Messina was hands down one of the best pasta experiences I've ever had. After I posted photos and videos from our meal, so many friends asked where we went - and I completely understand all the influencers come here! If you're an Italian food lover, you have to try the pasta flights. They offer three-course and five-course options, and the three of us couldn't even finish the three-course flight. It was the perfect amount and an absolute dream to experience so many incredible pastas in one meal. As a fun surprise, our pasta flight even came out with a little sparkler, making it feel extra special and perfect for photos. We arrived just before the dinner rush and were seated quickly, but the restaurant filled up fast afterward. I'd recommend getting there when they open. We have been secret shoppers to help identify pain points for businesses and help them correct unknown problems so we want to share our anticipated trip to your restaurant. 7/11/2026 - 6:15p reservation. We made a reservation and drove over from the eastern side of Washington. The host was wonderful, very quick to greet and seat us. It took a few minutes for our server to greet us, by the time he came, we knew what we wanted to drink, have as an appetizer and for dinner. We offered to have him just grab drinks and apps or if he wanted we could order the flight at the same time. He ordered it all and walked away. 15 minutes goes by and no drinks. Appetizers come out and still no drinks. We turn around and he's watching tv. We reached out and asked if we could get our drinks, he apologized and grabbed them quickly. Beets and garlic bread were delicious our glasses were empty and server no where in sight to refill. Dinner comes out, pasta flight was delicious, meatballs needed more seasoning even if it was just salt - no one really wanted to reach for the last one. Drink cups were still empty and we couldn't grab anyone or our server to refill for a bit. Finally a gentleman from the bar walked by and we asked "are you able to refill or do we need to wait for Sam" he said "you're killing me" then sighed and grabbed the glasses. We all stared at him and apologized and said we could wait for our server and he tried to brush it off and say no no it's ok he can do it. We felt like we were a nuisance and put a sour taste in our mouth for the remainder of dinner. We finished with the lemon sorbet, it was ok but not our favorite dessert. Bill was just shy of $300 for 4 sodas, garlic bread, beets(unique flavor), flight of pasta with grilled chicken and meatballs, and 2 sorbets. Around $50 of that was the auto gratuity to the server. I have been a server, the service we received was not worth the $50 auto gratuity. We understand the desire to pay the server a higher wage but the reason we come out vs picking up is to be served & the experience. We unfortunately didn't feel great about the experience. Suggestions: Larger drink glasses, more servers, or a drink server who walks table to table helping refill drinks/push drink sales if your server isn't able to. Server was kind but not attentive, it could be because he was watching tv or because not enough servers, we couldn't tell which it was. Meatballs - additional seasoning! Would we come back? Maybe. Messina is one of those places where the experience really carries the night, in the best way. We ordered the pasta flight (which is such a fun concept) with cacio e pepe, pesto, and spicy vodka. Ranking them honestly: the cacio e pepe was the standout, simple, creamy, and actually flavorful. The pesto came in second, solid. The spicy vodka... kind of disappeared? It just didn't have much flavor at all, which was surprising. We also started with the Messina Caesar salads, which were really good, crisp, well-dressed, and a strong start to the meal. But what really made this place shine was the service. The bartenders were amazing--super attentive, friendly, and just brought such a great energy to the whole experience. I generally don't go for Italian food because of how heavy and dairy-heavy a lot of the foods can get, but it was a Saturday night and the bestie and I wanted to conclude a very busy night after doing a lot of cardio in Tukwila. We came here around 7pm and got seated immediately even though most if not all the tables and bar seating were full; it got even more full the longer we stayed. Inside is bustling even though the dim lighting makes this place feel like fine dining. Menu consists of pastas, pizzas, bread and some desserts, and there were a lot to choose from. We both settled on the petite Messina flight, which is a choice of three full portion sized pastas of our choosing, in which we chose pesto, carbonara and bolognese. It came with a sparkler just like their world famous Messina flight which lets you choose five instead of three, so I was still excited to get some literal sparks with my meal. Among the three pastas: - The pesto was oddly my most favorite; it was spicy which added a hot kick to it. - Bolognese was salty but the beef and pork mixture I was picking up from it was delicious. - Carbonara was relatively plain, using bucatini (think regular spaghetti noodles) with guanciale (cured pork). This whole flight was advertised as being perfect for a party of two, though we had to take portions of each home for ourselves. We also shared some garlic bread, which came in eight pieces and came with garlic sauce in the middle. It made our meal even more filling though their garlic profile is irresistible. I'll be frank here and say the food is overhyped, overpriced, and under seasoned. There was only ONE server for the entire restaurant which left the service to be lacking. The Caesar salad came without dressing..im not sure how a salad comes without dressing. The "spicy" meatballs were not spicy at all and grossly underseasoned. The wings were terrible! We had 4 people and it was the perfect amount with a little leftover but I love that they also offer a smaller flight if you're going with fewer! Chicken parmesan was a good size that came with some pretty good looking spaghetti. The pasta flights that I saw people get looked really unnecessarily over the top with it's presentation, but definitely looked good to try. We were kind of on a time crunch to make it to a concert, so we didn't have time for something like that. Still the food, took a while to come out, but didn't cause us to be late luckily. Visited Messina on Saturday night based on a random Tik Tok post. It was not busy at 7 PM but not complaining as I'm sure it would be loud if it were packed. The restaurant is located diagonally from the Met Market where the Racha used to be. No reserved parking, so that's a bummer. I would not want to come here if there was an event at Climate Pledge. We ordered the Petite Pasta Flight with Pesto, Carbonara, and Bolognese. The pasta was good and there definitely was meat in the bolognese and carbonara so not sure what the Yelper Reviewer was talking about. I liked the pesto as they had added broccolini and red pickled peppers which added a nice crunch. Bolognese was solid. We also ordered the crispy potatoes based on a Yelpers review. It was good but not life-changing as reported. The caesar salad had 2 anchovies on top and apparently had anchovies in the dressing. I couldn't taste it in the dressing but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I would pass on the Sicilian meatballs. They were dry and I did not like the cheese at all. They were spicy but not blow your head off spicy. They were my least favorite dish. We also ordered the mushroom pizza. We had the Messina Caesar, garlic bread, charred broccolini, and spicy vodka pasta. The Caesar was good, the dressing had a nice added anchovy flavor, it was a tiny bit more dressed than I'd usually prefer but not soggy. The garlic bread had great flavor but could've used a bit more crispiness. The spicy vodka pasta was good with the ricotta on top but could've gone with a tiny bit less of it. The bar had a significant selection of NA spirits which was great for our party member who likes mocktails. I'm sorry to say that I had a disappointing experience with this place when trying it for the first time. This was a take out order rather than dine-in so perhaps that was why my meal was different than many of the reviews I see here. -I ordered a wedge salad, and received what appears to be half the ingredients (and chopped up rather than a wedge) but zero cheese, a vinaigrette instead of blue cheese dressing, and no roasted peppers. I thought at first that maybe they accidentally gave me a different salad, but the ingredients don't match any of the menu items - it genuinely looks like someone only packed up half the salad and then threw in the wrong dressing before sending it out. -the crispy potatoes had a nice sauce and crunch to them but the inside of each potato bit was incredibly dry (like the order had been sitting for a long while before being reheated and sent out). I couldn't finish more than a couple of bites - which is saying a lot because I generally believe there is no such thing as a bad potato. -the charred broccolini was pretty tasty and had a nice balance between the heat of the peppers and the texture of the toasted quinoa. -the carbonara pasta has an underwhelming flavor, though the pasta itself was delicious. Maybe I'll have a better experience with a different sauce if I decide to try this place again some time. We haven't had Italian pasta in a very long time and it being Thursday, we were already up at the Queen Anne's Farmers Market. While I'm not a fan of their bland boring dining room, the food is always excellent and it's not our dime tonight! Four people from the Seattle squad met us here and started the stupidest debate ever. This is listed as Lower Queen Anne's neighborhood, but the guys are saying it's Uptown. We ended up involving half the staff and the table next us. Can I just get a menu? Once we all agreed to just call it Seattle, the drinks began flowing and other debates ensued. The first two appetizers were Sicilian Meatballs and Fried Brussels Sprouts in red wine vinaigrette with capers. Both fantastic. We split a beef and pork Ragu, Bolognese (we call it Pappardelle Bolognese) and a serious roasted beet salad that couldn't be beat (see what I did there?) In the past, my main course was this killer Short Rib Lasagna. I've never had anything like it. This time around it was the Sole Piccata which, great as it was, wasn't nearly as good. Know that you can request gluten-free casarecce pasta for an additional fee With no room for dessert, our host, Larry decided to order Tiramisu and Gelato for the table, anyway. With the Funghi pizza, salad, bread service and the drinks, it was a tough walk to the car. Most of these dinners are paid for by the corporation so we don't know the numbers. We had a reservation at 5pm on a Friday night was seated promptly when we arrived. The hostess knew we were celebrating my daughter's birthday from the day before and wished her a belated birthday. The servers were attentive walking around the rooms but we didn't get a refill on our water till the end of our meal, and we had been out for a while. Now the food... my daughter chose this place because of the famous pasta flight that she saw on social media, 5 different pastas on a board. Fancy for social media, sure... but have I had better tasting pasta elsewhere for less, you bet! When I pay a premium price for something as simple as pasta... I expect there to be premium ingredients in the dish (meats,seafood,etc) at a minimum. You can choose 5 pastas out of six options, but on this particular night, they were OUT of the bolognese, the one pasta I was actually excited to try since it typically contains meat. Essentially we had our five pastas chosen for us (Pomodoro, carbonara, pesto, spicy vodka and cacio e Pepe). My wife and I were disappointed in how all five pastas had no meat/seafood of any sort. Just pasta, sauce and cheese. My favorite Italian pasta is the carbonara, but how does this carbonara not have guanciale/pancetta at a minimum? I was searching and could not find any in the carbonara. In addition to the pasta flight, we got the garlic bread appetizer which I will say was pretty flavorful with the garlic aioli spread. Portion size, the pasta flight was more than enough food for a party of 4 and we ended up with leftovers. Typically of other "high end" restaurants, they will bring out a simple complimentary dessert for a special occasion like a birthday, not this place. All in all, we ended up paying $168 for just the pasta flight and garlic bread appetizer, NO DRINKS. Keep in mind this included the 22% mandatory service charge. Beware - they add a sneaky 22% service charge at the end - and if you ask your server they will say that they do not get any of it and aren't paid well. Don't expect any service at this place.. Just stay away. We had a reservation at this place. Walked in and nobody at the front. So we stood there and read all the signs about their automatic 22% service charge. It was a lovely and amazing way to get greeted. We (myself, my wife and our 4 years old son) finally sat at our table and the waiting game began. After about 20 min the hostess who I guess is now our server came and brought us water. While we had him there we also gave him our order. He left and after 5 minutes he came back and said they were out of one of the dishes we wanted. "I'll give you a minute to pick something else". That "minute" turned into 30. Yes, we just sat there waiting for him or any other staff to come back. We finally got ahold of the bus boy to see if he could find our server. He said he'll go and check. But again no sign of anyone. We saw another server but she wouldn't take our order; God forbid. We ended up leaving without any food or even an apology or explanation. I guess when there's an automatic 22% surcharge, accountability and service go out of the window. Save your time and money, go somewhere else. read more
