When first opened NR was the first microbrewery to prepare and offer their own food, and the bbq was stellar, but I cannot make that same statement today. Brews are still good, but if need a good microbrewery in Chattanooga that can offer you good food to go along with that cold one, my recommendation is either Oddstory or Five Wits. I'll continue to come to NR for a beer, as their Moonpie Stout is absolutely one of the best beers you can find in Chattanooga, but like I said if I am hungry too, this will no longer be one of my primary spots to consider.

I tried several different things here, and overall, the food was excellent. I had the pulled pork, which was tender, juicy, and had a really nice smoke flavor. The pulled chicken was also very good. It seemed to be a chopped mixture of dark and white meat and was incredibly juicy. There were even some pieces of skin mixed in, which added different textures and made each bite especially flavorful. For sides, I had the mac and cheese and collard greens. The mac and cheese was excellent--perfectly creamy and cheesy, with a great ratio of noodles to cheese. The collard greens, however, were disappointing. They weren't cooked quite long enough and had too much crunch, especially from some of the thicker stems and veins that were left in. They also lacked the seasoning I expect from really good Southern collards. I couldn't detect much heat, smokiness, or richness from something like bacon or another fat. They weren't bad, but they definitely weren't on the same level as the rest of the meal. I also really enjoyed their BBQ sauce, and the complimentary corn muffins they bring to the table were a nice touch. The only other negative was the service when we first arrived. It took about seven minutes for anyone to greet us. When someone finally did, the hostess seemed confused about where to seat us. She walked us to one table, but another employee stopped her and told her we needed to be moved somewhere else. After getting a brief, unintended tour of the restaurant, we finally made it to our table. Despite the awkward start and the disappointing collard greens, it was still a really good experience overall. The meats were excellent, the portions were satisfying, and most of the food lived up to what I've come to expect from Jim 'N Nick's. I'll definitely be back.
