    Gin tasting
    Gargi R.

This place is truly a paradise for Gin lovers! The first thing you notice when you walk in is their huge gin wall. We made a reservation for Saturday and were quickly seated when we arrived. They have a huge selection of Gin cocktails. But, we ordred the gin flight from around the world as it seemed like the place to try it. We got to try gin from India, Colombia, Mexico and Japan. It was a fun experience comparing the different Gin, I would highly recommend it. The food was tasty too. We got the mussels, meatball burger and Brussels sprouts. Everything was so delicious. I'm looking forward to visiting Joli again.

Joli is an intimate bar in the Ballard area close to the Goodwill and a couple minutes west of Green Lake. We made reservations online at 8:30pm and were seated immediately for a party of two. They are mainly a gin bar with martinis, gin cocktails, and gin flights on their drinks menu. My first drink was the gin-icillin ($17) which was a penicillin but with gin. It was smoky from the Laphroaig but had that clean flavor that was easy to drink. My second drink was the last word ($18) which was not on the menu but was just as delicious as the first drink if not more so. We had a funny conversation with our server afterward where he said that they barely had enough green chartreuse for my drink and just finished the rest of the bottle themselves. For food we ordered the truffles fries ($9) and they were a very good shareable snack with nice truffle flavors and aromas. This was a cute bar with some very friendly servers and we spent a couple hours hanging out here.

My boyfriend and I were looking for a cozy, neighborhood feel kind of restaurant while visiting Seattle. We found Joli and it had good reviews and the ambiance looked cool. While the ambiance was cool and loved how it looked inside, the food was just meh. I feel bad saying that but we just weren't blown away by the food. The chicken sandwich was too crispy for my liking, if that makes sense. The chicken sandwich also doesn't come with a side or fries But the dessert was really tasty Besides that everything else was really nice and I liked how much of a gin selection they had! I've never seen a bar have so much gin to choose from

This chic, Asian/Mexican fusion restaurant is severely underrated and deserves every bit of attention and recognition! New management has completely turned this place around into a 5 star facility, and it is not common that a place can give me 5 star service. My expectations were exceeded. Every dish I tried was phenomenal, I kid you not. Ingredients I never thought would go together actually worked. My biggest favorites were: 1, corn bisque, which I will surely dream about. Served cold and unlike anything I've ever tasted. The blend of sweet creamy corn bisque, chili oil, a little radish and green onion...it's the ultimate comfort food dish that pulls you in within the first bite and leaves you wanting to order 5 more after. And 2: the charred broccolini. Wow...do not pass this one up. Even the pickiest of eaters who don't like veggies will fall in love with this dish. The crunchy chili flakes are excellent enough to be paired with just about anything, and really compliments the char on the broccolini without it being overwhelming. A light spiciness with great flavor and adds to the delicious creamed green garlic sauce. With a new curated menu about every month, you're able to try different things and find new favorites. No two dishes taste alike, they each have their own unique flavors. The servers are knowledgeable with the menu items, very personable and make you feel right at home. They also have an extended amount of gin's; if that isn't your thing, their other drinks are just as great, including lavender or sage lemonade. Do NOT sleep on this place! Every dish is a work of art and you can taste the love that was put into it. Thank me later, you'll be glad you went. ;)

Came out on a random Thursday and boy was this place packed! This may be the hot place to grab some seats at the bar and to order a few drinks, but the food fell a bit underwhelming. I ordered the burger and my wife ordered the truffle fries and the Brussels sprouts. Burger: huge burger and definitely satiates your craving for meat. The cheese was heavy (a good thing) and it was very saucy and delicious. The cucumbers hit pretty weird at first, but as you continue with the burger, it was actually pretty fitting and added a nice refreshing crunch. The burger itself could be seasoned a tad bit more, but overall it was pretty solid. Fries: a must with burgers or beer. It was a tad salty (which ironically, could have been added to the burger), but it did it's job. Brussel sprouts: now this is the tricky part. At first, I LOVED it. It had this sweetness to it that I never tasted before, which I'm attributing to the honey vinegar. Very reminiscent of balsamic vinegar. But as I continued on, the sweetness became a bit overwhelming, and I had to step away from it for a while. Definitely for a sweet tooth like me, but maybe a bit too sweet for my overall liking. Overall, not bad of a restaurant. The service was a bit slow, as there seemed to be only one server managing the food flow of the entire place. I'll be up for trying their happy hour menu and dabble in their myriad of gins. But that can wait for another day.

Accompanied with fellow Yelper/IGer Wendy K, we meandered by Joli, looked at the posted menu, saw the place was mostly full, decided to step in to check it out, best decision made! (5/28/21, posted 8/22/21) Sadly, we missed their happy hour by a few minutes. Bonus, scored the last available table as we saw others after us waiting their turn. Noted a lot of takeout too. Seeing HH food going to other tables, I can see why. Service on point. Bartender, host staff, wait staff, and kitchen staff working all in synch. Overall dining experience was very positive, from start to finish. Delicious on the house app while we waited. Amazing entrees. And fresh malasadas with caramel sauce as the dessert exclamation point. Great company. Joli has the energetic vibe. Delicious food well worth the wait. This place had been on my radar screen and bookmarked for awhile. I'm glad that both Wendy and I stopped in. Always fun dining out with Wendy! Looking forward to a another opportunity to dine at Joli again. Terrific neighborhood gem!

My first visit here was with fellow Yelper Marie B we noticed a lot of people ordering the burger around us. This time guess what I ordered and now I know why. now 1/2 lb. painted hills beef patty, shredded iceberg, white cheddar, bacon jam, house pickles, brioche. One of the best burgers I've had in a long time. Thanks to my friend for collecting on a free plate of truffle fries with chipotle raspberry ketchup that paired perfectly. This place is known for their gins. Two cocktails shown are off the $10 HH menu on the left now I know why. 1/2 lb. painted hills beef patty, shredded iceberg, white cheddar, bacon jam, house pickles, brioche. One of the best burgers I've had in a long time. Thanks to my friend for collecting on a Yelp freebie of truffle fries with chipotle raspberry ketchup which paired perfectly with the burger. Two cocktails shown are off the $10 HH menu on the left Butterfly Martini- GinUK, dolin blanc, grapefruit bitters, and on the right Earl Grey Bee's Knees- Earl grey infused GinUK, honey, lemon, special bergamot bitters. Also just realized only one picture posted from my first visit but you can see photos from our first visit on her review.

We walked in as a party of 2 on a Thursday around 9pm and it was not too busy - probably half the bar was occupied. We opted to sit at one end of the bar because the bar seats are where the vibes are at. The place is decorated in a fairly elegant and old school manner, so you are somewhat transported away from the outside reality. We got the Tobe's Thique Mint and Garden Party. I loved the creaminess and cinnamon afternotes of Tobe's Thique Mint, and it also looks somewhat pretty. It is quite a heavy drink, so one was enough to fill me up. The Garden Party was a bit of a miss since as much as I tasted the orange and grapefruit, it was a very light drink and tasted a little watered down. The biggest plus is that the drinks are fairly affordable compared to the greater Seattle area, priced at $14. I liked how their menu says 14 for $14, as they have just 14 cocktails to choose from and the drinks seem to rotate seasonally. For us, we went just in time to still have the spring menu, but they will change to the summer menu on June 20.

We ordered munchies and drinks while we waited for our table at Delancey. The bartender / server knew we would be headed to Delancey in 40 minutes or so, and handled things well accordingly. We got a plate of olives (tasty, great finger food) and drinks. The Yonder cider was good, not too sweet. The Martini was tasty. I had two quibbles: The first was with the pricing: the martini was charged as two separate items: 1) gin (I suppose the charge varies by the kind of gin or vodka in your martini) 2) martini (which is apparently the non-vodka or or non-gin part of your drink) While I'm sure this makes it easier to track for the bartender and inventory, as well as for charging, as a customer, it's a little odd to have a mixed drink be a two-part charge. The second was the included 20% automatic gratuity. I don't object to the concept of a standard service charge, I just wish it had been more prominently displayed so that I wouldn't have added a 20% tip on top of that (and my tip was on the amount that included tax, service charge and drinks / food). So, buyer beware ... the service is good, the ambiance is nice, the food and drinks are good -- but the payment / billing is non-standard, and can cause unexpected surprises.

I am showing my age by saying the restaurant is VERY LOUD, and our table was in a very dark spot in the restaurant. Oddly, they didn't have enough table lamps for all the dark tables. Our server said they "ran out". How does that happen? I stalked a departing table to take their rechargeable lamp. Anyway, my expectations were likely too high going in, and I was annoyed before even ordering, turning on our cellphone light to read the menu. The food is pretty good, though not mind-blowing good like the reviews suggest, and we had one bad dish. They offer varied Khmer dishes beyond noodle varieties, which is a plus. Go if you are looking for variety, skip the fish, bring ear plugs, and hope you have a brighter table than ours. Parking is street only. 3 Stars for the food, minus 1 star for the restaurant environment (unrelated to staff) The Food: k'tiss dip with crudités, $18 - 4 Stars We chose the marrow stone blue oyster mushroom option - p'set. The mushrooms are sautéed in Khmer seasonings, fermented bean curd, and coconut milk. The veggies are mildly pickled. They paired surprisingly well and a unique dish to try. kroeung kumeraage, $15 - 4 Stars This dish has an option of fried chicken or fried mushrooms. We chose the chicken since we already had mushrooms. Kroeung is the Khmer seasoning. Our server said this dish and papaya salad are amongst the most popular. Since we have a veggie dish, we chose this over the papaya salad (which looks great, too). The chicken is lightly fried, not crispy outside, super tender, and paired well with the kroeung aioli. trei chmouy tuk tei omperi, $40 - 1 Star The menu says serves 2 but not really. The is a pan seared fish, make your own fish wrap. We did not know we ordered a DIY dish, which is ok in principle, just not good to be surprised. The menu doesn't say so; the server didn't mention it. Luckily, by this time of the meal, we have acquired the little table lamp, which enabled me to see the long fish bones that had not been removed. FIVE of them. The noodles are a pathetic overcooked limp pile. The best part is the turmeric sauce. Do not order this dish. Epilogue: I happened to walk by Sophon this past weekend. I was surprised to see a sign saying they are temporarily closed to resolve internal issues. (See photo) That is never a good reflection of management. There is now a GoFundMe for the unpaid staff who had to quit their jobs.

What I loved: Oh man, every dish was delightful. I found something to savor and repeat in each of the dishes we were served. From the sweetness of the heirloom tomatoes, to the creamy burrata, from the crispy potatoes, to the fresh peas and everything in between. Our least favorite, at the table was the mushroom Angnolotti, inconsistent from bite to bite. The presentation of the Carrot & Tahini dip was a bit haphazard compared to the rest of the dishes served, but the flavor was still lovely. Why I loved it: The service was unparalleled, comfortable yet professional and quick to offer recommendations for our larger party. The decorations and quaint spaces truly welcoming, and the food, excellent. Cost: High ($40+ per person)
