Get some okra. Doesn't matter which--they're all good! (And this from a transplanted Yankee who, five years ago, thought very little of okra) The half slab is pretty filling, but mighty tasty. My only regret was not having a spicy sauce option at the table. I got the vinegar slaw, and it was slaw. With vinegar. But it was a bit too coursely cut (I'm not a horse) and--dare I say--too fresh. Perhaps I was too Germanic in my slaw expectations. The view from the deck is great, and if it's not too breezy, the heaters keep you comfy. We were tired from roadtripping and wanted some local food to try once we reached our hotel for the night. We were so happy we chose this place. We got to see the goats running around as we drove to the entrance. My nephew had the bbq chicken, my sister chose the catfish and I had the chicken tacos. The food was delicious We added a side of chili, potatoes and some grilled onions and okra. We enjoyed the cornbread. We can't wait to return to this place. Everything we got was good. read more

We got into Chattanooga late - we drove all day and needed something close. The Yelp scores enticed us and the location was close enough that it would be quick. We just had takeout so can't judge much on the interior. The food to me was pretty bland. The ribs didn't have any seasoning, the sides didn't have seasoning (turnip greens and fried potatoes) and the cornbread had some stuff in the middle so that was a little odd. We were passing through the city of Chattanooga on our way west nd north and it was dinner time, so we had a hankering for bar b que and this place was on the top of the list near us so we found an off ramp and drove under the bridge to get to the parking lot and a huge building housing sugar ribs restaurant. Waking into the place, you are met with an ordering desk and cashier waiting to ring you up, take your payment and give you a number card to have someone deliver your food. Beverages are self serve and we found a table to sit down and wait for our dinner. The view outside overlooking the west side of Chattanooga and the mountains west of the city were very dramatic and scenic. The food was delivered by an energetic waitress and we confirmed the order and dove into some pretty good chicken and a side of ribs. The barbecue sauces were pretty much all vinegar based with other items to add differing flavors from sweet to '"hot lips" spices. Cornbread that actually had whole kernels of corn came with the meal and my wife and I had enough to share and enjoy. We attended a concert event in Chattanooga October 11th. We stop this restaurant prior to concert. Place voted as the best barbecue locally. The overall ambiance and restaurant aesthetics was good. We sat outside on the patio. I ordered chicken which turned out to be Overcooked dry rotisserie. My husband opted for chopped pork sandwich. It wasn't moist enough but he was able to eat it without choking. Decent variety of sauces but they were on the sweet side. Service was cordial. variety of sauces, fun atmosphere, friendly staff. Far as having outstanding food for me and beautiful husband no they don't. Came to Chattanooga for the weekend, was craving some BBQ and man this place was like a breath of fresh air. I got to try the chicken and ribs , with the turnips ! Every single bite was good , the ribs were cooked to perfection, the chicken was roasted to perfection, i mean the bbq sauce and that vinegar sauce they got , put that in the turnips and your welcome ! For my AA folks , I felt welcome and safe , the service was great, Donna #1 and Donna #2 gave the best service i had in quite some time ! Sugar's is a casual restaurant where you order at the counter and a server brings your food out to your table. The counter is immediately to your left when you enter. The staff was very friendly. My group ordered different plates: ribs, brisket, etc. I tried the fried catfish plate $13. Comes with pickles, onions, piece of cornbread and one regular side (special side substitution for $1 extra). I chose the mac and cheese which is a special side. My plate came with two big pieces of catfish and a small cup of the mac and cheese. I was very hungry and devoured the fish, mac and cheese, and cornbread within minutes. We stopped there on our way out of town and got the Crispy Potato Brisket Nachos and Cheese Poppers. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. I'm from NYC and had much better BBQ there. This was the worse BBQ I've had. The ribs were dry and well under seasoned. It also came with a bunch of fat. The half of chicken was okay. All their sauces were way to liquidy/ not thick enough. THE CORN BREAD WAS THE WORST. It was cold and stale. Changing my 2 stars into 1 star.
