We were planning on going to aa sushi next door, but then I noticed this new place and saw they have a happy hour, so I had to stop in first. It's rare to find places with happy hour food menus. There were only a few people inside when we came in, so we got our choice of tables. I stuck with the happy hour menu since it looked better than the pricing on the regular menu, which matched typical Italian food in Seattle prices. We ordered the Bolognese rigatoni and Lucifera pizza. The pizza came out extremely quick and tasted good. There was a decent amount of pepperoni on top, but I prefer more cheese coverage usually. Really delicious food! So many options for pizza and they even had pasta options. We got the burrata and a pizza to share between two people. It was plenty of food! The burrata doesn't come with bread so we just ate it like a salad since it was on a bed of arugula. Also got the holiday margarita which was amazing and smelled like Christmas time in a cup. Not overly sweet or spicy but really balanced. They had plenty of seating for larger parties too. Service was amazing! They're currently set up for Halloween and the decor was really cute. read more

The minute you walk in, you just get slapped by the scent of freshly made pizza. It's a small menu that packs great flavor and great ingredients. The crust on this was delicious. Thin, bubbly crust but surprisingly holds up well and had a little "chew". The pasta, both the wild boar ravioli and trofie, SO SO good. The filling in the ravioli was well seasoned. And I'm sure people come here for the pizza, but don't sleep on the pasta dishes! I did end up trying the rice pudding to go, and my god, that was amazing too! read more

This is one of the best Italian restaurants I've been to since visiting Italy with my wife. The quality of the food was amazing, authentic, and all around just good tasting. We had the calamari (family favorite), beet salad, boar ravioli, mushroom pizza, margarita pizza, Prosciutto pizza (personal favorite). It was a lot food and itall tasted great. The pastas and pizza dough are freshly made and you can tell they use good quality ingredients . The service was also amazing. It felt like we were eating at a close friend's house. We went here with my family after my daughter's Christmas recital and glad we did. They were warm, attentive, and they made sure we were taken cared of. It's a great location too, right in downtown Ballard next to Bergen Park. Perfect for people watching while eating, having an intimate dinner, or having a celebration with friends and family. We'll definitely be back and would definitely recommend if want either good food, good service, and good location. So sad to see that Strega has closed, and suddenly without explanation. Stopped by last week and were surprised it was closed, even though the website said it was open. do NOT sleep on this spot in downtown ballard! it might easily be my go-to pizza pasta spot now! had such a wonderful experience at strega. we came on a saturday afternoon and it was not too busy. we were seated right away. the space is bright and comfortable, with a view of the bar and live pizza making!!! we ordered the fritto misto (SO SO SO GOOD!), the batter was light and crispy, seafood fresh, and it came with this lovely bright green parsley oil, top it all off with a squeeze of lemon, and wow!!! this might be the best calamari i have ever had. it was so good, we ordered a second round of it. and that parsley oil, i need a jar of it stat, i keep dreaming of it still... we got two pizzas and a pasta to share amongst the four of us! the pizzas were delightful, the crust perfectly thin and crispy, toppings generous. the sausage is made in house. the mushrooms were so carefully thinly sliced. the red sauce was bright and fresh! the pasta was good too, and i liked that it was a fun shape and hand made! cooked perfectly al dente, it had a good chew to it! read more

Damn!!! This place is so darn good. Strega is so far beyond your traditional pizza and pasta shop. Restaurant and bar was full on a Saturday night and it's easy to see why. We were quickly seated (within 5 minutes) and we were waited on by the owner who was so delightful. We had the burrata, nicoletta pizza and the rigatoni bolognese. All three were out of this world. The seasoning of all three and was perfect and their use a salt was spot on. Cocktails and wine were on point. Great for families or a date night. Fun 80's music and a really cool restaurant space. This may actually be the pizza place I like the most in Seattle. It opened a while ago and I've passed by this place many times in the past. I was feeling extra cheesy one day (which is very rare) so I went for the Nuvola ($21.00, tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, local smoked scamorza , Stracchino cheese). It was my first time trying scamorza, which turned out to be like another kind of mozzarella cheese. The pizza was thin and cheesy and pretty much everything I wanted in pizza. What a new local gem. Came in for some happy hour action and split the happy hour half pizza, pasta, and panuozzo along with some drinks. The pizza crust is absolutely divine and it has to be one of my favorites now in the city! The mozzarella was also so thick and delicious which I wasn't honestly expecting. The panuozzo I think utilized the same crust as the pizza but the filling was so delicious with pistachio and mortadella. I didn't love the pasta as much as it wasn't something too memorable but it wasn't bad either. Lovely servers who work here and they have al fresco dining which is fab. I can't wait to come here for a full dinner experience to try the rest of the menu (especially their pizzas) and I'm excited to see what their salads, meatballs, and desserts are like. read more

Stopped by here on a Friday evening. It was moderately busy but not frenetic and we got a table easily, unfortunately it was way in the back which is much less pleasant than the front area. Music was absolutely BLASTING overhead but when the couple next to us asked that it be turned down, staff quickly took care of it. It took quite a while to get menus, which never feels like a good sign. But aside from that, our waiter was really nice and attentive--I feel like maybe they are understaffed? My friend and I split a beet salad (pretty bog-standard), I got the gnocchi (very unremarkable) and my friend got the Nuvola pizza, which had good flavor but was quite soggy. It wasn't terrible, but it also wasn't that great, especially for the price. Also FYI, the crowd was more families with young antsy children and less romantic date night (nothing wrong with that! Just something to keep in mind). I see such good reviews here and unfortunately that just wasn't my experience. read more

Been here about four times. The pizza is excellent as is the frito misto with shrimp and calamari. Staff couldn't be nicer. Ambience is kind of like a cool bar. Can get a little noisy. Cocktails and nonalcoholic drinks are great. Well worth the trip wherever you're coming from. read more

Excellent pizza. We are New York Italians so very picky about Italian food and have been unhappy with Seattles options. The gnocchi was fantastic, not too dense, tender, melt in your mouth with tasty tomato sauce. Gnocchi is one of my favorite foods when it's good and this made the cut. Panacotta was delish. We have been looking forward to trying Strega since it opened. Sarah serves fantastic crepes and homemade pastas at the Balard and Redmond farmer's markets every weekend, so our expectations were high. Strega did not disappoint. We started with a glass of Montepulciano and a Sarah's Tea cocktail, followed by an arugala and tomatoe salad. For the entrees, we had the special of the night, wild boar ravioli, and a Lucifera (pepperoni) pizza. Everything was fantastic. The owner made the pizza in the amazingly fancy pizza oven - it rotates, goes up and down, adjusts temperature, everything except it doesn't wash the dishes! The pizza tasted so good. The ravioli was homemade by Sarah, and was so delicious. Then came dessert. Rice pudding and cannoli. The rice pudding was amazing, and the cannoli had dark chocolate shavings, pistachios, and candied orange - knock your socks off good! It's not her fault that our service was bad, she was friendly ... but it took several attempts to get things to our table that we had asked for. It is very clear to me that the restaurants understaffed. The pizza was great, the wild boar ravioli we had was way too salty, and the calamari was good as well. We went to Strega with our two little kids and everyone was very accommodating and kind. They have high chairs and while there's not a specific kids menu - you can get pasta with butter sauce or tomato sauce for the little ones. We got burrata, the Angela pizza and the Trofie pasta - they were all delicious. I think the prices were very fair for the high level of ingredients and portions.
