Located just down the hill from Swedish hospital, I can see this place being the perfect little bakery to relax and enjoy a sweet treat. The service was nice, the pastry display was cute and there were even plants for sale! However, the slice of pink champagne cake that I had was disappointing. Despite looking pretty, the crumb was dry, the jam was nothing special, and the icing was so thick and tasteless that I didn't eat it. For $8.25 a slice, I would much rather buy cake from Safeway. There is limited seating with 6 small tables inside and 2 outside. There is no compost or recycling, only trash. Maybe it was a bad day for them but with so many other good bakeries in the area, I don't recommend that you visit this location.

A great bakery filled with delicious treats! They had many great options to pick from! I got their sandwich and a chocolate croissant. It was very yummy and everything I want from a croissant! I want to go back to try a cake (the cake slices look so good!) and a drink! Everyone was also super friendly!

Searching on yelp for coffee and pastries and came across Sugar Bakery so decided we should try it. We got there around 9am, so the place was quite busy. There isn't much seating inside (I believe there were a few tables on one side, but it is quite cramped in there). Even with the long line, the staff worked really hard to get people in and out as quickly as possible. If you have about 20 minutes or so, would recommend grabbing a coffee and pastry to go! I tried the iced latte with the cardamom and ginger syrup-- it was great. Not too sweet and perfect balance of spices. My friend had the pandan latte and it was also delicious-- the flavor was surprisingly aromatic and not overwhelming. The pastries all look great. We watched as the staff was actively laminating dough and it was really cool to see. They were out of the potato and sausage quiche, so I tried the bacon and egg breakfast sandwich (on an English muffin). This was also flavorful; I believe there was a tomato paste or something of the sort that had a little spicy kick to it and much made the sandwich even better.

Super yummy chocolate croissant and latte, selection was super limited since it was the end of the day (about an hour before they closed) this location is also super tight. Still a good experience I would've loved to hit a bigger location in the morning when there's a wider selection. service was great. Cute little spot. The selection and tightness of this location are the only takeaways leaving it from being 5 stars.

Such. A. Good. Find! Woke up needing a little treat this morning so we stopped inside Sugar Bakery and I will 1000% be back. Interior was so quaint and cozy. Some tables and chairs but not a lot of space, though I imagine the window seats are highly sought after. I ordered the havarti croissant and it was divine. So buttery and delicious, but I think the star of the show was the jam scone. They use locally made strawberry jam which I'll have to find out where they get it from bc it was divine. The scone base also tastes so nostalgic in a way. Very cake-like. Service was impeccable. Overall 11/10 experience. Will be back (esp to try the pandan coconut cupcake)!!

On the Everlong quest for morning, pastries, and coffee... I was thrown into a personal review from my significant other how this place has the best pastries that she's had in a long time. Granted I hold a high level in this department because it might be one of the most reviewed quick snacks in my yelp history. They did have some interesting flavor profiles, which to be honest most of the time I'm not a huge fan of I tend to like the classics. I'm old and sat in my ways. Sure, she tried a couple interesting winter time, seasonal pastries, and though they were good, I do not feel they were the best and for that reason giving it a four star I honestly think just a little further down the road there are some Chinese bakeries that are just doing it better bigger and cheaper With that said they have good apple size pastries here, but it will not be crowned king

I got the birthday cake slice after seeing great reviews online, and I can say this place is not worth it. The cake was dry, flavorless and expensive, it resembled something that I could get down the street at QFC. I didn't finish it because it literally tasted like nothing and felt like a waste of calories very disappointed.

If you are on first hill and desire a sweet treat this is the place to come. Sugar Bakery has delicious treats. The champagne cake was so moist, perfect display of sweet and raspberry. The pecan shortbread cookie was devine, with a flavorful blend of Carmel pecan and shortbread. We also got the crème brûlée cake and chocolate brownie cookie and they both were fabulous. Staff are very sweet and friendly.

I got a delicious crème brûlée cake, and the red velvet cupcakes looked good as well. Most of the bakeries do pastries and not cakes, so happy to have some cake. The spot is a cozy neighborhood cafe with outdoor seating and outlets if you want to work here. Staff was helpful and nice!

Been here several times, finally brought my parents so they could try it. Hyped the place up and from the beginning, the lady at the cash register was rude and immediately had attitude with us and unsure why. Saw her smiling, kind, chatty and warm to other customers. Unfortunately, left a sour taste in our mouths and no longer feel welcome here as I did before. To top it off, my turkey n Swiss croissant had a short pubic looking hair stuck in it. Went into this excited and left sad and disappointed

For cake that melts in your mouth, not in your hand, little teeny tiny drops of Ambrosia like heaven that hits your taste buds greater than any indica could ever This is the best cake I said imagine nectar of the gods seriously. This right here is a slice of Nirvana and its literal since Seattle. The only other place this good is in Georgetown

We got a matcha float with mochi and a hojicha float with mochi. We love the hojicha better. The matcha is prob one of the better I've tasted, but not often you can find hojicha ice cream and milk tea. It was creamy and mildly sweet. So good, refreshing and satisfying! The mochi were ok. It was very bland and not sweet at all. I do prefer my mochi to have a little sweetness to them, like a sweet bite. This was like chewing a bigger non sweet boba ball. So I'd pass on the mochi here and maybe do all ice cream. If ever we're in Seattle would visit again. Update: we came here a few yrs later. The drinks were still good as ever. My husband got a frappe and loved it. We had a salmon bowl which was decent. Not something I would order again here but we were so hungry from traveling and meeting friends, we needed some food. This time no line out the door. We got a seat inside. We came in June this yr, nice weather outside but inside was super hot as they did not run the AC. They had the windows/doors open but no breeze and mosquitos were inside attacking. I can't imagine a good breeze when the cafe is wedged btw two huge buildings. It made our visit this time very stifling.

This comes in a very large cup, with layers of matcha ice cream, cornflakes, vanilla whippedd cream, and mochi at the bottom. I'll be honest that the matcha ice cream wasn't my favorite. I'm not a huge fan of matcha in general, but I have had examples where the sweetness balances with the earthiness better - and this felt like it leaned too much into the earthiness side of it. It just tasted off when mixed with everything else. What was exceptional, though, was the second and third layers. Mixing the cornflakes with the vanilla whipped cream/yogurt layer was awesome. The crunchy texture provided with the creamy vanilla flavor really worked - and it felt like what the essence of a parfait is with the textural and flavor contrast. I think I would've liked this a lot more if the top had been vanilla ice cream instead - submitting a request to have that as an option on the menu. This was pretty expensive. It cost 14 dollars for a single parfait. That's just a crazy amount. I know it's pretty big, but it's simply overpriced. Overall, it's a decent but not very practical dessert. 5.5/10

The curly fries are a must if you're here & looking for a savory snack. The ice cream is a must, too! We particularly loved the seasonal miso caramel and wish it wasn't only seasonal. They offer two flavors, Hokkaido Milk and Matcha, and I went with the swirl because I wanted the best of both worlds. I usually prefer my ice cream plain so I can focus on the flavor itself, but they do offer mochi and syrup toppings if you want to dress it up. I was actually a little surprised to see the strawberry syrup was sold out, which weirdly made me even more intrigued -- but in the end, I still stuck with the ice cream as is. The shop itself is a small pickup window attached to a larger Japanese restaurant, and it seems like a very cost-effective way to run the business. It also appeared to be operated by just two people, which made the whole operation even more impressive. When I went, there was a long line that stretched a good way down the street, but the wait moved quickly -- I spent about 15 minutes waiting to order and had my ice cream within minutes. The Hokkaido Milk was the standout for me: incredibly rich, creamy, and smooth. As someone who loves a good vanilla profile, I was very into it. The Matcha was also done really well, with just the right bitterness to balance the sweetness and complement the milk. I tried to isolate each flavor in every bite so I could appreciate them on their own, and I'm glad I did. By the time I finished, I was completely satisfied, but low-key wanted another round. I exercised great self-control though :D

I wasn't impressed by the portion size or how diluted the matcha tasted, but I still remembered enjoying the Hokkaido milk soft serve. REGULAR - 6.50 + Hokkaido Milk +2 for M.B.R (Mochi + Brown sugar syrup + Roasted soybean powder) The Hokkaido milk soft serve was smooth, creamy, and subtly milky without being overly sweet. The flavor itself is pretty mild, so I'd definitely recommend adding the M.B.R. The mochi was a bit stale, but the brown sugar syrup added a nice depth of sweetness, and the roasted soybean powder gave the soft serve a nutty, toasty flavor. These two toppings definitely elevated the soft serve for me. Overall, a quick and casual dessert spot in the area. We sat at one of the tables outside and enjoyed our soft serve.
