Outstanding brisket and yummy hot Cole slaw, but the star of my lunch today was the collard greens! Best I've ever had. Definitely coming back to enjoy more from this great barbecue spot. Outstanding service too in a really cool place!

This spot is right off of freeway and downtown Chattanooga. They have the usual bbq fares. We tried the brisket sandwich, brisket melt, chicken salad and pulled pork sandwich. The brisket is excellent but definitely could have appreciated a higher brisket to bread ratio.

I grew up in Memphis and consider myself a BBQ snob. l've also recently discovered the joys of a proper brisket now that my daughter lives in Austin. Barque (bark) brings those two places together on East Main St in Chattanooga. The brisket was moist and flavorful as were the ribs. I didn't get much of the pulled pork because I filled up on the ribs and brisket but it was done proper. If you don't get the collard greens as a side, you'll miss about as good a collards as I've ever had. Barque has an authentic BBQ atmosphere with an old convenience store dining room, picnic tables out back, beer, corn hole and the smokers near by. And, just like the name says, dogs are welcome too. Get there. You will be glad you did.

Great bbq dawg, excellent customer service, and the added rain while sitting in their outdoor seating area made this a great afternoon.

Hickory Pit Bar-B-Que - Bbq pork sandwich (large) w curly fries

This is our first visit to Hickory, the owners are amazingly friendly. Our waitress was kind of…read moreneutral and acted like she didn't really want to be there. The food was good, but the major drawback is that a large plate only had four ribs, one of which you could barely call a rib. The second, drawback for me is that the ribs came with sauce already on them. That's like a major no-no in my book. I know, everybody has their preference, but I prefer to sauce my own food if I feel that it's necessary. To be honest, barbecue should stand on its own without sauce and sauce should only be there to enhance the flavor. The meat was tender, but I couldn't really get a feel for the flavor of the meat because the sauce interfered with that. The pulled pork plate was good. Also, my girlfriend said she enjoyed that. But again, sauce should come on the side in my opinion. I have no real complaint against this place, but I wish I had known ahead of time that the ribs came with sauce on them and I wish that I had known that there were only four ribs on the plate, I would've ordered a whole rack. Prices are good, the place is clean, and as I said, the owners are very welcoming and warm people. Give this place a go, it's worth a trip! But just ask questions before you order!

The dining area is very comfortable with homespun large wooden kitchen tables. They serve catfish, but only on Saturdays.

All the sides were legendary representations of their respective method, not a dud in the bunch. The best part, though, was the banana pudding. Sweet Christmas, the banana pudding. I thought I have had banana pudding before. It turns out, I've only been trying the understudy to the star. By far, the best BP I've ever had. Try this place if you're in town!

Customer service and atmosphere are still solid, and the presentation of the food was great! Everything looked delicious when it arrived. This time, I decided to try something different and ordered the smoked wings platter with white BBQ sauce, baked beans, and potato salad. Jalapeño Cornbread was added to each meal. Unfortunately, the smoked wings were a letdown. They had a fatty underdone texture that was unappealing. It was almost as if a step was missed in the cooking process. They were just too soft for my liking. Also, I'm not a fan of Jalapeño Cornbread. I prefer my Cornbread without the jalapeños, but I ate most it anyway. For some reason, the Jalapeño Cornbread had a dish soap taste to it. It was weird. On the positive side, the baked beans were flavorful with a nice kick, and the potato salad was just as good as I remembered. Is Edley's still our go-to BBQ spot? Absolutely! Will I order the smoked wings again? Definitely not.

Walking in , you could see a long bar that you could sit at or just order food at in a designated area and seat yourself around the place. We chose to set up the bar, of course. It kind of ended up being a bad idea because people had no idea about personal boundaries and being in other people's face while they're enjoying their beers and they are standing around ordering food and reaching over you. Ben and I even switch seats, because he is worried about his personal space then I am. Most of the food that was on the menu was barbecue driven but since I had just had poke, I was not hungry. The servers were very friendly when we were ordering and checked in on us often I just wish that they would have kept the line in a more orderly fashion since there was a designated area for ordering specifically.

So, as I was told by the staff, the restaurant portion has been spun off and sold from the brewery itself, so this is my first visit for food, since that has transpired. It is now known as "BUDS & BREWS CHATTANOOGA", part of a larger group out of Nashville, I was told. The bar/brewery looks the same, there is the same helpful staff, but in all honesty, the food just isn't as good. The pulled pork, was okay at best, the fried onion rings, just too greasy, and the chicken wings, just too dry. When first opened NR was the first microbrewery to prepare and offer their own food, and the bbq was stellar, but I cannot make that same statement today. Brews are still good, but if need a good microbrewery in Chattanooga that can offer you good food to go along with that cold one, my recommendation is either Oddstory or Five Wits. I'll continue to come to NR for a beer, as their Moonpie Stout is absolutely one of the best beers you can find in Chattanooga, but like I said if I am hungry too, this will no longer be one of my primary spots to consider.
