I've passed their sign for the last 15 years while driving through Chattanooga. Decided to finally stop and try out the ribs and let me tell you...these ribs are fine. Fall off the bone and great quality with tons of meat falling off the bone. They're served dry but they have 6 different sauces to try. You're guaranteed to find one you like! This place is on the hill on the way out of Chattanooga. They even have goats grazing outside of the restaurant. Everything here was totally awesome! So I came here today after a 7-hour drive from Mississippi. I am in town for a quick getaway weekend and my friend and I decided to stop here and grab some grub. Let me say the food here is fantastic ! I had the spicy pork tacos and the Mo Rockin Stew! Lemme tell yall- the tacos were light but dense, filled with flavor and portioned just right! I would however, have loved just a LIIIIIITLE more meat in my tacos. I also enjoyed the cornbread that came with my meal- so tasty! I tried several of the barbecue sauces and I loved the mustard, the Hot Lips and the original barbecue sauce. All of them were so delicious. I know there's tons of foods in Chattanooga to try but I wish I could go back to this spot immediately! And to top it off- I was able to arrive and be seated outside and enjoy my meal as the sun was setting over the city- chef's kiss! And I can't forget our amazing server, April. Yummmm yum yum! Sugars ribs is a great spot for families or dates. It has a beautiful view and great service to pair with its wonderful ribs and sides. I loved every dish I tried. The fact that the sauces are right on the table and there are 5 to choose from is a huge win for me. No need to be stingy on your sauce even though the meat doesn't even need it! Other than the views being spectacular don't expect too much from the bbq. I had the pork butt, with a beer, cookie a d premium sides dropping $25 plus tip. The bbq was just ok. Little flavor on the pork butt but not too much flavor. Mac and cheese was just ok. The okra though was spot on--good char and great flavor. Not bad bbq but not great for $25. Restaraunt, while clean inside, is a bit tired and dated, but there is a great view from the outdoor seating area. They do things their own way, sometimes working to their advantage, sometimes, not so much, at least in my view. Let's start with the brisket, it's chopped, nice smoke, but it's chopped, and that for me, that just doesn't work. Their greens are clearly their own recipe, with some unique ingredients, but it's light on vinegar, and while they have vinegar available to add, it to me is interesting, but also comes up a bit short. Tried the smoked sausage and the ribs, and they were delicious and on point. Corn bread was another item where they took some creative liberties, and it surely worked for them. Lots of wonderful selections on the bbq sauces, both variety and quality, all worth trying. You can count on getting good service from the very helpful staff. It's not Chattanooga's best BBQ spot, but it is good enough to give it a try, who knows, maybe you've been waiting all your life for chopped brisket ? read more

I got the ribs. You should get the ribs. I was visiting Chattanooga and someone recommended Sugars for BBQ. I went and tried it and it was good advice. The view is awesome and the ribs were some of the best I have ever had. They have a variety of bbq sauce to put on the meat but in my opinion it's a waste of time. You won't need it. The meat is so good on its own. Also, the sauces are very vinegary which I think is a local thing and may not appeal to all. I tried some of the tacos. Brisket was my favorite. They are better than what I've gotten at some Mexican restaurants. Go to Sugars. Get ribs. Enjoy the view. read more

Really enjoyed Sugar's Ribs. It was recommended by a lady staying at the same hotel. She raved about Sugar's Ribs. She told me it was so good that she and her husband make a 2 hour drive just for the ribs and tacos! Sugar's Ribs was our last stop on our visit to Chattanooga. The ribs were fall off the bone tender, the okra chips were definitely different and very yummy. Also enjoyed the vinegar coleslaw since I stay away from mayo. The corn muffins were melt in your mouth down right good! And who can resist the awesome view of Chattanooga from the patio. I did not try their really really hot barbecue sauce, but it was clear that it is really really hot. I typically like mustard base bar sauce and found their mustard base somewhat watery, so I wasn't a fan, but the other tomato based sauces were very good. It was also nice to have food recommendations from regulars while we waited in line to place our order. Everyone was super friendly. The meats were the best part at Sugar's Ribs. Ribs were fall apart goodness and had a good smoky flavor. They also had about 5-6 sauces. I made a combo sauce out of their Hot Lips and Carolina Red sauce. It was zesty and spicy! We didn't really care for the mac n cheese. Probably the worse mac n cheese ever. I don't recommend it at all. It seriously seemed like we just got some pasta and they topped it with some shredded cheese that was melted on top. Banana pudding wasn't anything special either with crispy nilla wafers. If we eat here again, I'd go for the potatoes or okra as my sides instead. Just a tip if you're going here, you place your order at the counter and they give you a number. You find your own table inside or outside, if available. They're actually quite busy and sometimes, you may have to stand around a bit until someone can clear a table for you. Came here with a party of 8 on our last day in Tennessee. The view on the patio was gorgeous, if you can get a seat out there. The food was excellent & extremely filling. I ordered the brisket plate. Wife and i have known about this place for a long time. We have driven by it for years, never seeing more than a couple of vehicles in the parking lot. Maybe we just caught them on a bad day. We'll never go back. - Way overpriced for the small portions -Food was served cold. -Poor service from 2 servers who spent the whole time on their phones. There were only 2 couples seated. Another table, which arrived after us, just got up and left. -The views were nice a sunset. This place advertises HEAVILY on all media forms. My fiancée found this place for us while we were coming back from from a whiskey tour and boy oh boy, am I glad that she did! This place was certainly a highlight of our trip. When you come in, there's a small area where you wait in line to place your order. It was quite congested when we came in, but it's worth the wait. I ordered the brisket with Mo's rock'n stew and a brisket taco on the side and my fiancée got a full rack of ribs and roasted jalapeños. Their drink selection was pretty limited to just a couple of different beers so we both went with canned root beers (still can't beat that). They gave us a number sign and we picked our own table out on the balcony. I have to say, it's amazing to have BBQ at a restaurant with a view this beautiful! Our server was extremely nice and and explained the difference between their (I believe 7) different sauces, all of which we tried and each was delicious in its own right. When our food arrived, you could smell how good it was. My brisket was both soft and tender but with a nice crisp, smokey outside that held it together. I covered it in their Carolina sauce and their hottest green sauce. The mix between smokey, juicy meat, the vinegar from the Carolina sauce and the spice of the green sauce brought this dish to the next level. My brisket taco had that same flavorful meat but in combination with a little cheesy queso, fresh vegetal taste from their salsa, a touch of sweetness and vinegar from the pickled radishes and then comes across with acidity and cream from a lime crema. This taco is so delicately balanced that even with all those toppings, you can still pick out each component and how it adds to the overall whirlwind of flavor that it has going on. Even with everything I've written already, the thing that I was most surprised about was the stew. In fact, I don't know if my words can do it justice, but I'll try. This really feels more like a soup than a stew because it is pretty light but it packs a really flavorful punch. The broth of this stew is a chicken broth, and chicken is the meat in it as well. It has perfectly cut chunks of meat that are incredibly tender. Tied in with it are a variety of beans, corn and spices. But what really sets this stew apart is the strong cilantro flavor that emanates from it, but without overpowering the whole dish. It's exceptionally well crafted if you like cilantro. Onto my fiancée's dish. Her ribs were fall off the bone tender. Unfortunately, for me, I like ribs to be tender but able to stay on the bone. She on the other hand loves them falling apart, so they were perfect. The taste of the ribs were also on point! They were well seasoned with a great smoke flavor and we both agreed that they went best with the classic sauce. She also loved the roasted jalapeños but the spice of the peppers was sadly baked out, but still super flavorful. We finished with a couple of their cookies, which were a nice, cheap little after dinner sweet, nothing fancy. Overall, we were big fans of everything we got but definitely go in knowing the stew is heavy in cilantro, the ribs are fall off the bone, and the jalapeños don't have heat.
