We actually stumbled upon Sullivan's while looking for another restaurant and decided to give it a try. We were seated within about 30 minutes and overall had a good experience. There was a mix-up with our order--my husband ordered the porterhouse and I ordered the Cajun ribeye, but we ended up with two porterhouses. I'm a serious steak person (we literally buy beef from local ranchers ), so I definitely have opinions when it comes to steak. Mine was also closer to medium-well than the medium-rare I ordered. That said, the porterhouse was still good, even if it wasn't what I originally wanted. The drinks were great, and the wine selection really impressed me. They had several wines I rarely see offered at steakhouses, which was a big plus. What really saved the experience was the service. Our server immediately owned the mistake, the cook came out personally to apologize, and another employee was incredibly kind and brought me Cajun seasoning on the side. They even offered us a complimentary dessert. I chose the cheesecake and unfortunately... probably the driest cheesecake I've ever had. Definitely not my favorite. Even with the order mix-up and overcooked steak, I'd come back. Mistakes happen, and I really appreciated how the staff handled everything. First time trying this place; will not come back! Had a 4:15pm reservation, got seated, and it took well over 15min for anyone to come around to take our drink order. In addition to that, took about an hour for our salads and appetizers to come out. The waiter was beyond slow, and kept telling us how awful his 1st week had been and how the restaurant had run out of most of the food menu and some drinks. We had to ask for water (twice) because he kept getting sidetracked (mind you, there were probably about 2 other groups on the restaurant side). The steaks were overcooked and didn't have much flavor. Honestly, the sides were probably the only decent part of the meal (almost another 50min after salads). By this time; patience was running thin all around. When asked where their bathrooms were located; the woman (presumably a manager of some sort) proceeds to tell us about having 3 restrooms in the restaurant and how one had a hole in the wall because someone punched a hole in it (because it was Father's Day)?! and she just did her best to cover it with a piece of paper because she's not a contractor, what the heck does my knowing any of that useless information have to do with where the bathroom was located? (Still wondering...) We were definitely not impressed with this place; we asked for our desserts "to go" and they still got our order wrong. Oh- and apparently everyone else was offered bread as they waited, yet my group was not. Definitely, do not recommended, unless you're not hungry and have 1/2 a day to waste. I walked into Sullivan's Steakhouse in Anchorage on Thanksgiving, fully expecting to be welcomed especially since their posted hours say they're open until 11. The restaurant was lively, the bar was packed, and it was obvious that service was still in full swing. Nothing about the atmosphere suggested they were closing early or winding things down. Despite this, I was immediately told they were "closed," and the interaction felt more like someone trying to cut me off at the door than giving an honest explanation. It was disappointing, especially considering that the place was still operating as usual and serving everyone already inside. If an establishment is truly closing early for the holiday, that's understandable but at least make it clear or adjust the posted hours so customers aren't misled. Instead, it came across as rude, unprofessional, and dismissive. Being turned away while the restaurant is clearly open doesn't just feel unwelcoming it feels like the opposite of hospitality. This was not the experience I expected from a place with Sullivan's reputation, and it honestly left a bad taste before I ever got a bite. read more

Honestly this place isnt it for dinner. You can get cheaper better steak elsewhere. No reason for this place to be $100 per person. Again, we had the Costco gift cards. This time we came on a mo day for a date night on a whim. We sat at a booth right next to the kitchen. I got the lobster bisque. It was not as rich and creamy as some local places. My passionfruit martini was not full to the brim when served. I had to send my steak back. I ordered it medium. It was charred on the outside and raw in the middle. Like it was still red and marbled. A different waitress walked by and looked confused asking if that was how I wanted it cooked? I said no. It came back better inside and more black on the outside. As always, I grade the food first... Five stars for a fantastic steak and wedge salad. I asked for my steak to be cooked, medium-rare and charred on the outside. It was exactly how I asked. The restaurant was very clean, and had the feel and ambience of a Capital Grill or Ruth's Chris. The wine list was decent, although wines by the glass were limited. The service was OK. For a high-end steakhouse, the wait staff should be career servers. We came here during our trip to Alaska, happy to check out a place that was just a 5 minute walk from our hotel. Plus, we had a gift card, so double win. Service was sorely lacking, and staff weren't all that friendly at all. I don't require red carpet service, but the vibe was definitely more along the lines of "what do you want, order and leave us alone." Yikes. To keep things on the less expensive side, we mainly ordered from the happy hour menu, and thought we'd go tapas style, order a few things to share. Food was ok, but some of the flavors were a bit off, so a couple of items were sent back and we ordered something else instead. The crab fried rice was pretty tasty, I do recommend that. Even when we needed something (utensils or sauces), it took ages to get it--and this was often after the servers had failed to bring it with our food. This was just not a good visit overall. We opted to sit in the bar area hoping it would lead to decent service (that's usually our experience when sitting in the bar area), but NOPE. We used to have a Sullivan's in my city, and I was bummed when it closed; this location just made me sad. I don't know if the lackadaisical attitude is because they don't care about visitors they don't expect to see again or what, but a little friendliness goes a long way. I can deal with lackluster food or subpar service, but it's really hard to get both and leave feeling satisfied. $50 gift card wasted, but lesson learned. If I could give Sullivan's Steakhouse zero stars, I would. We waited over an hour for our steaks, and when they finally arrived, three of them were cooked incorrectly. After spending that much money and waiting that long, I expected a lot better. I asked for my steak to be fixed, and the chef sent back what can only be described as a burnt hockey puck. A steakhouse that can't cook a steak properly has a serious problem. The service was painfully slow, the food was terrible, and the way the situation was handled was insulting. The soup and salad course arrived about 8 minutes before our main course. The waitress apologized later for that. The salmon was very good. The 6 oz filet mignon was very red for medium well. The desserts (bread pudding and key lime pie) were very tasty. I was surprised there was an open kitchen where we heard folks yelling about food prep in the dimly-lit restaurant. Noah and the staff were incredibly helpful and patient, especially since it was my first time dining here. Went to Sullivan's last weekend for some Mommy and Daddy time. We love it there, we usually sit at the bar side because of the Ambiance :). Giving it 4 stars because we thought there would be live music, should've checked ahead of time. And some of the food was ok, not great. Our favorite was the Oyster Rockefeller, Lamb (get 2!) Seared Ahi tuna, and Eggrolls which was complementary. Matt was awesome and gave us such great service. Drinks were STRONG! I am not complaining haha we will definitely go back again. I rarely leave negative reviews, but our experience at Sullivan's Steakhouse was so disappointing that it deserves to be shared. We were there for three hours, and nearly the first full hour was just waiting for salads. For a Thanksgiving meal with a set, advertised holiday menu, the pacing made absolutely no sense. It felt like the kitchen was completely unprepared, which set the tone for what became an incredibly disappointing evening. When the food finally arrived, it was cold, and both the portion sizes and presentation looked more like fast food than a steakhouse. What made everything even more concerning was the fact that--for a fixed Thanksgiving menu--they were somehow out of 3 of the 4 sides, out of 3 of the 4 desserts, and even out of bread early in the evening. We only learned about the bread being out when it simply never arrived. We also had to ask for basic water refills throughout the night. One of the most alarming parts: a portion of my turkey was uncooked, and when we raised it with the staff, we were told it was "skin." It absolutely was not. We also ordered an extra side that came out wrong, and by the time it was corrected, the rest of our meal was long finished. The restaurant itself was uncomfortably cold, which only added to the sense that things just weren't being attended to. There were no mocktail options, and when we asked if they could make one of the alcoholic drinks non-alcoholic, no effort was made to offer any alternatives. For a restaurant at this price point--on a major holiday, with a planned and predictable menu--I can't imagine how they could be so unprepared so early in the evening. It felt like a cascade of preventable issues, all pointing to a lack of readiness and care. Overall, this was one of the most disappointing dining experiences we've had in a long time, and unfortunately we won't be returning. read more

The most slowest service we have ever had. We are on a tour bus. Had 1&1/2 hrs to eat. Arrived at 12:20. Didnt even have anyone stop to offer us water until 12:45. Then 5 min later took our order. We left at 1:15 without receiving our food. We had to get back to our bus by 1:30. Wanted to like this place but after years of disappointment.. it's still disappointing.. Sat at the bar. Took 15-20 mins to get a drink. Ordered an appetizer... 45 minutes later bartender told us they actually ran out of that appetizer, and that he had no idea. Meanwhile. Some lady In the bar was screaming at her server. About her food. I quietly reminded her the server is doing everything she can to get you everything you need. The management is failing their staff. Clearly. Not to mention. It was our last night in Alaska of an 8 day stay in Anchorage, Seward and a lot of restaurants in between. We had good experiences so far with food and restaurant choices. We thought we'd go out for a nice steak dinner at Sullivan's on our last night. We made a reservation for 6:30. We arrived on time but weren't seated for another 40 minutes after having been promised at several intervals that "our table is ready" - okay a bit busy, I get it. We were seated, and then had to wait for quite some time to be recognized by the waitstaff, and then another long wait to place our order. We noticed more than half the tables seated were not eating, even a salad, yet - red flag! We finally began eating at 8:00. Our party of six all ordered a steak with varying levels of wellness. All six steaks were not cooked to order - this is a high end steakhouse? The experience was very poor, at best - horrible service, lack of interest by the waitstaff, meat quality was okay, and not cooked correctly, 6 of 6. Walked out with a tab of $127.00 for two with no drinks. This restaurant wouldn't make it a year in the lower 48. read more

This is a fancy looking place that seems a bit mismatched. First off, what kind of expensive, fine dining restaurant runs out of shrimp and oysters. You're in an area with a plethora of seafood. The service seemed ok. The server was a little unorganized, said he would come back to see if we wanted appetizers but instead went straight to entrees. He wasn't familiar with the wine list but did mention the special after we asked. When the waiter poured the wine, he didn't decant the wine and sediment ended up in everyone's glass of wine. The decor is nice, but I guess I'm used to quieter fine dining restaurants when they charge $70-$100 for a steak. The lights are dimmed down and it definitely adds positively to the atmosphere. However, the dimmed lights are quickly overwhelmed by the heavy smokiness coming from the kitchen to the point where you start developing a headache. It ends up smelling like burning onion rings. For a restaurant so big, they have a really small kitchen and only 3 cooks in the back. The cooks kept bumping into each other. I can't imagine what it's like when the restaurant is busy. The calamari was like a plain breaded calamari with a bunch of sweet chili sauce poured on top. Something you'd get a like a diner. They ran out of the Tomahawk Ribeye, but upgraded us to the Dry aged Wagyu. It took over an hour to get our steaks after the appetizers. After we got our steaks, every single one was cooked differently than what we ordered Not really sure what was going on here, maybe they had a bad day. However, other yelpers seem to be having similar issues with the service. Maybe the waiters need to be retrained. Who knows. There was just a bunch of excuses of why service was subpar. read more

Then there's the spicy shrimp eggrolls which was meh-- the eggrolls exterior was too thick and flaky, not much of the filling for what? $16. Now.. I stuck to the chef-inspired bar meals and tried out their martinis while hubs got the 3 course meal for around.. so Delicious! Our steaks were perfectly cooked the way we liked it.
