ragu- a great option! Our waiter really made sure the service was improved throughout the night. He verified allergies/restrictions at our table and even brought the chain from my friend's bag outside that had fallen off inside the restaurant. Overall a solid option for Italian food in Cambridge!

The restaurant wasn't busy, and there's plenty of space around 5pm. It's spacious and conveniently located near Kendall. It's especially lovely during the summer. The service was good, and I really enjoyed the cacio e pepe bucatini pasta with cheese and a truffle topping. The portion size was perfect, and the noodles were thick, creamy, and cheesy--absolutely delicious! The pizza was great, though the skewers were just okay. Overall, a great spot with a lot to offer!

It's a pretty big space--lots of seating! We came in for brunch and there were plenty of tables. Service was fast and friendly. I shared the tiramisu French toast and smoked salmon eggs benedict with a friend. Both were good, although the French toast was maybe on the drier side. My husband got the porchetta hash, which was tasty but a bit rich--he wasn't able to finish it. My siblings split the mascarpone French toast with a ham omelette. Everything was pretty standard brunch fare, and I can't recall a standout, but the portions were decent. I think their strength is probably dinner, which I haven't tried yet.

Nutella iced coffee w/o vodka

We went on a Tuesday morning as soon as the restaurant opened, and were immediately greeted with great service and a warm atmosphere. Our server was so kind, although I'm failing to remember his name. The food and drinks were 10/10 delicious, and we will definitely be sure to return. Also, we heard that the same owners are in charge of Amelia's down the street, so we might have to go there too!

prosciutto, cheese, bread

We went here for a team outing and for such a fancy restaurant with steep prices in a prime part of Cambridge, I was really disappointed by the service and honestly the food. I was craving some italian and sadly this place did not meet the standard. Now the part I would come back for are the appetizers. There was a meat and cheese platter and the fritto misti that we really enjoyed (it even included fried sardines that were a hit!). We ordered the truffle burrata which tasted nothing like truffle, it felt like one tsp of truffle oil was drizzled on top, but a let down nonetheless. The portion size to the price was not worth it in my opinion. There was probably a half serving of linguine in my clam linguine, with only 6 clams. The lobster ravioli's lobster portion was also severely overcooked, it barely came off the shell! The bread served with the prosciutto was hard as a rock! We also ordered a bottle of wine, which they first forgot to bring and gave us a complimentary glass (nice of them), and then brought back a bottle of warm wine. We had to ask twice for a glass of ice to try and cool it down. There were several times we had to repeatedly ask the waitress for simple things such as silverware or more water that took longer than we anticipated. We expected more from this location and would hesitate to come back for even the vibe!

Spaghetti

Wow, I was pleasantly surprised by what a good lunch I had here! If I could find anything to nitpick, it would just be that the server didn't check in on us as frequently as I would have wanted them to. It took us a while to order and a while to pay the check, because we couldn't find someone to help. First off, Sulmona was decorated for the holidays and it looked so nice indoors. I loved the natural lighting and how open it was. I ordered the spaghetti and a side house salad. The spaghetti portion was small, but the side house salad was huge! Made me wonder how big the actual entree size is. The spaghetti was cooked perfectly al dente (how I like it). And the house salad was delicious as well! Would def recommend this combo for lunch / I would love to come back for dinner next time!

Amazingly fresh draft beer. Great food, great place right opposite the Ragon Institute.

Porchetta Hash
Andy N.

I was in between giving this place 3 or 2 stars, but ultimately decided on 2 because the porchetta hash was awful. The flavors were lackluster, but the worst part was the dish was drowning in excess oil from the pork fat. While fat and oil adds a nice flavor, I had to tip over my skillet to dump out oil that kept on flowing. After the meal, I was left feeling heavy, dirty, and sick. Maybe I got the wrong dish, but their dish left a horrible taste and impression on me. I do want to note that there was nice char and crisp on the pork pieces, but it was tainted by the oil. However, the ambience and service were more than excellent!

We split the mushroom pizza, the warm olives, the octopus, and the burrata. I tend not to express myself using superlatives, but everything was just plain outstanding. Flavorful, spicy olives, melt in your mouth burrata with prosciutto and apple relish, well balanced spicy octopus (chili aioli and Aleppo pepper) with bacon, grapes and either crispy prosciutto or bacon. The pizza was rich but not overly cheesy, and the mushroom mix and sauteed spinach was balanced with chewy crust and a rich olive oil base. We were planning on eating more, but decided to quit while we were ahead and have the chocolate hazelnut cake for dessert. Somehow, the cake was delivered accidentally to the table next to ours, and not only was another piece brought out to us as soon as we let the server know, but they gave us a generous portion of the tiramisu to make up for the mistake. Both desserts were of comparable quality to the rest of the meal, and they disappeared quickly. For the quality and quantity of the food, the meal was an excellent value. It is a little noisy in the room, with music and hard surfaces, but despite that, we were able to talk without raising our voices, and the service was a gracious team effort. The deliciousness of the food offset the background noise - once the food came (extremely quickly), we were so absorbed in eating and savoring it that it faded and was not annoying. Based on this experience, I would consider coming here on my next visit. Keep up the good work.

Two in our party ordered t-bone steaks, which were cooked perfectly as ordered, but the cuts were on the thin side. The seafood mixed grill (one of the nights specials) was extremely disappointing, a ridiculously small portion, and the shrimp and fish were overcooked and dry. The pizza had black truffle pate and prosciutto while the carbonara was typical except for the burrata cream and black truffle pearls on top. The pizza was SPECTACULAR. The crust was perfectly airy and charred. In terms of toppings, everything was well balanced. The truffle flavor was STRONG in the best way ever. I was scared the salty prosciutto combined with it would be overkill but everything came together beautifully. The pasta was creamy and also well balanced. I really enjoyed dipping the bread they included in the leftover sauce. You may eat in, but unfortunately, alcohol is not provided here and you can't BYOB. And so, take out is a popular choice. Now for the real question. What does Shaina order at this venue after a decade? My personal favorite: Puttanesca with homemade fusilli. Why? Because despite living in a region of Greater Boston where Italian restaurants are fruitful, people don't serve Puttanesca! Literally can't find it in the four Italian restaurants near my south shore home. Only other place that I can order this same dish is Vinny's at Night in Somerville. Folks love their fra diavolo, but Puttanesca gives that same heat with the bonus of salty kalamata, capers, and a touch of anchovies melted in. And, guess what? Tasted the same as it had 13 years ago. Amazing! Don't get me wrong, they have many more offerings that I've been dying to try. There's pizza, garlic bread with and without cheese, mini arancini; they have sandwiches, too. They even have four (or maybe it was 5) options for risotto. And for proteins, there is calamari, shrimp, chicken, beef, and sausages. I just can't stop ordering this puttanesca dish and it fills me too much to have room for a variety order.
