It was my first time going to Sugar Bakery, and it'll be my last. Friends/coworkers have brought food from here that has been absolutely delicious, but the service is rude. I used uber to place a pick up order for a London fog & almond croissant. I wasn't aware that there is an unspoken rule, that even though there is an ipad that alerts the staff an order has been placed with a clear expected pick up time, customers need to make staff aware a placed an order for pick up so they can start making it. Don't worry, if you don't know this unspoken rule, a rude staff member will let you know. Should've just ordered Starbucks. read more

First I will say that we picked up some brunch items. I did not get pics. We had the vegetarian potato quiche, chocolate croissant, vegetarian breakfast sandwich, and a salted caramel croissant. Everyone was pleased, though a little pricey. The cafe is small but could be cozy if not too crowded. I had such high hopes for the cake, especially because it was for my birthday. The cake was not great at all. The caramel drip was extremely bitter, so bitter it was hard to eat. The cake layers were burnt and it appears they tried to cut off some of the burnt parts, leaving the layers so thin and the filling ratio out of balance. I was so disappointed because this was my birthday cake. Sadly I just cannot return to this bakery when visiting Seattle. read more

Located just down the hill from Swedish hospital, I can see this place being the perfect little bakery to relax and enjoy a sweet treat. The service was nice, the pastry display was cute and there were even plants for sale! However, the slice of pink champagne cake that I had was disappointing. Despite looking pretty, the crumb was dry, the jam was nothing special, and the icing was so thick and tasteless that I didn't eat it. For $8.25 a slice, I would much rather buy cake from Safeway. There is limited seating with 6 small tables inside and 2 outside. There is no compost or recycling, only trash. Maybe it was a bad day for them but with so many other good bakeries in the area, I don't recommend that you visit this location. read more

Searching on yelp for coffee and pastries and came across Sugar Bakery so decided we should try it. We got there around 9am, so the place was quite busy. There isn't much seating inside (I believe there were a few tables on one side, but it is quite cramped in there). Even with the long line, the staff worked really hard to get people in and out as quickly as possible. If you have about 20 minutes or so, would recommend grabbing a coffee and pastry to go! I tried the iced latte with the cardamom and ginger syrup-- it was great. Not too sweet and perfect balance of spices. My friend had the pandan latte and it was also delicious-- the flavor was surprisingly aromatic and not overwhelming. The pastries all look great. We watched as the staff was actively laminating dough and it was really cool to see. They were out of the potato and sausage quiche, so I tried the bacon and egg breakfast sandwich (on an English muffin). Such. A. Good. Find! Woke up needing a little treat this morning so we stopped inside Sugar Bakery and I will 1000% be back. Interior was so quaint and cozy. Some tables and chairs but not a lot of space, though I imagine the window seats are highly sought after. I ordered the havarti croissant and it was divine. So buttery and delicious, but I think the star of the show was the jam scone. They use locally made strawberry jam which I'll have to find out where they get it from bc it was divine. Hi Community, I went in there around 1:40pm today and was met by 2 faces. One was bubbly and immediately gave me an enthusiastic "hi" which I returned, the other was this younger brownish haired young girl with a ponytail. Her attitude was sour! There was no greeting nothing, just rude. The one who spoke asked for what I was gathering and although it was easy just 2 cookies, the younger one still had this look that I wasn't acceptable to be in there. As an older black woman I know entitlement and racism when I see it. My total was 7.50 and I was paying with cash as there was no signs that said they didn't take cash I said with a puzzled look "I didn't see a sign saying that" the younger one snatched back my bags and said I just work here shrugged and was walking off, not seeing that I had my phone to pay. Then got quiet. I wish I had a way to just tip the other girl because her energy was wonderful, but the cashier seemed to be apparently annoyed that this black woman interrupted her conversation to buy 2 cookies. I would hope that as a business located directly in Seattle you wouldn't hired racist young people and make sure your employees have proper customer service skills and etiquette. It was close to my hotel. So I went. The place looks a bit run down, but had a local vibe. Woman taking orders was near to impossible to understand as was her patience. But the employees seemed happy making their daily treats and coffee. I had the cinnamon brioche which was lovely. My wife ordered the meat and potato quiche but instead was given a veggie one. She liked it even though it wasn't what she ordered. We both got cappuccinos, which were mediocre at best. Rude service: I was patiently waiting in line when an older lady very clearly cut in front of me. I thought she was just looking at the pastries in front of me but she walked up to the register when the gals in front of us were done. I clearly stated to her when she did this, in front of the staff, that I was in line before her; staff heard me say it and looked like deer caught in headlights. Wth?
