I travel quite a bit and always try Thai restaurants wherever I go. I love the complex tastes and delightful textures of this remarkable cuisine. But in this place the food tasted like it came out of a can or was prepared by someone who never tasted real Thai food. I had the red curry with tofu, something I have at many places as a way of comparing them. The sauce was awful. The tofu had the consistency of chewing gum. I also tried the coconut soup with tofu. Two bites and I sent it back-- something I never do. It truly was inedible. I feel bad for the owners, but they need to either train the kitchen staff how to make Thai food or hire a Thai chef. I've tried them twice now, will not be returning. I've seen reviews that say their noodles are in a tomato sauce...they're not wrong. Drunken noodles do not belong in what I would say is their attempt at a marinara. Mediocre pad Thai that tastes as though it contained ketchup. But the real insult was requesting a small side of pickled hot peppers with my to-go order that usually comes on a little condiment tray at most authentic Thai restaurants. The lady sitting at the bar (owner?) interrupted the host who was about to head to the kitchen to get me the peppers and said "that's one dollar extra" ... on top of the 16 dollar tofu pad Thai that should have been 8.50!? Preposterous. Please be more generous and hospitable. Nickeling and diming your customers for a tablespoon's worth of peppers will not help your bottom line! read more

The food was incredible, but the best part was our server, Britney. Not only does she gain points for the same name spelling as American legend, Britney Spears, she also provided the most incredible service. She was friendly, funny, relatable, and an overall joy. When we couldn't decide how spicy we wanted our food, she offered to provide all of their spicy sauces on the side so we could decide on our own. One of our party left their card at the table and she went out of her way, on her own time, to find us on insta and not only contact him, but contact me when he did not respond to let us know what happened. I really want to like Sukothai but it is not easy. I have been going here for a few years and I think there is a downward trend. The menu is pretty standards for a Thai restaurant. The benchmark Thai noodle dish "Pad Thai" comes out bland and with an lingering taste of what can only be described as tomato ketchup. Sometimes wait staff will ask you for your desired spice level, but making this hit loaded with hot pepper sauce does not really improve the taste. Low on actual spices and bland. The Sukothai appetizer platter used to be my favorite. The spring rolls are not bad and neither is the flavor of the very flattened chicken satay, but in recent months it seems like the rolls were fried in dirty oil that was too cool. The result was more greasy, soggy rolls that were barely edible. While the staff is generally nice, if you eat here on a busy night expect to wait for service at your table. Sometimes the place is understaffed badly, other times it seems all way staff are on their first night on the job. I promised myself no more Sukothai food for a while, but will probably try it again in a month is so. I do hope that they will turn the quality of the food up a notch again because I really want a 4 star Thai place two blocks from my home. read more

Its saturday night, I came in to order 2 soups, a pad thai and a chicken satay...its has been 50 minutes that I have been waiting....ARE TOU KIDDING ME? Just tell me you're too busy for take-out. I could have started eating 30 min ago somewhere else. Plus I have my daughter with me who is hungry. Making people wait more than 45 minutes for food is ridiculous! I ordered the "twice cooked beef". I turned out to be small mound of shredded beef burnt to a crisp that tasted like it had been cooked a dozen times. It was accompanied by a dish of sprouts with some chopped up veggies. The waiter was pushy and tried to hurry our order despite the fact that the place was nearly empty. My wife ordered shrimp with yellow curry with was more like a soup than an entree. Usually at a Thai restaurant condiments such as a small portion of cucumbers in a vinaigrette are included free. This is not even close to Thai food. Period. Their drunken noodles were bathed in a tomato sauce and I swear it tasted like they added ketchup. Was it an Italian version of Thai food? All of their flavors were very off for the Tom Yum Soup, Thai fried rice, crispy noodles, vegetables. I don't think the chef has ever had real Thai food in their life. I bought almost $90 worth of food and threw it in the garbage despite the fact that I was hungry. The flavors are awful and I would not recommend it. I have been to Thailand and eat Thai food at least once a week in NYC. The worst Thai in NYC is exponentially better than this place. The only thing authentic about that place is this review. I've just spent a solid minute clicking between 2-stars and 3-stars. 2 stars or 3 stars? Why are there no half options dammit? 2 stars it'll have to be. You know, i've been here quite a few times before and after my initial yelp review, but after this last time, i'm thinking i won't be heading there willingly again. I went on a hot date... with my mom - her choice of eatery... and we were seated immediately upon our arrival. I commented to my mom how every time i came here, it seemed like adults were never present to run the restaurant. Which would be fine, except each time I come here, the food and experience gets progressively worse. In short, our waitress was pleasant and helpful, the other high-school kid behind the register, not so much. I deviated from my normal pad-thai experimentation and went for the drunken noodles, my mom tried the twice (thrice?) cooked beef with salad. We each ordered a thai iced coffee and thai iced tea. Food came quickly, presented well by a pleasant server. Our drinks were smacked onto the table by the aforementioned register-tender (a bad day perhaps?). The food sadly, was truly sub-par. And I'm saying this after having spent the day fasting. Yep, fasting. After NOT eating for more than12 hours, one would think that the first taste of food hitting my tastebuds would illicit an orgasmic sensation. Not so much. Drunken noodles were BLAND, and my mom's dish was basically just salty. Flavors? Missing in action. Hungry for nourishment, we ate half of what sat on our plates but more just sucked down the iced drinks we'd ordered. Our waitress rushed over to eagerly ask if we liked our meal and if we needed anything else. Looking over our half eaten dinners, we smiled to thank her for the recommendation of the thai iced tea and coffee - they'd been delicious. And pretty much, the heart of our dinner. read more

Have been here many times as I am both a Thai food devotee and a (sigh) resident of the Hudson Valley. There just aren't that many options available, thus the sigh. Sukhothai can be great. Unfortunately, it is not consistently so; it is not consistently anything. When our jones for Thai becomes unbearable, we roll the dice and head to Beacon. And sometimes we come up sevens, sometimes we come up snake eyes. We were there on Saturday night, and while the place was hopping -- the food was decidedly one-note. The roasted duck in red curry was (as always) a nice sized portion, but the curry sauce was the opposite of complex. The Pad Thai was lifeless. The whole crispy fish was OK, but not the transcendent experience I hope for when I have that particular Thai speciality. And the tofu in Penang curry was just mind-blazingly hot, without any real flavor to accompany the heat. I'm sure I'll be back again at Sukhothai in the not-too-distant future, but I will be saying a few prayers before we head out the door and hope that we catch them on a good night. read more

Thankfully among this in-the-midst-of-continuous-development Main Street of Beacon, NY, a terrific Thai restaurant has been one of the more senior residents. According to their website, the existing building has been here since 1818---and if you look at the condemned factory across the street alongside the river, it's not hard to believe that once-upon-a-Beacon, a thriving manufacturing or textile mill once churned out made in the USA goods. But fast forwarding to present day, Sudkhothai presents made-in-Thailand tastes which are, thankfully for us gourmandziers, made in Beacon. To really get at the "Thai-ness" of any restaurant, one need only apply the pad thai test. The pad thai here (less than $12)is a conservative creation whose textures aren't buried under sugar-packed sauces or other similarly deceiving culinary acrobatics. It's the real deal, subtle on the taste as a good pad thai should be. I paired this experience with a Thai iced coffee, which comes in jumbo size. The tom kha gai soup ($4) is really terrific---as with the pad thai, the "coconut" of the coconut soup isn't overpowering. It has the spice kick that's expected but again, in just the right amount unlike other Thai spots which will over-spice the soup to hide a weak coconut base. The soup was also brimming with fresh n' tasty vegetables--the mushrooms, red peppers, and green peppers were so fresh you could still hear the chef's knife hitting the cutting board. While a mangos and sticky rice are missing (perhaps due to the fruit seasons) from this self-touted traditional style restaurant, the offering of the evening, banana and sticky rice, sounded like a good thing to try for my next visit. As an added bonus, to walk off your post-dinner satisfaction, Beacon itself has a nice gathering of art galleries and quaint cafes within walking distance of Sukhothai. Service is friendly, but as previously Yelped, a bit on the slow side (perhaps also a tradition and/or side effect of a home cooked Thai feast). Even at roughly 15% capacity on a not-so-busy evening, timeliness of the service can be slow. So don't come if you're in a rush (who rushes through a tasty Thai-feast, anyway?), instead, explore the traditional fare, chew your food, smile broadly Most importantly, Sukothai holds to the most important tenet of any dining experience, traditional or not: a pleasant and satisfying meal. read more

Relaxing, welcoming decor and set up. Thai iced tea is perfect. Service is great. Unfortunately, pad thai is flavorless. Noodles were overcooked and I had to add salt and pepper to my vegetable pad thai for flavor. My friends ordered a chicken pad thai and the other a beef... both agreed on the lack of spice and taste. An important ingredient was missing or the dish seemd watered down. 1 pad thai plating is great portion for 2 to share and perhaps order another dish to compliment. We go here occasionally and it is really not very good. The curries seem to be the best bet here but the pad thai is seriously the worst I have ever had. It tastes like they have added...tomato sauce? It is almost like eating linguine, it was making me gag in fact. The thai toast is however, bizarre and delicious- greasy goodness. I don't know, I would probably go here more even though it's kind of sub par, but the people that run the take out and register and front of restaurant are usually surly and not that nice. To echo another reviewer, they definitely could use some decent management as it does have potential but it is just ...not good. The only reason why this place didn't get 1 star was the decent service. We got the Tom Yum Goong, Papaya Salad, and Drunken noodles. I split this with my girlfriend and we both thought all the dishes were a bit off. The Tom Yum was lacking flavor, Papayas in the salad seemed old and chewy, not crispy, and the drunken noodles were also lacking flavor. We both had a Papaya salad but my girlfriends had a lot more sauce and over powered by vinegar. There are vegetarian options which is nice. The atmosphere was pretty nice too. I wouldn't recommend this place but maybe we came on a bad night. I wouldn't come back though. read more

Their food is good but my experience with them today was unsettling. I ordered a lunch special which according to their website was to include a drink and spring rolls. I got home and they were missing from my order. When I called to ask where the drink and spring roll were the staff member explained that "It is not their policy to include the spring rolls and drink unless the person ordering explicitly asked for them. This is the only restaurant that my husband and I go to that we always leave room for dessert. The fried banana wrap is the best and the unique flavored fried ice creams are soooo good. Try the coconut or ginger. Definitely get dessert here! My husband is eating his way through the entire menu, he's about halfway right now. So far he has enjoyed every dish. My favorite is the duck, I get it every time we go here. Their rice is always perfectly cooked and it's a joy to eat. It has great flavor. Normally I would not eat the rice at other restaurants, it's not worth the carbs, but here, it's so perfectly cooked every single time. Even the veggies are great, they are cooked so they still have a fresh taste, but are cooked enough to easily chew. Since we live close by we also like to order take out appetizers sometimes. We love the shrimp rolls, they are very crisp and never greasy. Other favorites are the chicken satay and the spring rolls. Oh and I can't forget to mention my husbands favorite thing on the menu - the thai wonton soup. He says that it is the best that he has ever tasted. The only complaint that we have here is the limited beer selection, but it's not enough to stop us from enjoying this great local place. Remember - do not skip dessert! read more

Great little find. I have eaten here several times over the years and I have found the food to be consistently quite good. Thai food is some of my fav cuisine and I have eaten in and gotten take out here. Most recently, we ordered out last night (New Year's Eve) and had several great dishes. For starters, we got the satay and ring rolls. The satay was a big hit with out three-year-old (hello, meat on a stick ... What's not to like!?). Spring rolls were chicken and good. There was nothing special about them, which is fine ... I like good food and I don't expect that a spring roll has to wow me. For the mains we ordered the Massaman, Panag, and Pad Grapow. All were chicken and all were great. I was particularly happy with the Grapow, which is a favorite dish of mine whenever I eat Thai. I guess you could call it my litmus test. The flavors in the Pad Grapow were rich and I ate beyond my belly capacity, making it impossible to stay awaken to ring in the New Year at midnight. Also, we drove 45 minutes (round trip) to get this food and so that should tell you something. In the past I have indulged in several of their curries and never been disappointed. If you are looking for good Thai in this area, give this place a try. I think you will be happy you did! read more

Four of us stopped after a day at DIA and galleries, for a late lunch/early dinner. The ambiance was really lovely. The service was really POOR. Our waitress was not only slow, but seemed to be in a really bad mood, and very disinterested in serving us. This was odd because we were her only clients. The quality of the ingredients was good, and our meals had fairly good overall flavor. However, the food was unbearably mild- we could not detect any heat. In fact a curry soup had to be sent back, since it consisted of luke warm coconut milk and vegetables! When we asked the waitress if there was a way to request the food to be a little hotter (in case we ever went back) she said , yes, and we could have had a special spice rack brought to us. Very consistent Thai... excellent curries, particularly Masaman and Panang... Word to the wise, the lunch special only goes to 1:30 pm M-F.. Too early an end time. BUT , when ordering lunch, get the summer rolls instead of the spring rolls. They are not fried, chicken or veggie, and there's no upcharge. The high ceilings and brick interior give the place a warm, , open feel. The window seats give a view of Mt. Beacon. The servers tend to be quite young, but Haley is one of the nicest most competent servers around. read more

I ordered a gluten free chicken and vegetable dish. I asked numerous times if they use any sauce or sugar on the dish and the waiter told me they didnt. When my food arrived, it was covered in a brown sauce. I asked again if there was any sugar or gluten in the dish and I got the same answer, despite him forgetting to tell me this dish DID HAVE SAUCE. I ate the dish and got violently ill, due to my food allergies. I even made my friend try the dish who doesnt have allergies and they said it tastes so sweet that it had to have sugar in it. To be honest, I can't review the food here because I never actually got to eating it. My friends and I wanted a quick lunch (traveling with my 20 month old) and were thrilled to see that this cute looking Thai place had zero wait. When we sat down, it took some time for a waitress to come take our order and bring us water. An hour and ten minutes later, we had no food (not even an appetizer), and no refill on the water. No one addressed us at all. When I complained, I was told they were busy, and then food came quick, but it wasn't anything we ordered. We were then told they would have to make our food then. An hour and a half later we had a cranky baby and no food. At that point, we walked out and don't plan on ever returning. read more

This is my favorite Thai restaurant in the area. I've enjoyed every meal I've eaten here, so it surprised me to find that others have found it hit or miss. The drunken noodles with chicken (I order it very spicy), is my favorite dish to order and I haven't found better drunken noodles elsewhere! They chop up fresh chiles and use them in the dish. I also really enjoyed the naem sod (sour and spicy ground pork) which had amazing flavor. I also like the ambiance, with the brick walls that are ever-present in Beacon. read more

They can't seen to be able to update the tracking apps that tell you what time the order is ready or just forget to make the order. A few times here and there the customer service has been sub-par at dinner time, especially when they have younger host staff, but overall we typically think of this restaurant as one of our favs!
