A very poor experience. We have $35 per person room credit for breakfast daily. Had to wait 20 mins for a table, the hostes was low energy and not very responsive. Breakfast was served at the Paperback Tavern from 6:30am until 11am (weekends). We were seated at 10:30am and took 10 mins to get a waiter and after placing our order took another 15 mins to get my coffee . The breakfast buffet had not been refreshed since we arrived at least for 45 mins. Service was slow, our waiter was inexperienced and did not refill my coffee until I asked. And they brought out our food and forgot my wife's side of bacon. She was almost done with her meal. Management needs to train staff; and staff accordingly. Not a great experience, we have three more nights here. Good luck to us, could it get any worst? read more

Paperback Tavern is located in Hyatt Regency Boston/Cambridge Hotel. The layout and ambiance of the restaurant/bar is upscale and bougie. The main appeal for me was the art made out of paperback books and the well light dining area. The service for the dinning area (it was late at night 10:45pm) was desolate and hard to find. Once seated and greeted, the service was okay. My partner and I opted to do only desserts. We hade the Blackberry Cheese cake and the Boston Cream Pie. Truly the desserts were sub-par. The cheese cake offered no true flavor beyond the lingering taste of freezer burn. The Boston cream pie... where do I start? The vanilla bean ice cream was the diamond in the goat's butt. The cake portion was dry and dense, the whip cream was over firm and odd, and the chocolate covering was firm and flavorless. read more

Had breakfast in Boston for the first time and it did not disappoint! The view was beautiful, and the staff were super friendly and attentive. My omelet was cooked perfectly, the smoothie and açaí bowl were both so refreshing, and even though a few of the potatoes were a little too crunchy, everything else was delicious. Came in for drinks and was pleasantly surprised to see they had a pretty extensive mocktail menu (5 drinks)! I got a mocktail flight, which is 4 drinks for $12. Only docking one star because I got double charged for one drink, which increased the price about $3 and didn't notice until I got home--make sure you double check your receipts before paying. In order of favorites, I got the Chasing Summer, Pine-or-Faux Colada, Salted Brew, and Noquila Sunrise. The Chasing Summer was delicious--fruity and tasty and super fun. The colada was also great, basically exactly like a pina colada without the alcohol. The salted brew comes with whipped cream on top and is not super sweet itself, but has a chocolatey note and more complex bitter flavor. I normally don't drink coffee but still enjoyed this one. The sunrise was more on the sour side and had a slight smokiness, so I would go for that if you're not as into sweet or bitter drinks. read more

Excellent breakfast here! The view is great. Loved watching the scullers on the river. Seating was fast and my order was taken immediately. I ordered the pancakes. Three big pancakes with bananas, whipped cream, and chocolate shavings. So good! My friend got the American breakfast which looked huge. Right up my alley but I figured it was too much food for me. Outstanding service! My friends were happy with their choices. Unfortunately I got the eggs Benedict. Egg yolks were cooked through and the very thin coating of Hollandaise was hard-cooked too from sitting in the window. Radhika was my waitress , she seemed to be more focused on Caucasian people , and apparently my skin was too dark for her attention, she took my order and never came back, I never got the actual sauce I ordered for simple order of tenders but she wouldn't have known that because she never came back until I gestures to walk out , terrible experience and food was very mid ‍she brought me a bill and asked me how I'd like to pay I clearly said card she never left me a pen to actually pay. My husband ate here twice during our stay at the Hyatt. We ate the first night here since we arrived late and there weren't a lot of other restaurants nearby. We had the burger and fish & chips. Both were really good. The third night we were in Boston, we ate here again. We had the burger, fish & chips, and the boston cream pie sundae. All were really good but the boston cream pie sundae was the star. The reviews were right and I wish we could have it again! As a chef and food service professional, I have to say I was blown away by my experience here this weekend. While attending my annual literary convention in Cambridge my brother and I opted to eat in the hotel restaurant Paperback. What a great choice that turned out to be. The manager Mariella, has to be top three best manager/leaders I've seen in my 20+ years in the biz. Everything we ate was exceptional. Mariella and I had occasion to chat several times as we ate there twice everyday. She runs a tight ship and everything we ate and experienced was above and beyond my expectations. Our party of 2 made reservations for a Friday night at 7:45. The venue stands out because of the view of the Charles River and Boston/Brighton skyline which on a clear night (as this Friday was) is spectacular. The Hyatt is easy to find, and validated parking when dining at the restaurant is free. We just wanted drinks, appetizers, and a quiet place to chat after a long day. We were immediately seated but near a group of about 20--thus the reason for the missing 5th star above. I do realize we could have asked for a different table but I didn't--my bad. The group wasn't rowdy but the conversation level sometimes made it difficult to focus on our own. The rest of the experience was enjoyable. We were seated by a window and thus enjoyed the beautiful view. Our server was prompt and solicitous, although as he was new (his admission) he had to check with the chef on questions about the menu. My companion had a glass of sauvignon blanc and I was in the mood for one of their creative cocktails and settled on a Tory Row--vodka, pomegranate juice, ginger liqueur and honey. Quite tasty and served its purpose. We ordered from the starters menu. We shared the Lobster Roll Flight which was three mini lobster rolls flavored with a cajun kind of spice (not too spicy though). I ordered the Warm Crab and Corn Dip which was tasty and came with some tasty fried pita bread rounds. Overall we had a pleasant experience when we were able to tune out our enthusiastic neighbors. I don't go here often for dinner (more often the outdoor brunch on the patio overlooking the Charles during warm weather) but would go again if in search of a quiet, easy to get to place for drinks and food. read more

Wonderful place inside of a nice hotel. The menu isn't extensive, but there are enough options to satisfy a table. There are small plates and entrees. The tuna tartare wasn't bad - the flavor of the tuna was clear, and it was accompanied with some delectable thickly cut potato chips that balanced out the textures of the fish. The chicken wings were accompanied by a very nice mustard sauce; the wings themselves were a tad too well-done but they were tasty and nicely fried on the outside. The special duck baos (buns) were also quite nice, with soft rice-flour buns wrapped around delicate cilantro and veggies, and a good amount of duck meat inside. The onion rings didn't hold together well, but were crispy, crunchy, extravagant-looking, and flavorful. The fried clams were nice too - perhaps too much batter, but the seafood flavor of the clams came out. Also accompanied by a nice sauce. Entrees: the roast chicken was accompanied by some stewed white beans and kale. There should have been more kale, but I appreciated the cook on the chicken, which was fairly tender, though I might have liked more dark meat rather than 100% white meat. The burger was also decent - it was advertised as a medium, but it came out more as a medium well. The accompanying onions were nicely cut, and the bun was a bit sweet and nicely buttered on the insides. The salad balanced out the proteins of the entrees, though it was doused in a bit too much vinaigrette. The Paperback Tavern is located in the Hyatt Regency Cambridge. There is a large selection of liquor and wines so that is nice. It was a good place for a drink before we got out to see the city. We ordered the warm crab and corn dip with everything crackers. It was really good. My only thing is it's still hotel food at high hotel bar prices. I'm not sure that I'd go here if I lived in the area but it is a nice place for a drink before you start your evening. read more

The service was horrible. Took an over 15 minutes to get an acknowledgement at our table. Then over 10 minutes to get an alcohol beverage. One ordered it took over 30 minutes to get our burgers. This was after 9:30 with only 12 people in the restaurant. I never even knew who our invisible server was. We had three different ones very seldomly checking with us. The small glass of coke for my wife and iced tea was empty and they never asked to refill. These servers had nothing but excuses and rude. read more

We ordered NA beer and server brought wrong one twice Our kids had pasta my daughter did not like the sauce! They did love the fries. The restaurant itself it really nice love the feel we had a great table with a view' We had to go up to ask for our bill our server ignored us and looked away as she talked to friends another server was kind enough to help us. Went here for breakfast just because we were staying at the hotel and did not want to go out in the rain. The restaurant is cute and feels very warm and homey. The seating is very comfortable and the views of the river are great. Food was good. We had the delicious breakfast sandwich that came with tots that were a bit overcooked. The 3 starts I gave were for those two reasons. Now about the service.... Not a single person smiled at us. Our waiter had the look of utter annoyance on his face the 3 times he approached our table. Water didn't hit our glasses until we had finished half of our coffee. Once they brought out our food not once did anyone come up and ask if we needed anything. This is all while there were only 3 other tables with people and I counted 5 servers walking around aimlessly. There was a man in a nice suit (restaurant manager I assume) standing around "monitoring" the staff but instead of making sure they do their jobs and serve their guests he stopped my husband on the way to the restroom about our bill while I remained behind at the table to wait for it ‍ Not sure if this type of "hospitality" is normal for Boston but I have never been served so poorly on the west coast! read more

When you arrive at the hotel tired and hungry, the fried food-heavy menu is just fine. The clam chowder was tasty but delivered barely warm. The reuben sandwich is small and what you might make at home. My elderflower & gin cocktail was pricey and served in the tiniest glass we've ever seen.
