Great spot with a nice scenic view of the mountains and city. The service was quick and our waitress was very attentive and helpful. Within seconds of orders she brought out silverware and extra napkins and explained the different sauces on the table. A few minutes food was coming out. Towards the end the waitress brought warm cloths to wipe our hands. I enjoyed that extra perk at the end since barbecue can be messy. Stopped here on our way back home from Chattanooga. Smelled so good inside while we were ordering that we ended up getting 3 full meals with sides to share between the two of us. You order your food from the counter up front and take a seat, we sat outside and the view was great! The mayo slaw was absolutely delicious as were the ribs, super Smokey and very tender. The kids loved the M&C, the tacos were good but needed a bit more flavor; the description sounded amazing but the flavor fell flat. The brisket sandwich was good, but the banana pudding was mostly a vanilla flavor with some banana slices throughout. We are on a family vacation and everywhere we go we are told we "have got to try Sugars" so tonite we did. We explained to the cashier we were from out of town and had been advised to check this place out. Anywhere else I've been for BBQ if we were new the people were only too happy to allow us to try something to assist us with the decisions. The traffic to get there was bad enough for us to just forge on. We got a little of everything; pulled pork sandwiches, brisket tacos, brisket plate, half chickens, and full rack of ribs with Mac n cheese, potato wedges and corn on cob. After declaring our total over 100.00, the gentleman stated we could get as many of their famous sauces to go. I should think so. There were several sweet, one hot and a couple others; none of which we cared much for. The wait was quick which was appreciated and they also gave us pork bones for our dog. It's his first trip with the family so I thought that was sweet. Ok off we go to bring this large group their food. Here's a summary of our reactions: the Mac N cheese sides were a bit hit with the young and old. Wedges were not. Corn was decent too. Ribs were average and so was the brisket and pulled pork. The half chicken was probably the best of the lot. Juicy and thankfully needed none of the sauces we didn't care for. Maybe I've just been spoiled with the amazing BBQ I've tried in Tx and back home. This was a whole lot of hype for a local place who seems average. If you do venture out this way i suggest maybe just go yourself or with another person and get the chicken. It's not a place to get orders to go for a large family. No family meals. No kids meals. No Sampler Meals. Fast Service. Efficient. Nothing that would make me go back. read more

This is hands down our favorite bbq restaurant. We eat here anytime we are traveling through Chattanooga. The atmosphere is great. Definitely a good place for kids. I've been coming to Chattanooga from Texas for the past three years and can't believe I hadn't been here before. Everything was so delicious! We ordered ribs, brisket, brisket tacos, chicken, pinto beans, and corn. I vouch for all of these items. The tacos were wrapped in authentic hand made corn tortillas and the beans tasted the way they should- like Tex-Mex charro beans. Coming from Texas, this means a lot! When they say the south is known for good barbecue, they mean places like these!! The menu has a large variety of different types of meals with the most tender meat. They have a gorgeous view of the mountains and the city too. My boyfriend ordered the catfish plate which was breaded really well, and it didn't feel greasy at all. It was flaky and served with an really great sauce. The "nachos" with brisket are AMAZING, I will be thinking about this meal later lol if the potatoes were sliced a bit more thinly like Au gratin, it would make the whole dish perfect and easier to eat together with the meat. The variety was excellent (chicken, pork, brisket, ribs) and the prices were great (compared to Florida standards)! The view over the cliff was excellent. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, but were relaxed in a true Southern fashion (they weren't in a rush and you shouldn't be either). Tried a sampler with chicken, brisket, and pork and it was all excellent. The food is cooked without a lot of seasoning, but they provide you with a plethora of sauces so you can get the taste ya want. What a great find! We were passing the town, found this place accidentally and we are so happy we did. Everything we tried was cooked to perfection, meat falling off the bones and oh so flavorful! Home made sausage , pulled pork, wood fried okra, everything was truly delicious. On top of it super fast and friendly service - there was a line at the entrance, but we moved quickly and were able to sit right away. Even though they move about quickly, the staff was still taking time to explain meals and offer assistance when needed. Tables were sanitized and overall area is kept very clean and COVID-conscious. The portions were on the smaller side, I was full but for $16 i expected more. The wait staff wass awesome and all the sauces were interesting and flavorful. The meat was just OK. It was not bad but it was not great. I won't try any of those again. The pork was kind of bland and it was served Luke warm like it had been in a tray for awhile. The brisket was moist and tender with some flavor but kind of muted. The were cooked well but again muted in the flavor department. I had to sauce everything which I really don't like doing. This was our second time we have been to Sugar's the first being some 3 years ago. We couldn't wait to make the stop. Let's start off by saying Darrel was an outstanding host and server. We stopped by late at night and were 2 of 3 people in the place but while we were leaving 10 folks were standing in the parking lot talking about how great the food was that night and it was near closing time and on Monday night. Service and quality of food were amazing. The brisket and rotisserie chicken were the best were have ever had. We make it a habit if eating BBQ every place we go in the country and Sugar's is the best we have come across. We travel between Florida and Indiana and will make this stop going to and coming back from both places every time. Open 7 days a week with a great old school atmosphere and a great jukebox! You get to pick your own songs at no cost to the customer. Awesome just awesome place to eat. read more

Honestly? I was kind of disappointed. I'll start with the positives - everything you've heard about the ribs is true. They truly are the juiciest, most tender ribs I've ever tasted. They fall off the bone and they have such an incredibly satisfying texture. However, I am sorry to report that the sauces are barely so-so. There's 6 of them that I encountered and all of them were forgettable. Either they were one-note or just entirely not good at all. Such outstanding meat deserves a good sauce to keep it warm. I ended up taking most of my ribs home and using my own BBQ sauce from another favorite ribs place from back home. I was also unimpressed with the baked beans or the corn on the cob. The corn wasn't sweet and they didn't offer any butter to go with it. I was particularly excited about the corn bread muffins since they looked good on other people's plates, but I was also let down by those too - I didn't even eat both of mine and I didn't want to take those home either. My advice is that if you're going to get the ribs, you'll be happy, but I would recommend taking them home and getting a better sauce to go with them. I'll probably be back to try the smoke sausage or other products on their admittedly impressive menu, but for now, three stars is about as good as I can offer. read more

Very disappointed. I stopped for lunch today and arrived shortly after they opened. I ordered the barbecue pork butt plate with collard greens, cornbread muffins and grilled onions. I'm sure I was served leftover meat from yesterday. It was barely warm, the portion was small, and it was overcooked. It had way more of the tough outer pieces than a serving should've had. The bread was not done in the center. There was nothing special about the collard greens. They tasted as though they had just been dumped out of a can and heated. The onions were lightly grilled and not done all the way through. When I pay more than $15 (not counting the tip) I expect much better fare. read more
