It must be a confusing menu on purpose just to hype it up, or pretend they are upscale authentic, which is not, besides the mega oily corn tortilla chip, everything else was not all that, specially the tamal, what an insult. The hubby and I enjoyed our date night at Suerte on a Friday night. We arrived at 8pm without a reservation and waited the estimated 1hr 15m to be sat. But we stayed at the standing tables where there was a cocktail waitress and ordered a couple of light bites and drinks while we waited. We were then sat at the bar for dinner. All of the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The vibe is very vibrant and hip. The food is downright delicious and creative but familiar (not too far out there). The cocktails look beautiful! It was a little loud but she's chill in her car seat. At first glance I thought we were the only family with a kid but as we left, I spotted another baby and little girl at separate tables. (The other baby was in a high chair, so that's possible!) This is not a family friendly chain restaurant with squishy booth seating. As a new mom, atmosphere, comfort, and service are high on my list when deciding where to dine. Suerte hit the mark on all these points. Sooooo... my hubby and I go out to eat. We like to go often and order all the things. We're willing to spend on culinary greatness. So I saved the best for last... the food. Flavor. Texture. Presentation. Check... check... and check. You can't go wrong with Suadero Tacos, Fish a la Devil, Peches y Mangos, and the Chocolate con Churros. Those were my favorite dishes but I don't know how I decided bc everything else we ate was amazing... sweet corn, chips and salsa, and daily special taquitos. it's fine. quite nice actually. albeit rather pretentious & noisy in my opinion. let's not kid ourselves; this is street food. the price is just inflated & a valet parks your car. still, i admit it's very good street food. my only specific food complaint is that some of it was way too salty - specifically the brisket tacos, which was a real shame. i really hope it was just the batch i got, because otherwise those were some fine tacos. it would be a real shame if they ruined them this way every day. anyway, i might drop in again sometime for a happy hour or something. but if that never happens, i won't really miss it. like i said - it's fine. just don't expect to be totally blown away like some of these other reviewers & you'll probably be fine too. read more

Lots to live up to here. Aquachile shrimp started out with a bang - not too acidic, well balanced with earthy blue corn masa chips. Great with mezcal. Next course was just as tasty - brisket tacos and lengua like you've never had it. Mains were good - duck mole didn't quite equal Fonda's duck enchiladas (I'm a duck man) but carne asada filled us up. I think the way to approach the menu is to ask the server and pick whatever seems interesting, not an appetizer then main. I came with my girlfriend on the 4th night since opening, so I'm sure things will get better as they tweak things through and the team gains experience points. I wish I could give this place a higher rating but I'm up in the restroom at 4:30 AM with an upset stomach to say the least. The fault is sorta on me though, I knew the churro was not fully cooked and I knew this would upset my stomach yet I still ate it for some dumb reason. I told the staff about this and also gave other feedback on other items, good and bad. They were very kind with the service and appreciated the feedback that they gave us the dinner for free as a gratitude for the feedback. I feel like an ass writing this review but it is in good heart that I do it. I think it was the churros, in Spanish we say "me enpanzaron" when dough is undercooked and makes you sick. The chicken mole was extra salty though so maybe it was that. And what I just puked was the barbacoa, so maybe it was a combination? My stomach isn't weak though, I eat in Mexico of off street vendors frequently so my guess was that it was the churros being undercooked. WOW. First new restaurant in Austin to actually deliver on all the hype (looking at you Loro ). Top to bottom, every aspect of the dining experience was truly top notch. Started with a couple cocktails from the bar as we arrived a little early and was not disappointed. The Don Dario, with its subtle yet well blended flavors, was one of the best drinks I've really ever had. Started off with the snapper tostada, which had an ample portion of fresh snapper nestled below a top layer of avocado slices. Despite the chili mayo, the tostado maintains it's perfect crunch. A nice, light starter. Next, we got yes saudero tacos. The dish came with 4 pretty decent tacos topped with guacamole, which was an extremely pleasant surprise given their relatively inexpensive price tag and deliciousness. For entrees, we opted for the carne asada & goat barbacoa. While the carne asada was very good (the fried little potato balls mixed in the whipped potatoes are a nice touch), the goat was the show stealer. Served with 3 "sauces", the dish was a can't miss. Finished off the meal with the light & airy panna cotta, a perfect ending to a nearly perfect meal. Bottom line is, if you haven't been yet, make it a major dining priority very, very soon! read more

The food was incredible, the ambiance and atmosphere was top notch, and the service was amazing. What a great place to spend a special occasion, we felt very warm and welcome here. It reminded us of a restaurant in Mexico City - so authentic. Can't wait to come back and bring out of town friends. You MUST try the suadero tacos - places like Franklins and Valentina's are great, but they don't compare to the suadero tacos here. BEST. EVER. So, update time. After my last review of Suerte, the Manager, Aaron, reached out to us both, and was very professional. EXACTLY how a response should be, and it's amazing to me that it's so rare from other establishments. Major kudos to Aaron and Suerte for this! We stopped by last night, and as always it was busy! We were early, thinking we'd get a drink at the bar, whilst waiting for our table, but it was ready, so we sat right away. Carla served us again, and was pleased to see us return. We had some great drinks, I had a mezcal margarita this time, very tasty! Started with the same lentil app, some ceviche and a sweet corn dish, both very good. Same for the main course as last time also. Carla asked if I wanted the 'black magic oil' on the side, as she was aware of how insanely hot it was last time (and explained that the peppers are so perfect and bright right now, maybe they were hotter than usual). I cautiously tried the oil, and decided to go for it when applying to my Suadero Tacos. I used it all. Compared to last time, I'd say it was maybe 20% of the heat, and it was just right! In summary, a great meal. Staff were attentive in clearing plates, yet not intrusive. Food was excellent, as were the drinks. We'll definitely be back to try some more of the menu, and for their Mezcal Mondays too! read more

Delicious), Chips Salsa Y Caldera Cheddar (every chip touched by cheese & salsa), Peaches and Mangos (perfect blend of sweetness & mild goat cheese) and oh my goodness Goat Barbacoa (needs no explanation). Suerte is one of the best meals I have ever had. Our group has a combination of vegetarians and meat lovers, and there menu really catered to us all. We started with a few delicious cocktails, the chips with lentils/yoghurt, beef tartare, and aquachile. The coconut lime sauce on the aquachile was so decadent and light. I will be attempting to replicate it at home. We also shared the quesadilla (my favorite dish), suadero tacos (everyone else's favorite dish), and the grilled sweet papas. Suerte, you get all the stars! First of all, that door , am I right? And then you go inside... the decor is perfection. Our lovely server told us the history of many of the decorative items inside, all either made by local east side artisans or made in Oaxaca. But it gets better... the food. Ah, the food. Perfect. Went to suerte last night for a bite, the wait was 1hr 45 mins, so we decided to carry out. We ordered the suadero tacos. I will preface my review with the fact that we learned about suerte on a Netflix documentary about the Mexican street taco Culture and how suaderos are the great leveler. The taco for all. After suerte was hyped right up, I was expecting the best taco of my life - it was not. I paid 16$ for 4 tiny tacos that didn't even come with salsa. You had to pay 2$ extra for salsa. what kind of sadist makes you pay extra for salsa on a taco in Texas? Really? I will say that it did come with guac and the guac was good but not the best guac of my life. The taco was good, but it did not live up to the expectations of the documentary. I mean barely 4oz of meat - not worth $64 a pound. With that said, the restaurant had a cool vibe, and we got our food fairly fast for how busy it was - but it's about the same as every other place in Austin, not sure if I'll be back. This - This Is just another trend of the week restaurant decorated with the same Decor as every other trend of the week restaurant with old lights and reclaimed wood. And It's packed because it's trendy right now. I swear to God I bet there are people that write good reviews of this place and others just so they can go with the crowd. The velvety richness and unadulterated flavors of the Saudero Tacos to the unbelievably sublime, nuanced complexity and delight of the Tamal Mole Blanco is the dreamiest of all dreamy bites. Squash and Eggplant imagined and perfectly executed in your mind to our palates lingers long after the last bite..........the perfect char and smoke on that eggplant is truly unforgettable. Suadero Tacos - one word - AMAZING! I saw Suerte mentioned in the Netflix show, Taco Chronicles (must watch for taco lovers!) and immediately made a reservation to go and try the suadero tacos. Hands down, best I've ever had and I know true, authentic Mexican food! The first bite will leave you speechless! Ok, I'm drooling on my keyboard now thinking about already going back. Our waitress was amazing and give her 5 Stars as well. Ambience and quickness of seating and service deserve 5 Stars! My wife had the chicken quesadillas and they were also great.
