On the road, looking for barbecue, checked out the reviews and menu of the #1 Rated place around me...Thatcher's. Driving up, it looked pretty darn perfect. It was a cute little small restaurant located far away from everything, and across from a small RV campground. The setting screamed, "come get yo-self some good barbecue." There are certain things that I consistently order even if I know I don't need, and cheese curds are one of them. There's were banging, with a great salsa ranch sauce. Once again, I found myself at a crossroads... Order some crazy 3000 calorie concoction, or play it straight and just get simple barbecue. I opted for the smoked meat platter with chopped pork, chicken, and sliced brisket. As if that wasn't enough, I also received three sides. Three huge sides, not the little Mac-n-cheese in a cup I got a few days earlier. The brisket: it looked a little dry, but it was not. It was very smoky. The darkness was from the smoke. They use Hickory wood. It was a tad salty, but overall really great. If I were to go back, I would only order the brisket. The pulled pork: tasty, but on the dry side. The chicken: less tasty, and drier. I don't really know what to make of the pork and the chicken. It might just be a regional difference in how barbecue is prepared? The second you start cutting into cooked meat, the juices run out and things start drying up. Anytime I smoke a pork roast, I immediately pour back all of the juices that were rendered out of the meat and into the foil from being wrapped back into the shredded pork so everything is moist. Even if it is too moist, it is still a good experience. I kind of think dry pulled pork is pretty inexcusable. And with chicken? I have no idea.lol. I always brine the chicken for a long time before I smoke it, and then it served as a breast to slice into. Anyway, I would say no to the chicken, unless the plan is to sauce it up. Speaking of sauces, they gave you three completely different flavors, which I love. And they aren't in a cup, so you won't run out. For the sides... A thick slab of Texas toast. Way better than the puny bread slices I received a couple days ago at the other joint. Solid mac & cheese. You know this was homemade, because the cheese sauce had that somewhat gritty texture. No judgment here, I stopped making homemade mac & cheese myself because I could never get the consistency right. I think it is because the cheese use is either pre-shredded, or it's not stirred in slow enough... Fried green tomatoes - not my thing, but I guess they were good. I had to try out to see what all the fuss was about. The waitress, who was super charming and sweet, recommended the sweet potato tater tots. These were placed in front of me, which made the entire lunch smell like sweet, sugary cinnamon. They were pretty fantastic. I would definitely recommend these when side hunting. Overall, if I was in the area or passing through, I would for sure go back. A lot of their salads and sandwiches and tater tot recipes looked pretty wild. Skip breakfast and lunch and use all of your calories for one meal here. Prices and portions were on point. I didn't even make it through half my meal. If I was far away, I would probably not go super far out of my way to hit this place. But then again, after a couple other places recently...I might just make that drive and enjoy me some more of this cute little place. read more

I was on my way to a client site, stopped for gas, and started looking for something to eat. I came across this place and figured, why not give it a try? I was seated right away and started looking through the menu. There were several things that caught my eye, but the smoked Reuben stood out -- I'd never had one before, so I had to try it. I also added a smoked sausage link on the side. The food came out pretty quickly. The Reuben was generously stacked with meat and tasted like a solid classic Reuben, but I didn't really pick up any "smoked corned beef" flavor. Still good, just not quite what I expected from the name. The sausage link was a nice addition. I really liked the vibe of the place -- a small BBQ spot with a friendly staff. Went to this location for the first time in years let me say: they crushed it! The staff is even friendlier than I remember and did extra to make sure the experience was great even with our one year old pitching a fit because he was a hungry munchkin! Every staff member was kind and friendly! Also, I don't remember ever being blown away by the brisket at any thatcher's. Let me tell ya this store caught wind of my thoughts said "hold my beer" and we unexpectedly had the best brisket I've sampled for ages! The pulled pork has always been solid and if you want to treat yourself I'm a strong believer the porky bucket is the stuff of legends! The last time I had gone to this location was before the "Rona" and the store has since changed the layout of the inside and is better suited towards the needs of both the takeout/eat-in customer. I absolutely loved this place. It is one of the best BBQ experiences I have had in a long time or maybe ever. One thing you don't get very often in BBQ restaurants is innovation. This place absolutely has one of the most unique BBQ menus I have ever seen and it's all great. The BBQ itself is great. They do a wonderful job, but instead of just giving you the meat, they have a variety of dishes that you can get it with. The sandwiches on the menu are so wonderful. It doesn't even matter which one you pick. They are all great. I also like a lot of the Hispanic influence on the menu. If you think BBQ sauce is great on brisket, try some queso! We were traveling back to metro Atlanta from Cleveland, TN. I looked at BBQ places in Chattanooga and the surrounding towns. Thatcher's BBQ had very high ratings so we decided to give them a try and I am SO glad we did. When you pull into the parking lot, you see that it is a small restaurant in a non-descriptive building. Upon entry, you discover that they have only 10 or so tables. The interior is clean and the staff is super friendly. We were quickly seated at one of the two tables available. Our server, Belle, arrived at our table with a smile on her face and a can-do attitude. She took our drink order and answered our questions about the menu selections. For a small restaurant, their menu is vast and has some great offerings. We each decided to go with the chopped and sliced combos which comes with 2 sides and TX toast. We both tried the fried green tomatoes as one of our sides. My better half ordered onion rings as her second side and I ordered baked beans. The food arrived in about 10 to 15 minutes. All our selections were good. The fried green tomatoes were piping hot and had a tasty cornmeal breading. My better half's onion rings were not very not so I told Belle about them being like warm. She said that she would have the kitchen make us some fresh onion rings. Our pulled meats were all very good but needed some BBQ sauce to add some twang to the meat. The sliced brisket was the star of our meals. It was lean, tender and delicious! You get large portions but we had skipped lunch so we both finished off the meals. Let's start with the wonderful service. The ladies that took care of us were awesome! Quick to seat us, always there for a refill, and brought some amazing food. Speaking of the food I can't say enough about the mac and cheese! This is some of the best I have ever had. The family agreed we would drive out of our way just to have it again. The Okra was also a big hit. Fried just right so it didn't have that odd texture. The meats were exceptionally tasty. We had the pork, chicken and brisket. I will say if you are expecting Texas style brisket then do not order. You're in Georgia and it's done different, and for this style of brisket it is done well. A small older building on the side of the road was the first positive sign of good Q but then when I saw the smoking shed off to the side I was sure I was in for a treat! The food and service definitely didn't disappoint me. The team here are amazing! They were joking and laughing with me while I was ordering and happily answered my menu questions, like "what are sweet green beans?", turns out they are green beans cooked with brown sugar! There were several unique sides that really added to the experience. I decided on the brisket and pulled pork plate which came with two sides; after much consideration I went with the sweet potato tots and loaded potato salad, both excellent choices. I ordered to go so I could sit at one of several picnic tables in the oak tree shaded side yard with my dog. The lady taking my order quickly volunteered to bring my food out to me when it was ready so she could meet my pup, Gizzy. The brisket was moist and amazing and the pulled pork was tasty and perfectly cooked. I asked for sweet sauce but the meat was so good it wasn't needed. The sweet potato tots were dessert like and totally unique, sprinkled with powder sugar! The loaded potato salad was tasty and an excellent side as well. Accompanied with a slab of tasty Texas toast it was a great meal! But to top it off, I couldn't resist the banana pudding, which was just the perfect combo of sliced bananas, pudding and fluffy whipped cream. very inconsistent, i come here alot. one day it may be the best thing ever, then another day it may be terrible.. i guess it depends on who is making your food too.. some days it will be more than you can eat, and other days it may be a pathetic little pile. but in the days when it's good, BOY IS IT GOOD! if you are not into the local culture, i would not reccomend dining in. very loud country music plays, you have to yell at the server & she has to yell at you to hear eachother. the inside ambiance gets a zero out of 10. everyone seems decent there, the food is normally pretty good depending on what you order, again its hit or miss. im going to try and get photos of alot of the stuff that does not have photos on yelp. (its good enough that i can come back and do that) the pricing is a bit high. the meat is a bit dry. but i really do love the buckets & the hot dogs are pretty good too! i got the man of smoke sandwich last time and it had REALLY good flavor, but was $12 for 2 bites of food. not everything is oversized there, and some things are. again, just really inconsistent.. it seems they have an ingredient list and just say put these items together & each employee does it entirely different or maybe its due to inventory on certain days idk.. i swear 1 day it may be 9oz container, one day may be 32oz & one day it may be 3oz.. i dont like the inconsistency, maybe they should get a special scoop or scale or something. also i wish the prices were better, but the people over hyping them on these reviews will ensure they stay sky high. it's good, but its not AS good as the other reviews on here would have you believe. if you haven't tried it or are on the fence, id say it's worth a try if you can afford it. update: DO NOT ORDER THE CHICKEN!!! you have been warned! it is inedible. i went back today and ordered a chicken wrap thing & the green feather fries thing. & the chicken in both is very tough and not great at all.. i almost want to drop a star because how bad the chkn was! thats what i mean some things are GREAT! amazing actually, some things are inedible.. some days the amazing things may just be okay.. others they may be AMAZING. hit or miss read more

Yup, 3 delish sauces Golden Licker-sort of a honey mustard BBQ sauce, House Snackin-a light sauce with a sweet smoky flavor and the MY favorite Kickin' Bomber sauce which was spicy, smiley and sweet! We had pulled pork and smoked chicken sandwiches each with tater tots and we split the fried okra. Food came fast, hot and cooked properly. Soooo good!! The food was all delicious and the service was amazing!! We had fried green tomatoes which were the best I've had in a loooong time. I also had the Porky Bucket which was enough to take half home with me. They're also very accommodating when you want to exchange something or add something. I got crinkle fries with my Porky Bucket instead of tater tots and was also able to add green onions upon request. Omgggg it was amaaaazing I also had some sweet potato tots which were soooo good, especially with the cinnamon/sugar mixture they have. We went for a late lunch on a Saturday and they were still pretty steady. The staff was very attentive and friendly and we received our food at an incredible speed.
