Oh, Johnny Mo's, when it's good it's incredible, and when it's not it's still pretty good. Keeping in mind I've only had their Chicago style pizzas, their tomato sauce was incredibly flavor full on top of a very robust crust. Every part of it was incredibly enjoyable and it was the first time I've had a deep dish pizza stand out so much as its own thing rather than being a dish that's called a pizza. However on subsequent visits, their deep dish pizzas didn't always deliver the highest highs that we did the first time around. It was still good, don't get me wrong and we enjoyed it but there's just a bit of inconsistency that I can't blanket recommend it as the best Chicago style pizza I've had, but sometimes it really is. Lastly, be aware that parking is limited here; plan for other ways to get here, or pick up to swing through really quickly! read more

I'm not really a pizza guy, yet Johnny Mo's Pizzeria blew me away with their delicious pies! Located in Eastlake, right across the Montlake Bridge on the corner of Eastlake Ave & Fuhrman Ave, I came here on a Thursday afternoon and was greeted warmly by the staff. The interior of the restaurant is lined with brick and features modern furniture. There is a bar and a massive kitchen with multiple wood-fired brick ovens. Those ovens definitely make good pizza because we ordered the Margherita pizza and it was incredibly fresh. I loved that the pizza had a thin crust and was not oily at all; what stood out to me most was the sauce and the cheese. Johnny Mo's don't play around with the quality of their pizza; I give the pizza 5 stars! I would say the downside really came down to the lack of AC, which I understand given the pizza ovens, but it was really hot, especially on a summer day. I would also not recommend getting the marinara pasta, as I thought it was very average for what we paid. I will 100% come back down to Johnny Mo's for the lunch deal, would highly recommend if you're in the Seattle area craving good quality pizza! read more

Although I didn't get their lunch deals, I stopped by on a weekday and got their marinara pasta and Margherita pizza. The Margherita pizza was fresh and not oily. The herbs really pulled through. The marinara pasta was good but not as extraordinary as the pizza. The employees are nice and vibes are good however it can really hot in there since there is no fan because the pizza oven. Great little Seattle portage bay neighborhood spot. I was staying with friends who live close by and we wandered down for salad, pizza and drinks. Very homey, comfortable casual environment. The food was excellent! There were 3 of us and we shared the arugula/ prosciutto salad, a Chicago style pepperoni pizza and drinks. The owners were mostly our principal servers and they were competent and fun. My friends are also members of their pizza club which nets them a discount with every visit. Deep dish pizza is a MEAL. But also we got the pasta too because why not, and completely over ate because we lack self control and this is great food. The balance of the pizza was just what I was looking for. It had a substantial bread base, a great spicy sweet sauce, and cheese with that perfect pull. The meat toppings we got (pep/saus) tasted higher quality that what you get elsewhere, real flavor in each bite. Pasta was delicious too, cooked to the right chew, good flavorful sauce. Skillet cookie will get my repeat business (I've had better but this is in the top 10 and I have looooots on my list). Everything here was worth a return visit or two with a helpful waiter and a cozy chill-but-tavern-like vibe. Come here hungry...but also I ate slices warmed up in the microwave for two days after and they remained super delicious because you aren't ptotecting a crust. A solid neighborhood joint for NYish pizza. Seating was fairly easy to get even on a Saturday night although it did really fill up in the time we were there. Lots of drink options but cocktails and beer and an even bigger menu of pizza options. They offer both NY style and Chicago deep dish, though we only tried the NY version this time. We've been going to JM's for a few years with our daughter who just turned 4 on the date of this review. We order a NY pepperoni and a Ditka (for myself) and we usually get salad, tiramisu/cannoli's. AMAZING food, service, atmosphere in person always. Never had ordered out. Long story of why but we ordered a "timed delivery" via toast/uber for her birthday party at home - and closer to party time I notice the uber delivery time is climbing 20, 30, 40+ minutes. Figure it might be a fluke but reach out and restaurant immediately is like, we got this, let us fix it, don't worry about it. Get a call back immediately and the restaurant solves delivery exactly on time, above and beyond what is a complicated situation for the business. Long way of saying, we're already believers/customers for life before this. The food and service for in person is amazing. There's a bit of a wild card for businesses supporting third party delivery, it obviously helps reach their customers but can throw curveballs - Johnny Mo's has an exemplary level of commitment to solving these things. If you haven't had the deep dish and/or the new york, its great. I'm from Chicago and I love New York style. There's a lot of great pizza, not a tremendous amount of great pizza in Seattle, and JM's is one of my go-to's. To have it be family/kid friendly, always able to snag a table or reservation and have amazing food/staff/service... rare thing. Great drinks, fantastic desserts. read more

I was into trying a new (to me) deep dish spot so we came here. The pizza tasted good. It wasn't bad at all. Let's say that upfront. I would give it 3.5 overall if I could. 1. Pizza was watery. Kind of a mess compared to other deep dish I've liked - West of Chicago, Windy City, Patxi (RIP), Lou Malnati (okay, not local), etc. Tasted fine but not amazing and we didn't want to take the more than 1/2 pie home. It's probably 3.5 for me. I wish I had done the non-deep dish, actually, because it looks better. 2. Garlic knots - these were a 2. Kind of oddly spicy and the seasoning I didn't love. I like them more basic. Not terrible but could have given them a pass. 3. Parking - there isn't any. It is kind of a cluster of a corner and no real street parking, so that's a negative We also had a house salad. It was fine. Craving Alfredo and the Caesar I enjoyed so much, I came back to avoid cooking and sit out the ridiculous traffic we've been dealing with due to the express lane BS. Sadly, they "don't have fettuccine or Alfredo" according to my server; but recommended their vodka pasta for you to consider. I went with the spinach pasta and changed the marinara to pesto. It was super good and a nice mix of garlic, greens, and penne pasta. Pleasantly oily, not overwhelming (so common to screw that up in my experience), and nicely custardy. Very satisfying. I totally had a carb binge, but balanced by that consistently good salad, it makes me feel better about it. A side note, the environment is very comfortable and I enjoy being there. Really tasty chicago style pizza! My husband and I came here on a Thursday night for dinner. We easily found free street parking and were able to get seated right away. Ambiance is pretty casual. They've got plenty of indoor and outdoor tables. Service was really friendly. The ratio was really good and the tomato sauce was so tasty! First time here. We opted to try the NY style pizza this time and will try the Chicago next I am a big fan of the mother of all pizzas, the Margherita. It is also the pizza that defines the skills of the pizzaiolo who is preparing pizzas. A ton of toppings like peppers, pineapple etc can turn a symphony into noise w hodge podge flavor mashup that hides the skills or lack of the pizzaiolo. There is no hiding of deficiencies when preparing a Margherita. That said, I found the pizza to be of good quality, about 7/10, compared to Ny/NJ pizzas that I grew up with. Not sure but it tasted and looked like the cheese used here was more a scamorza not classic fresh mozzarella. Pretty good mouth feel and melted stringiness, but a tad too salty for me. The fresh mozzarella is sweeter and does not fully melt into the sauce in a classic Margherita. The sauce was spot on mild and not herb forward like so many " Italian" sauces are. In Italy the sauce is used sparingly and seasoned only with salt garlic and basil. The crust was good, not great. Very nicely baked w even browning on bottom. It could have been better if the top was bubblier and crispier near perimeter. Service was prompt and courteous. Prices are in line with the area. It's not a huge place so reservations should be considered if your group is on a schedule. read more

It was by chance that we walked into this pizzeria after a walk around the arboretum. This is now the only pizza I want to eat (and we eat a LOT of pizza). We live 20 minutes north in Wedgewood, and we pay a crazy amount for a delivery fee just so we can get this one. Absolutely delicious... Garlic bread, salads, all of their pizzas. Because this was pretty close to exactly what we were looking for. --- --- --- Planning a trip into Seattle, I bookmarked a million highly rated restaurants, but ended up choosing Johnny Mo's because of its proximity to a nearby bike shop. My friend and I wanted to rent bikes and Johnny Mo's was about a 12 minute walk from said shop. And according to Street View, the walk was across a scenic bridge. Sold! While I probably would have preferred Chicago-style pizza, my friend made a good point: it's not the ideal pre-biking meal. Plus, we were starving and those tend to take a while to bake. So we ordered an 18" NY style, half and half with very different toppings. I just ordered Prosciutto on my side and enjoyed it. It actually WAS the ideal pre-biking meal. As a bridgetender at the University Bridge, I can often smell the delicious aroma coming from this restaurant like a siren song. I'd eat there every day if I could. That, and they are the only pizza place I've ever found that has the good sense to offer Kalamata olives instead of those nasty little black ones that look like dehydrated bicycle tires. Being a bridgetender, you'd think I'd be all about the pizza called the University Bridge, but no. If I could find a way to dive headfirst into their Stratton Spinach Pizza and never come up for air again, I would be a happy woman. And Johnny and his entire crew have always been wonderful to me, so it's a pleasure doing business with them. You have got to try this place. You won't regret it. My boyfriend and I came here because we were craving some deep dish pizza and were recommended this place from a coworker. We came around lunch time, and it was super empty in the place - no waiting needed! The server was really nice to us and gave us some recommendations, so we got one of the ones she recommended. Overall, the pizza was solid - would definitely recommend eating at the place when it is nice and hot. Otherwise, the pizza gets colder and the overall experience of the pizza isn't as great. We tried this place for the first time on a Friday night and getting reservations and being seated were a breeze. They have some nice cocktails on the menu and New York or Chicago style pizzas to choose. Previous reviews made us a bit wary of the deep dish but the Chicago style pizza with spinach (added chicken) came out superb! It was not soggy at all, the blend of spinach, cheese and chicken was a good choice. Between the 2 of us it was perfect and we had a piece left over. My friends and I wanted to try this place and given the Yelp ratings, I was kinda disappointed. The online ordering system is pretty easy and it was ready by the time we got there. The guy that was helping us was pretty nice and offered paper plates and utensils for our take out orders. Parking does suck though. We ordered the following: The Greek deep dish - the crust wasn't crisp enough so it was soft. I couldn't really tell it was a Greek pizza as the filling was not as strong. The cheese for me had some issues. My first bite I was able to do a cheese pull, but after, the cheese just stick together. At the end, the cheese just separate from the pizza all together. New york hint of discovery 14 in - I think this is more of a regular pizza for me, not new York style. It was decent, flavor was ok as well. Citrus salad - standard Overall it was ok, not the best. Got here on a Saturday night and was seated right away. A good amount of indoor and outdoor seating. Their pizzas are 10" - 18", and they do not sell by the slice either. We got both a NY style and a Chicago deep dish! The NY style was fantastic; the crust was perfectly crispy on the outside while chewy on the inside. I originally thought my pizza was under-seasoned, but as soon as I put a bit of parmesan cheese on top, it was perfect. I've never been the biggest fan of Chicago style, but this was probably the better ones that I've had. There was a good ratio of tomato to dough, and the crust was again, perfectly crispy. It was my brother's first time having deep dish, and he loved it. Be warned though, Chicago style will be a 40 min wait! I appreciated that in our to go boxes, they put a slip of tin foil on the bottom to prevent the box from getting greasy. No parking lot, so we had to do street parking a couple blocks down. This place is decent, and I will return, just not super excitedly. The apps are decent, and the pizza is good; the vegan cheese they use is the only one I've ever found that I actually like! But the pasta is the most generic/basic out there (not in a good way), and the service is the definition of subpar. They took forever to bring us our check, and they never refilled my soda. The biggest issue is that the kitchen can't manage its timing well to save its life. Multiple times, there has been an unacceptable amount of time between most of the table being served their food and the last person having to wait way too long for theirs. Combine that with an annoying, but allowable, credit card surcharge (trying to avoid taxes?), and I rather want to give my business to MOD than Johnnie Mo's. read more

Crust on this pizza is great! I've been here a couple of times a recommend the classic pep but I tried some special that was definitely different something with like shrimp and white sauce. I wish they served slices! Fast, great staff, solid little corner spot to tempt you while you're walking around the neighborhood! This is for the Chicago Style. I have friends that live in Snohomish they used to live in Fremont and went to Kylie's all the time ever since Kylie's closed they would try another Chicago Pizza place around the city but just never found one they liked. When I ran across Johnny Mo's I let them know about the place they ordered and drove all the way into town and have been hooked ever since. When my friend comes to visit me in Seattle he has to always picks up pizza to bring home to his brother and sister-in-law. I asked if he would mine if I went this time and placed an order since I live in Ballard he would have to back track a bit, he said by the time it got to Snohomish they'd have to heat it up anyway. Parking is not the easiest around that neighborhood, if you're picking up you may want to bring another person to run in. This was my friend's 4th time picking up and my first. They were just taking our pies out of the oven so we had a chance to visit with one of the owners who was sitting at a table ip front. I love getting to know the owners and talk to them it always give me a better connection to the business. It was fun to hear that he had tried a variety of pizza places around town before opening and creating a concept. I think it's awesome they offer Chicago and New York style. I ordered the veggie deep dish. I loved all the fresh ingredients, it had been awhile since I had a Chicago style. Crust and sauce were great. The last spot I had Chicago pizza from I wasn't a fan of their sauce. The sauce here doesn't take away from the fresh ingredients. Looking forward to trying the New York style next time. read more
